Milwaukee is the largest city in the state of Wisconsin, and
is in the southeastern portion of the state on the western shore of Lake
Michigan.Milwaukee is home to some of America's most instantly recognized
corporations such as Miller Brewing and Harley Davidson. Harley holds an
enormous celebration on every fifth anniversary attracting riders (and
celebrity riders such as Jay Leno) by the millions to Milwaukee each time. The
110th anniversary will be held in 2013.
Milwaukee was once the home to four of the world's largest
breweries (Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, and Miller), making it the number one beer
producing city in the world for many years and earning it the nickname
"Brew City." Milwaukee has advertised itself as the "City of
Festivals," especially emphasizing an annual summer party along the
lakefront called Summerfest. Listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as
"the largest music festival in the world", Summerfest attracts about
a million visitors a year to its twelve stages. Smaller ethnic festivals
throughout the summer celebrate many of Milwaukee's ethnic groups.

Even though they had a water pipe disaster, we loved the place. Didn't get to see the fitness room or spa, but enjoyed the pool on the 23rd floor. Beautiful hotel with very friendly staff. Had breakfast at the Cafe and it was great. Would stay there again.

The hotel was not anything extraordinary, but the staff was very nice and my room was clean and comfortable. It was near the airport and with a free airport shuttle, only I wasn't aware I had to call the hotel to have the shuttle come pick me up at the airport so I had to wait over an hour at the airport. But other than that, I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would stay here again if the price was still good.

Other people have complained about the street noise, but I really didn't hear it. Room was big enough, had a frig and microwave. Hotel was easy enough to find. I'm not a fan of valet parking, but we got in late and ended up parking ourselves anyway and no one seemed to mind.
I wanted to take a bath, but the tub had some anti-slip stuff on it that was peeling and sticky, so I stuck with just a shower.

No more - no less.
I'd call the Aloft an adequate value at best. In Milwaukee, the valet parking is $23.00 per night. If you weren't raised there, (like me) you may not be aware of how assertive the parking checkers can be. In that case, it's a good value. Those of us who were raised there, know how and when to acquire parking permission.
At any rate, $23/ per night is a little steep but it's one of those hidden costs of a value priced downtown hotel. If the weather is good, everything you'll need will be within walking distance anyway. I love my hometown but there's only a three-month window for that "good weather" upgrade.
BTW y'all, on checkout day, unless I call for a 0700 wake-up, please keep your knuckles off my door.

The hotel is an old "Grand Hotel." The interior is very classic and The Milwaukee ChopHouse is an excellent restaurant located within the hotel. The filet mignon I had was perfect! It is a thirty minute walk to the harbor and many of the downtown attractions are within a twenty minute walk. The staff is friendly and helpful. Milwaukee is a beautiful and wonderful place and so is this hotel! I stayed here six years ago and I will return here next time.

Easy check in and out. Close to almost everthing. Had to park in open lot or garage across the street. Parking fees a little pricey, but our car was safe in the parking garage over night. They had motorcycle parking area very close to the door (and covered from the elements) which was a big plus.
They provided a free shuttle to anywhere in downtown. I used it to go to the Harley Museum.
I always love it when hotels' continental breakfast includes the "make your own" waffles. :)

Comfortable, clean, had an issue checking in as it was late at night (although we called ahead and made them aware 2 days earlier) so we were marked as a no show. Staff was friendly in all interactions, but we had no problems that needed to be resolved. Very quiet and comfortable. Are in the process of updating/upgrading so old televisions will be gone soon. Great location, clean hotel
-
Bignumber
- Sep 26, 2011
Excellent location in downtown Milwaukee, you can pay $13.50/day for unlimited in/out from their parking garage which connects to the hotel - used this and was very nice. Lobby area was clean/modern, didn't use the continental breakfast, but it was offered and looked decent enough.
Stayed for a weekend getaway, did not spend a lot of time in the room, but it was clean and in good working order except a couple things - drain in one sink didn't work & drain in tub was sloooooow. We had a handicapped room so we had 2 sinks so the one clog wasn't a huge deal, but annoying nonetheless. We didn't call the front desk to have them fix, wasn't worth the time since we had 2 sinks. Tub was pretty bad, but didn't call about this either, would drain in about 5 mins after shower was over.
Handicapped room had sitting area with couch/chairs/TV, but we never used this. King sized bed was nice, one of the better mattresses I've had in a hotel, also had a desk, lamp, chair, good sized flat panel TV, room kept cool/warm depending on need. Elevators worked well and was a quiet stay.
It's a very good basic room with all the common amenities and a fairly modern appeal; doesn't look brand new, older stuff that has been renovated. Nothing much negative to say, it's not the Ritz, but more than adequate in every area (just get the drains working better), would stay here again.

