Westgate Resort - Myrtle Beach

Lesson learned. I paid an extra $24 per night for a queen size bed and an ocean view. The bed was fine but the view was of the roadway and shut down water park next door. When I contacted the front desk they told me to go to the window and look to the right for a view of the beach. Technically, there was the beach but I felt a bit cheated. I showed them a picture taken from my window and asked if the room could be changed to a higher floor or closer to the ocean. They barely glanced at the picture and said "Yeah that's an ocean view" and I was told to come back the next day after people checked out to see if anything freed up. Although disappointed, I decided not to waste any more time haggling with the indifferent staff. The studio was 3 rooms. A living area with full kitchen, a bedroom, a tv in each and a bathroom with a nicely tiled shower (don't sit down on the"foot stool"). The couch was very uncomfortable, the small dining table was unstable and the top would spin, the flat screen tv in the bedroom was set off to the right instead of centered (why?) and the room was not cleaned in the 3 days we stayed. They did provide additional towels upon request. We had breakfast at the restaurant and the waitress was great. Unfortunately, the food was not. Pancakes were so hard and rubbery you couldn't cut them and the french toast wasn't much better. There are several pancake restaurants on Kings Highway and Grandma's Chicken restaurant was the best we tried. I'll go back to Myrtle Beach, but I'll avoid the Westgate Resort.

We only stayed the weekend, but would have loved to be there longer. The amenities were excellent. Even though it was not listed, there was a gym with an excellent view of the beach as well as a game room for the kids. Kids eat free at the breakfast buffet with paying adult. Great proximity to TONS of activities on Ocean Blvd within walking distance. The only down side was that there was a charge for wi-fi access, although the fee was not posted anywhere or mentioned until check out.

Location is very convenient to Broadway at the Beach, several attractions, and outlet shopping. This is our fourth visit to this hotel and as usual, it was clean and pleasant. The kitchen design in the newer section is great and very easy to navigate. The guardhouse and cleaning staffs were helpful, cheerful, and appreciative of guests. Ironically, the staff at the "guest desk" interacted as minimally as possible. A warm smile can make a difference, especially for travelers expecting southern hospitality.

I had booked for a full ocean front view but was offered a room with a partial view. The staff were initially not friendly but when I persisted they responded better. Their explanation was however absolutely unsatisfactory. I felt I was let down and that hurt my entire vacation. Please make sure they stand by their word. They did not, for me.
However the hotel is great and definitely worth the money.

The hotel was well taken care of judging by the outer appearance. The pools were clean and nice as was the lazy river. There was direct acces to the beach which was beautiful! We visited off season, so it was pretty quiet, not many other hotel guests at that time (October). The lobby was small but nice. The rooms were fabulous from decor to space to cleanliness! The furniture was extremely comfortable from bed to couch to chairs! My only complaints were some of the glassware was not washed well enough and had to be rewashed, toilet paper was not full on the roll and no extra roll in cupboards(had to ask front desk) and housekeeping knocked too early for me! I'm sure all little complaints in our overalll stay. Valet service was worth it, especially if weather was bad. I would definitely stay again or recommend to a friend!

Hmmm...needs upgrade
-
Roxanne23
- Oct 19, 2011
The room: At first glance the room set up was nice, but the couch was dirty, lamps were broken, shower curtain was dirty, no utensils were available we had to ask for them two days later. There were days we had no wash rags even after we asked we only got one and there were two of us. Beds were poorly made and blankets were dirty. Sheets didn’t fit the bed so they slid off all the time. Oh, the beds hurt my back every night. We got a different maid and it was still the same. They need better maid service. Restaurant: we never ate at Grand central so don't know what it’s like. They only have one. They were in the process of opening a mini cafe bar in the lobby, never saw it put together fully. Pools: they were okay; a lazy river with a hot tub, indoor pool and two hot tubs, and an outdoor pool and a hot tub...BUT they were not clean when we went to use them. The pools had trash and roach in it. We paid for everything online so had no issues in that area. It’s very close to a lot of things, near the grand strand and Broadway at the beach. We had a jeep and we used their parking lot across the street. Hated that i could only park on the upper levels though; valet parking was 8 dollars a night and park on first level. I'm a first time driver and i parked my own jeep, so skip it. Overall it wasn't bad the hotel needs some adjustments and upgrades. Worst part was the maid service it was awful.

Great Location

We stayed in the off season and it was a good time to stay at this location.
The only real negative was the lack of close parking related to the room.
And on the morning we left the codes had been changed before check out time.
Room was comfortable and quiet; the house keeping staff had really beaten up the furniture.

Good for a change. If you live close or go to M B alot then this is a verry good change of scenery and great for off season travel. All the shops are right there. We didn't even get back in the car for 3 days.

This is a very unremarkable Myrtle Beach Hotel, but it served it's purpose nicely for New Years 2012. The beds were uncomfortable, the TV was old and small, they didn't clean the room while we were there and there was hair in the tub and toilet that really grossed me out.

I would assume the area around this hotel is more lively during peak season but the first weekend of November there is NOTHING open after 10pm anywhere near this hotel. The hotel itself is what you would expect from a 3star hotel: ok beds, small bathrooms, and ok service. Nothing special but nothing too bad either. Recommend for a cheap get away or maybe it is better during summer months?

