This is a charming old inn that is very well maintained and ideally located. It is much nicer (i.e., better organized and cleaner) and a better value than the chain hotels we stayed at on previous trips to Richmond. We'll be back for sure. Book it!

Everything was as promised. The water gets warm at best but the drains work fine. Quit, easy parking, multiple good food options right next door.

I had a night getaway with my boyfriend of 7 years. We had dinner at Olive Garden right down the street and stayed the night in the hotel. The hotel staff was very welcoming! The bed was extremely comfortable, and the plasma TV was great. It did not have a DVD player, so my bf brought his PS3 to plug in. Easy set up. Bfast was extremely good with muffins, bagels, and a waffle machine! The only thing I could complain was the night we stayed was also the night a high school band stayed, so I could randomly hear people yelling. I would have liked it if they put us in a room away from the kids.

We stayed one night at the Berkeley, and the experience was enjoyable. We had a single room with a King bed, which was very comfortable. Really no complaints, other than a parking situation in which I had to park my own truck because the parking garage/lot was full/unavailable at the time. Other than that, no problems at all. The price was reasonable as well. Location was great, right across the street from Tobacco Co and within walking distance to other bars and restaurants in the Bottom.

Clean, hospitible, business center was functional and well placed. Rooms were well appointed and room service was prompt. Staff were VERY professional and friendly. No room service menu in the room was the only thing that wasn't perfect.

Good value but noisy

Overall a good experience - very friendly staff and good value. Only complaints were the noise (doors/walls were very thin and music/noise from pool area) and the pillows were not very comfortable (there is such a thing as *too* fluffy).
Good fruit and cereal selection at continental breakfast, but paying $6 for "hot breakfast" (eggs, sausage, biscuits) seemed to be a bit of a ripoff.
Overall a good stay though!

We were checked into the wrong room as it was already occupied (oops!) However,the hotel clerk provided us with two cold beers for our trouble and remembered me by name the next day. The Starbucks didn't have a microwave to heat up scones (What? This is 2012, right?)
Finally, the hotel bar needs a new tv behind the bar as it does not get all of the other channels on the FIOS that the other t.v.'s get.
P.S. the hotel needs a jacuzzi
Otherwise, the room was nice, comfortable and well kept.

Location was perfect for my use,but,somewhat difficult to find as it isn't directly on E.Broad St.,but,sits back behind some commercial uses.
Breakfast area was surprisingly nice with it's various choices for individual items to fix for yourself. Pool,gym were available too. (5) minute drive to downtown area with many restaurants,etc. in this area too. very happy with the selection of this Inn.

Everything a "5" except for the staff.
There was no main desk. the check-in was part of the breakfast room area. There apparently was a room behind the breeakfast room/front desk area where staff members congregated. In the mornings, During the breakfast period the kitchen staff congregated in the front desk staff area or in the back room. One had to actively seek them for assistance and or service. When found, some of them were not very congenial or friendly but rathey gave the impression that we were putting them out. . When we went to check in for the airport shuttle we had to wait until someone showed up at the front desk area. Then when they finally sent out the driver he was very surly and barely civil. Again we got the impression that we were interrupting him and he gave the impression he was not happy about it.
We would stay there again, though the front desk and breakfast area help left much to be desired.

Good place if all you want is a room

If you're looking for lots of amenities, new decor, fancy extras, or just like to pay more for a room...go somewhere else. But, if you want a clean room in which to sleep and take a shower, this is great. The place is run down but hurricane Irene did some damage so they are making necessary repairs (as of 10/15/11) which should spruce it up a bit. The elevators are super fast (although one broke down during my stay). For some reason the GUESTS were all very nice. I had a pleasant brief conversation with everyone I met on the elevator. If you like Denny's, you can walk there from the hotel.

A Modernized Enjoyable Stay

When I walked into hotel, I was immediately impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the very nice, modern design of the lobby. The modern styling extended to the room itself which was very nice and functional. In fact for a room that wasn't any bigger than a normal, small hotel room, they made the most of the area, so that I had a separate desk/work area, a living room type area, and bedroom--all very comfortable. Everything looked just like it does on the website, so no surprises. In addition, this hotel was near a large shopping center, the highway, and several good restaurants, yet tucked quietly away next to some office buildings in a nice, woodsy office park. Also, the fitness room has 4-5 pieces of equipment (treadmills, bike, etc.) that have a large video screen for the controls and also allow you to watch the hotel's cable channels or listen to local radio station. The hotel provides disposable earpods to listen in. I would recommend this hotel and will stay there again if in the area.

holds up to what you expect from a Westin

This hotel is a Westin Hotel in every way. The room is very comfortable, clean and modern. Although I was surprised at the $9.95 per day rate for internet access. The staff was very pleasant. I was most impressed by the gym. I expected a small workout room but it is actually a full gym. The restaurant also had a very good menu... drove around the area and wasn't very impressed by the food selections.. nothing I found on a Sunday came close to the hotel restaurant. I will stay at this hotel again.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The design of the hotel was sharp and sophisticated. If you plan on taking a taxi downtown, expect to pay, but it's much nicer than any of the hotels I've stayed in downtown.

