Small room but very clean
-
Martha Pugeda
- May 15, 2012
First the not-so-bad: When I came in, the lobby was posh but it was very dimly lit. I am not a fan of dark places. The room that I have stayed in was very small, especially the bathroom. Reminded me of the bathrooms in B&Bs in Europe.
The ugly: The room that I stayed in was facing Madison Ave. I could hear the street noise even at wee hours of the night.
The beautiful: Despite all of the things that I mentioned above, I loved my stay here. The front desk was very helpful, my room looked amazing, not to mention extremely clean. I was just a bit curious why there is no door hanger that says "do not disturb" in the rooms. Oh and they don't have room service, but it's okay cause that means more time to go outside and explore the food offerings of NYC!

Great MidTown location with quiet, comfortable room. Bathroom sink looks cool, but is near impossible to use (particularly for my husband who was trying to shave). Overall, nice place to crash while exploring the city. Heads up: they add a $1 donation to a charity for each night of your stay, which will be charged unless you ask for it to be removed.

Impressive Hotel with good location, very nice rooms.
I would install at least one more ceiling light ,because
depends on weather room sometimes got a bit of light deficit.
Other thing : lack of communication or snappiness of the stuff.
First day, I reported to the front desk somebody's else socks in the corner on the floor behind the chair.
After maid's visit socks were still there...
Other than that above average.

Travelers looking for a convenient nightspot can try the unique lounge under the hotel. I come from Cyprus which is one of the best countries in the Hotel Industry (especially my city Limassol) and i am working for one of them which is Columbia Hotels & Resorts. If i compare the hotel is average. If i do not i can say it is very beautifull boutique hotel which is very clean and that is all i want when i travel abroad.
The fact that there is no breakfast, there is a complementary coffee and tea at 10th floor which closes at 10pm and that you pay 10 dollars for internet per devise are really but charactriristics.
In our hotel we pay a lot of money every year to provide free internet to all guests. Having to pay so much was really frustrating.
For what i wanted from a hotel (Beauty & cleanliness) was perfect

Much better than expected
-
Rambling Rose
- May 23, 2012
My midwestern friend was very doubtful when I told her we would be sharing a bathroom but the cleanliness and convenience of Hotel 17 won her over. Luckily our comfortable room was right across from the bathroom so we could easily access its availability and yet hallway noises were not a problem. I couldn't have been more pleased but my late-rising daughter experienced a cold shower or two. We met lots of interesting international visitors in the quaint elevator, too. I'll stay again.

can't beat the price in this location
-
Daryl B
- May 21, 2012
The location in the Gramercy district is unbeatable, within walking distance of so much of the best of lower Manhattan. The hotel is quite old (it's a vintage hotel in NYC) but is fairly well kept and has its charms - some rooms have been updated more recently than others, but all are clean. There was never any wait for the shared bathrooms. There was an unfortunate incident with the gas supply to the building, which meant a cold shower was all that was available the day I was there. That was really the only issue from the stay, and the price can't be beat, especially for the location.

Accueil hôtel sympa (New Yorkais !)
Sans la promo, il aurait sans doute été un peu cher pour nous mais là aucun regret, le repos après de longues journées de marches et de découverte était vraiment complet.

Good hotel, odd location

The hotel itself is pretty good, solid set up and nice views even from the lower floors. The location is a bit off, in the no-man's land of manhattan (i.e., that part of midtown with the train station and nothing else). That said, it's also a little cheaper than similar quality hotels.

Stayed two nights at the hotel along with my son and his wife. Wonderful location in mid town, simple and lovely decoration, good-sized rooms, helpful and responsive staff, great breakfast buffet--what is not to like? I can only think of one thing: the location of the toilet paper is such that it gets wet from running water in the sink. Except for that, there is nothing not to like. I will be back next trip!

Great spot for work

Where you stay in New York depends in part on what part of town your work takes you. If you need to be in Murray Hill and having a comfortable place to work is important, it's hard to do better than the Affinia Dumont. Even the standard rooms are well sized, and the work space is generous, with an Aeron chair to boot. Throw in the kitchenette and the comfortable bed, and you're set for a great place to stay if you're in the city for work. It's neither the cheapest nor the priciest place, but you do pay for the quality. Many will find it worth the expense.

Its not the Ritz Carlton or anything. but it does the job. its clean, just enough enough space, and we had our own private bathroom. no sharing. really close to a few subways, so very convenient. and a store steps away where you can get snacks, drinks, sandwiches, food, coffee, dessert. we were in that place (Bread and Butter) alot!! also close to McDonalds (a block away) which is nice for kids or morning coffee. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY STAY HERE AGAIN WHEN WE VISIT NYC AGAIN. and we will be back for sure!!!

Lack of airconditioning may be a problem in the summer, but overall this hotel is excellent value for money in Manhattan.

