I was in Pittsburgh for business downtown and southside so I picked this location. It was my first visit to Pittsburgh and so this location on 10th st was great - easy access. Room was clean and bright, fitness facility was clean and organized, excellent! Staff were friendly and easy to talk to. Only concern was my room was at the elevator, near the ice machine - I'll avoid this next time.

With the transfer of ownership now complete, the new management is on track to make the hotel similar to others in the Clarion chain. This name change has resulted in construction to the main lobby and the hotel's restaurant, Longnecker's. Construction will continue for the near future, though hotel management says it occurs in the overnight hours, or when the hotel is not busy, and never on weekends. The restaurant's hours are sporadic due to the construction schedule.   What has not changed, though, is the hotel's free continental breakfast. I enjoyed my stay at the Priory. The front desk staff was super helpful when I needed to check in early, the bartender in the little bar downstairs was friendly and the room was cute. The bathroom is small, but it's an old converted monastery; they aren't known for their spacious baths. I was here by myself on business, so it was a bit of a different experience, but it was close to downtown and very charming. I'd definitely stay here again.

Not perfect, good bang for buck however

  • nybites
  • Dec 25, 2012
For 79 bucks a night, you cannot go wrong. Has a nice comfortible bed, the bathroom is expanded and not cramped. The tub is small but most travelers take showers. My room was very clean, however you are your own maid if you chose to change linens and unclutter after our first night. The cleaning is done weekly or between guests. That did not sour me, I am not a slob to begin with and you could change sheets out if you desired. laundry right on site. If you want to spend over 169 a night and have daily cleaning so be it, I would rather put the 90 bucks in my pocket and tidy up myself. Plenty of shopping and restaurants in the area. If you like upscale, Station Square area is 10 minutes up the highway, most of the south side is very nice. Also easy access to hotel no sweat, only outdoor parking, about 12 minutes from airiport. The workout room is bigger than expected. Some people complained about the lack of a continental breakfast, I get it. But there is a fridge, stove, microwave, toaster and coffe maker right in the room, I like that option for a few reasons. FIrst off you can hit Super Wal Mart or Target and get fresh food and produce both wsalking distances away. Secondly, nobody else handles your food except yourself. The pantry on site is not bad, I just pefer more variety. Pots, pans, dishes right in the room with a dishwasher. Just and option, most people eat out when they travel, but sometimes it's nice to just chill out, watch tv and make something quick. without waiting for a table or fighting traffic. The firdge is nice too, keep cold beverages in the room instead of getting ripped off at a soda machine every time you're thirsty.

This was my second stay at a Candlewood Suite and it was a pleasant one. Having a 42 lb. dog makes finding a good, clean and comfy facility difficult, so I am quite grateful for this chain. And having ample green space to take the dog walking is a real plus. It is affordable and the staff helpful and pleasant. I wish that they had rollaway beds that one could rent. My daughter flew in to surprise us while we were there (Pittsburgh) and there was no place for her to stay as we were not in the one bedroom. And the hotel was completely booked! But having to fly out at the crack of dawn with the airpot only an exit away, made Candlewood extra appealing.

Nothing extra special

  • NakoMas
  • Aug 12, 2012
Went to Pittsburgh to see a Pirates game and researched several hotels in the area. This one promised great views as well as a nice location. Location was neat being on the river and close to the ferry (which we took to the game...very cool) but the view from our room was of the lobby? Also, bedspread was not clean and we ended up not even wanting to use it because it had a giant stain on it. Bathroom wasn't the cleanest either...needed a good bleach cleaning. For the money we spent it was definitely not worth it.

Pittsburgh - Wyndam Grand

  • Chupa23
  • Oct 15, 2012
This hotel was above average for the a downtown hotel. The rooms are small, with tight entrances and bathrooms. The staff for the whole was courteous and efficient. The food was well above average. The only complaint I would offer here is when I asked the doorman how to get to the subway station, he never answered the question. He kept saying the hotel van would take me where I needed to go. Even when i explained the subway dropped me off in the basement of the building i was working in; he kept saying the van was the way to go.

Catching up with an old friend

  • Old friend from New Mex
  • Dec 11, 2012
The room was clean, but ordinary. Not very large. Well worth the money though! I ate dinner at the bar and the food was excellent. I wanted to order a vodka martini, however, and was told that there was no vodka. The bar was very sparsly stocked. I ordered breakfast to be delivered to my room and it was very good, although I ordered ham and was given bacon. The staff was very friendly and nice.

I would recommend this Hotel to everyone. I love the Pittsburgh Steelers and had this trip on "My Bucket List". The Hotel was fabulous in completing this dream. I loved the banner over the reception area that said "You're in Steeler Country". The hotel personnel were fabulous in helping us. The room was immaculate and Tim, the shuttle driver, was fantastic with our shuttle excursions. I want to go back again!

