Lovely weekend break

My wife & I stayed for a couple of nights in July as she hadn't been to Edinburgh before. Chose this hotel for location, club room and general impression from the web site and it ticked the boxes in all ways. A few minutes walk gets you to Princes Street and another 10-15 minutes to Waverley station, the Royal Mile etc. Club level gets you a full breakfast, all day tea and (real) coffee and early evening drinks & nibbles. The selection on offer wasn't the best we've had but very pleasant all the same. Our room was very spacious and even had a balcony overlooking the bustling Rose Street - could be a slight disadvantage when revellers are returning home in the early hours but this only happened for a couple of minutes on Saturday night. Wouldn't have been a problem at all if the balcony door had shut properly to keep the noise out. Special mention for concierge Jack (I think) who made our dinner reservations at a couple of local restaurants before we arrived and also advised us on various other aspects of our trip, he couldn't do enough for us. The under-hotel car park for guests is also very useful. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends.

Chaophraya (Thai) and Amarone (Italian) are both worth a visit and not far from the hotel. If booking at Chaophraya ask for a castle view table, limited numbers but worth it.

Not worth the money...

The only thing this hotel had going for it was it's location... which is a dime a dozen in the city center. This is a highly over priced hotel with lack luster amenities. The staff was not overly friendly or helpful. PARKING IS NOT FREE AS ADVERTISED. We paid close to $40 (USD) to park in public parking for the night. The room it self was very disappointing with a small, outdated and semi clean bathroom. The hotel room was not fully furnished... as half the room was left just empty. The pool is in small room in the basement with tile falling off the walls in and around it. Definitely not the same pool shown in the pictures advertising it. I am not a Debbie Downer in the least... I just want to make sure you know what your getting into. Hope it helps!

Terrible. Web pics/description very misleading...

Not impressed. Especially for the price. We were led to believe that breakfast and parking were included in our hefty bill...not the case. That tacked on another 50 pounds. The room was shabby. It clearly used to contain two beds. They had not even bothered to redistribute furniture as camouflage. The pool and spa were not at all what they looked like online. Very misleading and not worth the price.

Good hotel in new town area.

Very friendly and responsive staff. Clean and comfortable rooms and well appointed bathrooms. Good location adjacent to Rose Lane with many restaurants and shops although a bit of a long walk to the old town area and Waverley train station. Elevator to all floors was useful but a bit small and slow. Free wifi in lobby area nice but for the price would have expected to get free wifi and breakfast.

a little blow par

there was a mistake as we were put in a single room the first night, but changed easliy enough. However the cleanibg was a little superficial, dust behind the loo, and all over the window. Breakfast was not included and the voucher system was faulty, they tried to charge for meals we had not had. A better deal for breakfast is Filling station in rose street jus round the corner, half the price and better quality. otherwise , a little more care would give better value, but the location is easy for all parts of the city

The Roxburghe Hotel

Hotel itself was very nice, the room I stayed in however, was extremely small and hard to move around in. Practically had to climb over the bed to get from one side of the room to the other. For the money, I felt it was overpriced considering the uncomfortably small size of the single suite.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Catch the green Edinburgh tour bus across Charlotte Square in front of the Scotland Registry building rather than on Waverly Bridge. It's the third stop on the tour and a very short walk from a the hotel.

Fantastic location at this spa hotel

Warm welcome, excellent breakfast - wish we'd taken this every day. Really helpful concierge. Loved the recently refurbished decor in communal areas. Great outside seating area if weather had permitted use. Good spa facilities. We enjoyed massages whilst on this mother/daugher city break made even more exciting by supply of scottish shortbread to room every day. Twin room was a bit tight with drawer space/desk chair in way. Tip to request room that isn't situated above wedding reception. Great central location.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Do go to see the Royal Yacht Britannia. Such an interesting attraction, made even more special as we enjoyed afternoon tea in the Royal deck tea room. They even have their own fudge shop on board.
