Great Getaway from Detroit

  • JB27
  • Nov 24, 2011
We booked this hotel on a first trip to Pittsburgh knowing that we wanted a relatively good deal and 3 or 4 star hotel. It was totally that! The room was a great size and had its own nice size couch and flat screen tv in a seperate area with refridge. We took advantage of the bistro in the lobby and had no complaints. My only gripes- paying $19 a night to park in the hotel's parking lot and having them over sell the lot and forcing me to park outside the lines! There are other lots in the area to park in for much cheaper. Also, it is a bit of a distance to the city center. All and all, We would definitely return!

Pet-friendly hotel just outside city center Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, located just outside Pittsburgh's city center, is currently in the midst of a transformation from a Ramada property. Guests enjoy several free amenities, including Wi-Fi Internet access in all rooms, continental breakfast, and airport shuttle. For now, however, guests may have to deal with sporadic construction in the hotel's public spaces. The hotel allows pets (fees apply). Highlights Pet-friendly property (USD $25)Rooms with balconiesFree Wi-Fi Internet access Free continental breakfast Rooms Each of the hotel's 201 rooms on the second, third, and fourth floors has a balcony. All rooms also have free Wi-Fi Internet access, free local calls, free coffee, and pets are welcome. Guests pay a $25 pet deposit for their entire stay, plus $25 per pet. Two pets are allowed and each must weigh 30 pounds (13.6 kg) or less. Features Clarion Hotel and Conference Center was, up until September 2010, a Ramada property. With the transfer of ownership now complete, the new management is on track to make the hotel similar to others in the Clarion chain. This name change has resulted in construction to the main lobby and the hotel's restaurant, Longnecker's. Construction will continue for the near future, though hotel management says it occurs in the overnight hours, or when the hotel is not busy, and never on weekends. The restaurant's hours are sporadic due to the construction schedule.   What has not changed, though, is the hotel's free continental breakfast. Guests can also take advantage of a small outdoor pool in the hotel's courtyard, a free shuttle to the airport, and free local calls. A little hard to find at night because the place is getting remodeled and the signs are missing. Major renovations have things messy and problems with some rooms (Sink backed up when we entered room). Some of the rooms look a little tired and worn but maybe they will get fixed up too. Very satisfying visit. Clean and commodious and well situated for our purposes (and just across the street from the nearly divine Eleven restaurant.) The price, at 145 for a king NS was fair given Pittsburgh rates. The breakfast was impressive. Unfortunately at 8:15, while we slept, a false alarm sounded that sent us scurrying to the foyer in our wraps. No "all clear" was given. When I asked I was told all was well. Harumph!

The hotel was absolutely gorgeous, room was a good size and the bed was extremely comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and accomodating and the hotel is a walk to most things you would want to see in Pittsburgh. My only complaint is that you have absolutely NO control over the temperature. Because its such an old building they control the heat and AC from a central unit. Our room was STIFLING. Finally after several hours of tossing and turning (and sweating) I called the front desk. Obviously there isn't much they could do but someone was kind enough to bring a box fan up and we put it near our window with it open for the rest of the night. It was 40 degrees outside and I still had to sleep with just a sheet on. Perhaps they should consider that you can always add more blankets but there is only so many layers you can get rid of.

What a treat to stay at the priory. The building is lovely. The history is so unique. the rooms have a nice binder with great restaurant reviews and story of how the priory was saved from being demolished for an interstate. The room was cozy. Everything inside felt fresh and newly painted. What a delightful experience amidst the hubub of work. Easy access to downtown, interstate and delicious restaurants. A peaceful retreat. I will be back.

We were looking forward to this hotel very much, it seemed to have some character. Unfortunately, the room was very basic & the bathroom itty bitty. We heard a lot of loud conversations in the middle of the night, too, which we slept threw mostly, but was still quite annoying. The breakfast was also pretty standard. We went to Pittsburgh to see some ballgames at PNC park. The hotel is within walking distance. The hotel appears to have been recently updated. The rooms were great and all of the people were extremely courteous and helpful. It is also within walking distance of the "strip" where my wife found several things that she just had to have.

