The room was one of the largest I've ever had in NYC, and well furnished. The hotel is well-located, near the subway, Lincoln Center and the theaters, very clean, and the staff was attentive and helpful. My only complaint was that the room was never as warm as I wanted, and nothing I did made it any warmer.

I chose this hotel mainly because of the price. I came to visit friends in the city but wanted a hotel so that I could come and go as I please and so that I could have a place to crash. That's what the Mayfair is. It is not luxurious, aesthetically pleasing, or roomy, but it gets the job done. The lone elevator is remarkably small. My room was basically big enough for the bed, and that's it. It didn't feel dirty but didn't feel terribly clean either. The carpet was older. The window faced a wall, so there was no view (unless you consider a brick wall to be a view). The heat and a/c worked well and the wall-mounted flat screen TV was nice. My bed had a long black hair between the sheets and what bothered me is that I know that the throw pillows have to be placed on the floor while the bed is being made-- those same pillows are lying against the pillows you sleep on. Kinda gross. The bathroom was tiny and when I ran the water in the sink, water leaked out from the floor and made a puddle. The shower was SMALL. If you are overweight, this hotel is not for you! I am a tall and in-shape male, and I had a problem in the shower, especially when washing my legs. The water pressure and temperature were good. There was an extra movable mirror on the wall that made shaving easy. The staff was pretty friendly, although one of the younger guys at the front desk acted like he didn't know what he was doing when he checked me in. The location was excellent- right by Broadway (the hotel is directly beside the Book of Mormon theater), HK, Time's Square, etc. I would stay here again simply for the convenience and the price. It's small and has NO frills but it gets the job done. ALSO- there is a $12 gas surcharge that you have to pay upon checkout. I'm guessing it's for the heat in the winter.

Third time to stay at this hotel. Good location, friendly staff. My only complaint was temperature regulation. Heat is controlled by main boiler system not individual room so it is either on (sweltering) or off (freezing).

Well, you can't get a better location than this one! Right across the street from Central Park. The staff was very friendly and were very helpful throughout our 2 day stay. As for the room itself, it was very nice, however the decor is ever so slightly dated. The bathroom could use an upgrade, however everything works fine and the bath products are super! I would have given 4 or 5 stars for cleanliness, however the maid missed a piece of bread near the window left by the previous guests, so I can only give it a 3. Overall, a great experience! Not totally unreasonable price considering the location.

We stay In NYC all the time this hotel has great staff of people with excellent service. Albeit rooms are a bit small they are well appointed and the kitchenette made it very handy. Location close to my office and and theater district & resturants is very good however, area right around hotel is a bit on the rough side for single women (not the case for us). Would stay here again in a heartbeat....price was very copettitive for NYC and breakfast was a nice bonus

Hotel Metro was clean and upscale...and the location was excellent - walking distance to great shopping, Penn Station, Times Square, and more. The room was small but perfect for two people whose main goal was to enjoy the city as much as possible. The rooftop lounge area has a perfect view of the Empire State building, and was a lovely place to go to see the falling of the first snow of the season!

Excellent checking in and Concierge staff. Very helpful. Room clean and quiet with good views. The bed was excellent. Only minor matter the desk lamp did not work. I called housekeeping about the problem. They took the lamp out buit it was never replaced. I did not call back but the desk area dark. Excellent location and value for new York City seemed very good. Thank you for asking about the hotel. Ralph S.

Perfect if all you want is a place to sleep. We appreciated the affordability and the central location. If you are looking for extras, this isn't the place for you. If you want a cheap, clean place to stay while you explore the city, it's great. We did have a long line to wait in for our Friday night check in but the folks working were very nice. I plan to go back.

We recently stayed at The Belvedere and had a wonderful trip. There were only a couple of items I wished were a little bit better - the bathroom was quite small considering there were 4 of us staying in one room, and though the temperature outside was less than 30 degrees, and we even put the air conditioner on, the room was consistently hot. The staff was very friendly though, the location was great, the beds were comfortable, and the room was extremely clean. I would stay there again.

Stayed here for a mother-daughter theater weekend. We paid $160/night including taxes in low season (Jan) - a bargain for the quality. Large room for NYC, with 2 double beds (as requested), nice linens, a desk, small foyer with fridge and microwave. Bathroom a bit small, I guess, but room itself large. Quiet. Great location for Broadway shows, just west of Times Sq on a quiet street with lots of reasonable restaurants nearby. Lobby nothing special, staff were fine though we didn't use them much. Will definitely come again!

The hotel was in a great location to walk to Times Square, the Broadway theaters and Rockefeller Plaza. The continental breakfast was great in its quality and variety of options. Great value for such a good Midtown location. The bathroom was really small, but that's to be expected for most NYC hotels. I'd definitely stay here again if I came back to see more Broadway shows.

Classic hotel. Takes you back to a bygone era of New York Hotels. The staff was tremendous and the hotel was quiet outside of our room. Don't recommend parking a car ($100 for 2 nights). Breakfast at the hotel was also $50 per person which was a surprise for us). The next day we went to a diner right by the hotel. The rooms were clean and a little outdated but we didn't mind. It is not a modern hotel. The lobby is amazing. We used the gym for free. Spa treatments were aobut $200 for a 50 minute treatment and you were not allowed to enter the spa even for a fee. You had to have a service booked. Overall a great experience. We would certainly return.

