Hotel is in a perfect location, despite being old hotel with imperfections it's a good location if you don't want to get a cab to be near several restaurants or the tours for BUCK ISLAND....you wake up and you're in the boardwalk and can have your breakfast in front of the water....can't get any better than that.

Great place to stay. Absolutely beautiful!

Everything was great! This was my second time staying at the Carambola Resort. Beautiful and comfortable rooms. Staff was friendly, accomodating and helpful. Food is great and the Friday night Pirates Buffet is terrific. The beach and pool is well maintained - hardly ever enough towels available poolside though. Traveled with my twin 6 month-old girls, husband and (adult) niece. We all fit comfortably in one room. They even provided two cribs in our room for free. The "ants" were the only nuisance that bothered me. There was even a washer/dryer available that made our lives so much easier when we ran short of clean bibs and clothes. Thanks! I hope to be back again soon :-)

Lovely Tropical Paradise!

This is a great tropical paradise! Lots of tropical wildlife to see, private & romantic! We loved the sounds of the rainforest at night. The room was beautiful, beds were extremely comfy. Resort staff were friendly and resort restaurants were great! The price was very reasonable - we both recommend the daquiris!
Plan to be somewhat patient, this is "island time" and they are laid back. The beach, the water, the tropical flowers, the mongoose, the geckos, sand crabs (soldier/hermit crabs), the sea-birds - very cool to see! We played Golf at the resort - which is absolutely gorgeous! They didn't warn us about fire ants, but other than the bites, not painful, not itchy. That would be my only warning. Bring bug spray for nighttime mosquitos. We didn't snorkel or scuba, but those are both available and the people we know that did, really enjoyed it! We will treasure this trip!

The staff was attentive and more than helpful. They drew hand drawn maps when asked directions and advised us on where to go and what's going on in the area and on the island. We had a small issue with places closing kind of early and finding places to eat after 8pm, but all in all the hotel was definitely a fantastic value. I won't visit the island again, but not because of the hotel. If your considering a trip here I would lean toward Christiansted, but if your heart lies here in Fredricksted than this is your place!

Fresh out the 'bird's nest'
- Jul 25, 2010
Arriving at the Palms was not how we had expected, with delays in our flight, pouring rain and expensive cab ride, all we wanted to do was sit on the beach but that couldn't happen. Instead we tried out their perfect, covered, outside bar with the best drinks; which we would find ourselves at ALOT throughout our vacation.
The room was bigger than expected and although specified as 'Garden View', we had perfect views of the Ocean. Rooms have very nice baths, and mini-decks with seating for 2. Food was better than average but again, drinks (made by Tommy) were the best around.
Beach -- perfect!!; Private with both snorkeling and swimming areas
MUST RENT A CAR -- we rented a car the 3rd of 5 days on the island and wish we had it the entire time. Considering its close proximity to downtown Christiansted it is worth every dollar. Cabs stop at 6 so any form of activity is needed with a car.
Summary: Great Location; Top-notch staff; Perfect Beach BUT avoid this entire area in the middle/late summer months (weather is unpredictable.)

Romantic beach getaway

pineapple princess
- May 11, 2012
My boyfriend and I stayed for 9 nights and would go back. The Buccaneer is about a 7 minute drive to Christiansted and about a 7 - 12 minute drive to the east end where there are more restaurants. If you want to spend your days on the beach there are 3 to choose from. They provide free use of kayaks, floaties, and snorkel gear. The staff is warm, helpful, and friendly. Our biggest complaint was the food. Lunch selections at The Mermaid were ok enough but dinner at the Terrace was always disappointing. Everything sounded really good but the execution was lacking. The full breakfast buffet that is included was definitely good enough - decent variety. The spa is small but provided good services. The golf course is beautiful. If you're looking for a very mellow, quiet, romantic vacation, this is the place. If you're looking for more action and nightlife, St. Thomas would be more suitable.

Had a great time, enjoyed the facility, people and room. Had an issue with the a/c part way through my stay - the maintance folks had it corrected within 30 mins.
My only complaint, the rules for the pools should be enforced. Children were running, jumping and diving into the pool while adults were trying to swim. When brought to the parents attention, who by the way were not watching their children, they just ignored us who made mention.

