We were pleasantly supprised at the cleanliness and the well-kept surroundings. We also enjoyed the drinks and snacks at happy hour and the breakfast was above average. We will go back again the next time we are in the vicinity. Good bargain, good stay.

Great Value for the $

I stayed at the hotel for 5 days. It was the lowest price I could find. The appliances are old. If the dripping water tap drives you creasy, find another place (I just closed the door to the bathroom). The room was cleaned 3 out of 4 days. I used to stay at another hotel before (two exits north on I-35), but the price was 2$ higher, and the neighborhood was crawling with homeless people (or with the people who do not have the car I should say). The general area is close to the "bad (eastern) part of Austin", but I did not see any suspicious looking individuals around Howard Johnson. The hotel is not visible from the Highway, so there is less traffic (no place to park semi). If you need a cheap place to crash for a couple of days, this is a great location.

Hotel was very comfortable, rooms were very clean
and beds were great. The hotel was in a convenient location. The walls seemed a little thin, there was a legionnaires conference at the same time as our stay
and we were unfortunately staying on the same floor as their hospitality room so they did get noisy which we
did not appreciate.

We were impressed by the friendly staff as soon as we walked in the door. The rooms were a decent size for what we needed it for...to sleep, and they were spotless. I'm 8 months pregnant so the bed was a little hard for me to get comfortable in but we requested some extra pillows and they arrived almost immediately.
My only other slight complaint was that there were multiple people standing right outside the main entrance door smoking.

Very Nice "Green" Hotel
- CupcakeCuite
- Jan 20, 2011
This hotel is actually quite nice. It is not situated in the best area, but it is just a short way to some historic neighborhoods, and public transit is very close; it is very easy to get to all the usual attractions, and more. They offer some very nice amenities, but there are some areas where there is room for improvement. It is really nice and convenient to have evening refreshments offered, but the selection definitely leaves something to be desired. As a vegetarian there was really only some crudités for me to eat. Also, as a very conscious eater, I was pretty disappointed with the mass produced, lower quality snack crackers and such that were offered. They also offer a full hot breakfast, but I really wish more of the dining staff spoke better English and was able to answer some questions I had about some of the breakfast items. They need to provide labels for the items that are vegetarian. They should also note whether or not the eggs are free range and definitely offer soymilk and other organics. The tea selection was pretty good, though. I know all these "grievances" might seem trivial, but when you're touting yourself as an innovative, Earth wise, sustainable establishment, these little things really matter to travelers like myself. On the bright side, however, the rooms are really nice, albeit a bit older, but nice. I really love that there are real dishes in them and the solar power is great. The fruit trees all around the property are also pretty nice, and you're allowed to eat from them freely. I would definitely recommend and stay at this hotel again.

Relaxing, great breakfast
- BenM
- Jan 13, 2011
I had the opportunity to stay at Habitat Suites during a seminar for work. My family went with me. When we checked in, the clerk asked if we had any special requests. I asked if they had any rooms with microwaves. She said they had some. She upgraded us to a two-story suite for no extra charge. It was great because our kids were upstairs, and we were downstairs. The breakfast bar was PHENOMENAL. There was a great variety of fruits, eggs, coffees, teas, cereals. The ambiance of the hotel was so relaxing despite being in the middle of the city. I can say that it made my stay very relaxing. The only problem was that it was a little hard to find, especially at night. If I hadn't had my GPS I might not have found it as quickly. BJM

The hotel is right on the lake, so it is easy to cross the bridge and hit up the sights on Congress Ave. or walk up to 6th St. and hit the bars. The Starbuck's and TGI Friday's are convenient if needed. Hardly needed the staff, as the room was fine. You have to pay to park in their garage and there is no street parking nearby, though

I had never been to Austin. The room was great, a nice view of the city. The staff displayed excellent hospitality and the location right in downtown Austin was perfect. I could walk in less than 3 minutes to my meetings at the conference center. The hotel is adjacent to the 6th street district and walkable to Red River district and the capitol as well. Inexpensive cabs to get over to SoCo for shopping and great food truck action.

My only disappointment was to discover that the hotel was not that close to the Austin Downtown/University area. Having lived in Austin, TX four years prior to relocating to Albuquerque, NM, the area of the hotel would better be described as "Central" Austin.
Prior to actually "booking" the hotel, I had no way of discerning how close the hotel would be to the Austin Captial Metro bus routes. The bus routes are generally very accessible in the Austin "Downtown/University" vicinity.
As it turned out, I experienced quite a walk to and from the hotel from the closest bus stop.

My boyfriend and I chose this place while in Austin on a roadtrip through Texas. This place was one of the cheapest options in the downtown area that had free parking, so we chose this. The room itself needed to be updated (our tv remote didn't work, internet connection was shotty, shower curtain had some mold) and by the time we got to breakfast at 8:30, everything had been eaten except for waffle mix. Outside of this, this place was perfect for getting to downtown. This is definitely the best deal in the area and would still stay here again if I'm back in the area and wanted to have quick access to the downtown area and the university.

Good Hotel for Business Trips

The hotel was nice overall. The bathtub was small and there wasn't a refrigerator in the room.
I don't like hotels that you are required to park in the parking garage, but they did waive the daily fees (typically $10 day).
Also they were remodeling some of the rooms and started hammering at 7 a.m.
I had to fax and refax documents, and the staff was very helpful.

Everything we experienced was great. Staff were friendly and helpful; parking was free; food was excellent; hotel was quiet;the room very comfortable; and love those Doubletree cookies!

This hotel is in the grip of a big renovation, and it's obvious. From the construction vehicles parked in all the best spots to the dust in the environment, I think it would be better to close it down for a week or two to finish everything up than to have people try to navigate the construction trash to get to their rooms.

Overall was ok. We got in a bit late and the check in person was at the end of her shift. She seemed tired but still tried to help.

the hotel staff was very helpful to accommodating me and our rugby team. I was impressed with the comfort of hotel bed and the lay out of the rooms. I did not expect that from this kind of brand of hotel. Breakfast bar was decent. Who doesn't like making waffles in the morning.

I picked this Microtel because of previous good experiences with other Microtels. This was my final night on a road trip, and I needed to be close to the airport for an 8am flight. The airport was very easily and quickly accessed from the hotel. The staff was very helpful with directions to local attractions. Great value for the price!

Staff was great - suggestions, helping with lost luggage and generally very friendly. Location is terrific for getting around. Bed could be softer and lighting in bathroom brighter.
