What travelers to Downtown are saying

There is so much to do in Charleston - and for every age and interest. It really is a vibrant city that has captured the romance of an old historic town melded with the excitement of an up-and-coming 'big city'. It's a paradise for food, art and antique lovers. Ideal for romance, outdoor activities, fun for children. My 3 year old loved the aquarium, beaches, water taxi, Middleton Plantation, swamp tours, Patriots Point, Children's Museum of the Lowcountry, waterfront park (splashing in the fountain) and, most especially, the Center for Birds of Prey. The people are generally very friendly and hospitable.

Don't get me wrong, I did really like Charleston, but that's only because I kept comparing it to Savannah. Not a lot of green space, although Washington Square was very nice. As far as walkability, it can be somewhat walkable. I stayed on the East side closer to the market area, but if you want to travel over to the West side, I would recommend driving over, finding a place to park , then walk around. Also the sidewalks were a bit on the small side and the drivers are not concerned with pedestrians. However, it is a very clean city with a lot of history and no shortage of restaurants.

Charleston was one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. A quick two hour plan ride from Boston and a short can ride to the Elliot House where we stayed. We only went from Wednesday afternoon to Saturday afternoon but planned and researched before going to make the most of our trip. Went to magnolia plantation and swamp, the charleston aquarium, haunted 9pm prison tour, enjoyed a stroll through the market, folly beach with lunch at taco boy. So much to do at any price range. Food options are endless and each place is delicious.
