Luxurious Coconut Grove island retreat with Colonial flair

This luxury property sits on the edge of Biscayne Bay and could be mistaken for a posh Miami estate. The hotel is swaddled by palm trees and sits on 20 lush acres on its own island in Coconut Grove. The secluded 50-room haven treats guests to water views and a full-service spa. Rooms reflect a tropical Colonial style complete with gilded columns, wood shutters and ceiling fans. A picturesque waterside jogging path and tennis courts further the resort feel.

Highlights
  • 6,000-square-foot spa
  • 11 Har-Tru tennis courts, one U.S. Open hard tennis court
  • Scenic waterside jogging path
  • Outdoor pool with bay views
Rooms

Rooms decorated in greens and browns showcase their best asset: the sparkling Biscayne Bay. The natural light shines through large picture windows. Expect other tropical accents such as wicker furniture, plush beds swathed in gauze canopies and terracotta floors. Some rooms have dining and lounge areas. As the yachts sail by, guests can unwind on balconies or enjoy the bay breezes while catching a show on the plasma TV. In every room, Wi-Fi access, marble bathrooms and pillow top mattresses are standard.

Features

In a setting this serene, the hotel makes it a point to encourage guests to play outside. Guests can practice their serve on one of 12 tennis courts, go for a swim in the outdoor pool or take a yoga class on a waterside deck. For leisure options indoor, book a Balinese spa treatment or Thai body rituals at the intimate spa. Gibraltar, the on-site restaurant, sets the scene for special occasions with waterfront views and a seafood-driven menu.

Great stay beautiful view very romantic

Loved this hotel l choose this hotel for the fact that it was smaller than many of the other hotel in the area 50 room. The rooms where large, comfortable and clean. Staff was helpful it was nice to have the valet there 24/7. I loved the everything about this place. My only complaint was the air conditioning didn't work as well as I would have liked, sound like it was on the whole time but at time you couldn't feel it even with your hand right in front. The restaurant was my other big complaint, I don't mind paying a lot for a great meal but they charge you a extra 20% for what I don't knowthe food was very subpar but the view during your meal was amazing. I would Def stay here again.

Great location - Comfortable Hotel

Stayed for over a week. Not too busy, not dead slow either. Older hotel AC needs some upgrades but overall great room, great views and friendly enough staff especially given the market. Def recommend to others.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Take the 10 min drive into Brickell / downtown and have dinner at ZUMA in the EPIC hotel. You will not be disappointed. But bring your wallet! Well worth every penny.

Perfect Location

Great location and large rooms. However a little run down and slow service. At the end of the stay they hit you with a $25 car fee, a $25 resort fee, along with mega taxes so our 120 a night room came to 200 a night....Good news is if you like tennis they have a club attached and you can join in the the locals that live on the island for drills and match playing.

Great getaway from the northeast winter

Located on the water but no access to a beach. Lovely vistas, walking paths. Has Pool and jacuzzi, although jacuzzi not hot enough). Pelicans flying overhead. Taxi service impossible, sorry did not rent a car. The real drawback is that the hotel restaurant is extremely expensive with no cheaper option. Close enough to visit university of Miami. 15 minute ride

Nice, quiet but no bargain

The property is quite nice although very remote and quiet. Restaurant staff was not attentive. mandatory $24/day valet parking and $25/day resort fees need to be considered in determining relative value.

Let the buyer beware

I think there was poor disclosure of nickel-and-dime ancillary costs which dramatically added to the cost. There is no parking except by valet with an additional charge of 25 dollars per day. There is a "resort fee" of 25 dollars per day for resort amenities that are not clear. There isn't even any way to get ice without utilizing room service. Maybe some would say the beautiful location was worth it. I would not. Staff are very nice. I think orb should require something a little closer to truth in advertising. I am less likely to use orb in the future to book. I'm feeling burned with less than the whole truth and am thinking I should dig out the old AAA books again.
