A great vacation was had by both.

I wanted a hotel that had character and a location that would for us to walk out of the front door and be in the nightlife. That is what we had and definitely took advantage of. If you are looking for an older building with good character and history in the walls and a nice street to enjoy shopping and food, then this is the place for you.

Dripping with history (built during the Roaring 20's) and old world charm, the Francis Marion was just what I was hoping it would be. A grand lobby decorated for the holidays was an unexpected treat. Great location, lovely park across the street, shopping, museums and art galleries within walking distance. Great experience in a very cool town.

Vendue Inn is a lovely, historic property in a perfect location. Excellent restaurants (McCrady's is right around the corner), the river, coffee shops, art galleries - all the things that make Charleston such a great place to visit - are right outside your door. The staff are attentive, responsive and warm. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever had the pleasure to sleep in.

What the hotel lacks in newer furnishings and dated carpet they more than make up for in personal service. They take pride in being helpful and certainly are. The staff deserves 10 stars across the board, now update some of the furnishing and carpet and they would get a 5 star rating.

- Dec 17, 2012
Disappointed with room size (small) and location (very noisy) - spoke to management and they told me that because I booked through a third party I was allocated 'run of the house' room...I have stayed here several times before making my reservations direct with hotel and received much better accommodations. If I am to receive this type of treatment from hotel, why would I book through a third party, as hotel will guarantee same rate? - Disappointing overall. Hotel has a great location, service and staff.

This hotel is in a perfect location for the market area of Charleston. We had several restaurant selections and all of them (3) that we tried were excellent. We had 3 hotel rooms and they were all in one hallway that only had 3 rooms (4th floor), so very quiet. We felt quite safe walking around, even after dark, in the area. The room AC/Heater kicked on too often, but probably because I didn't know how to set it properly so that it wouldn't. The bed/pillow/bedding were nice.

Very good value as compared to the hotels downtown.
The staff was great. The bathroom needs updating. The shuttle service downtown was great and a good deal for $8 per day per person for all the trips you want.
I would recommend the LaQuinta if you are looking for a good value, a good breakfast, and a comfortable room.

Hotel was nice, perfect location and friendly, knowledgeable staff. TV very old, needs upgrade. Will bring continental breakfast to room, which is great if you don't want to get dressed to have your coffee. Also, complimentary wine happy hour every evening.
Thought it was expensive, and can get a cheaper hotel, but would be a few blocks away from shopping and restaurants.

The Charleston Experience
-
TandB
- Dec 28, 2012
The hotel and amenities were fine, but the best thing about it is its location. It's within a 10-minute walk of many great restaurants, all kinds of shopping, the Market and much more. If you're a walker, lots of interesting old neighborhood streets close by. The price was quite reasonable compared to other hotels in the immediate area. It's owned by Holiday Inn, but has a very different "feel" to it and there are no Holiday Inn signs or logos to be seen.

This hotel had a great location. Near several restaurants and right next to the water. It had a great bed and breakfast feel without the price! We stayed for our wedding anniversary and were greeted with a smile. Very charming with solid wood doors, molding, wrapping staircase. Wine and cheese served at 5pm in the drawing room. Breakfast from 7-9am that included home made biscuits. Within walking distance of several ghost tours, wine tastings, open-air market, waterfront. Perfect!

We stayed two nights in Charleston & this was an ideal location as it provided car parking. The courtessey bus was ideal for getting to & from Charleston & was the second reason I chose this hotel. I was not pleased when I found we had to pay for breakfast as I thought I'd prepaid for this especially as the second night was £98 but as it was not printed on my details there was nothing I could do. Breakfast was not worth the $9.95, we'd had better in Savannah

My wife was upset that there weren't two rooms so that the kids could sleep while we were up. The next night on our 3 night stay, they put us into a room with a king and a pull out sofa for the 3 and 7 yr old which was fine. The other room had extra room and a beautiful private balcony as well. Friendly people and the pool location is superb.

By the elevator service room

This business trip went by quickly with a comfortable bed and a good breakfast. The biggest downside was the size of the room and bathroom and it's location next to the elevator service room. Every time the elevator was used there was a lot a screeching, groans and mechanical noise as it struggled in the loudest way. Luckily I was very tired and slept through most of it.

I wouldn't mind living there. The suite has everything you need. My only minor issue was that I could hear people walking in the suite above. Try to get a room on the third floor.

Our room was spacious, daily tea and sherry in the ballroom was a treat, and breakfast was fantastic. This is one of the best Inns/B&B's we've stayed in. You really had the best of both worlds--the feeling of being in an historic home, yet having all of the modern conveniences. I also can't say enough about the staff, especially [...] and [...].
