What travelers to Times Square are saying

My hubby and I were in NYC for a long weekend, just to getaway. We did a lot of shopping on Times Square and enjoyed the street artist that sell their merchandise in the evening hours. We had an amazing/romantic steak dinner at the Bond 45 Restaurant, even the cheesecake was delicious! We visited the new Freedom tower at ground zero and took the Staten Island ferry to enjoy the view of the Statue of Liberty. If you have time to wander... Greenwich Village or St. Mark's areas have some fun little stores. Greenwich village streets don't follow the traditional grid of the city which can make exploring more fun. NYC people can be very helpful... several stopped to assist us once they saw we were reading a Subway map and got us pointed in the right direction. Note: Uptown and Downtown trains don't always run from the same subway station! Coney Island is always fun... we took a day trip down to the beach and enjoyed people watching on the boardwalk area. Lots of games, roller coasters and food! We'll certainly be booking another trip to NYC... there is something very addictive about the energy and the people!

We came to NY to see a couple of Broadway shows, the Phantom of The Opera and Les Miserables. I had seen both shows performed by the Broadway touring casts in my home town, but to see them on Broadway was an item on my bucket list. I was not disappointed! Also went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, Intrepid Air & Sea Museum, New York Natural History Museum, the Cathedral of St John the Divine-amazing by the way. We took several bus tours on the hop on hop off buses, one of the best ways to get around! We took a Landmark boat trip and saw the Statue of Liberty and lots of other sites. I could live in New York and not be able to see everything! We did purchase a Metro card and used the subway which was super easy form me as I am originally from London and understand about the different lines, although I felt a subway map would have helped, we were able to download an app but it still wasn't as helpful as it could have been.

My husband and I loved our trip to New York! Being history buffs, we particularly enjoyed the tenement tour in East Village followed by lunch at Katz Deli (crazy busy, but lines moved fast and food was worth the wait). The decision to take a hop-on, hop-off Gray Line tour was a good one because we were able to see everything that we wanted to in a limited amount of time. Also, the tour guides provided much insight into NY history. We had not been to Harlem before and enjoyed seeing the Apollo Theater and Malcolm X Center as well as Bill Clinton's office. Perhaps the highlight of our trip was the performance of Jersey Boys. We had seen a tour performance in Charlotte which we enjoyed, but it didn't compare to the production in NY. Would recommend Jersey Boys to any Four Seasons' fans! Thanks to great weather and seeing Robin Roberts at ABC, we had a wonderful New York visit!

Feel the beat of Manhattan’s heart in Times Square

Times Square is famed for its digital billboards, New Year's Eve celebrations, grand Broadway theaters and dazzling neon lights. Pulsing crowds make their way through the square 24 hours a day in the city that never sleeps, walking to catch a famed musical, conduct business in the financial capital, or eat along Restaurant Row where global establishments stand side by side. Ranked as one of the world's top visitor attractions, Times Square hosts dozens of famous sites, historic buildings, movie and television shoots, and nearby hotels and amenities of every stripe. The bustling heart of Manhattan, New York, is a maze for different tastes and budgets to investigate.

Things to see in Times Square

The most famous intersection in the world is the meeting place for Broadway, Seventh Avenue and West 42nd through West 47th streets. Top attractions include entertainment destinations like Radio City Music Hall, “The Great White Way” and the Ed Sullivan Theater, home of David Letterman's and Stephen Colbert's TV shows. Here are some of the Square's highlights…

The Hard Rock Cafe

Diners can rock their senses with food, drinks and memorabilia from great rock-and-roll legends like Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, Nirvana and The Beatles. Modern artists are also represented in this 708-seat restaurant, while the 1,800-square-foot Rock Shop is the place to pick up souvenirs, and private events can be booked for the outdoor dining space above the building's marquee.

New York City stores in Times Square include M&Ms World at 48th Street—a chocolate-lover's dream world—and Toys R Us at 45th Street, where Lego constructions of Tyrannosaurus Rex and other Jurassic Park dinosaurs delight visitors. The Disney Store provides kids with trademark Disney magic, including interactive magic mirrors and movie clips of classic animated films.

New York Public Library

Located just east of Times Square on 42nd Street, the NYC library boasts the famous lion statues Patience and Fortitude at the entrance to the ornate Beaux-Arts building. Bryant Park, which abuts the rear of the library, offers a French carousel, art shows and festivals throughout the year, as well as the HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival.

The world's most famous theater district, Broadway's 40 venues with over 500 seats each serve as a barometer of theatrical success. New York visitors can save money by getting tickets from individual theater box offices, or at the Visitors Center in Times Square.

Climate information and best time to visit NYC

Temperatures in New York City are seasonal, but with each variation comes fresh appeal. In the fall, comfortable temperatures and holiday decorations transform Times Square into a wonderland. Spring is magnificent with fashion shows, outdoor markets, open-air dining and signature events. Summers are hot, when street festivals and exciting nightlife are key attractions. Even the coldest months of winter offer advantages for travelers, because hotel rates drop and crowds diminish slightly.