Not a bad location and people are polite

  • PiTT in Steelers
  • Dec 1, 2011
The location of the hotel was not that bad. It was relatively farther than any other hotels that are located near the University of Pittsburgh. However, it was in walkable location (about 15 minutes away from the school). Also, if we consider the price. it was a good deal. However, they do not provide any breakfast. So, you need to find stores that are near by. But, then on same building, there is Panera. So, I guess it was OK.

This was the most reasonable hotel I found in Pittsburgh near the University. Still, it was great! Fresh coffee in the lobby any time. The rooms have coffeemaker, a refrigerator and a microwave. Rooms were kept clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. They run a shuttle for the vicinity. Bus lines are nearby as is the hospital. Restaurant in building for breakfast and sandwiches. What's not to like?

We stayed just one night at this hotel, but the staff were very welcoming and nice. So we enjoyed talking to them. The room was clean but although we required non smoking room,it smelled smoke. The breakfast area was very spacious and clean. The breakfast was really good and the lady working there was so nice and polite! But we did not like the pool because we found it not that clean! In general I should say it is a good hotel but I prefer new building hotel that everything is newer.

The Birthday Getaway

  • Zetta
  • Aug 31, 2011
My husband purchased a 3 night stay at this hotel for me for my birthday, which I thought was very beautiful! The hotel didn't have any accomodations for romance. I advised the front desk that my husband was partially paralyzed in his leg & she saw him with his cane, but she still put us on the 4th floor at the very end of the floor, completely at the oposite end of the only elevator. Also, we ordered 1 meal from room service & it came to $50, which we could afford, but we didn't order any drinks or champage (which was not offered). Only wine & beer was offered. The hotel only had 2 place where we could order from & since we were dropped off by a driver there wasn't anywhere we could go & we weren't offered any information on transportation from the hotel. What we did like about the hotel is that is was very clean and well organized. There needed to be a fan in the bathroom for the steam from the shower and the walls from the connecting room was a little thin, but the room was ok.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Bad first- Breakfast was NOT free, the hotel has a restaurant in it and the want you to pay for it. The hotel has a "going green" idea. They are trying to conserve water and will not change your sheets everyday unless you put the "clover" card on the bed. I put mine on the bed because I ate in the bed and spilled syrup in it. That night when I returned to the hotel they made the bed but didn't change the sheets. Location is 20 minutes away from downtown, traffic was backed up for miles. If you have a gps use it to avoid the highway. The good- The hotel was clean Food at restaurant was great and affordable Staff was kind and helpful Overall a great stay for a wonderful price. I would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel wasn't bad even though it was next to highway. There was no refrigerator in the room, but there was free coffee and shuttle service within a three mile range of the hotel.

Horrible Experience

I booked this hotel two weeks before our scheduled mini-vacation. When we arrived to check-in, our room key didnt work (while the entire upstairs hallway smelled of weed). The receptionist again activated our key, and again it didnt work. During the wait in the lobby, 'call-girls' and their 'bosses' kept coming in and out, going upstairs with different men. Finally the receptionist said he could give us a different room, but this one didnt have an AC, for $10 off( and this is during the heat-wave in the Northeast, where the temp was 87 degrees at midnight). We refused that, and asked for a refund, but since I booked thru [...], I was told I would have trouble getting my money back. Finally we got a free upgrade to a jacuzzi suite for what we were told would be for the 1st night only. This 'suite' room had broken glass and open safety pins on the floor, pubic hairs in the shower, the bathroom faucet had no temp settings - it was just hot water, the jacuzzi had something crusted to the sides and bottom, the shower had horrible water pressure, and the mini-fridge didnt work.In the morning, I talked to the manager, and he did end up letting us in the same room for both nights, which was a plus. If you like hotels in the ghetto, creepy men outside making gross comments, and cigarette burned sheets, then this hotel is perfect for you. But I would recommend spending the few extra dollars for a room closer to the city, and in better condition.

Room was not available at 12:00 because cleaning crew came in late? Room was clean but small, bed was uncomfortable and pilllows were also small. Ok if you just need a place to crash for the night.

Went to see the Phillies play. PNC Park was nice (but not up to par with Citizens) and everyone was so friendly at the ball field and walking around town. The "Inclines" were not what I expected. I thought there would be just restaurants, bars and stores at the top -- not people living there.