Family Funeral

My stay at the fredriksted hotel was ok at best. I grew up in St.Croix but have lived off island for the last 23 years. I have visited four times during that time and usually reside with my family but elected for some privacy of a hotel since I was attending my Aunts funeral. It was my first time actually staying at a hotel on the island. I was very disappointed with the room my bed was extremely uncomfortable and seemed to be a mattress from the 1980's. The hotel says it has cable TV however their is only 8 channels to watch which is the extreme basic channels and all other relevant channels CNN,FOX,ESPN are channels that say you must subscribe to watch. There is no Wi-Fi or business center with internet connectivity for guests. The location is amazing due to it being right in the heart of Fredricksted and all the beautiful beaches local restaurants and shopping district. The breakfast prepared at the hotel was amazing! The staff was extremely friendly and did everything to accomodate my stay. However the price for the hotel is not worth it. As a person from the island I am ashamed to say that the hotel is beneth the standards of a Super 8 hotel with Marriot or Hilton prices.

This was such a perfect vacation spot for my husband and myself we bought a condo unit there! So obviously we will return.
We loved being able to get up in the am, and eat a liesurly breakfast on the balcony overlooking the beach and ocean. Very laid back and quiet environment. Beach is very private, but you still get the activity of watching the sailboats, seaplanes, and people riding horses in the water.
The staff was very friendly and willing to answer questions about life on St. Croix.

For the price, this was a good value. The room was dated but clean. The staff were great! They were friendly and helpful. Cheney is right on the beach and also had a beautiful pool. Good restaurant and bar also made the stay easy. Wireless Internet access in the room was sporadic and most of the time I had to go to the lobby to get the internet. Mosquitos and other biting bugs were a problem but the restaurant had plenty of bug repellent.

Remote without a rental car. Taxis expensive. Poor property maintenance & room cleaning. Garbage under sink was full when we checked in. Television erratic. Poor cell and internet reception. No checkout staff before 8am.
That apart everyone very friendly. Restaurant Bar good value for money.
Local rumor is that owners have serious financial problems.

In spite of every efforts made to renovate the rooms, this hotel remains an rickety colonial building in the heart of the boardwalk area peppered with bars. Great if you're in a party mood, but not if you need to sleep. Not to mention the roosters outside your window who will make sure you wake up at 5AM.

We were a little disappointed that we did not have a view, but we had a nice private patio area. We were on the first floor and were afraid it would be noisy, but it was not. The room was clean and we had plenty of hot water and no bugs...unlike the hotel next door according to some friends.

Way overdue relaxing vacation

The staff was fantastic, super friendly, and we made plenty of friends. The food was delicious, especially the lobster. It probably could have had a little more variety of food choices. There are only 2 places to eat, despite the website saying 4 restaurants. The pizza shack and the casino are more like snack places. The location of the resort was perfect: right on the beach, reef right off the beach to snorkel, and on the quit side of the island. The room was another story. Although the room view was perfect, the decor needs to be updated and they deserately need new matresses (much more firm). I have pinch nerve problems, but was fine before I got there. I had to sleep on the floor my entire vacation because the matress left me locked up in my neck and back. I have needed several chiropractic adjustments since I've been home because of it. Until they get better matresses, unfortanately we will not come back to this resort. We did inform management several times and of this and upon checkout.

This hotel is actually quite nice! There is only one restaurant and one bar, so definitely rent a car, and venture out! All the bartenders in the resort are super friendly. Restaurant staff, not so much. Be sure to stop by the little beach shop they open during day to give some love to hugo the resort kitty. BRING BUG SPRAY! They have crazy mosquitos all over the island. the bartenders well also give you some gin on a paper towel to rib on yourself, works like a charm. The pueblo market is just down the road, I recommend you but some small refrigerated items and beer or booze.its way cheaper to buy atthe kmart though. Take the car ferry to st john and snorkel with turtles! there is an awesome little bar called club capri right in charlotte amalie buy the scotiobank, the owner andrew is super nice! Keep in mind, one street behind the shops in charlotte amalie, you will run into the poverty part of the island. Don't go there! renting a car was the best thing we did! You can buy a cooler at the market and leave it in the trunk with your drinks, and ice from the resort. Plus you can travel to all the beaches at your leisure.taxis are super expensive! This resort is a 5 minute walk from the airport, don't hail a cab, you will feel foolish. When you get to the front of the airport, walk left and follow the road with the airport runway on your left. Oh and they drive on the left side of the road. And everyone will look scary and unfriendly, just say ” good morning, afternoon, evening” you will be amazing how friendly the people are after. Bring your own snorkel gear!!! hopes this helps!

Beautiful Resort

Travel Bug 2012
- May 15, 2012
The Marriott is a beautiful resort we great ammendities and beautiful views. I was however greatly disappointed in the level of customer service, i found most of the hotel staff (predominently the servers, front desk, and adventure staff) rude and unhelpful. The service at ALL restaurant establishments was unreasonably slow, while I know people are not in a rush on vacation 2 appetizers taking 40 minutes to arrive seems excessive. I found it odd they offered activities like yoga on the sundeck, but upon arriving I was told they dont actually have anyone to instruct. Overall the hotel was great but the staff could use a lesson in customer care.

