Winter Lodge in Summer

  • Kilian
  • Aug 13, 2011
The hotel at best location at Big Sky felt a little bit 'left-ove'r from the last winter season. But large, clean comfortable rooms with kitchenette & fridge. Indoor swimming pool did not invite for (summer) swimming. But outdorr terasse with two nice hot-tubs. Service is friendly, but a bit incompetent. Breakfast is availble in the main hall. Nice place also in summer for all kind of outdoor activities: Biking, hiking, adventure park... Was good value for the price (and a good starting point for Yellowstone Park coming from the North).

Perfect for Medium/ large family with transport

We stayed in a 2 bedroom (+loft) condo and it was lovely. Everything you would need in the kitchen and nice amenities with lovely furniture throughout. Definitely made you feel you were staying in somebody's home vs. a corporate condo/ hotel. For skiing the shuttle was not as convenient as I would have liked (~400 yards and ran on the hour), but with our own vehicle Big Sky resort had free parking so it worked out well. Would definitely stay here again.

very family friendly and gorgeous atmosphere

  • julia
  • Aug 2, 2007
The Huntley Lodge has an absolutely gorgeous lobby. The staff was accomodating with mobile issues and very friendly. The room was adequate and the beds comfortable. The bathroom had it's own sink with another little kitchenette sink. It had a coffee maker and room refrigerator for your drinks and such. Room service was prompt each morning to change linens and to clean the room. Inside the lodge there are shops that you can buy clothing, shoes and keepsakes. There is also a restaurant that provides breakfast and dinner but not lunch each day. The shop operators are very friendly and knowledgeable. When we first arrived we were feeling kinda yucky and didn't know why. After talking to one shop operator we found out that because of the high altitude we MUST drink plenty of water. When we did so, we felt fine. They have a kids club that your children can participate in and a lovely heated pool. As this is way up in the mountains, the air is filled with pine. The adjacent properties were just like a swiss challet nestled into the nearby mountain that is absolutely lovely at dusk. There is a ski lift just next door. They also have what they call a mall just across the way in the next yard where there are shops and a small grocery store, a pizza joint, places to rent mountain bikes and buy ski lift tickets and a bar to hang out. There are activities like tennis and volley ball also. If you decide to go, you will not be disapointed with the atmosphere. The only things that I will caution on are the mountainous roads. There are less than 1% railings on those deep winding and bending curves. BE CAREFUL! when driving. I would not recommend driving at night if you're not used to driving such roads. It takes a little while to get down off the mountain and to get back to the lodge. The open space when you finally get down the mountain is breathtaking. There is a golf course nearby and a couple of gas stations. Also a bank. There is an atm machine inside the mall. Also the only really disappointing thing is there was no ariconditioning inside our room. Since we were so high up, the air at night and early moring was quite cool. like 50's and 60's so we did not suffer. The lodge provided standard issue fans and the rooms had windows that opened.

We heard this was one of the best hotels in Montana. The staff was fine, desk clerk explained "green" heating and cooling system but we wanted to just shut it down and never could get it to stop blowing either very warm or very cool air. The shower was missing grout and had black mold in the corners. The towels smelled foul like they had not been cleaned. The lighting was very dim in the bathroom. For the price we were disappointed. We did have a really good time in Big Sky and did the zipline. Very Fun! Guides were awesome!

Several disconnects

  • Brian
  • Mar 10, 2011
I was there for a conference at the Big Sky resort conference center... We had to pay a flat rate no matter how many people were staying. For two people, this was expensive... comparable to NYC or DC-area prices. And we were a quarter-mile downhill from the conference center, which meant trudging back and forth through the snow (walks were buried). And while the room was okay, it was supposed to be made up every other day. It wasn't... checked in Saturday, and no one bothered stopping by until my last day there (Wednesday). And I had to go back to the check-in desk and ask for my car parking pass.

Comfortable Thanksgiving Celebration!

  • Sarah
  • Dec 4, 2009
Having read earlier reviews we were presently surprised with our accomodation. All was clean and organised. Plenty of cooking facilities for our Thanksgiving dinner. Warm and cosy with the added bonus of an open fire with plentiful freee logs. We had a beautiful view down the valley and across to chalets and beautifully lit trees. A short walk found us at the hub of the village with lifts and indoor restaurants and bars. Was slightly concerned that the studio type might not be large enough- but for a couple the accomodation was excellent. A private ski store cupboard was an added bonus. I would have no hesitation in returning to the Stillwater Cominindiums and the beautiful and challenging resort of Big Sky. Snow, sun and skiing at it's best!
