I stayed on business and enjoyed this hotel quite a bit. Nice fitness room, nice common area on 2nd floor, friendly/helpful desk staff and concierge and huge room for the price. My only complaint, is the breakfast is pretty pricey for what it is....but that's NY for you.

Needs some maintenance
- Annavon
- Apr 30, 2012
The staff was friendly and courteous. However, the maintenance of the room required some attention. The electrical outlet on the desk (part of the lamp). Did not work. I needed to request an extension cord to charge my computer. The drain pop-up in the bathroom did not work correctly and even after a maintenance engineer came to fix it, it still caused the drain to not drain properly. The wall paper in the bathroom was dirty and peeling in spots. The maid service left a lot to be desired. Did not always get clean cups and glasses and needed to request re-fill for the coffee for the in-room coffee maker (available on request).

The level of noise in the room
-
Mishu
- May 22, 2012
Because the air conditioning system has (I suppose) an outside inlet, the room was disturbed by the traffic loudness.
Also, free internet access for hotel's clients could be something to be considered in the future.

Better than the Times Square W
-
Janessa
- May 14, 2012
All Ws are really stylish and sleek and I love the Bliss products. For that alone I would stay at the W!
This one on Lexington is much less claustrophobic than the Times Square one, and still walkable to the theatre district.
We also enjoyed a yummy brunch in the Heartbeat restaurant in the hotel.
The cleanliness is because of mildew in the shower tiles and a weird stench from the bathroom.

Excellent Location!
-
Jmarienic
- May 1, 2012
I loved the location. Very close to Grand Central. Lots of places to grab a quick snack nearby. Walking distance to Times Square. I always felt safe in the area. Very close to UN. The hotel is undergoing a renovation. The room we were given was old but clean. The bed and pillows were clean and comfy. The room could have been a bit cleaner and there are NO amenties. It is basically a place to sleep. I felt safe in the hotel and the staff was very nice. I would stay here again.

City weekend

CTJoe
- Apr 10, 2012
We stayed at the Helmsley for a weekend getaway in the city. The location is excellent for anyone arriving via train at Grand Central, since it is an easy walk and one never knows how long the taxi line will be. The staff is courteous and professional and the hotel has most of the usual amenities. We were surprised to learn there is no bar in the lobby and had to go elsewhere to have a drink with friends. The rooms are not huge but they are sufficient and in good shape. We did have some difficulty controlling the heat and the room was a bit warm at night, but it was spring and some changeover issues are to be expected. We will probably stay there again.

Excellent hotel

vitosmom

This was a great hotel. The location was perfect--close, but not in Time Square, close to Rockefeller Center, Carnegie Hall and Central Park. The staff was exceptional. We called for extra towels and they were delivered in minutes. When we were leaving, a staff person greeted us in the hallway, took our bags and hailed a cab for us. I don't think it took more than 5 minutes to check out and get into a cab.
We joked that the only negative we experienced was the ironing board; it was terrible. Other than that, the hotel was excellent!

I have stayed at the Jewel several times. The room was very comfortable and even though I was on the second floor on 51st St, the noise level was fine. I love the convenience of the hotel, its smaller size (less rooms = less people), not a big tourist hotel and clean and quiet. Whenever the rates are down I will stay there.

I was thrilled with the deal on this hotel a week before Christmas. Not a far walk to Times Sqaure, room was spacious with a kitchen area, sofa and lots of space. The only problem was the heat made a loud noise, but we weren't in the room long enough to care. Staff was friendly with valet and honored our request for a room with a great view for my girlfriend's birthday!! Will def stay there again!!

I visited NYC for pleasure and was looking for a location that was walking distance from Time Square and Broadway shows. This hotel is located in just that and more! It was walking distance from the shops on 5th ave, Rockafeller center, Times Square, Broadway, and St Patricks Cathedral.
The staff was friendly and helpful and the room service staff was accomodating to our schedule. The rooms were clean with comfortable beds which is all I was looking for. The room I was in was tight but spacious for a NY city hotel room. I never ate the free breakfast but at least it is offered.
My only complaint was the speed of the elevator. With only 2 elevators and 22 floors it can sometimes take 5 mins for one to reach you.

This is the second time I have stayed at this Hoiday inn Express - it is a nice place, wel located and good full breakfast, fairly quiet area off 5th avenue and 45th street. It cost more than last time, and each day had a different rate, adn discounts from previosu reviews did not apply toward this, which was a bummer, but it is a good location very clean and a friendly adn helpful staff. I plan to stay here again next time in midtown.

