Primo location at 52 and Madison. Very nice suite with good amenities. Excellent concierge service: We were set up with two great dining experiences. Bar is friendly, but not exceptional. Public areas are small, but well designed. Hotel is smart, but not glam.

The hotel is in a perfect location. It's between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue. It is a short walking distance to the Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Radio City, MOMA. Excellent shopping experience on 5th Ave. and Madison Ave. The hotel is very clean and staff are very courteous. My only issue was that our room was too small. However, we will go back. Considering location, hotel was reasonably priced. Lots of good restaurants around the area that did not cost much.

Great locale for the holidays

  • mom playing hookey
  • Dec 21, 2012
Although the room was quite small, it somehow squeezed in several amenities such as a mini fridge, wardrobe, table, chairs, etc., and was quite attractive. The bathroom was relatively larger than the room and modern looking. We wanted to have a glass of wine before heading out to window shop (afterall, it is the holidays), and we couldn't charge the room service tab (which by the way was $25 for two small glasses of wine), could only pay by cash - and we ordered/repeated the order for one glass to be a spritzer and they goofed on that. Staff was helpful, cheerful, and accommodating. We had left our keys in the room and called as soon as we realized it. The keys were "found" and at the front "lobby" location when we got back. Great locale, especially at holiday time.

Great location

Overall this hotel was above average. The staff was great and welcoming upon arriving. The furnishings in the room we a bit dated and worn. The built-in around the TV came off its tracks when I open it and the couch in the room has a "pleather" feel to it. The location is the best part in my eyes, just a short walk to Grand Central made my experience. Overall good, just needs to have a few touch ups here and there...

Our room was spacious enough for 2 people. Fairly clean. Location of hotel was good, near all the places we wanted to visit and near Grand Central Station. Disappointed no coffee maker in room. No vending machine for ice on floor, had to request ice, got it once, second time we requested, the ice never arrived. Lobby staff were not very attentative or friendly when we first checked in, next day a little better reception. We had 3 large pieces of heavy luggage, no door man to help open door, or take up to our room.

A good NY stay

  • K24k24
  • Dec 17, 2012
We have been doing an annual NYC Christmas trip for almst 20 yrs and this hotel has been near the top of the list. Pricing a bit high, but location is central, rooms small but adequate and clean, with no apparent "wear" distractions. Bathrooms small, but, again, clean and adequate. Reminded us of some European hotels we've experienced. Would definitely stay there again.

Just a bit overpriced but otherwise terrific

  • Steve72
  • Nov 26, 2012
The room was small but clean and well appointed. Odd thing was that the king sized bed seemed to be two twins pushed together - there was quite a deep seam. the location is great and the hotel is very quiet (meant for business types). They have a fine lounge with coffee always available. There are several good restaurants nearby. My only problem was the price which only seemed low by comparison but was still high in reality. But maybe that's New York City

2 Nite Stay

A surprising experience, given the reasonable room rate. Attractive bar, good kitchen, excellent location...convenient to subways, taxis, shopping, museums, etal. Helpful staff. Some rumbling noise from the Lex Ave. subway, below. No business center for those staying w/o their own devices. But, overall, an excellent.

There are two great things about the Shoreham: the location and the cleanliness. It is just several blocks to Central Park one way and just a few more blocks the other direction to Rockefeller Plaza or St. Patrick's cathedral. Also, while the rooms are not large, they were clean and comfortable. If you are looking for a fancy hotel with beautiful architecture, this is not the place for you. If you want a clean, well priced room in a fabulous location, book this place.

Very affordable place to place the hotel itself is not so glamorous however clean and comfortable within walking distance to subway. there are some decent restaurants close by and a grocery across the street. I was very surprised at the size of the room BIG. The location was a little isolated but found it was quiet at night so sleeping was easier very little street noise. I was able to get a cab easily but mainly would walk the four or five blocks to the subway which was no big deal. Only problem I experienced was the coffee maker in room did not work and the hotel did not have any self serve coffee unitil730 am! by then I was already gone each day

Great combination of charm and modern amenities

  • EAP03
  • Dec 11, 2012
I stayed here one night while doing business near Bryant Park. Renovated modern room in a charming old building, great location, easy walk from Times Square. The M Bar in lobby has a limited menu but my choice (ravioli florentine) was great. Other reviewers commented about low lighting in room (true but fine for reading in bed) and wood floors (I didn't hear any sound problem and loved the extra cleanliness). Will stay again!