Location. Location. Location.

  • Oct 12, 2012
When you stay at the Shadyside Inn, you feel like a local. Shadyside is a safe neighborhood, full of students and families. The bus stop is right outside the door, and the Walnut Street shopping district (upscale chains, locally-owned food and drug stores, and plenty of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, etc.) is a 5 minute walk away. Fifth Avenue is remarkable flat and great for running or walking. The architecture is varied and interesting. The accommodations, rather than being typical hotel rooms, are 40-50-ish year-old converted apartments. My suite was meticulously clean. The bed was quite comfortable, with a memory foam mattress topper and nice linens. The kitchenette and bathroom were dated, but, again, meticulously clean and well-kept. There are a few idiosyncrasies due to the age of the building. The radiators make it difficult to regulate the temperature - the bathroom, in particular was uncomfortably warm - however, the windows can be opened, and there is an ac unit and ceiling fan. For similar reasons, I assume, the hot water temperature is extremely hot. The elevator is s-l-o-w, and sound from the hallways carries into the rooms. I found all of these to be minor issues. There is complimentary in-room coffee. It is L.O.U.S.Y. (see note above regarding Walnut Street to remedy this). I appreciated the complementary breakfast goodie bag (2 muffins, 2 apple juices, two granola bars) and the offer of complementary bottled water. There was plenty of storage space (2 large closets, a large dresser, and a linen closet) and many lighting options. Overall, my one-night stay was quite enjoyable. I think I would enjoy a longer stay, whether for business or pleasure. This may now be my preferred place to stay in Pittsburgh.

Staff are very friendly and considerate. Coffee is ready 24 7, newspaper is provided daily as well as travel info in pittsburgh area. room is clean, a little small but enough for a couple (maybe not for a whole family). located by I 376, very convenient to get to, in a safe neighborhood, very close to Mount Washington where you can view the whole city of Pittsburgh. I feel it's well worth the money.

I needed a place to land between meetings Saturday night and a reunion Sunday morning. The Best Western was reasonably priced. The room was small but comfortable. The downsides were that the walls were thin, so I had to listen to lengthy conversations from the neighboring rooms and the WIFI required plugging into a cable, which was less comfortable than propping myself up on the bed and relaxing while I worked.

Great location for arrival & departure

  • JMDO
  • Dec 30, 2012
Very nice hotel; walking to and from the airport can't be beat! Main complaint is the obvious one: not a lot in the neighborhood, especially food options. Lobby coffee bar has next to no food, and the options outside security in the airport are pretty poor, too. Grabbing something to eat for breakfast or late night without spending money on room service is tough.

We found the hotel with out any problem. The hotel looked very nice and the staff was friendly. We found out that we had to pay another $20 to park the car. We felt that the prices at the hotel restaurant were very high so we did not eat there.

Not bad, could have been better

Bed was not made when I reached my room, but it was on the next day. Morning staff was friendly but night desk man had to be woken up twice because for some reason my room key was deactivated and I couldn't enter the lobby, let alone my room. Also, a channel listing for the tv would have been nice seeing as how the channels on the tv didn't match. Still, it was comfortable and reasonably priced for my needs. Plus the free wi-fi worked great! If you only need a room for a way station like I did, it's not a bad choice. If you need it for more and want more amenities -- like pay per view or a pool -- you may want to spend a little extra and stay somewhere else.

Business Trip Pittsburgh

  • Theatre Geek
  • Oct 22, 2012
I travel a great deal for business so I know hotels: this is a wonderful hotel. The room layout is unique and cozy, not the usual cookie-cutter room. It was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only thing I would ask for would be more electrical outlets for my assorted electronic devices. I had to hunt along the walls for outlets and ended up recharging my cellphone in the bathroom.

Initially I thought this hotel was in the middle of nowhere but its actually across the street from a pretty nice mall and a number of restaurants which worked out just fine for us. The room was bigger than normal with two queen beds and a sofa couch. The breakfast is the only negative I find, it's not very good and the area is very small and getting around to gather the items to eat, I find to be very annoying.

A Good Deal!

  • Keldel
  • Sep 20, 2011
Had an overnight stay in a room with a king bed. The room was nicely appointed and the layout of the room was quite comfortable. There was a seperate bar area with a refrigerator. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. They had a list of restaurants in the area available and they immediately noted the complimentary shuttle bus which was necessary as although some restaurants within walking distance we weren't too sure about walking through a darkened parking lot to get back to the hotel. The hotel is in the middle of a shopping area . Comfortable, clean, friendly staff, and a quck and easy continental breakfast fit the bill nicely!
