The El Cid doesn't disappoint

This was our second visit to the El Cid. We have been going to Mexico annually for the last 20 years. We have done all the hotels - the super huge to the more boutique. If you are looking for a small resort where it only takes you 5 minutes to get from one end to the other, where the staff is excellent, where the food is great, where the grounds are always clean, where the drinks are generous and served by friendly bartender - this place is for you. It isn't the super big ultra delux where you need to take shuttles and where the shows are excellent. Unless you have small kids, don't waste your time on the evening shows. Also, if you like to go for long walks along the beach, the El Cid has a marina on one end of the beach and the other end is more remote - which isn't conducive to a walk with rocks and plenty of seaweed. However, the beach by the Cid was always clean and well groomed.

Great choice,

Upgrading to an oceanfront room for $250 (would have been $350 before using a discount coupon) was definitely worth it. even though your package may state that you get the type of room available you will get the least desirable room if you don't pay more. The hotel was vey well maintained and the room was new. Unfortunately walls are thin so you can easily hear your neighbor but the place was so beautiful I'd go back without hesitation. The dining options were of surprisingly high quality and the staff was consistently prompt and courteous. The beach was great but be sure to bring mosquito repellent. We splurged on one of the private romantic dinners and it was the most amazing experience ever. IF you have a special event to celebrate I whole heartedly recommend it. I was surprised and disappointed to learn there is no food served poolside but it probably is best for the environment and not a big deal. Also it was not your typical all inclusive bar/drink options. Brands were all mid to top shelf and the pours were always generous. Corona was on tap! We bought snorkel gear at the gift shop and enjoyed using it right there just off the beach.

Family Trip 10.2014

Had to reschedule a my trip to Cabo due to the hurricane there. Picked the El Cid from reviews and price. Good value for the price. Beach is ok, no long walks due to the Marina on the right side of hotel, other direction not picture perfect. Food is pretty good. Nice that you can always get something through out the day, only about an hour before dinner is there nothing open. Staff is friendly and helpful. Pool is nice, cliff diving area was fun kids liked that a lot. Could use some night activities like game room, Sados Eco had a nice family friendly bar area with ping pong and pool ables as well as a movie room. We stayed there the year before, may be better all around compared to El Cid but El Cid had better food and doesn't limit you on which place you can dine at.

Birthday Getaway

This was my first trip to Mexico and my birthday getaway so my girlfriend wanted to make it special. She suggested that we stay at the Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort as she has been there twice (2x) before. We stayed from the 3rd to the 7th of October and our requested room was given to us. The staff was pleasant, helpful and hospitable. Even though the gratuities are included, we still tipped the staff (bell boys, housekeepers, wait staff etc.). We made sure to keep our valuables in the safe but I forgot my small wallet inside the zippered pocket of my bag which I know contained $50.00 and two (2) $5.00 bills. I realized this the evening of October 5. To our dismay, the $ 50.00 WAS GONE. To our knowledge, it was housekeeping and the staff who replenished our refrigerator entered our room. We personally informed the front desk staff and expressed OUR DISAPPOINTMENT - not the amount missing but the DISRESPECT, INTRUSION and VIOLATION OF OUR PRIVACY.

Disapointing Vacation!

We went to the hotel for nine days and we were disappointed. We had thought since we had booked it through this site that it would be a safe and a reliable place and hotel. It was neither. On the third day we had our device stolen. We even knew who had stolen it as they were very conspicuous and constantly "disappearing" whenever we had been near them. What did the hotel do? Absolutely nothing. The entire time the hotel security just walked around, as if expecting to find it laying around. Also, the beach at the hotel online looks as if its amazing. When we arrived the beach was entirely filled seaweed and the beach was and still is filled with rocks and seaweed and grass. The place would have men in tractors trying to pick it all up and they would get done with it around 3 p.m. yet there would still be huge piles left. The water was as green and as brown as sewer water. Whenever you tried to swim in the ocean you would get swim clothing filled with sand. When you would touch the bottom you would get poked by a rock or something else. The seaweed floats in gigantic clumps and constantly gets in your face and is dead brown. You cant get away from it. As I said about security anyone can just stroll onto the beach steal someones boat or even worse. The food is terrible and the cliff jump and slide are horrible stepping up there you would see band-aids and bloody tissues and the "lifeguards" never paid any attention to anyone or anything except their conversation with other "lifeguards" about something in Spanish. When going down the slide it is known for people getting blisters and scraped skin and sometimes even going straight off the slide. The transportation with was fine but the "hotel" was not. The device was stolen on the hotel property and the cameras could've seen it but the hotel was too lazy to check the camera and provide and way of searching for the device besides just walking around. Don't waste money on this hotel!!!

Very nice place

The grounds a very well maintained, staff was friendly and the food was excellent. If you are traveling with your family this a place to consider. Not even one timeshare person talked to us! (Felt like vacation not a sale pitch). Also great value for all inclusive, and you don't have to wait and sign any receipts for drinks ect. Just wear a wrist band. Hope this helps.

Take extreme tour by edventuretours.com. Way better than the commercial Tours. They take small groups and tour guides are locals. Much better than waiting for the other 30-50 people in your tours. Have a great time!!!
