Milwaukee is the largest city in the state of Wisconsin, and
is in the southeastern portion of the state on the western shore of Lake
Michigan.Milwaukee is home to some of America's most instantly recognized
corporations such as Miller Brewing and Harley Davidson. Harley holds an
enormous celebration on every fifth anniversary attracting riders (and
celebrity riders such as Jay Leno) by the millions to Milwaukee each time. The
110th anniversary will be held in 2013.
Milwaukee was once the home to four of the world's largest
breweries (Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, and Miller), making it the number one beer
producing city in the world for many years and earning it the nickname
"Brew City." Milwaukee has advertised itself as the "City of
Festivals," especially emphasizing an annual summer party along the
lakefront called Summerfest. Listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as
"the largest music festival in the world", Summerfest attracts about
a million visitors a year to its twelve stages. Smaller ethnic festivals
throughout the summer celebrate many of Milwaukee's ethnic groups.

Stayed one night at this hotel with friends. The room was a little musty, but large and had good views. The location was excellent and dinner in the Envoy was top notch. Would stay here again and/or recommend to a friend. Lobby had a nice historic charm. All staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

This hotel was perfect for our trip. We had a quiet nights stay. The room was nice looking & clean. Our children loved the pool. The free breakfast had plenty of fresh fruit & yogurt. They had a nice selection of other breakfast foods as well. Free parking & parking lot was safe. We would definitely stay here again. We were about 20 minutes from the Brewer Stadium.

This is the second time I've stayed here and the staff have been wonderful. I had an issue with the DSL in the first room that I was in and the staff quickly found another room, that was near the first room I was in and they switched my room without any hassle. I was always greeted with a smile.

I decided to stay here to avoid driving home to Chicago in the middle of a snow storm. I wanted a place where I would feel safe and be close to work in the morning. It was perfect for the value. I had everything I needed for one night, and it was quiet. The staff was very nice and friendly. I attempted to eat the free continental breakfast, but sadly that was the one flaw. Other than that the room was clean, and I appreciated the free phone calls since I had forgotten my cell phone at home. Also, the art decor was very modern and stylish.

Was in Milwaukee for training. The hotel is close to the airport, restaurants, shopping.
Rooms are spacious and clean.
As with most hotels wifi stinks, but after alerting the management they were able to get that working better.
Good stay.

We have stayed at the Milwaukee Athletic Club because of its location to our daughter's apt in Milwaukee and its value. These are huge rooms with several chairs, desks along with an updated very comfortable king bed. Huge windows that can open for fresh air. Along with the room comes full access to the workout, fitness facilities including a lap pool, huge sauna and steam room. Very impressive fitness facility.

This hotel is on the registry of historic buildings and in many ways that is fascinating and great, and in some it could use a little refurbishing. But overall, the hotel was a great value with convenient on-site parking for only $7 a day. It is also conveniently located for just about anything you could really want to do on a weekend away (close to the museum, breweries, 3rd ward, etc).

Had a pleasant one night stay Presidents Day weekend. Had not been to the Astor since my Marquette U days for a dance. Doesn't appear to have changed much, but was well kept and clean in all public areas as well as in the room. Do question safety and security with the original doors with the inside/outside open for laundry, shoe shine. Also was very noisy, but could of course just be specific to the other guests on my floor.

The hotel was a reasonable value, but, having just stayed at a Marriott Courtyard in Brookfield for several nights before for the same price, it was rather a let down. The room was old and worn, as was the furniture, and the heater took a couple of hours to warm it up. The bathroom was clean, but quite small. The restaurant, interestingly, was very good, both for dinner (steak) and for breakfast (ham and eggs with English muffin and coffee). And the free shuttle to the airport was a pleasant surprise. I would stay again, but only if I needed to be near the airport.

I would suggest this hotel to anyone staying in the area. You will love it if you like a firm mattress. The front desk was friendly and helpful. The restaurant Altitude was a main reason that I will be back to this hotel as much as the hotel itself. Clean rooms, everything is new and in great condition. Room was also very quiet, a big plus over similar hotels. If you stay here, you have to try the restaurant!

Riverwalk location

frequent visitor to Milw.
- Dec 22, 2009
I ended up liking the hotel more than I thought. I loved the history of it being in the Gimbel's store & the old photos were wonderful. I liked the decor with some fresh lively colors. The Riverwalk is right out the door and i walked to many places including the Public Market, Third Ward, Mo's, and Borders is right inside the building. While I could not see the river out my window (8th floor) due to an architectural railing - i could look directly down Wisconsin Ave and see the Milwaukee Art Museum and the wings were open - took my breath away! Breakfast is spectacular, staff is lovely, will definitely go there again.

Great location right on the Riverwalk. You can walk to all the downtown tourist locations or hop on the free trolley right at the corner. Staff was so friendly. Rooms were very large and comfortable with a full kitchen. Note that you will hear noise at night from bands playing at nearby restaurants (summer only). Fun historic building. Note though that the top floor (8th floor) does NOT have the floor to ceiling windows that the other floors do.

Description
The decor of the hotel, a blend of Art Deco and the 1930s European Art Moderne, flows with the streamlined design of the Art Deco building. The tranquil ambiance created in the hotel was achieved through the use of smooth curves and ovals, natural fibers, warm colors and soft, recessed lighting. Author Ray Bradbury claims, "The Hotel Metro is superb. If I didn't look out the window, I'd think I was in Paris."

The art deco was beautiful throughout the hotel- mixture of the ages. We enjoyed the Metro dining most of all - outstanding service. The Metro is flanked by building, therefore, close the drapes then enjoy the room. Try soaking in the oversized tub with soft music playing from the CD - bath salts provided by the hotel. Or merely sink into the coach for a swirl around one of the two flat panel screens. It was a blast even during the winter.

The room was much bigger than I'd expected. It had a gas fireplace and a jacuzzi tub, all IN the room. The in-room tub was a little odd and it was kind of dated looking. I didn't use it. The bathroom was clean and had great water pressure. Service was very prompt and friendly. Valet service was good too.