The Dylan Hotel for The Perfect Midtown Manhattan Hotel Location
Located in the city's vibrant core in midtown Manhattan, the best of New York City is just outside our front door. We're only a short walk from Grand Central Station, Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Empire State, Fifth Avenue Shopping and the great restaurants of Manhattan. Only a few minutes away from New York's Jacob Javits Convention Center Surrounded by excitement. Cradled in comfort. That's what a stay at the Dylan Hotel in New York City is all about.
Dylan's interiors, by Jeffrey Beers, mark a deliberate departure from both the too stark and overly hip designs prevalent in the high-end boutique market, all in the 107 rooms of the hotel. Beers has created a timeless look for the property that redefines opulence for a new age while preserving the landmark-quality architecture of the 1903 Beaux-Arts structure.
The hotel features rich tones like amethyst, jade, emerald, opal and amber. Fabrics are soft and luxurious. The grandeur of the Dylan's public areas is evident from the moment one passes through the entryway.

Nice historical building just one block from Grand Central. Room must have been one of the laboratories or the library (the building used to be the Chemists Club), ceiling was triple-high, very nice. Room in good condition, staff helpful (when I asked them to lock away my 17-inch laptop since it wouldn't fit into the safe in the room they were at first a bit confused on how to do that but didn't give up until they found a solution; there was no ice maker on the floor but they brought ice up to the room within 5 minutes; etc. pp.), and all for a very decent price.

Firsf off, front desk staff (Pablo) gets an A+ for friendliness, willingnesd to help, hospitality, and overall made the experience positive. Housekeeping is also a friendly and nice bunch. The hotel is cool with a trendy vibe and modern decor. The common areas and rooms are clean. Despite small rooms, they outfitted it well with modern feeling amenities. Bathrooms are great too and finished with quality toiletries. Beds ars comfy and for a place to crash for the night, it was perfect.

Nice, clean, affordable

Honorary New Yorker
- Feb 21, 2011
We were interested in a clean, nice, affordable hotel close to the East 20s, just for the night. The price was right, the room clean and comfortable, and the staff pleasant. We had three misgivings. Only one elevator worked, it was small, and it moved very slowly. Second, we asked for a taxi to the airport, and the man behind the desk said sure, he could arrange that, only to provide us with the details for not a taxi, but a towncar. I only found that out when he told me the price ($65, instead of $50 for a taxi), and that it would be a black car. I had asked for a taxi. Third, the small space behind the front desk caused us some concern: a power strip full of plugs ran across the middle of the floor because the cord was far too short. This created a clear tripping hazard, which the very young-seeming staff may not have been alert to.

The room and staff were fantastic. The location could be a little better, but I rather pay for a good hotel some blocks away from Times Square than pay a lot of money for a bad room better located. My only issue is the price, but everything is expensive in New York, so it is a good choice.

Verite Hotel is a new boutique hotel about two minutes' walk from Union Square. It's located in a great retail area and only a block from 5th Avenue. The lobby presents a minimalist decor that is carried through in the rooms, which feature excellent quality beds and good linens. The white duvet-covered comforter and bedding give the whole room a pristine appearance. We stayed in a 4th floor room with two queen beds to accommodate three adults; there was also a sofa, desk, and wardrobe, which tended to make the room seem a bit crowded, but it turned out to be extremely functional and comfortable. The staff was most helpful as well as very professionally dressed. The only negative was the sound of the subway train undergound nearby, but this didn't really bother us. All in all, we look forward to staying at the Verite again. Highly recommended.

went with a medium king. room was very clean, record player + records was a nice touch. the bathroom wasn't large, with just a shower and no tub, but the shower itself had a rain-style showerhead and excellent pressure. bed was comfortable. front desk/door staff was very courteous and helpful. did not make use of concierge or room service. overall very pleasant and comfortable. there are cheaper places in manhattan, certainly, but if you value some level of style and comfort over pure utility, it's a great place.

Not only was the price reasonable, but the room was clean, the staff were extremely helpful and the free breakfast was delicious. Also, the concierge was very knowledgable and helped me to find my way to the subway (5 minute walk). Central to Times Sq., Penn Station and features a perfect view of the Empire State building.

Hotel Metro for a Mom and her teenage son
-
No floor sleeper
- Mar 13, 2012
We checked in and there was no room with two twin beds, just one with a double. My son immediately said he would sleep on the floor. The front desk clerk overheard this and upgraded our room for free to a family deluxe. And deluxe it was! Super clean, nicely decorated, excellent beds, safe although on a side street near the Empire State Building. Simple continental breakfast was included in the price. We stayed there two nights with mostly European guests (British and German). Highly recommend this hotel as a little gem.

Hotel was stylish and room was very sizeable - especially for New York. Its location is awesome. Close to the great restaurants of the village and SoHo. Subway stop in Union Square allows for easy transit around the city.
