Upon arrival, service staff not very welcoming,and we were shocked that they were talking very loud and unprofessional to the guest prior to us! They did not offer cookies, we found out other guest received cookies upon arrival. Incidently, later that day, our T.V did not work, so the evening person was very accomodating, his name is [...]. He upgraded our room, which was cleaner, and updated, also he offered us cookies. He greeted us and serviced us with outstanding professionalism. The only other disappointment was the limited seating outside the restaurant, and the fact that no drink/food was allowed out there. In warm weather and not a good neighborhood, there is not much else to do. We were disappointed that we could not even have a soda out on the patio. Again, the final room was well accomodating, unfortunately we had to move all our belongings that evening from the previous std. room, that was an inconvenience, but [...] was very professional and accomodating in this matter. Also, the security guard for the parking in the evening was very accomodating, since we had an expensive sport car and were not comfortable parking in the underground garage where it was not visible and the hotel made it clear that they were not responsible for damage or loss of property, he allowed us to park up front near the gate of security, where we could see it and security also was right there. Finally, during my conference a woman seated next to me, came in 1 and 1/2 hours late the 2nd day of the conference, very upset. Apparently, she parked at JFK airport and called several times and the cust. service kept telling her "they are on there way" and the hotel does advertise that the shuttle runs every 30 minutes and somehow, they picked her up finally, but she missed a lot of crucial info, and made it clear when she arrived so late, that mgmt was going to hear from her. This woman is a manager at a local hospital in NYC and I don't believe she would exagerate the situation. We all felt real bad and know there is no excuse for this inconvenience. I hope our future stays at Doubletree Hotels are improved by giving you feedback. Thank you.

Stay was short but staff was very helpful & friendly. Room was clean & well equipped with lots of towels, iron & ironing board, blow dryer, sofa, desk, 2 telephones, very comfortable pillows etc.. and a great breakfast selection.
Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Best part was the breakfast

Though there were some complications stemming from booking a smoking-room (though a staff member insisted that it wasn't, the smell was very obvious), the rest of our stay was pretty nice. I have to say the best part was the all-you-can eat buffet. We only had breakfast, but the variety of foods were great and the service was excellent. Rahman and Vinny were especially considerate, even offering to make us a large Belgian waffle himself when one of us caused the batter to stick to the waffle-maker. The gym was a bit cramped but as a family of four, we were able to get a good 45-minute workout. What we did NOT appreciate, however, was the $21/day hotel guest parking fee. We know that it is rare for guests to rent cars, considering the hotel provided free shuttle service but to cause additional burden for those who do happen to rent a car is inexplicable to us. To avoid that, we had no choice but to park the car outside across from the hotel. Also, the bedsheets were not as comfortable as we had hoped. Overall, it was a good stay. We would recommend it to others if they happened to be in the Jamaica area.

convenient for early morning flights

I stayed overnight as I had an early morning flight from JFK. I arrived late (close to midnight) and had no problems with the staff checking in, despite the hour. The hotel was quiet, clean and comfortable. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to the airport that runs on the half hour. It was very convenient.

Room was ok, bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was service your self and both filling and fresh. If you know your way around and/or have a rental car this will do nicely. But if you're looking for sights and need to be close to the city you might want to try something else. However if your adventerous or familure with the NY Metro system then this is someplace you might want to think about for the dollar value.

Great Place for a Good Value

I have stayed in this hotel a few times and I have so far enjoyed my stay there. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful. The room is a good size for a hotel in NYC and it is pretty clean as far as I can tell. If however your room faces Jamaica Avanue, then you may have a problem with the constant noise as Jamaica Avenue is pretty busy at all times. The hotel is literally one to two minutes away from the subway. I have read some of the reviews saying the location is unsafe. I think some guests may get that impression because a lot of police cars pass right in front of the hotel, but, as I said, Jamaica Avenue is quite a busy Avenue so it makes sense police cars will drive through it. I have never felt unsafe and in danger in there when I went to order take out at night. My only complaint is the wifi connection. You do get free internet, but it is slow and could certainly be better. The hotel is about 40 minutes away from the city so if you have business in Manhattan, this hotel may not be for you. Considering the rates, the hotel is a great place to stay.

This hotel is not as roomy and nice as other LaQuinta Inns. But the big problem is finding the place. The address is hard to locate with a GPS and it is definitely off the main path. Also, the staff are not very well informed with directions, etc.

Overall, everything was great. Our room was very comfortable and clean. They had a lot of great options for breakfast in the morning, and the whole staff was helpful and nice. The only problem we had was the area. It's not within a good walking distance to any nice restaurants or anything to do, and it's pretty far from the city. If you're just looking for a good night to stay bc of a layover or anything like that however, I definitely reccomend it!

Convenience to JFK at a very reasonable price.

Hotel is situated within a 10 minute drive to the JFK terminals. Although in a relatively busy part of Jamaica, Queens, NY, I found the room to be very quiet, comfortable and relaxing. There is valet parking behind the hotel for which you will be charged $10 per night. My car was retrieved very quickly upon check out. Continental breakfast (included) was reasonable.