This was my second time at the Marriott in St. Thomas. They have done some nice upgrades since the last time I was there. overall, it was a really nice place to stay with great amenities. Room we were given was a little bit of a disappointment, but we got over it quickly with all of the other things to do on the resort. All in al, I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for an upscale resort in St. Thomas.

If you want an out of the way absolutely beautiful place to relax, this is the place for you! The grounds were absolutely beautiful- beach, pool, palm trees... We were amazed by how calm and quiet this place was. The room was great and the staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed snorkeling and kayaking on the bay for a reasonable price. $10 to snorkel for a whole day. There was always staff members at the rental place and they were all very helpful. The restaurant was good but not great food-wise, but the wait staff was very nice. We walked a couple times to the town of Red Hook. It took about 20 minutes but the walk was a little dangerous. There was a grocery store there that had a good selection, but more expensive than what we were used to. We were able to get things for the fridge to do a couple breakfasts and lunches in our room. In Red Hook there is a $2 taxi that will take you all the way to Charlotte Amalie. We did that and ate at a great place there called Cuzzins. There were some restaurants and coffee shops in Red Hook that we ate at too. The taxi ride from Red Hook was $5/person. We had our kids with us and this was a great location to bring them with the snorkeling and kayaking, beach, hot tub, and pool. It would have been better if the walk to Red Hook was better for walking, but if you had a car, you would have it easier. There were lots of tours available in the city and a Ferry to St. John in Red Hook. Boat trips to the other islands were avaiIable too. I would recommend this to people who want a quiet, beautiful place to relax.

The hotel is past it's prime, but was clean and meet our needs. The beach and snorkeling are great, but the reception could be a little more friendly and helpful. If you are looking for amenities, you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for a clean room, a great beach and a kitchen then you will be happy. The bar up the hill is very friendly, and happily shares information about the island.

The overall experience was good. Some of the rooms were more updated than others, but all were tolerable. We did not have any pests, torn screens, etc. Our room had nice stainless steel appliances and it appeared the bathroom was in the midst of being updated because some of the materials were in the closet. The staff was nice with the exception of one person.
They have a grill near the beach that prepared hot dogs, hamburgers, etc.

The view is wonderful. The staff very friendly and helpful. This is not a glamour hotel, but extremely comfortable and laid back. It's how we start our annual ten day visit to St. Thomas and St. John. Food is ok at the restaurant, not great, but the view is worth it. Plan to stay for a few days again next year.

If looking for that little getaway, romantic view, and nice little beach, then this place is perfect. These are basically individually owned 1 and 2 bedroom condos, with kitchen, dining and living rooms and very nice bedrooms and baths. Bed was a king, too hard for my taste but acceptable. Remember this is the tropics, expect some bugs. Beach is great, the dive shop was fantastic. Restaurant was very good but a little pricey, but then everywhere we went food was expensive. Definitely going back.

Fantastic location, great resort. We were in suite 736 that has a wonderful view of the bay and is a very nicely refurbished flat with great bathroom and living room and angle terrace. The downsides were the lack of wireless signal and the steps to reach the room from the beach but overall a great vacation. The resort has very convenient restaurant and cafe on the beach front even if on the pricey side.
They also had a gated parking in case you rent a car.

Everyone is super friendly including owner and staff. You feel safe since they lock their gates after hours. Breakfast is nice. Rooms are simple, but feels clean. Beds are fine, air condintioning a little loud, but I'm not use to wall built-ins. Lots of steps to get to room, so be aware. American transplants to the island give great information, staff gave great ideas for food/beaches. "Safari" the locals bus are cheep to get you around, just have to ask so you know how it runs and payment. This part of downtown seems to be closed after 6pm-

Great location, so-so hotel

Like everything else on St Thomas this hotel is quite expensive for what you get. But you are paying for a view, the view of the bay and the other islands was fantastic. The room was just ok. We had a full kitchen which we used often, but everything in it was pretty old. The bathroom was recently remodeled and was quite nice. The bed was old and uncomfortable. The best was the huge wrap-around balcony with a table and chairs overlooking the bay.
You can also walk to Coci beach and Coral World, which are definitely worth staying at this hotel. The staff was like most of the people we met on the island, not very friendly, but they helped when asked.
There are 3 pools and a couple of restaurants; we only ate at Jack's Bight which was pretty good, but so busy it took over an hour to get our food.
Compared to other resorts on the island this one is a bargain, but it is still pricey for what one comes to expect from a $200+/night hotel.