Reasonably priced, acceptable quality

We stayed as a layover on our way to NC and we had our dog with us and needed a pet friendly hotel. Being a Super 8, we didn't have very high expectations for the place, but they surprised us. It wasn't too bad and even had a small refrigerator and microwave in the room. The price was great since we were just looking for some place to sleep.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. The first night there we wanted to use the room safe but the previous guests left it locked, called maintenance to come open it and maintenance gave us major attitude as if we were wasting his time. Service desk managers were very nice and helpful with directions and stuff. Our room was clean however family across the hall found numerous bugs and their 2 year old had broken out into a huge rash.
But like I said, Our room was fine, our beds and bathroom clean

We had a wonderful time. The hotel staff was very nice. Hotel is located in a nice area. The room was great. The bed was amazing. I totally recommend this hotel. Breakfast was also good. My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time. Would stay again!!!! There were stores and places to eat near by.

My fiance and I arrived with a check-in in 2 minutes. That was the best since we were lost a little getting there. But that was my fault for reading the directions wrong.
Anyway, the room was beautiful. We had a balcony overlooking the gazebo. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The location of the room was great. Not too far or too close from the elevators.
I used the exercise room while I was there and that was great. There was a tv on the treadmill but I had my shuffle to keep me motivated. The staff was very friendly.
Check-out was lovely. Just a phone call and we were on our way home. I would definitely recommend it to others.

Okay stay but probably wont return

The location of this hotel was great, not on too busy of a street - pretty easy to access. The neighborhood everything closes at 12am so thats a but inconveinent! We did miss the entrance the first time, need to move the sign closer to entrance not past it! This hotel does need a bit of upgrading, one of the reasons why we chose this hotel was for the pool, when we were there it ws green and looked like it hadnt been cleaned since last year, and it was locked. There was no place to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The showers i think are all hooked onto the same hot water tank due to showers being very hot then freezing cold! Housekeepers never came at the same time. The front desk receptionists were very nice, but we will probably stay at a different hotel next time.

Quiet and comfortable. Room was very large, beds were comfortable, no noise from outside, breakfast was extensive and good every day.

Room is large and comfortable. Bathroom has granite countertops. Hotel has rock wall decor in hallways and outdoors that looks nice. Breakfast is extensive, with waffles, eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, juices, coffee, tea, bagels, English muffins, cereals and yogurt. Very quiet except for 1 night when there was a ballgame on television in the next room. I would stay there again. It felt comfortable and safe.

It was the worst experience. [...]Upon arriving it looked closed and in horrible condition. The only rooms used were in the back of the structure. It did not feel safe, the heat/air did not work. It was not clean. It appeared that it was being used for prostitution and drug haven.

[...] this hotel claims it has refrigerators and microwaves for you. We were there for business. When we arriced it had nothing and they told us that not every room had them and that we would have to wait till they could speak to the manager the4 next day. The next day we received an old worn down refrigerator that didn't work. After having to complain again and fussing in regards to the possiblity of false advertisement that night when we came in we then received a new refrigerator and microwave.It took 2 days to receive our necessities costing us more by having to eat out instead of being able to store properly our foods already prepared and reheating them. The manager never went out of his way to even offer a discount on the rooms for this incovenience. I pray we never have to use them again. I can only describe this hotel negatively.........

The staff was very friendly from check-in to check-out. I was very happy they allowed pets. The free breakfast was a plus. The beds were not very comfortable. The only major problem was the AC/Heating unit in the room. It was very, very loud and often kept me up at night. I purchased a cheap pair of earplugs to fix that problem. Other than that, the hotel was fine.

Wife didn't care for the incense in the lobby. Breakfast shouldn't be described as Deluxe continental breakfast. There were 2 kinds of cereal plus instant oatmeal available. Some small powdered donuts, bagels and basic white bread. No fruit. Decent room for a good price.

Not the best super 8 I have ever stayed at. Cont.breakfast very poor. AC did not work very well. Room was not very clean, rug and window sills.

The Super 8 Motel was ok, meaning it was a little disappointing. Simple things like tissues in the room would have been nice. The air conditioner was very noisy. You had to flush the toilet twice in order for it to actually flush. The biggest disappointment was if you left your room for any reason you had to have your key reinitialed every time. It was good for only one swipe. This was noticed by the other couple staying in a different room than us also. Became frustrating after a while. Staff seemed to think it was a common problem.
