Good hotel, very well located: close to Central Park, Subway right next to the hotel, 2 blocks from great shopping at 5th avenue.
Had to pay USD3.75 for each luggage kept before check in and after check out until we went to the airport - it should be included in the price, in my opinion. Also, internet is not free and was charged twice - I complained and got all days for free. Staff, not very friendly, but OK when got good tips.
Would stay again for location and value.

I stayed on business and enjoyed this hotel quite a bit. Nice fitness room, nice common area on 2nd floor, friendly/helpful desk staff and concierge and huge room for the price. My only complaint, is the breakfast is pretty pricey for what it is....but that's NY for you.

La chambre est confortable. les murs sont mal isolés (on entend facilement les voisins : probleme réglé avec des bouchons). Le ptit dej est servi dans le hall (muffins exellents, café et thé).

The hotel has a great location, on a bustling street. The interior is chic and stylish. The room was surprisingly roomy and nicely decorated, it also has a FULLY stocked mini bar that includes an "intimacy kit"! The one negative thing was the phone was not working properly. In order to reach the front desk for anything, I had to use my cell phone

Needs some maintenance
- Annavon
- Apr 30, 2012
The staff was friendly and courteous. However, the maintenance of the room required some attention. The electrical outlet on the desk (part of the lamp). Did not work. I needed to request an extension cord to charge my computer. The drain pop-up in the bathroom did not work correctly and even after a maintenance engineer came to fix it, it still caused the drain to not drain properly. The wall paper in the bathroom was dirty and peeling in spots. The maid service left a lot to be desired. Did not always get clean cups and glasses and needed to request re-fill for the coffee for the in-room coffee maker (available on request).

The Moderne was in a great location in relation to food, Central Park, the theater district, sight seeing, and shopping. The room was well decorated and the 35 room hotel made for a quaint retreat from the hustle of the city. The downside was the close proximity to other rooms; the residents next to us had a small child that they let run and make noise in the early morning hours. The single elevator was challenging. The lounge was cool and I certainly appreciated the coffee, tea, and coffee cake in the morning. I will certainly stay at The Moderne again!

The location of this hotel is excellent, just one block away from time square. However, the room is small and its not very comfortable. We would choose room comfort rather than location.

Only stayed for 4 nights and service and staff were nice and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable and the best part is that the location of the hotel
Is only a few minutes away from many of the major areas in new York. Amenities seemed tO be lacking. The hotel was under construction outside and in while I was there so inside of my floor wasn't too flattering to look at, the room was nice but then I would wake up to workers on a lift right outside my window.

This hotel would certainly top the list when there are discounted rates available. Everything I expected from the hotel was up to standard and at a discounted rate (150/night avg), you really can't expect much more. Important to note that internet comes at a 10 dollar fee per day and there was one instance where the maid on a particular day was quite pushy about servicing our room even though we were still getting ready. After we mentioned for her to come back at a certain time (she acknowledged), she knocked on the door 20 minutes early and insisted she clean the room now as she was working the floor. We let her in while we were still getting ready as we didn't want to be remembered for being difficult, but it was quite impolite of her to barge in like she did.

I was thrilled with the deal on this hotel a week before Christmas. Not a far walk to Times Sqaure, room was spacious with a kitchen area, sofa and lots of space. The only problem was the heat made a loud noise, but we weren't in the room long enough to care. Staff was friendly with valet and honored our request for a room with a great view for my girlfriend's birthday!! Will def stay there again!!

The level of noise in the room

Because the air conditioning system has (I suppose) an outside inlet, the room was disturbed by the traffic loudness.
Also, free internet access for hotel's clients could be something to be considered in the future.

All Ws are really stylish and sleek and I love the Bliss products. For that alone I would stay at the W!
This one on Lexington is much less claustrophobic than the Times Square one, and still walkable to the theatre district.
We also enjoyed a yummy brunch in the Heartbeat restaurant in the hotel.
The cleanliness is because of mildew in the shower tiles and a weird stench from the bathroom.

Small room but very clean
-
Martha Pugeda

First the not-so-bad: When I came in, the lobby was posh but it was very dimly lit. I am not a fan of dark places. The room that I have stayed in was very small, especially the bathroom. Reminded me of the bathrooms in B&Bs in Europe.
The ugly: The room that I stayed in was facing Madison Ave. I could hear the street noise even at wee hours of the night.
The beautiful: Despite all of the things that I mentioned above, I loved my stay here. The front desk was very helpful, my room looked amazing, not to mention extremely clean. I was just a bit curious why there is no door hanger that says "do not disturb" in the rooms. Oh and they don't have room service, but it's okay cause that means more time to go outside and explore the food offerings of NYC!

Great MidTown location with quiet, comfortable room. Bathroom sink looks cool, but is near impossible to use (particularly for my husband who was trying to shave). Overall, nice place to crash while exploring the city. Heads up: they add a $1 donation to a charity for each night of your stay, which will be charged unless you ask for it to be removed.

The Amsterdam is an older hotel in the theatre district, clean, reasonable price, subject to the typical annoyances of rennovation and age. We had two rooms. The first was to be handicapped accessible. The hotel provided a wheelchair for the entire stay which was very helpful. It provided a walk in shower but not a bath bench as promised making bathing difficult. The second traditional room had a water leak, one of several in the hotel during our stay. The hotel did arrange for a new room. The phone connection in the new room never worked. Air conditioner was not necessary during our visit; not sure how functional the older window unit would be in the handicapped room. Despite the bumps, it was a good place to sleep and I would consider the Amsterdam on my next visit to New York.

This was the first time I was visiting NYC and staying at a hotel rather than a friend's place. I was concerned about what I would get for the price I paid but I was not disappointed. The hotel is on the older side but definitely has a raw NYC feel to it that makes it work. The staff is extremely kind and helpful and the room was great-spacious and clean. The location couldn't get any better. I went with my sister and we've decided to make an annual trip of it and stay at Wellington every time!!

I had a fabulous experience here, from beginning to end ...stayed 5 days, my room was always spotless. Roomy enough, with drawers and convenient closet - it was very chic, hip, and futuristic, while being completely serviceable. The staff couldn't have been more professional and accessible. Location is unbeatable - literally steps to Chelsea Market and the Highline ... found a charming bistro/cafe "Le Graninne Cafe" up 9th Street, and across the street heavenly cupcake's at "Billy's". I WILL be back!

It will remind you much of the Gansevoort. Contemporary, trendy, stylish. The rooms were very comfortable. The Lobby/Marble Room area is fantastic. PhD has a great view of the city, but very pricey drinks with an uninspiring dj that caters to the decadent, meatpacking type. Great hotel, but avoid the rooftop.

I loved the location, amenities, and the hotel overall was great. I did not have time to explore the restaurant or rooftop bar. I did however feel the staff was stuffy and indifferent. I generally stay at leading hotels of the world properties and maybe my standards are a bit higher. But come on, i don't travel with my jewelry and was dressed to fly into Newark not on a private jet. So maybe i have to flash around my designer duds and layer on my mikimotos to stay there again to be treated better? I dont think I should have to. I took off a whole star for the front desk and how unfriendly the y were. When i'm smiling and they are not, it's generally not a good sign. :)