Very close to grand central station but their access is always blocked, you need to walk down the street to enter the subway. There was no housekeeping available after 9pm. Their restaurant was expensive and not worth the food. Their valet and bellman was very friendly, always greeted, presentable, helpful all the time. They were hailing out taxi, open out doors, helping us with our baggage-- very nice, professional, courteous, without expecting a tip and still friendly every time. The towels were changed daily. The toiletries refilled whenever needed. Hotel's always busy, lots of guests and events going on, elevators always full. Market is 24 hours-- love that, you can always get food, water, sandwich, pasta and other toiletries anytime you like. Hotel was close to everything, times square, 5th avenue, broadway.

Just the basics
-
AJAJ
- May 5, 2012
This hotel is literally just the basics, but if you're here for New York, it shouldn't really matter. The hotel served it's purpose - a bed to sleep on after a full day and night of out and about.
When I first arrived, the first thing I noticed in my room was this long hair on my desk, I just ended up throwing it away. It's not the cleanest of places, but with the location that I was getting, I wasn't mad.
Showers were a bit of a frustration in the mornings. The wait was something, but it never really took that long to get a shower open.
The front desk seemed to have a little bit of an attitude, maybe just a tired staff, a little snippy. My only dealings with them were at check-in and check-out though, so luckily I didn't get their attitude all the time.
Overall for the price and the location, I will be back and I am already planning my next trip.

For the budget concern, you will not find better deal than this place, the gym at ground floor is superb. The room is small but enough for sleeping if you are not picky. Overall, the hotel experience was great! The beds were comfortable, 12 pillow menu was innovative, room & bathroom size was more than adequate for NYC and elegantly designed. However, the front desk, spa, & concierge came off a bit pretentious but the other staff like the doormen & maids were very courteous and professional. And the spa was not really a spa but only a room for a massage--not worth it! And the food at The National was wonderful although a bit pricey but afterall Chef Zakarian is an Iron Chef...

The rooms were charming, old-fashioned (in a good way) and comfortable, with everything you expect. Plants and books were a nice touch, as was the doily under glass on the dresser. Best of all, each employee I encountered was thoughtful, intelligent, smiling and helpful. Kind, even. Much, much more interesting than a chain hotel. There's also a very good cheap pizza place right across the street, and a drugstore next door. Handy.

The Kimberly Hotel is centrally located, within easy walking distance of the subway. The room was quite large by Manhattan standards. (I'm not sure what qualifies a room as a "suite." Ours was basically a nice big room). The room had furnishings that you might find at very expensive hotels. No negatives at all.

We arrived late and had 2 rooms booked. They placed us on the same floor and even upgraded one of the rooms to a 2 BR to keep us close. Staff was great! Room was very clean and large - perfect for families. Nice toiletries from Bath and body works and included nice extras too. Free water and snack items in the rooms were a nice touch. Beds were comfortable and clean. Continental breakfast perfect to get you out the door quickly. No views from the room and lobby was tiny but not really important. Definitely would stay again!

We were very happy with the accomadations & the location; the pictures of this hotel(Best Western Plus Hospitality House) looked nice on their web site, but then again don't they all? For once I can say it was exactly what the pictures showed; the two bedroom suite was the perfect setting for the 4 of us women. A person doesn't expect two bedrooms in a single hotel room for less then an astronomical price , but add to that a living room/dining room combination & a full kitchen & it's just like your home away from home.We especially appreciated the continental breakfast each morning, saved time & money looking for it elsewhere. [...] at the desk during the day hours was especially helpful on both the day we checked in and the day we were to leave;when our shuttle back to the airport was more then an hour late,I think he was more upset about it then we were. & [...] at the desk later in the day & early evening was the perfect gentleman;not only made our dinner reservations for us, but then escorted us down (2 doors) to the restaurant to San Marten's where the food was EXCELLENT.This was only my 2nd trip to NYC, but when I go again, there's no question where I'll stay. Thank you Best Western Plus for making our stay very comfortable.

The hotel service was absolutely wonderful, the Four Seasons do have a rep. To live up to and try sure did. I was in NY visiting relatives and loads of shopping and it did provide a comfortable place to lay back after a long hard day. The food was delicious
, great variety.
