Family Fun Christmas
- Dec 26, 2012
We stated at the Gannsevoort hotel for three nights in December. The hotel was nice and in a good location. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was ok, we were near the elevator so it was exceptionally noisy which was tough with a 4 year old. The only issue we had was not all of the TV channels were working and it took two calls to engineering for them to fix it.
Would stay there again.

Perfect location for our first visit to NYC. Walking distance to Empire State bldg, Grand Central Terminal, Times Sqr, Rockefeller Center, great shopping and much more. Little pricey, but that is what you should expect for a world class hotel. Staff was very nice and welcoming. It was our anniversary and they had a card, cake, and champagne waitng in our room. We stayed in a king suite and it was very large and well appointed. Loved that the drinks in the mini fridge were free and stocked daily. We will be staying here again!!!

Good Hotel. The room was clean. Absoluitely no view: they put us in a room a back of Hotel, but I was a "one-nighter", so I didn't care. Staff was nice and obliging. Emily wanted a massage on short notice (on a Saturday, yet) and they obliged--for $286, which must be a new world record. On balance, it was a nice experience, although I prefer the Regency (which was not available, or priced out of sight).

Perfect location for central park and short walk to broadway and times square.
Hotel was lovely and staff were very helpful but restaurant, room service and bar prices very expensive.
Would definately recommend buying the New York Pass, we had a 3 day pass with bus tours included and we seen all the main attractions plus a few we may not have considered.

WE ARRIVED IN THE CITY EARLY AND DECIDED TO CHECK WITH THE HOTEL TO SEE IF WE COULD POSSIBLY GET AN EARLY CHECK IN. THE YOUNG WOMAN THAT ANSWERED SAID SHE WOULD CHECK AND WHEN SHE CAME BACK TO THE PHONE SHE VERY KINDLY TOLD ME SHE HAD ARRANGED IT AND WE COULD COME AT ANY TIME. ONCE WE GOT THERE THE STAFF COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE ACCOMODATING.

Perfect Anniversary

Stayed one night for our anniversary. It is across the street from Central Park, ask for a "park view" room. The service, as usual for a Rtiz property was attentive and smooth. The only unfortunate thing was that the restaurant was not open as it was being updated...so it will only be better next time!!

We came to NY for my husband's fiftieth birthday to see a show and stay overnight. Ender, at the front desk, saw that it was my husband's birthday and upgraded our room. He could not have been nicer or more helpful. The room was fantastic; immaculate as always and very spacious with a wonderful view. We had drinks and a snack as well as breakfast in the lobby lounge; everything was outstanding. We will come back again soon! My husband and I stay at many Ritz-Carlton hotels, and this one ranks in our top five!

The Surrey is a first rate hotel. My suite, (which I did not request but was delighted with) could not have been nicer. Staff was very responsive. Concierge really helpful.
The rooftop penthouse bar was a pleasant surprise and a nice view. The only less than excellent experience was the overpriced and under whelming french restaurant "Boulud" connected to the hotel. I would not recommend it.

Wonderful staff! Professional, pleasant, helpful, and personable!!!! Love them all! Wish we had more time to enjoy the spa as it looked fabulous! Our room was nice with a wonderful bed! The carpet in our room was in need of a more thorough vacumning as along the edges of the bed and furniture were not particulary clean. Ate in the hotel restaurant one morning for breakfast and it seemed understaffed as we waited quite a while for service and food. We only saw one waitress working. I enjoy diet soda rather than coffee in the morning and my soda was flat. I would go back to the Surrey for the customer service!

The Waldorf has so much to offer in terms of class, tradition and antique beauty of its public spaces. It is also well situated to walk to times square, central park etc. The down side is the room situation. They are old and some things don't work, and not what you would expect from a 4.5 or 5 star hotel - also no views to speak of. On the plus side, we stayed in the towers and they have a great complimentary breakfast in the astoria lounge. We got a good price which made the stay worth it, but at 5 star prices the room situation would be a real downer.

The dining room boasts a bold, theatrical experience: a carving station where dishes are plated in the center of the action.
David Burke Kitchen's interior is inspired by the surrounding Soho neighborhood, blending the cool, industrial simplicity of an airy loft with the rustic warmth of a country barn.

My husband and I stayed at the James Hotel for 5 nights during Thanksgiving Week. Now, remember that Superstorm Sandy had ravaged NYC just 3 weeks prior, and the holidays are always stressful with extra travel and demands. But, the warm and friendly staff at the James made our stay delightful. Every request was met with a smile and prompt service. The fresh-baked scones at breakfast and cookies at night added a very homey welcome. The location is ideal for sightseeing and shopping in the Village, as well as getting around the rest of Manhattan. That said, the modern furnishings, especially the bedding, were just not comfortable for us. If you like a cool, urban escape, this is the place for you!

We stayed at The James for a night during a weekend trip to NYC. The hotel staff was very warm and welcoming. Our room was small (typical for NYC), but well laid out so you could move around without bumping into something or someone. The bathroom took up about 1/2 the room! The room was very clean ( the hotel provides turn down service). We ate at David Burke's Kitchen, which was very good (but again, typical NYC, very pricy). The hotel also has a small rooftop pool which was fun to hang out at in the afternoon. If you're planning on spending time in lower Manhattan, I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is great but I would say it caters mostly to business travel and is not overly luxurious. I was at the Chicago Ritz Carlton the following week which is much more luxurious. The lobby and bar are small and nondescript. The rooms are nice and large for New York. I like the location as it is close to multiple subway lines -- but if you are not comfortable taking the subway, it can be a long distance by cab to midtown.

Very pleased.Great view of harbor and Statue of Liberty. Telescope was nice but not really needed. Room decor nice but little too contemporary for my taste with comfortable bed. In room safe large enough for SRL camera. Area and hotel was quiet Duane-Reade drugstore across the street wiht adjacent deli-grocery Zaytuna that had great takeout meals. Would be good for anyone who wants to pack a lunch at Battery Park. Altho the subway stations were close by, we found Taxi to museums, etc very reasonable 20 dollars plus tip. Stayed on Club floor and enjoyed lounge, especially breakfast. Lox, bagels, berries, fruit, meat, cheese, oatmeal, rolls, great Expresso machine (my favorite part of stay), juices and soft drinks. Did not eat midday snack but evening hourderves nice. Do not drink but appeared cocktails as well as wine and champagne available. Computer with printer available for use in Club lounge. I will definitely make this my hotel of choice while visitng NYC. Did not use dining room or health club so cannot comment on these.

Really more of a bed and breakfast with only 12 rooms.
Accomodations were great, once I found it, as the hotel is not marked with an actual name.
Room and breakfast were great. A little pricey at $400+ a night, but that is to be expected off of Union Square I guess.

This hotel is designed for comfort! Trump has thought of every convenience and it shows. It truly feels like a home away from home. Your single remote controls the room lights, windows and TV - amazing. Bathrooms and rooms have great space. Location is a bit off the beaten path, but in a good way. Still close enough to walk to a lot of great neighborhoods. the lobby is full of great people watching. I love that this hotel is newer, and will definitely stay here on future visits.

We had a good time at this hotel. We stayed in our room most of the time while we were there and did not wander about the hotel much. The concierge directed us to Ray's for some good pizza. The room was clean, decently-sized and only a bit outdated.