The Good, The Bad, and the Lemon+Sage
-
Gina B.
- Jan 1, 2012
When you first walk into the W in Times Square, your immediate reaction is "I booked the right hotel." The first floor is classy and modern and just plain beautiful. Then you take the elevator up to the 7th floor which serves as not only the check-in/concierge/whatever/whenever area, but also a bar and lounge. Once again- very, very cool.
My room was ready for me and my three traveling cohorts at 9am even though check-in was at noon, which was awesome. We didn't have to wait around for a single second. Wifi at the W is not free unless you sign up for a starwood membership thing- which I did. However, the internet is very slow and we had to continuously keep logging into it, which became very annoying.
Now- here is where things get a little ugly. The woman who checked us in told us we were in a spectacular room on the 56th floor (the top floor is the 57th) and blah blah blah. This really hyped us all up because everything about the hotel so far was amazing, I mean, what could go wrong? Then we went up to our hotel room. Lo and behold, a tiny two-bed box. I mean, it was literally shocking. There was hardly any room for the extra bed we needed (which has a $35 per night fee that we managed to get waived), which still only left us with three beds. So, I slept on the "couch"/"lounge chair" that was by the window. The "couch"/"lounge chair" was dirty and visibly worn out and very uncomfortable. Other than that, I did have a fantastic view. There is no doubt about that. The view was ahhhhhmazing. Plus, another hotel was facing us and people watching was fun. However, if we didn't always have the blinds open, the room would have felt even smaller than it already was. We were literally climbing on top of each other just to give each other space. Yikes. And there was a limited amount of hangers in the closet and only one drawer. Uhm?
Another problem I had was the bathroom. The wall of the bathroom that faced the rest of the room was like...frosted glass. So you could see the fleshy outline of whatever someone was doing in there. It was very awkward. I really liked the complementary Bliss products. It was hard getting used to the Lemon+Sage scent of everything, but I grew to like it.
Overall, I really liked the W and I would stay there again. The staff was freaking awesome, the location was fantastic, and I would go back just to get more Bliss Lemon+Sage soap. I just don't understand why they would knowingly stick 4 people in a tiny two-bed box and then charge them extra for the comfort they already more than paid for. If you're planning on staying at the W with more than 3 people, then I suggest either booking more rooms or paying out of your mind for a legitimately swanky room.

Location of hotel was very nice, walking distance to many attractions. Hotel rooms were somewhat small, but accomodating. Some tv stations didn't work very good, and toilet handle stuck, but just needed minor attention. Breakfast was good, don't wait until the last minute, it's very busy. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Location was excellent! We could walk to most of the things we wanted to see. I had asked for a quiet room with two double beds and that's what we got..........plus a nice NY view from the windows. Beds were very comfortable. Both room and bathroom were nice sized. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will go there again when in NY.

I don't have enough superlatives for this hotel. The only thing lacking was a view, as my room faced an alley. However, nobody goes to New York City to spend time looking out a window.
The location is insanely convenient, as it sits right behind the Winter Garden Theatre.
Big room. Comfortable bed. Exceptionally friendly staff!
I would suggest this hotel in a heartbeat!

For NYC standard, this room size is big enough for 2 people even with a kin size bed. I think a double bed room is more spacious. The room was available earlier than we expected and a late check-out was granted with no extra charge. Lobby staff are very kind and always has a smile in their face. Vend-machines are a good option for late night needs however a minibar or minirefrigerator in the room would be great (it wasn´t availabe in our room). The safe got an error late at night when we needed to get some stuffs out of it and an engineer came to our room in less than 10 minutes to fix it. Great service.Location is awesome:subway path from 42nd street and a lateral inside path to Port Authority are very helpful in windy and cold days. I would definetely stay again and recommend this hotel.

The hotel itself is nice enough for the purpose it served. Sleep and shower. We were not in the room otherwise. We were on the 6th floor facing the Port Authority which was very loud at night/all night...Would not recommend facing the Port Authority, other than that, for the money, was very satisfied. Staff very very friendly which is rare in New York. First visit and wasn't impressed with hospitality.

The hotel is perfectly located on 37th st. between 5th and 6th ave.
reception was quick, efficient and friendly. lobby was elegant, but not extravagant (i don't like the hotels which emphasize the lobby but have poorly built rooms, so I liked this hotel).
The room was very small but sufficient. TV, Internet, IPOD docking - all where cool.
View was non-existing, as 3 meters outside my window (I was on th floor) was another office building, so don't count on view from the room.
Shower was nice, clean and towels was soft and clean.
The roof-top bar was really nice with excellent view of the Empire state building. really nice at a cold winter night.
The restaurant was very disappointing. serves were very small so I had to look for real food elsewhere.
Overall, if your aim is to have a place to put your head after a day's work or trip, this is a very good place to be, just don't count on the restaurant and eat somewhere else.
