This, our second stay at the Paramount, was even better than the first. The staff were extremely polite and attentive, the room was very comfortable, even including a jacuzzi large enough for two. Minor caveats: limited closet space (something has to give); the onsite bar and restaurant (Dragonfish Asian cafe) is not up to the standard of other features; the high cost of valet parking, which jacks up the rate quite a bit, and to be be fair, is no more than other downtown hotels charge for the same service.

This is a beautiful old hotel that is very inviting with it's early western /turn of the 19th century decor. The food is very good (try some of the bar food...terrific) and the staff attempts to please and had a smile for you each time you went to the desk. The things that need improving would be the addition of direct TV and an update/expansion of the workout room. Overhead exhausts in the bathroom should be installed. The price, however, was excellent when combined with air fair through ORBITZ. I prefer the better price than the increase expense of updates I mentioned. I would certainly stay there again when I am in Portland!

We stayed 4 nights, then extended cuz the location was in walkable distance to downtown & close to bus stop. Room was clean, outside patio had potted flowers but wasn't swept. Minimal amenities, such as sharing newspapers. Near an ambulance station so sirens sounded every so often. Adjoining tavern/restaurant not very clean. Price online less than what they could offer on site.

Screaming Deal
-
TravelLove
- Jan 2, 2012
I always struggle with the extra charge for internet in better hotels, as less expensive hotels make this free. Breakfast was beyond the typical bad buffet, and included items off the menu (though we had to point this out to the waitress, who would have preferred we do the buffet). Parking was an extra fee, which we were not aware of, but because we got such a great deal ($70 per night with a special online deal) it was no big deal. Loved the bar vibe (and the cookies, of course).

The location is nice: it's right off the streetcar at the beginning if the downtown free-fare zone. So, it's easy to get to from the airport by the streetcar and then easy to get to the rest of the city from there.
The room was spacious, with a nice view, the curtains closed completely and easily doing a reasonable job of blocking the light.
There is an outdoor pool (closed for the season when we were there) and no free breakfast nor free internet (except in the small business center in the lobby), things that were difficult to discern from the hotel's website.

There was a big discount when I booked this hotel, and it was well worth the discounted price. It wasn't fancy but it was in a convenient location. The beds were comfortable. If you're just looking for a place to crash while you enjoy downtown Portland, this is a good option.
There was a hairball near the sink but everything else appeared clean. You have to scan your room key to use the elevators and their card reader wasn't great.

The hotel was nice but you can tell it is ageing a little bit. The bed was very big and very comfortable. I slept very well all three nights. The pillows were a little small. The TV was nice and big but the quality of the channels was bad and the sound was very scratchy. We had an event at the convention center and this hotel is almost across the street. Very easy to get to from the airport as well.

A Portland Gem

The suite was quite comfortable and had all the amenities one wants. The staff was EXCEPTIONALLY polite, friendly, helpful, and cheerful. I have never encountered at another hotel staff that were equal to those at the Monaco! This was my second stay there and it will be my hotel of choice in Portland in the future. For pleasantness, comfort, price, and location it cannot be beat.

Came into Portland for an academic conference and ended up bundling a hotel in with my airfare because official conference hotels were full. Monaco turned out to be nicer than the official conference "big brand" hotels -- much nicer. Wonderful staff, great amenities. This is where I'll stay whenever I'm in Portland.

Great stay in downtown Portland
-
Sanantonio traveler
- Jan 29, 2012
During our stay the hotel was under construction (should be fininshed by mid February 2012). Even so, we did not hear construction noise and we had a terrific stay. The temporary lobby works great and there are many restaurants within walking distance. Know that you have to pay for parking ($30) and that the internet is also not free ($13).

Logistics and Lighting

The Hotel is located on a busy intersection in down-town Portland, and is a nightmare to both get to and off-load. One way streets, a small drop off area and location all make getting to the hotel and checking in (on the 8th floor) a little clumsy to say the least.
The hotel staff were nice, but we felt our inner room that faced the atrium was quite dismal, and lacked privacy if you wanted to open your curtains, and as the rooms were very dimly lit one felt the need to open them for additional light.
The hotel is located in a very popular area for street people, there seemed to be a fair share of begging going on.
I can't say we ever felt unsafe, but it was a bit much after a while.
Nice hotel

We stayed for 2 nights for our honeymoon. We had very good service! The only weird thing was that the staff did not inform us that we needed to swipe our room key everytime we got on the elevator to go anywhere. Also the first night we got to the hotel the room was simply cleaned..the second night we asked for housekeeping and we came back to some small chocolate brownies on our pillow...we didn't have any of that on the first night.

This was our second stay at the fantasic Lucia and we will be back. The location is excellent. You do not need a car as it is in walking distance of everything downtown, the waterfront, and the MAX is right there if you need it. Blue Star Shuttle will drop you at the doorstep from the airport.
The staff is fantastic. The lobby sleek and beautiful. The rooms quiet and comfortable. The bar/restaurant downstairs is wonderful to sit and enjoy a cocktail.
I am not a fan of the spray shampoo they offer, so bring your own or Rite aid is 2 blocks down.
There are restaurants of all kinds nearby and a bakery around the corner. My beaux gets his haircut (and a beer) at the cool Barbershop next door.
A wonderful stay any time of year.

Great room rates over the Thanksgiving weekend. The entire staff, from desk personnel to the valet guys, couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. The holiday parade went by the front of the hotel. I had an interior courtyard room which was silent without a bit of street noise. The room size was adequate but not more, with a large, spacious bathroom.

Delightful staff, beautiful lobby. I was disappointed with our room. Small and cramped for queen bed, lacking the character of the rest of hotel. If I would have know, i would have paid more for a view and a little more pizazz

Our stay at Hotel DeLuxe was enjoyable. The hotel's location allowed for a short walk to downtown restaurants and shoppping, but was still a little out of the way.
The staff was very helpful in making recommendations for dinner and getting us reservations.

New Years Eve at RiverPlace

This is a very beautiful hotel. The lobby is well appointed. I especially liked the fire place area. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and comfortable. The riverfront location gives the hotel a spectacular view and easy access to the river front trail that goes for miles.
However, they had nothing special going for New Years Eve. The bar closed at 11. The courtyard on the second floor which would have been a great place to ring in the New Year was closed at 10.

My only issue with this hotel is the difficulty with parking. I had to park in a lot and pay $16 a day. Parking is challenging here.

Under construction
-
sohoben
- Dec 2, 2011
Without telling me that the hotel was under considerable construction, the staff addressed most of my needs, finding a better room, upgrading me for free. One day when I had to work in the room I could not escape the construction noise. I wish I knew about the renovations in advance. Staff was very responsive and accommodating. Room comfort was "dinged" because of construction noise during the day only. Wait til after the renovation is completed!

Hotel is in a great location. The hotel is within walking distance to several good restaurants and only two blocks from the Portland MAX which provides access to downtown Portland. Underground parking is tight, but adequate. Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast bar was a good value. I would stay here again when traveling in the area.

I travel to Portland frequently for business. I use the same hotel due to proximity to my place of business. This trip was for 3 nights. My room was not cleaned on the second day, bed not made, NO TOILET PAPER in the bathroom. Also, I requested a wake up call for 7 am on the second day of my stay. No one called, luckily I woke up on time by myself.
