Overall Excellent Experience

Jport
- Mar 17, 2012
This is by far my best experience at an NYC hotel. The location was excelent. The food was good. The room was very clean. My only complaint was we were on the second floor and were able to hear the street noise at night. Luckily we turned on the window A/C and drowned it out.

Everything you want in a hotel for a true NYC experience. Great location, clean, historic, and not too expensive. Plenty of reasonably price restaurants nearby and so is the subway. One con however, the sounds of the street do come through to the room.

Location and staff are good; everything else was bad

The two men working the front desk were friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect. The room, however, was not good. It was not well cleaned. I had to put sheets on the bed myself. The hallway was smelly. In our two room suite, one of the rooms had no working lights. The TV didn't work. The internet didn't work. The mini-fridge had not been cleaned at all. The shower had mold in it. The closet was filled with laundry bags of dirty sheets. The only upsides - we had plenty of clean pillows and blankets, and the air conditioner worked well.

Location, price, and...refrigeration

Julie Kaffe
- Jun 27, 2012
I like these accommodations. Simple enough, but since you are not me, it's probably important that I add a few qualifiers. I lived in New York for five years, I went to NYU, and I like to have a means to refrigerate my purchases from the Union Square Greenmarket. If you, like me, want to stay somewhere that is reasonably priced in this area and don't mind a place that is more like your average old, un-renovated NY apartment than the Ritz-Carlton, this is your place. (Honestly, I could care less about the pillow-top mattresses, faux-riche furnishings, and pseudo-luxuries of those sorts of hotels.) The Village Apartments is clean and efficient (and a bit endearingly shabby), and the location is perfect. I had a cute little refrigerator in which to deposit my greenmarket snap peas and in which my husband could chill beer. All of which will mean I will happily stay there again. But, as the husband said, the place might be a bit of a shock if you are more accustomed to staying in the average hotel.

The dining room boasts a bold, theatrical experience: a carving station where dishes are plated in the center of the action.
David Burke Kitchen's interior is inspired by the surrounding Soho neighborhood, blending the cool, industrial simplicity of an airy loft with the rustic warmth of a country barn.

My husband and I stayed at the James Hotel for 5 nights during Thanksgiving Week. Now, remember that Superstorm Sandy had ravaged NYC just 3 weeks prior, and the holidays are always stressful with extra travel and demands. But, the warm and friendly staff at the James made our stay delightful. Every request was met with a smile and prompt service. The fresh-baked scones at breakfast and cookies at night added a very homey welcome. The location is ideal for sightseeing and shopping in the Village, as well as getting around the rest of Manhattan. That said, the modern furnishings, especially the bedding, were just not comfortable for us. If you like a cool, urban escape, this is the place for you!

We stayed at The James for a night during a weekend trip to NYC. The hotel staff was very warm and welcoming. Our room was small (typical for NYC), but well laid out so you could move around without bumping into something or someone. The bathroom took up about 1/2 the room! The room was very clean ( the hotel provides turn down service). We ate at David Burke's Kitchen, which was very good (but again, typical NYC, very pricy). The hotel also has a small rooftop pool which was fun to hang out at in the afternoon. If you're planning on spending time in lower Manhattan, I would recommend this hotel.

Every bit as good as I had heard

I've been trying to book at this hotel for several years, but it's always been sold out. This time I went just before Christmas week, and I got lucky and got a great room on the third floor facing the front. Even though 14th Street is busy, and I'm a light sleeper, the room was always totally quiet. Bed was great, shower hot and strong, plenty of good soaps and shampoos. Not the Waldorf, but very comfortable. Rooms all decorated in original movie posters, pretty cool. Staff was always friendly and helpful, even late at night, and daytime staff gave me lots of information on local restaurants, bars, even a great list of places to go in Williamsburg. They even got me tickets to Radio City Christmas show, which was a blast! No hot breakfast, but pretty much anything you could want other than eggs (cheese, homemade bread, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, good strong coffee), and all included in reasonable nightly rate. Location amazing, what more could you want? Loved seeing the High Line and Chelsea Market, which were right down the street (so was the Apple flagship store). Glad I finally stayed there, and I'll be staying there again.

Outgoing and friendly staff greeted us. The rooms and decor are keyed to old movie stars and movies. Tasteful appointments in the small rooms. We really liked the bath sheet towels but there were no towel bars. Breakfast area though small was quite pleasant. We were visiting Brooklyn, Astor Place and Lincoln Center and the subway entrance was conveniently nearby.

The Mondrian Soho was excellent. One of the things that makes traveling difficult is the lag time between arriving somewhere and getting service. That didn't happen here, it felt like I was in my room and relaxing five minutes after walking in the door at midnight, which was a wonderful feeling.
The concierge service was great, the restaurant recommendation was right on, and the room was perfect for me. I was able to plug in and charge all my gadgets and work in the room, which was also a plus.
I will definitely be back.

This is a small well modernised hotel in an interesting part of Manhattan.
The staff were very helpful and pleasant, the room was very clean, typically New York small but the bathroon was well designed to fit the space.
No bar or lounge but next door is Parigot, a bistro style French eatery with a small bar and a good attitude.

Hotel was perfect for my needs; a place to sleep and shower.
It was very clean, comfortable (even though room was small-- hostile-like, which one knows prior to stay), cozy, affordable. Staff was friendly. Location was fine. Building is beautiful. Other guests seemed to be cool, relaxed travelers like myself.
I didn't have time to enjoy the hotel bar though it looked great.
Would definitely rebook at the Jane.

- Oct 28, 2012
The Jane is my go-to hotel went I fly into NY for business. I stay in the Captain's Cabin. It's only 50 square feet, but for me, it's all I need, considering how little time I spend in my hotel room on business trips. The complimentary bottle of red wine on the window ledge doesn't hurt either.
The location is both good and bad. Good because it's tucked away on quiet Jane Street in Chelsea, right off the West Side Highway and down the street from some great bars and restaurants on gritty cobblestone streets. Bad because it's a good 10 minute walk from the L train subway stop and taxis can be hard to grab. Since I like walking, I don't mind it.

A little more expensive, but worth every penny

This hotel is designed for comfort! Trump has thought of every convenience and it shows. It truly feels like a home away from home. Your single remote controls the room lights, windows and TV - amazing. Bathrooms and rooms have great space. Location is a bit off the beaten path, but in a good way. Still close enough to walk to a lot of great neighborhoods. the lobby is full of great people watching. I love that this hotel is newer, and will definitely stay here on future visits.

Orbitz failed to transfer my booking to Trump Soho so they had no idea we were arriving. Fortunately I had the email confirmation from Orbitz and Trump Hotel honored the rate. Thumbs down Orbitz.
