Best Time to Go
Though Costa Rica has a tropical climate, it has many microclimates too. The most suitable time to visit this country is the local summer season, which begins in December and lasts until April. This is also the time when the popular sites are crowded and more expensive. For the avid surfer, the rainy season from June to October on the Pacific side and November to May on the Caribbean coast are the ideal times to visit. The turtle season on the Caribbean side of the coast is from February to October.
Insider tips for Costa Rica travel
In mid-October, you can have a blast at the carnival by singing, dancing and drinking, at Isla Uvita.
Bring some drinks and friends and catch the rare opportunity of watching turtles hatch their eggs at Totuguera in July-August, though you will have to miss a night's sleep keeping watch at the beach.
For an authentic Costa Rican yet cheap dining experience try out Maravilla restaurant in Santa Elena.
It would be a good idea to carry back home a few bottles of Salsa Lizano, a distinctive condiment in Costa Rica.
Have the Casado, a traditional home-style meal at El Chicote.

Costa Rica history and culture
Costa Ricans are proud to have had more than a century of democratic tradition and more than 50 years without a military. This was abolished in 1948, and the money that the country saves from not having armed forces is invested in improving the quality of life of its citizens. This contributes to the social peace that makes Costa Rica a welcoming place to visit.
Costa Ricans, also known as "Ticos," are famous for being very hospitable people and they would like to keep this reputation. They are well-mannered and hard working, always willing to offer a smile and a handshake to people. They know that their country is unique, and they are generally willing to offer help to those visitors that are lost, at times even explaining cultural aspects that a foreigner might find strange, making their stay as pleasant as possible. It is said that "Ticos" are the best asset that the nation has, and once you have experienced their friendliness and spontaneity, you will be convinced.
