Great Getaway from Detroit

- Nov 24, 2011
We booked this hotel on a first trip to Pittsburgh knowing that we wanted a relatively good deal and 3 or 4 star hotel. It was totally that! The room was a great size and had its own nice size couch and flat screen tv in a seperate area with refridge. We took advantage of the bistro in the lobby and had no complaints. My only gripes- paying $19 a night to park in the hotel's parking lot and having them over sell the lot and forcing me to park outside the lines! There are other lots in the area to park in for much cheaper. Also, it is a bit of a distance to the city center. All and all, We would definitely return!

The hotel was absolutely gorgeous, room was a good size and the bed was extremely comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and accomodating and the hotel is a walk to most things you would want to see in Pittsburgh.
My only complaint is that you have absolutely NO control over the temperature. Because its such an old building they control the heat and AC from a central unit.
Our room was STIFLING. Finally after several hours of tossing and turning (and sweating) I called the front desk. Obviously there isn't much they could do but someone was kind enough to bring a box fan up and we put it near our window with it open for the rest of the night.
It was 40 degrees outside and I still had to sleep with just a sheet on. Perhaps they should consider that you can always add more blankets but there is only so many layers you can get rid of.

My husband purchased a 3 night stay at this hotel for me for my birthday, which I thought was very beautiful! The hotel didn't have any accomodations for romance. I advised the front desk that my husband was partially paralyzed in his leg & she saw him with his cane, but she still put us on the 4th floor at the very end of the floor, completely at the oposite end of the only elevator. Also, we ordered 1 meal from room service & it came to $50, which we could afford, but we didn't order any drinks or champage (which was not offered). Only wine & beer was offered. The hotel only had 2 place where we could order from & since we were dropped off by a driver there wasn't anywhere we could go & we weren't offered any information on transportation from the hotel. What we did like about the hotel is that is was very clean and well organized. There needed to be a fan in the bathroom for the steam from the shower and the walls from the connecting room was a little thin, but the room was ok.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights.
Bad first-
Breakfast was NOT free, the hotel has a restaurant in it and the want you to pay for it.
The hotel has a "going green" idea. They are trying to conserve water and will not change your sheets everyday unless you put the "clover" card on the bed. I put mine on the bed because I ate in the bed and spilled syrup in it. That night when I returned to the hotel they made the bed but didn't change the sheets.
Location is 20 minutes away from downtown, traffic was backed up for miles. If you have a gps use it to avoid the highway.
The good-
The hotel was clean
Food at restaurant was great and affordable
Staff was kind and helpful
Overall a great stay for a wonderful price. I would absolutely stay here again.

A Good Deal!

Had an overnight stay in a room with a king bed. The room was nicely appointed and the layout of the room was quite comfortable. There was a seperate bar area with a refrigerator. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. They had a list of restaurants in the area available and they immediately noted the complimentary shuttle bus which was necessary as although some restaurants within walking distance we weren't too sure about walking through a darkened parking lot to get back to the hotel. The hotel is in the middle of a shopping area . Comfortable, clean, friendly staff, and a quck and easy continental breakfast fit the bill nicely!

Very nice hotel, situated close to the IKEA and other shopping. Not many local restaurant choices in the area - we avoid chains and really look for the local place to eat.
Inorder to get into the hotel, you drive through the Kohls loading dock area - not a very welcoming area but the hotel itself was great.

Weekend to Pittsburgh

- Oct 10, 2011
The hotel was very nice and Courtney at the front desk was very efficient at getting us checked into our room. We were in town for a bodybuilding competition and were on a tight schedule. We went up to our room to check it out and our room had a beautiful view and was very clean (the walk in shower turned the bathroom into a steam room! awesome!) We were there for 2 nights and everyone we encountered on staff were all very courteous. The beds were AMAZING! Needless to say, I really didnt want to leave to make the trek back to Ohio.

I was in Pittsburgh for a Saturday college football game with an early flight out Sunday morning so I opted to stay close to the airport. This hotel was very convenient. It's an easy drive into the city (15 minutes or so) and very close to the airport, with a free airport shuttle. The hotel itself was great. The lobby was very chic and modern. The rooms were spacious with very comfortable beds, nice decor and huge bathrooms. I couldn't have been happier with the room. I didn't eat at the hotel, but I did notice both a cafe type eatery with breakfast sandwiches, etc as well as a small market for snacks.
My only complaint is that the driveway into the hotel is only accessible from one direction due to the street configuration. So if you are coming up the hill towards the hotel, you need to do a u-turn or find a place to turnaround.

Great for Business

I was in Pittsburgh for business, and the Courtyard by Marriott in Shadyside perfectly fit my needs. It's within walking distance of a diner (yummy 24 hour breakfast), a Boston Market (for cheaper eats) and a fancy delicious restaurant (Toast!, for a treat). With a Starbucks right in the hotel, all my eating needs were met. The hotel itself was clean and quiet, and I was very happy with my stay.

Shadyside restaurant/shopping district within easy walk. Starbucks in hotel; Panera a stone's throw away; plus hotel restaurant provide several breakfast options. In-room fridge and Giant/Eagle grocery only 3 blocks away means inexpensive OJ, milk, etc. for in-room breakfast and snacks.
Valet parking ONLY at $18/day was total surprise, added to cost, and decreased overall value.
Biggest complaint: the individual room heating/AC system. It reminds me of a unit in an old Holiday Inn - very noisy, and the air blows in your face when you sit at the desk.

The room was clean and moderately comfortable, but the location is very good for area shopping, eating, and getting to the airport. There are many strip malls, restaurants, and a large mall within a couple of miles of the motel. I wouldn't recommend this motel for a vacation stay, but if you're going to the airport and want to stay somewhere the night before, this motel is very reasonable.
