Room size was nice and comfortable, location awesome - hotel staff friendly and helpful. The noise from the street was almost unbearable. I would not stay there again with any kind of street side room. I faced 77th, not Broadway - and there was noise off and on all night long. If you sleep well with all kinds of city sounds - go for it - otherwise I would ask for another area of the hotel, or stay somewhere else.

Great pre-wedding stay
-
Joe11
- Dec 30, 2012
I stayed at the Lucerne for 3 nights before my wedding. The room was spacious, comfortable, well-designed and just what I needed. The location was excellent. Free drinks for guests in the lobby one afternoon was a nice touch. No additional lounges or separate bar from the adjoining public restaurant, but that didn't really matter. One major problem which needs urgent action by the management was my plastic card room key was turned off in error by the hotel when I popped out to get ice from the machine so I was stranded outside the room an hour before my wedding. The reception staff refused to let me back in the room without ID, which was of course locked in the room, even though they acknowledged it was the hotel's mistake. I would have missed my wedding had I not miraculously been able to get hold of my passport. Staff were unsympathetic and hostile. An unacceptable blot on an otherwise excellent hotel, needing urgent attention by the management/owner .

Lovely, clean, great location. Staff was attentive. Room was average size, very clean, and recently renovated. Our trip was a getaway weekend for two middle-aged businesswomen and our teen-age daughters. Wonderful location, close to Central Park. Very safe, even late at night. Subway is around the corner. Restaurant next to hotel was good, but overpriced. Definitely would stay at the Lucerne again.

Might be my new go-to hotel in NYC
-

The rooms are quiet, comfortable, and stylish-- and a good size for New York City hotels. The beds were excellent-- very firm with great linens. The hotel is across the street from Lincoln Center and its subway station stop. Staff was friendly and courteous throughout the stay. For the price, it's a great value for NYC. I've stayed in comparably priced hotels in the city that were half the size, noisy, and/or less conveniently located. Definitely would recommend and stay again.

Great locale and clean small rooms
-
Amy business traveler
- Dec 2, 2012
Lovely hotel smack on Broadway in the heart of Upper West side at 94th. Polite staff, though I asked for a room with a bathtub, and they said yes, then when I walked into my room it was shower only. Then I called and they apoligized and moved me to a room with a bath. I was surprised thtat they have not even a tiny exercise room - I always like to run for 30 minutes on a treadmill when I'm on business travel. BUT room was perfeclty fine, clean, it's a great location, so if you just need a clean safe pleasant place to stay while you explore NYC, this would be a great fit.

I had a perfectly fine stay at the Hotel Newton. The room was a standard NY hotel room, small, but functional; came with a coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave. Room was clean and quiet. As for location, 94th and Broadway is pretty central to get to the Upper West Side and Midtown easily. The Manhattan Diner is right next door for a good nosh. A few things were a bit strange at the hotel: the phone in the room did not work, and even though I reported it, it was never fixed. The wireless access was strange also. I never got the hotel's paid wireless internet access, but ended up using a free access point, so all was good.

All In All, A Good Choice

I GO PLACES
- Dec 9, 2012
I'm originally from NYC, so I don't need to be "in the heart of" the tourist attractions. This hotel is located in a "real neighborhood," and from that vantage point, it's interesting even for tourists, especially since the subway and buses are right there. I even saw a stop for the NYC tour bus a block away.
The lobby is nothing to write home about, but who cares? The hallways are long and narrow and noisy. The doors slam closed. The elevators are very slow. A tad off-putting also was walking down the hall and seeing a guest in her nightgown sitting on the floor talking on her cell phone! Still, the rooms are large by NYC standards, and all in all, it can feel above average when the price is right.

This old hotel has been nicely renovated and updated. Aging double-glazed windows were hard to move and sticky. Climate control within the room was difficult, so room remained overly warm. Corridors were overheated. One elevator failed during our stay. Lobby was lively with the busy restaurant. Breakfast room was spacious, nicely furnished and quiet.

The Beacon is a great find. We've stayed there numerous times before and were happy to see that it had been renovated since our last stay. It couldn't have been better. The staff was very helpful and very friendly. It's close to the subway, has a Fairway grocery store directly across the street to make use of the in-room kitchenette, and only blocks from Central Park. We will definitely stay at the Beacon during our next trip to NYC.

The location is spectacular. The room was very very disappointing. It was extremely hot and we had to run the air conditioner (window model, very noisey) all night to even get the room to somewhat normal temperature. The only reason the value of the room is somewhat decent is solely due to the spectacular location. Two blocks to Broadway one block to Central Park, great! Lots of good spots to eat along Columbia and Broadway.

