The bed was huge and soft. Our room as simple, but provided everything we needed. The view could have been better, but that was not really the hotel's fault. The staff was very nice. Walkable to all of downtown Austin, or just take a pedi-cab if you're lazy.

Budget Hotel for a Budget Price

The hotel was a typical budget hotel. The room was a decent size and the bed was comfortable. The tub and toliet left something to be desired. The shower backed up and the toliet seat was a cheap plastic seat that was not stable. The breakfast buffet was limited as is often the case with this chain.

The hotel is right on the lake, so it is easy to cross the bridge and hit up the sights on Congress Ave. or walk up to 6th St. and hit the bars. The Starbuck's and TGI Friday's are convenient if needed. Hardly needed the staff, as the room was fine. You have to pay to park in their garage and there is no street parking nearby, though

I could walk in less than 3 minutes to my meetings at the conference center. The hotel is adjacent to the 6th street district and walkable to Red River district and the capitol as well. Inexpensive cabs to get over to SoCo for shopping and great food truck action.

Great location to stay while in Austin

  • Bob123
  • Nov 14, 2011
This hotel is located partway between UT Austin campus and downtown. Easy access to both. The hotel was very comfortable and the staff was friendly and responsive to any issues that came up. We had a heat problem that they fixed and compensated us for. The only bad thing was the restaurant had extremely bad service during breakfast, resulting in us only eating there once for our 4 day stay. Underground garage has very tight turns and limited spaces due to some remodeling in the hotel. We were always able to find a space though. I would stay here again.

The location was great not to far from 6th st the customer service was great but the beds were extremely hard so if you are looking for a comfortable sleep, this is not the place for you unless you sleep on the couch like I did which wasn't too much btr but softer.I would stay again if there wasn't anywhere else to stay.

Decent place to stay

This hotel is an "extended stay" hotel, with a small stove and refrigerator in the room along with (very) basic cooking equipment. If you are planning to actually cook there, keep in mind that the nearest grocery store is about a mile away. The hotel was sufficient for my needs, although the fact that the TV was set automatically to Fox News (channel 12) instead of channel 2 (the default) like all other hotels was pretty annoying. What is that about?

For the price its decent. If you just need a place to sleep that is close to what Austin has to offer it is fine. We walked the city for a few days and this place was pretty centrally located to it all. And waffles for breakfast rock!

Awesome choice for budget-minded in d-town Austin

My boyfriend and I chose this place while in Austin on a roadtrip through Texas. This place was one of the cheapest options in the downtown area that had free parking, so we chose this. The room itself needed to be updated (our tv remote didn't work, internet connection was shotty, shower curtain had some mold) and by the time we got to breakfast at 8:30, everything had been eaten except for waffle mix. Outside of this, this place was perfect for getting to downtown. This is definitely the best deal in the area and would still stay here again if I'm back in the area and wanted to have quick access to the downtown area and the university.

Decent location, aging building

  • NH traveler
  • Feb 28, 2011
Pretty decent location on the Lady Bird Trail along the lake made for an easy morning run. A 10-15 minute walk to downtown meant no cabs or rental cars. Just near the hotel in a cute but decaying neighborhood on Rainey Street is El Naranjo, an incredible and creative mexican restaurant of sorts. The hotel itself was incredibly average. The staff was totally proffessional and friendly, but it's hard to compensate for a mediocre, aging building. The bathrooms and carpet didn't give you that "clean" feel. The 24" tube TV seemed a bit 1990's. This hotel was $50 more per night compared to others better appointed in other similarly prominent and sized cities recently visited such as Minneapolis.

Everything at this hotel was great. We arrived an hour early, but were still allowed to check in. Our room was tidy, pretty, and had great views. The hotel restaurant, bar and coffeeshop were excellent--everyone was so friendly. It was a quiet and central location, within walking distance to the museums, cafes, amazing food, and 6th street. Overall, a great experience. The only semi-negative thing I would say is that if you were to visit on a football weekend, I can imagine it being a bit rowdy/loud in the hotel, seeing as it's located directly on the UT campus. Go, enjoy!

We were there the night the lights went out on Sixth Street. Someone crashed into a transformer or something. We made a bee-line for the hotel, which was a short walk from the Blue Moon Bar and were pleasantly surprised that the lobby lights were on. People were in the hotel restaurant under low lighting and the elevators functioned just fine. No lights in the room all night, but who cares? Had to wait until 9:30am for hot water, but who cares? It was a Sunday morning. Thankfully, the whole staff kept their composure as they handled the more irate guests. I thought things went well, given the circumstances.

The hotel is great and the staff is wonderful and helpful. The location can't be beat. It's close to 6th Street and UT. Taxis aren't expensive, but it's better to drive in any case. I totally recommend the hotel.

I grew up in Austin and have always enjoyed downtown. We went to the UT A&M game, visited family in Northwest Austin and made a quick trip to Marble Falls. This Hyatt is a great central location. The guest room was modern and I liked the floorplan. The best was a bit too firm for me but I otherwise enjoyed it.

The room was great and comfortable and the location of the hotel was great for walking everywhere. The guest services (ie daily breakfast and social hour) was always good and helped to save money on food. The only complaint was that the water smelled and tasted terrible. Thank God there was free beer!

The rooms were immaculate! Very clean and cozy. They had everything one could need and a full kitchen. It is the perfect location to go out in downtown Austin, restaurants, clubs, ect on 6th and 4th street are all within walking distance. We would definitely stay there again but would try and work out different parking. We had 3 cars and the parking for one night was almost as much as the room. That is the one and only complaint I have.

Visiting my daughter at UT

  • Longhorn Mom
  • Nov 4, 2011
This is a terrific hotel for parents visiting their kids at UT. It's only minutes from the campus and easy to get to. The room I stayed in had a nice feel -- only unusual feature was the sink was in the main room and not the bath but it wasn't too disconcerting. A couple of things: they tried to charge me for parking but the website indicates parking is free. The front desk said they were changing their policies but were very nice about not charging me. Secondly, since it is close to UT living quarters, be prepared for loud music if you are visiting on a big party weekend as I was (Halloween). I would definitely return.

Great hotel for a weekend trip to Austin. Food, music and nightlife was all within walking distance. Roof-top hot tub was not working while we were there unfortunately. Room was wonderful except lighting was a little inadequate. No overhead lighting available except for one small light in room entrance that was burnt out. All other lighting in room was from lamps. Starbucks coffee kiosk in lobby was perfect. Overall good experience.

Once we open the door- the room smelled horrible- musty with a hint of cigars! The lighting didnt work, control was out of batteries, and the restrooms were horribly small- you can literally sit on the toilet, turn on the shower AND wash your hands at the same time... This was absolutely my worst experience in a hotel....