I thought the hotel was clean and everything you expect from Hampton Inns. Upon arrival, the staff was friendly and helpful. I was meeting a lady friend there. Asked for places to see and good area restuarants. I received great recommendations.
One of the things that makes that place nice is it's proximity to a lot of opportunities. Such as, walking distance to Lake Michigan, River Walk, Harley Museum, Bradley Center and restaurants of all types.

Free parking and free WiFi internet worked well and the room was quite.
The iron was missing fom the room. After calling the front desk, the one house keeping brought up leaked water all over. There was also no waste basket in the bathroom.
The breakfast room has really limited selections - instant coffee machine was particularly disappointing.

Three Great Days in Milwaukee
-
Old Friends
- Oct 23, 2011
We visited Milwaukee with friends and we all agree that the hotel was wonderful. We appreciated the chance to park our car without extra fees and the opportunity to use the hotel shuttle made our stay perfect. When we return to Milwaukee for another visit we will not even consider staying at any other hotel. The restoration of the art deco lobby makes it a unique place. Our rooms were spotless. While in Milwaukee we visited the art museum, the Pabst mansion, the Domes, the public library, the Bronze Fonz, the Lakefront Brewery, the public market, the Third Ward and a number of good places to eat.

I like hotels with character. Though this place definitely has character, it also has leaky broken windows, slow shower drains, awkward tiny sinks, and lots of noise. We stayed in one of the rooms that had not been updated, so I can't speak for the renovated rooms.

Older room, no warning about mess in bathroom
-
annlee
- Nov 23, 2011
Admittedly I snagged this hotel room, 352, for a steal under $32. I needed a cheap place to stay with wifi and it had that. The bed was comfortable and looked nice. There was a stain on the floor. The bathroom had buzzing lights. When I flushed the toilet it splashed directly upward messing up the floor, seat, the towels hanging above it, and unfortunately me too. I had no intention on showering there anyway, since the water was rusty, but I didn't think I would actually have to use the towels I brought along. Luckily I had friends in the city who let me use their shower. There was a dripping noise heard all night long and everything echoed.
I know I got a cheap room but I didn't expect to get splashed by the toilet. If the staff would have warned me I could have avoided it. Even a warning sign would have been nice. The lady at the counter didn't even wish me a nice day or asked how my stay was. NEVER staying here again!!!

I ended up liking the hotel more than I thought. I loved the history of it being in the Gimbel's store & the old photos were wonderful. I liked the decor with some fresh lively colors. The Riverwalk is right out the door and i walked to many places including the Public Market, Third Ward, Mo's, and Borders is right inside the building. While I could not see the river out my window (8th floor) due to an architectural railing - i could look directly down Wisconsin Ave and see the Milwaukee Art Museum and the wings were open - took my breath away! Breakfast is spectacular, staff is lovely, will definitely go there again.

Rooms were very large and comfortable with a full kitchen. Note that you will hear noise at night from bands playing at nearby restaurants (summer only). Fun historic building. Note though that the top floor (8th floor) does NOT have the floor to ceiling windows that the other floors do.

Very comfortable bed and bedding. Bathroom seemed less upscale than the rest of the facility. Staff was helpful in suggesting a restaurant and calling ahead for a table.