Hotel has very convenient location, just couple steps from Central Park in Manhattan and subway station. Very reasonable price. That's nice.
It's unusual for us not to have opened doors and own keys. It's more like small apartments/rooms for rent then a hotel. Every time you reach hotel you need to call check in to open main entry door..
it was very hot in a room (late march). Once you try to switch on A/C to make air cooler it becomes very noisy from A/C itself and additional noise from Central Heating water system that's annoing during night time.
Bathroom was also inconvenient.. Room 3A didn't have even hooks to hang up clothes.

It's in a great location, just outside the subway on 103rd st. So it take about 10-15 mins to get in to soho or somewhere central. The room was clean but the amenties were basic. The bathroom was small.
It is a good hotel and I would recommend it based on the value price and great location. But I would make you aware not to expect much more than a private style hostel. Our room was small and had just what was needed.
The main problem was that the pipes in the building were very noisy. So when the rooms near us took a shower we could hear the water pipes really loudly. Was only a problem when they had a shower at 6am one morning.
Other than that it did the job.

Best location ever!

The location was PERFECT: 2 blocks away from two different subway lines; spitting distance from the Museum of Natural History and Central Park; blocks from Zabars and H & H Bagel... I couldn't have been more enchanted. The hotel was so different than the big chain hotels that we have in Dallas. It was in a charming neighborhood, with an old-fashioned lobby, worn tile mosaic floors, a narrow twisty staircase and the tiniest gem of a room. No long, straight hallways with a million doors on each side: everything was set at angles and around corners. What character! My, our room was small! But my daughter and I thought it was cute (we're not big people, and we didn't come to NY to stay in the room anyway!). It was unlike anything I've seen in Big D--but that's why we came to New York! Our room and bathroom were tiny, tiny, tiny. But that was the only drawback. Loved it, and I will try to get back there the next time I go to NYC.

Great Hotel. large rooms, excellent service, close to the park

We took our kids to NYC for the first time in March of 2012. The Milburn was a pleasant surprise. We booked a Queen suite which was very large and roomy. It consisted of a bedroom with full bath, a separate living room with a kitchenette, small dining table and a sleeper sofa. The sleeper sofa would have been uncomfortable for adults but was great for two light kids. Both rooms have a good size flat screen TV. The room was quiet and the staff were very helpful. parking was easy at the Avis lot around the corner ($27 per night at the time). The location is great if you like the park. With being just a block from Columbus and Amsterdam, finding good eats was not a problem.
Description
This is a hotel for people whose most important consideration is a low price. The rooms
are small, but so are our prices, which are the lowest of decent hotels in this city. We have 120
rooms that are clean and comfortable. This is a residential neighborhood just above mid-town. It is quiet, so you will get a good night's sleep away from midtown traffic. We are five minutes from midtown, once you step into a cab or the subway. You can get a cab in less than a minute, and the subway is three blocks away, (a three minute walk). Three bus lines are also nearby. We give you maps of the city subway and bus lines. The Museum of Natural History is four blocks away on our same street, Lincoln Center is just below us, and you can walk to
the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Empire State Building is 15 minutes by subway and the Statue of Liberty, by ferry boat, is about 25 minutes.

First we were assinged a room that was really small and a little bit dirty. But we had "Luck" that the shower was not working and they couldn't fix it so we were moved to another room which was bigger and cleaner.
It is ok if you will be out of the hotel for most of the time because the installations are clean and it is secure. But it does need some reworks, also the bed was not that good so i couldn't sleep well.
$120

Description
The Morningside Inn is a newly renovated hotel in the heart of New York City's vibrant Upper Westside. It is housed in a 6-story, elevator pre-war building with the old world charm of that era. All rooms are brand new and have been decorated in a style of comfortable elegance.
It is conveniently located near all public transportation along Broadway and just a short ride to the theatre district, Times Square and New York's many other attractions.
It is just a short walk from Morningside Inn to Columbia University and many other institutions of higher learning. The neighborhood has an unmistakable academic/student flavor with many specialty boutiques, informal cafes, coffee houses and restaurants.

My husband and I (middle-aged) were disappointed with the condition of the hotel. Beds were clean and comfortble. Bathroom had broken floor tiles and miserable shower. Only soap was provided (no shampoo). No hand towels. Noise was a big problem -- wall are paperthin. The housekeeping people were very loud in the mornings (10:00 am) with lots of laughing and talking at what seemed right outside our door. (We were happy to hear laughing an pleasant conversation, however.) Our next door neighbors could be heard conversing and cavorting at 4:30 am. Pounded on the wall for them to shut-up. Saw a cockroach in our bedroom. Air conditioner was only slightly better than nothing. We realize that NYC is very expensive but for the price, we would have hoped to have gotten a room with good facilities despite not having any extras like an internet connection. Location was good. Easy access to subway and busses. Good restraunts/bakeries in the area. Easy walking to Central Park. Have to say that the hotel staff were very nice.