Place was clean and was good enough for what i wanted but i have a couple of concerns
1. Was put in a Villa on the top floor w/o an elevator I have exercise induced asthma and by the third trip with my belongings I had to stop and use my inhaler..My fault..i should have asked for a first floor unit but I thought i would be placed in a unit w/ an elevator. Told the front desk but they offered nothing..
2. My incoming plans from NY changed and when I called I was told they couldnt do anything about not charging me for Friday Dec 23rd even though i was not able to get there..Their excuse was that i booked it online.
3. Was unable to get internet access in the unit..I had a weak signal that I was getting from another unit but most nights it was too slow or not there..I would hope that all the units for rent would be equipped w/ internet access..I had to go to a store to check my email this is unacceptable

Bill
- Dec 30, 2008
Ocean Forest Plaza was very comfortable. Checking in was very easy and the staff was friendly. Our suite was clean and well stocked. The sofa and chair were not very comfortable, but we spent little time in the living area. The parking garage is not easy to manuever in a larger car. However, outside parking is available for some vehicles. The location is very good, and the beach is easily accessible. Many good restaurants are nearby.

Friendly employers and staff. Maid came & cleaned our room. We had ocean front effiecency double queen beds on first floor. Pros: Easy beach access(1min walk), very quiet at night, plenty of parking, rooms were comfortable, wi-fi available, and rooms smell clean. Cons: Kitchen outdated, shower head is about 5'8" high, carpet is not the cleanest. Our view from the window/balcony is large hot tub/jacuzzi w/ the ocean in the background. Depending on your budget and your wants. Price was comparable to others around us, though some looked worse shape than our hotel. Checked reviews on this & was found close to reviews.

Room was spacious and nice. There was no trashcan in room. Next day I asked 3 times to have my room cleaned and it never was but they did finally get me a trashcan. The front desk clerk was always on a cell phone talking on what sounded like a personal call. The breakfast was non-existent. It had been there at one time -- you oould see an inch of milk in the container and an inch of orange juice in the other. One choco chip muffin and 2 stale Krispy Kremes. So if breakfast is important to you don't go here or get there early, it is not replenished. I am going back to Myrtle Beach tomorrow but I will not be staying there.

The Hotel staff was friendly and accommidating. The Hotel is beach front but is on the southren most end of Ocean Blvd in Myrtle Beach a about 3 miles from any of the shops and activities on the beach (Not realistic walking disitance). The entire hotel could use some maintainence and remodeling. However the room where kept clean. The price was great and it fit our budget and it was Ocean front. If i had more money would have staid at a resort closer to the main area on the Blvd. But if you are on a budget its not a bad choice, my wife and I would stay there again.

It's a great value for the price, with comfortable rooms and an large room. The lazy river was heated well enough to swim in despite the December month.
I wish the carpets were a little softer, but that's a small price to pay.

With so many mixed reviews about this location I honestly had no idea what to expect. I chose it primarily because of the great pricing that was available, and the fact that it was right on the beach. Although I was upset upon arrival at the late 4pm check in time, I must say that I am really pleased with my stay at this hotel. I was ecstatic to open my room door and see such a spacious area fully equipped with a small kitchen. The view from my windows were also stunning and relaxing to watch on a daily basis. On site there are a couple of pools to accommodate just about everyone in this huge! building. Location wise the hotel is about a 10 minute drive from the boardwalk which is fine because of so many restaurants/shops/grocery places scattered all over myrtle beach. The service from everyone employed at this location was great, and overall I had a great 5 night stay. The only thing that bothered me was the tight parking spaces made available, however it is FREE parking so I will take that. Besides that the hotel does seem a bit old, and in need of a renovation on the inside(nothing drastic). I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning a vacation in Myrtle Beach.

It was ok for the price. Nice location on the beach. Room service was not very good. They didn't get our trach the last two days and they never vacumed, the floor looked like the beach by the time we left very sandy. The door to the balcony would not shut the day before we left and they never got it fixed so I had to force it shut so it wouldn't be open all night. Im going to save up A little more money next year for a better hotel.

Good Hotel stay! Room was clean and had you normal hotel items in it. Shower pressure was great. Stayed in the older building and hall smelled a little, but was only in the halls for a few seconds so didnt matter much. Plus by next day it seems like the floors were cleaned and smelled better. Great access to everything.

We booked a 1 BR suite at this hotel for a weekend bachelorette get away. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable. It was more like a one bedroom apartment than hotel room, including a full kitchen, living room, dining area and washer/dryer. The beach front property was very convenient, and it was in a nice location. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this hotel to family or friends and would stay there again myself!

Was extremely disappointed with the room conditions, it's defenantly in need of upgrading, quite old looking. The view is nice and the beach, pool areas are nice. The employees are not very friendly, we were practically chased out of our room by the staff because of being a few minutes late on checkout! Very unprofessional & not impressed!

Accomodations were OK but construction in progress on renovations. Noisy from construction and rowdy guests. Not the best experience. Overall good amenities, 5 pools (2 lazy rivers 1 indoor pool), 4 jacuzzies and good beach, but did not like the room layout.