Everything was great, the people, the room, the food, etc, but the only problem / inconvenience was that the hotel shuttle does not pick up airport passengers at their terminal, but rather at a central location, which means you have to take the airtrain and move your luggage etc across the terminal to get there. There is no problem going home, since the shuttle drops you off directly at your respective terminal. :)

Small room but comfort, clean and best place to stay

It's really good that I've booked this hotel. The room is samll but clean. Bed is so soft and comfort. I like all those decoration in the room. Hotel is quite close to JFK airport and it's the best choice to stay if you have to chatch your flight in early morning next day. Staffs are very friendly, helpful and kind. I feel like they are really willing to help you and provide you with a very useful information when asked. Hotel shutte is another best service to choose to stay at this hotel. They are just on time. They won't let you wait for so long. They don't merely pick and drop you at airport, they even do that to train station if you need so. I'll come back here again fore sure if I happen to go back to state. Lastly, complimentary breakfast is another choice.

I expected far less and received far more. Although at first glance the hotel seems further than expected, in reality its just between both LGA & JFK. The hotel itself is excellent. Another one of those surprises when I actually walked into the hallways then entered my room. I was like WO! Mind you I am a Diamond member at Hilton (translates to frequent hotel guest due to frequent travel, just an FYI). Really worth the savings and worth the location. I was impressed.

room - clean, did not have a hair dryer, does not have a microwave, a bit on the small side, but cozy for a simple night away.
check out - late check out is available, however quite expensive
breakfast - was not very tasty, didn't have a wide selection.

The staff is great. Friendly and professional.
Rooms clean and comfortable.
The only problem is that there is no parking lot so you have to spend $20 a day for valet parking, The valet service is quick and professional, but I"d prefer a lot.
I'd stay there again.

Stayed here for one night for a long layover. Fast reliable shuttle to and from the airport and there was decent breakfast included. All for a good price. If I have another overnight layover at JFK, I would stay again.

If you're looking for a cheap place to stay before catching an early morning flight, this place will do just fine. They have free wifi and the staff were friendly and helpful -- they printed out my boarding pass for me. The shuttle to the airport ran on time and the free continental breakfast was a nice plus.
This hotel isn't close to anything except JFK, so I wouldn't stay here if you're planning on doing anything other than getting some sleep before catching a flight.

Perfect for a short layover

It was only for a one night layover. The staff were helpful, the shuttle to the airport was on time, the room was clean, the bed comfortable, etc. If you are looking for something more, then you'll have to pay more as this is a place that is straight to the point and obviously serves a specific and basic purpose. I would stay here again given the relative cost and convenience.

Had a reservation/confirmation for kingsize smoking room. Was told at checkin that smoking rooms are not guaranteed through 3rd party bookings (i.e. cheaptickets)but only if booked directly through the hotel. Even though they had the required room available they couldn't give it to us because their internal computer wouldn't allow them to change assigned room numbers! They finally gave me an ashtray for a nonsmoking room with my promise to smoke at the open window only.........ridiculous isn't it?

I went to New York to have a surprise visit with a friend from the past. This hotel was an great location. Very easy to get to from the airport. There is a major mall near the hotel. Just drive straight down the street a few miles from the hotel -- no turns until you get there. The staff was professional, but friendly and extremely helpful. I will stay there again and would recommend it to anyone. The parking fee is reasonable for New York. The restaurant staff is very polite, the food is over-priced and not that good.

The hotel has a parking space issue, but when I got there around 3am, theovernight shift attendant remove his car and gave me his parking spot. he did not have to, but dit it out of courtesy.

I’m speaking as a person who did not have a car, who walked and used public transportation to get around NYC.
Stayed 6 nights early October 2011, location is great for the air train from JFK $ 5.00. The end of the Air Train line is at a main subway stop which is a one block walk from the motel. The hotel, rooms and breakfast, were very good, all of the staff treated us very well. No microwave or refrigerators in rooms. I would highly recommend this hotel based on the hotel by it's self. However, there are no decent sit down restaurants within walking distant, and the neighborhood at the subway stop at Archer Ave. & Sutphin Bl is somewhat seedy, but, there are a lot of police lingering in the area. Bottom line, the hotel by its self I'd give it 4 stars and it's proximity to the air train and subway is excellent.

When i arrvied in my room the heat didn't work,but it was fixed pretty quickly,room was clean,the cleaning staff seen to be under staffed.I didn't receive clean towels ,even tough i asked for extra.no room service

The hotel is not horrible like all the reviews I read were saying. It isn't by trains or close to buses. You would have to take a cab to the train. The hotel itself is very nice. Small but most hotels in NY are. The room was very comfortable. The service was horrible though. They cleaned my room twice and didn't leave towels or wash cloths either time. When I called for them, it took over 2 hours to get them, same thing with the iron. It wasn't in the room and took forever for them to bring it. Other than that it was a nice hotel. They just need to work on the service. Also the shuttle did not run regularly. The final thing was they said there would be early check in but when I got there they didn't allow it. I had to wait until 3 to check in and then the room still wasn't ready. I had to call and tell them I needed towels, pillowcases etc. It took forever for them to come.
