Albuquerque is a vibrant, sprawling desert metropolis near
the center of New Mexico. It is the largest city in the state and has a number
of great attractions in its own right, with pleasant scenery, colorful history,
and a spectacular hot-air balloon fiesta in the fall.
Albuquerque was founded in 1706 as a small Spanish
settlement on the banks of the Rio Grande and was named for the Duke of
Albuquerque. In the 1880s the railroad came to town, and almost overnight a new
city grew up around the train tracks a couple of miles away from the original
settlement. This "New Town" became the hub of commerce for the state,
and the city grew exponentially. Eventually the "New Town", which
today is Downtown, and the original "Old Town" settlement were joined
to become part of the same city.
In the 1920s the federal government officially recognized a
series of highways that ran from Chicago to Los
Angeles as Route 66, and Albuquerque was one of the towns "The
Mother Road" passed through. Today, Albuquerque is still the hub of
commerce and transportation in the state. While Santa Fe is the state capital
and the principal tourist destination of New Mexico, Albuquerque is the state's
only truly urban area, with a city population of over 500,000 and a
metropolitan population of nearly a million people. This is where you'll find
the headquarters of the state's businesses, the University of New Mexico, and
the Albuquerque International Sunport, the only major airport in the state.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights. Didn't spend much time ther other than sleeping. It was conveniently located. Rooms were relatively clean. Didn't like the pillows. Way to big. hard on neck and shoulders. It did offer hot breakfast but did nt look appetizing at all. Kids ate a bit. Coffee was good.

Out of Town Wedding Goer
- May 16, 2012
I found this accommodation as part of a flight booking deal and chose it for its location in relation to a wedding reception I was in town for and the fact that every room comes with a kitchenette, which helped me save on food. I had a second floor walk-up (no elevator) with a door to the outdoors (which is fine, because it is New Mexico, but a little weird since your big picture window provides a view into your room for anyone walking by in the outdoor hallway). Room was fine--nothing special, but fairly clean. Bed not as nice as at home, but fine. Full size fridge. Two of everything in terms of utensils and you wash it all yourself in the sink. Iron and board was in the room. Unfortunately, no television guide or coffee filters, but if you want free coffee, you walk your mug down to the reception desk, which might be in a different building (don't spill!). Desk people knowledgeable about area, so don't hesitate to ask about anything. Overall, cannot complain!

Inexpensive home base

We spent a week in New Mexico and used this motel as a home base for the entire week. The rent was so inexpensive that we did not mind staying at other places if we were gone for a long time. The room is very basic but does have large fridge, a microwave and stove. There are only enough plates and utensils for two. Nothing fancy but well worth the price.

Weekender
- Jun 26, 2011
My wife joined me in Albuquerque after I attended a two day seminar in another hotel. I moved to this downtown location because the other hotel was taken over for the weekend by another convention. Downtown has more to offer, though a lot of attractions require some driving. The hotel staff at the Hyatt Regency were very nice, though seemingly constantly occupied by something on their computers. The room was clean and spacious, the fitness facility and pool quite nice as well. The hotel restaurant, Forque, serves a delicious breakfast, and the dinner menu looked good though we didn't eat there. The hotel lounge staff were friendly as well. We booked a room package that included breakfast - it was a very good deal. Parking was also included with the room, though we did have to pay for internet access. I'd stay here again, and recommend the hotel.

The room was a good size and had a couch and a balcony, but we could not turn the air conditioning off. The control board didn't work. Also the walls were thin and we could hear everything!. The bed was almost rock solid and the TV was not even a flat screen. When we asked about late checkout they told us we would have to wait until the morning to know if we could check out late, which didn't make sense to me. The waterpark would have been great if tickets were not 40.a person!!!

Loved the Native American motif
-
Route 66 road tripper
- May 19, 2012
Room was as represented online with lovely Native American touches in massive lobby & in rooms. I was told when I made my reservations 1 mo. in advance that I'd have to have a ground floor room as I had a pet. I was given a top 5th floor room on arrival with a lovely mountain view & balcony which is what I wanted in the 1st place. Since it was Cino De Mayo the 1st night of my stay at the hotel, it was packed with LOUD, rowdy, drunken clientele covering the lobby, hanging off balconies hootin' & hollerin' and with lots of children monopolizing pool & spa area & running through the halls in their wet suits leaving large water puddles everywhere including the elevator. This was all going on between 8-9pm as I was checking in. Luckily my room was quiet, clean, very comfortable & far from the maddening crowds. Next day most of the crowds were leaving & the pool was mysteriously closed for "cleaning & maintenance" so I never saw the outdoor tepee or indoor/outdoor pool. Although their restaurant was never open as stated, there was plenty of choices in the neighborhood. I would have given the hotel 5 stars except for a couple of problems. NO fridge & microwaves in rooms & for a 2 night stay it was very inconvenient to take the elevator to another floor to find the few ice machines available to make my tiny ice chest into an icebox for my needs. They are also pet friendly for a $25 one time non refundable fee. I loved the hotel & I'd stay here again, but not on a holiday.

I needed a place to stay close to the airport for just one night. The front desk was a pleasant experience. I did need to remind them that I needed a crib, but they delivered it after being asked, plus they delivered a bag I had left on the counter. Room was comfortable and clean. It's very close to the airport and as close as you can get to the rental car return.

The architecture, artwork, and Spanish design of this hotel is awe-inspiring for anyone who loves beauty; we could have been in Europe. Our room was immaculate and gorgeous as well, with special touches. We had a dinner upon arrival that was both delicious and healthy (sometimes hard to find) in the smaller restaurant. Swimming in the pool and soaking in the hot tub under the stars, after a long drive, was a perfect, romantic ending to a great day. I could not believe the quality of this place for the very reasonable price, and will definitely return on trips to the southwest!

We came into Albuquerque for a getaway weekend and stayed at the Sheraton. The reason we chose the Sheraton over any other hotel was because they allow animals for no extra charge. The rooms are very clean with plush carpeting and very very comfortable beds. The staff has always been friendly and very helpful.
The ONLY complaint I have is that the pool isn't heated. I guess it's really not a big deal since it's hot in NM most of the year and normally it's a comfortable temperature. We decided to go for a quick swim the morning we were checking out and the water was freezing. I'm sure if we had swam during the day or later in the afternoon/evening, we wouldn't have had any problems.

Was very impressed with this hotel. 14 hour road trip and wanted to break it in the middle, so ABQ was the stop. Quick check-in, friendly staff, amazing room, comfortable bed, fun ambience, great location. Only recommendation I would make would be having a fridge in the room (maybe you can request one?) for food brought on the road/leftovers. I will definitely stay here again on trips home!

The free hot breakfast buffet and 2 free drinks were a nice perk. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The free shuttle to the airport and hospital were tremendous. Hotel outdated, but room very comfortable and sheets clean. I would recommend without hesitation.

It was a nice room, adequate for our one night purpose, half way home......suffers in comparison to our previous Friday night stay....bigger room, more channels (spec Fox Sports AZ), living room plus bedroom...so this was smaller and internet was slowere and dropped off.

I had to fly in and out of Albuquerque airport really early in the morning, so the location was perfect. Literally minutes from the airport. Hotel was a basic no-frills accommodation but was clean and comfortable enough to make it pleasant.
Nothing to rave about, but really have nothing bad to say about either. Staff was nice and friendly.

Beware no security and terrible crime
- wary traveler
- Jan 26, 2011
this is a nice hotel but no security and no cameras on parking lot. I had two vehicles broken into and lost many valuable items plus much financial information. Staff tells me the owners do not care.
Same thing happened last night to someone else. Staff tells me it happens very often.