We had a great time. Our room had an outstanding view of the East River. It was a bit small, but comfortable for 2 days. Location was good for us. It's across town from Times Square and the theatre district. A short cab ride but quieter and ess crowded. Staff was very nice and helpful. Parking was expensive. We would certainly stay here again

  • Oct 29, 2012
The location of the hotels is very good. Close to practically everything. The staff was friendly and helpful with all our needs. The room was small, but cozy, the AC was broken but it was fixed very fast. The bed was beautiful but very uncomfortable for my taste, the room is not very dark to sleep, the light from the hall way, the clock radio the Ipod stand and the mini bar drove me nuts, did not get a good nights rest. We did not have meals at the hotel but where told of a great breakfast place a couple of blocks away, The Comfort Diner, it was very good and cheap. Overall the stay was good, next time I will be prepared for my good night sleep. One more thing the weather was great!!!

  • SpaceCadet Starfire
  • Oct 17, 2012
We were delighted with our stay at The Roger Smith with a few exceptions. The rooftop bar was closed for some reason, as was the bar next to the lobby, and the elevators were too small to accommodate a wheelchair. Fortunately my friend was able to stand for the ride up to our floor, but it could have been very awkward to have to use the service elevator or something all the time. Otherwise, the staff were friendly and helpful, the bed was heavenly, and the bathroom was like out of a movie set. Quaint is a word that comes to mind here. I would stay here again.

Overall, the hotel experience was great! The beds were comfortable, 12 pillow menu was innovative, room & bathroom size was more than adequate for NYC and elegantly designed. However, the front desk, spa, & concierge came off a bit pretentious but the other staff like the doormen & maids were very courteous and professional. And the spa was not really a spa but only a room for a massage--not worth it! And the food at The National was wonderful although a bit pricey but afterall Chef Zakarian is an Iron Chef...

Close to Central Park, Bloomingdales, good restaurants and subway. Only critic would be the rooms are a little 'old' and tired for cost paid. However staff lovely and very comfortable hotel. In house restaurant and sundries don't offer value for money but local shops do.

On a pretty quiet street (E 44th Street)

  • gsuen
  • Dec 12, 2012
The room wasn't what I call large, but it wasn't a mini / capsule either. I had a king room which had plenty of room for the bed, a small desk, a tv on the wall, a good sized closet with safe, a good sized bathroom, and room for me to put my roller bag up. It's an older building, but tucked away on E 44th which is one way into a T intersection, so there isn't as much traffic as the other place I moved from (St Giles). I didn't hear any of my neighbors, but that's not a promise. I didn't check out the Irish pub, but it looked nice and I didn't eat there. The only issues I had was one of the electric sockets near the desk didn't work and there were some chipping (no sharp edges) in the floor tiles in the otherwise perfectly nice bathroom. My room was on the 4th floor and I took the stairs half of the time. I really enjoyed this room and would definitely consider staying here again as it is near my Midtown office.

Wonderful memory

We spent our anniversary weekend at the Plaza, and had a wonderful experience. It was pricey, but worth it for the memories, the location, and the way we were treated by every single staff member we met. They were overly accomodating and kind. We would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I stayed four nights at this hotel. Best location for shopping. Wonderful experience. Staff made us feel very welcome. Service in Palm Court and Bars was outstanding. Great bed-never slept better. Very expensive hotel but worth it - would definitely stay at the Plaza again. They also provide a BMW 7 to take guests anywhere within a ten block radius. Just ask doorman if car is available.

Convenient location with comfort

This was close to Grand Central Station. The rooms were nice and all of the employees were very helpful. I found the exercise facility was great, as well. The downside was that there was poor access to the business center and the restaurant was closed in the morning. However, there was a PAX food next door so breakfast was served.

Staff was great, room was good. BUT... For a couple of hundred bucks +, for the room, they needed to get just a little MORE money out of me. Cost $50 if you want to use the refrigerator in the room. Free coffee, but you need to make do with one ersatz creamer for the whole weekend. I needed to get dressed first thing in the AM, and go out to get coffee. That is really cheap on their part. I didn't bring a computer because all hotels have a business center. But again, this one charges to use it. I think, I'll go back to the cheap hotels. At least they provide decent services.

Wonderful staff but terrible rooms!!! Do not stay here!

  • MAJL
  • Dec 19, 2011
The first room I was given was 15 ft from the front desk of the hotel. When I asked to be relocated, I was brought down to the basement to a room right next to the electrical closet. There was no headboard, and the bathroom had 2 seperate doors with large spaces in btwn the door and frame, leaving no privacy to use the bathroom. The last room available had no windows but at least was on a higher floor. All the the rooms were insanely small- even by NYC standards- barely room for a queen bed and nightstand, with the bathroom door not even 2 ft from the bed. I'll never stay here again!

From before we even arrived, Sam, was fantastic, accommodating, and cordial. The place was more than expected; huge, clean, very comfortable. Location is great, and everyone was very nice. They even arrange pick ups for airport.

Das Hotel ist an bester Lage in Manhattan. Es bietet alles, was man erwartet inkl.
