What travelers to Boardwalk are saying

AC used to be a place I would go to at least once a month to gamble. However, there are now casinos 20 mins from my home where AC is a 2 hr drive. So maybe I make it here 1-2 times a year now. The town is a shadow of its former prominence. There is one casino that I still enjoy visiting and it is the Tropicana because of all the shops and extra activities within. I believe that the folks in charge are trying to make it a family destination but it may be too little too late. It used to be fun to walk the boardwalk and hop from casino to casino, but there are so few left now that now it's only exercise :) My parents brought me here as a kid prior to the casinos and I'm rooting for a comeback. Good luck AC.... this time you're gonna need it...

Atlantic City used to be so much fun, when I was younger (as a native New Yorker). Now due to the economy, a lot of businesses has closed & the boardwalk & restaurants don't stay open as late, which puts a damper on the nightlife. So unless you are going to stay in a fun hotel, or are coming to shop at the outlets or hang out on the beach or gamble, you might be disappointed. Our stay this go around we did stay at a happening hotel, and we shopped, but after a long day & short nap, we disappointed that most restaurants were closed by 1130pm.

Atlantic City has issues - all of the casino hotel's are built wrong - there are minimal ones that have balcony's or even windows that open. Leaving the resort area is a bit of a risk, pan handlers seem to be everywhere. It's definitely a have vs. have not resort. I'm not a gambler so I only go to see shows that pass through and count AC as their Philly region show. I try to stay at the hotel/casino hosting the show and only venture out to The Irish Pub or Ducktown Tavern.

Bright lights and big thrills Atlantic City’s Boardwalk

Serving as a lively link between city and sea, the Atlantic City Boardwalk stretches for more than four miles along Absecon Island on the famed Jersey Shore. First constructed in 1878, this American icon separates the ocean beach from a variety of venues, ranging from retail shops and museums to casinos, boardwalk hotels and restaurants, all with that singular Atlantic City flair.

Things to do

Take a ride

The boardwalk's herringbone-patterned layout provides the perfect surface for two-wheeled vehicles, and a leisurely bicycle ride provides the easiest way of making your way through all the hustle and bustle. There's no need to bring your own. as rentals can be found all along the boardwalk.

Hit the beach

Atlantic City beaches are free and open to all. It's just a short walk to the ocean from any of the AC boardwalk hotels. There's never a cover charge, so any fine day will give you the opportunity to make some waves.

What to see

Atlantic City is known for diversity. There's so much here to see and do, you'll barely have time for the slots.

The piers

Steel Pier houses a family-style amusement park with a number of attractions and food to suit the entire family. If shopping is your passion, head down to The Pier Shops at Caesars. While go-kart fans will find the right track on the Central Pier, the Garden Pier offers both the Atlantic City Historical Museum and the Atlantic City Arts Museum for those in need of a culture fix.

The Atlantic City casinos

As you amble along the boardwalk, it won't be long before you encounter one of the many casino entrances. Deciding which to visit first could be the hardest part. From south to north, you will have at your disposal the Tropicana, Caesars, Bally's, Wild Wild West and the Trump Taj Mahal.

Special events in Atlantic City

The Miss America Pageant

After an absence of nearly 10 years, the Miss America Pageant has returned to its original home. If you're in town during the middle of September, stop by Boardwalk Hall and have a look for yourself.

Atlantic City Boardwalk Wine Promenade

Take a stroll in the ocean air and enjoy live music as you sample more than 100 handpicked varieties of wine and champagne at various boardwalk locations. This September event will satisfy all your senses.

Where to stay on the Atlantic City Boardwalk

You are in the midst of all the action in Atlantic City Boardwalk, with direct access to casinos, beaches and piers. Revel is a highly sophisticated and fairly new addition to the area. Complete with nightclub and 11 fine dining restaurants, there is also a sky garden for guests to take in the luxurious surroundings. For those who prefer their lodgings minus major indulgences, the Days Inn Atlantic City Waterfront offers a more modest and comfortable experience.

The perfect time to visit

Although a maritime climate keeps Atlantic City's temperatures on the moderate side, visitors must remember that AC is still a northeastern resort area. Temperatures average in the 20s during the winter and summer temperatures usually have highs in the 80s. The summer months offer the widest array of things to see and do for visitors to the Boardwalk, but the indoor attractions ensure that, regardless of when you visit, there will be more than enough to keep you entertained.
