Wonderful Historic Hotel

  • lovememphis
  • Mar 10, 2012
The Peabody is a great, older hotel, right in the heart of Memphis. We didn't even need to rent a car, as Beale St. is only a few blocks away. The Lorraine Motel/Civil Rights Museum is also in walking distance, or there's a trolly down Main St. The two non-walking trips we took to Graceland and Sun Studios were easily reached by a tour bus from the hotel and a free shuttle from the Rock and Soul Museum (they go to Graceland as well, although we loved our bus driver's extra Elvis knowledge so are glad we decided on that option to Graceland). The ducks of course are the main attraction here, although you don't have to stay here to see them, but the lobby bar is a great place to unwind, and the main restaurant is a great place for a quick breakfast on the way out. We didn't try spa services or the other restaurants, so I can't speak to those, but it's a great hotel. As others have said, the rooms and bathrooms are small, but it's an older building, so that can't really be helped. There's wifi, helpful staff, and it's in walking distance to most attractions, so all in all was a great choice.

Great Stay and Great Location

  • Feb 13, 2011
The trip was an anniversary gift to ourselves. The hotel has a great location near Beale street and plenty of great restaurants. The hotel has been well maintained with customer service being their #1 priority. The staff always greated you with southern hospitality that made you feel like a king or queen. Be careful of the service fee. If you do not want to use the health club, shoe shine and a few other amenities make sure to opt out of the service fee when you register (I would mention $ amount, but that is restricted by [...]). There is a fee for parking a car as well.

Westin Beale St Hotel

  • mkbruin
  • Mar 26, 2012
A very nice hotel in the heart of the action off Beale St. There was so much noise and music on Beale St every night and although we were just off Beale, we heard nothing at night. The hotel is very well insulated and is near everything. Although there are lots of young people socializing and drinking, we saw no problems and there is a large police presence there every night. We enjoyed our stay.

This is pretty much your standard Econo Lodge. It's was nice for us since we were only in town for one night. The staff was nice, when we had questions about where things were they helped us out. The nicest thing was it was close to stuff. It was a couple blocks away from Beale St. and we were able to walk to the river. The biggest problem there was the elevator. I had no actual problems with it, but it's on the street which was kind of weird and it seemed old. For the price it was really good for a night, if we had stayed for a couple days we may have stayed somewhere else.

We rented this room to visit Memphis and May and it was surprisingly very nice and comfortable. The neighborhood looks a little unsecure so i wouldnt walk alone at night but other than that it was fine.

Nice hotel, right next to the trolley line. All rooms non-smoking. Handy parking. Breakfast good, excellent coffee, but no fresh fruit. We watched the NCAA basketball tournament in our room on a very poor quality TV. Overall good experience. We would stay here again.

Overall our stay was pretty good. I will say that the front desk clerk was helpful in trying to satisfy us. For the most part, we were happy. Our only complaint, was that housekeeping leaves and the front desk doesn't have excess to the linen, etc. I think this is something that needs to be revisited.

Location Needs Clarification

  • May 8, 2012
Overall, this was a great hotel. It was comfy and clean...... and the hallway of the second floor always smelled like a warm brownie (never found the source for that smell) However, it was located right across from the airport and we had no idea! We spent two nights of our honeymoon watching the planes fly. the desk clerk put us on the quiet side of the hotel, which was very nice of her, but I still have to warn those of you looking to see Memphis..... its not "in Memphis" It's right off the interstate. If you need a quick place to stay though, it's a nice hotel.

Everyone working at this hotel was super helpful and incredibly nice. The downtown location (near the Main St. trolley) and free shuttle make it easy to get around. Just call the front desk to book a tour of Graceland, Sun Studio and other big attractions. The hotel itself is what you'd expect. Basic amenities like a pool, small gym and restaurant. The room was clean and comfortable and had free wifi. Overall a good place to stay when you don't want to blow a ton of money, but expect quality service and convenience.

Overall I enjoyed my stay. I never felt unsafe. The front desk clerk was helpful with directions to different places around the city. He even told me to call if I got lost and he would help me over the phone. The coffee maker in our room didn't work the first night and they replaced it the next morning. We did have problems closing the drapes and finally rigged them. For some reason house keeping cleaned our room but didn't do a good job. We told the front desk about this. They came to the room to see what we were talking about so they could address the issues with the maid. They offered to let us switch rooms and told us they would even upgrade us to a suite. Breakfast was donuts, muffins, cereal, waffles, coffee, and juice. Nothing fancy but if you just want to get something in you until you can hit a place for lunch it's great and FREE. The room wasn't bad for what we paid for. However, if you are looking for something fancy this is not for you. There are no mints on the pillows or bathrobes in the bathrooms.

Much needed weekend getaway

  • Mikey Blue
  • Aug 30, 2011
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was neat. AC unit was a little sporadic, but not that bad. Breakfast was great. The only problem wasn't really with the hotel, just the location. Pan handling in Memphis is getting to be an epidemic. If you want to take an evening stroll, or even a walk during the day, you're going to get hit up about every other block. Keep to the trolleys or drive.

The hotel is in a good position to visit Memphis on foot. It has some rooms without windows so, when booking, check that you are selecting a room with a view. In my case, the first room was without windows but as I asked I was moved to a room on 14th floor, with a nice window!

The place is not terrible - but it isn't anything to rush back to. They are trying - but they seem to be in transition. There were none of the standard things like phone directory which didn't matter because the phones didn't work. They might develop - but right now - they are only so so.

Took a buggy ride through downtown Memphis, enjoyed the history given by our driver CZ. Recommend him. Watched fireworks from the roof top from the Baseball game. Walked the streets.

My boyfriend and I are both Memphis residents, but anytime we have an event to attend that will keep us out late at night, we get a hotel room just to escape from our everyday routine. Our room was immaculate! Extremely clean and a great size room. We were very impressed with the friendly staff who quickly got us settled into our room & checked out without feeling rushed. Wonderful experience.

The staff was great, curtious, helpful and concerned. The room and hotel was clean, comfortable and beautiful. One small problem....the gravel pit on the other side of the fence where the pool is located. Great location for access to the interstate and airport. Eating places convient..but..quite a distance from shopping and attractions.

Staff was great, continental breakfast had hot foods and was better than expected. Location was safe and secured parking. Great trip made better by hotel.

Great Stay!

This hotel had great friendly staff. The food was great. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The hot tub was a very nice plus. The only downside to our stay was the pets. A dog left a not so pleasant surprise in the hallway, but staff cleaned it up right away. I would definitely stay again and would recommend their services to family and friends.
