Nice hotel

My wife joined me in Albuquerque after I attended a two day seminar in another hotel. I moved to this downtown location because the other hotel was taken over for the weekend by another convention. Downtown has more to offer, though a lot of attractions require some driving. The hotel staff at the Hyatt Regency were very nice, though seemingly constantly occupied by something on their computers. The room was clean and spacious, the fitness facility and pool quite nice as well. The hotel restaurant, Forque, serves a delicious breakfast, and the dinner menu looked good though we didn't eat there. The hotel lounge staff were friendly as well. We booked a room package that included breakfast - it was a very good deal. Parking was also included with the room, though we did have to pay for internet access. I'd stay here again, and recommend the hotel.

This hotel was refreshingly different architecturally, beautifully and thoughtfully restored from an old hospital both inside and out. A wonderful roof terrace and paved garden area were an unexpected pleasure. The rooms are not large but very well presented and equipped, the numerous staff particularly helpful and friendly, and the shuttle bus was readily available to take us anywhere. Breakfast was also very good as were light meals from the roof terrace bar . The only grouse we might have was that for us hot drinks were an issue as there are no facilities in the rooms and the coffee/hot water vacuum flasks available 24 hours were often tepid; the staff would renew them willingly if asked but a better hot drinks system would have made the place pretty perfect. We would go back tomorrow, but maybe with a travel kettle.

For $44 I got a king size bed, mini fridge and the other usual amenities. I was happy with all the physical aspects of the place, but the service was lacking. From the minute I checked in there was this sort of apathetic rudeness from the owner, and that continued through my stay. Whatever my request or question, she seemed shady, irritated and all around anxious for me to leave. I even caught her entering my room for no other reason than to look inside of it. Not a nice lady!

I picked this hotel because I wanted to spend my birthday dancing. Since I live far away from the city, staying at a hotel was a must. We looked for a hotel that would have a dance plance near by. Turns out that this hotel had the dance place inside. I loved the music, modern and it was difficult not dancing. Great DJ!

Andaluz

The Andaluz is a beautiful hotel, it really has been recently renovated and it looks it. (I remember when it was La Posada forty years ago.) Even if you don't stay here, just go into the lobby and look around. You can have a drink on the mezzanine, or go up onto the roof for a view of the city and Sandia Mountain. I think the rooms are over-decorated, though, with too different designs and colors and neo-western art to take seriously. Some artwork, like the partly filled beer cans and bottles on the wall, looked like leftovers from a previous party - it wasn't attractive or thought-provoking. Still, it's a very good hotel, quiet, with good amenities and helpful staff. Depending on your budget, I'd recommend it. Ask to see a room first if you're unsure.
