Meet Me in St Louie

Just a couple of things that really needed improved, they were understaffed at the front desk the wait time was way too long. The parking was $18 a day which would have been OK, BUT no in & out privileges! You need to be able to take your car in & out of the garage for that price. The only problem with the room was when we shut the door the shower curtain fell into the tub! But when I reported it when we left the room, when we returned it was fixed "good service" And when did they stop putting mini fridges in the room, I think that is more of a necessity than a blow-dryer that everyone already packs anyway! The food at the restaurant was good and the view was GREAT!

Great location for the baseball and football games and downtown! Only a few problems: The bathroom was small, our toilet was leaking even after maintenance came and "fixed" it. The shower was dirty. Overall, ok.

Great hotel, but has hidden expenses

Very large, exquisite hotel. Stayed in a room with one king bed and a nice big window overlooking downtown St. Louis. The mini fridge was great to have, and the bed was comfortable and had a nice down comforter and soft pillows. The bathroom had a large tub with the curved shower curtain rod, giving you extra space, but the shower head was so high up on the wall that I couldn't reach it without standing on the side of the tub (I'm 5'1). My husband had to come in and adjust it for me and it was really lose for some reason. I couldn't point the shower head in the direction I wanted because it kept falling downward. Not sure if it was just our room or if all the rooms are like that. Also, the layout of the bathroom puts the sink behind the door, which is awkward. You have to open the door and then close it to get to the sink.
Then there are the hidden charges. The room comes with a bottle of water, but it has a $3 tag on it. You also have to pay for wi-fi in the room. They charge you $14/day to park your car in the garage, which is the only place to park and I didn't know about the parking fee until we checked-in. They do not offer complimentary breakfast, but they do have a restaurant in the hotel and a Starbucks, which means more money spent. I found the Starbucks to be a bit lacking for such a nice hotel. The coffee was typical Starbucks, but they barely had any pastries/cakes/sandwiches at all.
Overall, great hotel if you don't mind spending the money. This was a special treat for my husband and I, not our typical hotel stays. We didn't feel safe walking around after dark, so be aware of the location. Even during the day we had bums trying to ask us for money and sketchy-looking people were wandering aimlessly on the streets.

Locating the hotel, check-in, and parking was easy! One of the staff members walked me across washington street to the towers where my room was located. I enjoyed the Whirlpool except for Saturday night it was closed, I was in real need of the whirlpool due to a problem with my back! The front desk staff and the bar staff in the Tower very good, very people oriented! This was my second time staying in this hotel in the past 5 or 6 years, I would definitely stay again! Missing, complimentary breakfast and internet access for Silver Elite members, unless I am misinformed! Anyway, it kept me from doing work on my getaway weekend of football and fun!
Thank you!

Great hotel, reasonable price!
- FamilyTravel1902
- Nov 29, 2011
My family and I stayed here in Nov 2011 and the staff was friendly and helpful. Check in/check out was smooth and fast-- just the way I like it when I have a 5-year-old waiting. The cookie at check in was great for the kid. We got what I thought was a reasonable rate for a two queen room. The room itself was clean and had enough space for the family (no funny odors, weird stains, nor dirty sheets--- I have had at other hotels--gross!)
My major complaint is the road to the hotel is under construction currently and so getting into/out of the hotel parking lot was a bit challenging.

the hotel has excellent surrounding shopping and cafe life. There is every imaginable restaurant in the surrounding Central West End area. Safe location for single women travelers. Good location if you are heading to Barnes Hospital
The fitness center is wonderful.
The only criticism is that the suite I stayed in has not been renovated, and the bathroom was not as elegant as the rest of the suite. It was clean, but not totally updated.
A cool extra, a movie theatre on the ground floor .

We had each stayed here previously, several years ago, and the glamour has declined with the move toward the riverfront. It is still a very nice hotel, with an excellent, courteous staff. Everyone we dealt with (housekeeping, front desk, bell staff, doormen & valet staff) were charming, friendly & helpful. It's a good bargain, probably $150 cheaper than the Drury or any other hotel further east.
The only down side was the self-park lot; at $14/night, it is located to the rear of the hotel, with access to the front desk a very long walk with luggage. We could have unloaded at the entrance, but it was still a flight up to the desk. Definitely not for those whose ambulatory abilities are challenged. Street parking was available, but only because it was New Years; otherwise, there is 'no parking' on any of the nearby streets from 3AM to 6AM.
New Years activities nearby were plentiful; we watched animatronic Dick Clark in the hotel lobby, got drinks and chatted with the other survivors.

our experience was very pleasant. The hotel staff was exceptional. They recommended Pappy's barbaque, which I fully endorse and we were very close to the Arch, which was a must for our getaway, since my wife had never been. The valet's were very accomodating. The room was very large and spacious, but lacked a few amenities...no refrigerator is really all.
We also went to see the Blues/Hawks hockey game which was only 2 blocks away. Very convenient.

The hotel was not in the location we expected; it wasn't "downtown" with all other attractions. Yes, it was only about a 5-7 minute drive, but the area surrounding the hotel was rundown with old, vacated buildings. Very "dirty" looking. The walls were also paper thin. We heard everything from the room next to us. Other than that, our stay was really great hotel-wise. The TV was great, microwave and refrigerator were very convenient. The staff were wonderful and nice.

We were visiting friends and family and the zoo, and this hotel was perfect for us! The staff was super helpfull and crazy nice! The room was great with a sitting area, perfect for the kiddos. Breakfast was good as well, enough of an option for the whole family. And the best part: the showers had great pressure and the hot water lasted FOREVER! We are pretty picky about our hotels and can honestly say there are only 2 that we have stayed at in the last 5 years that we would stay at again, and this place is one of them :)

Good Value, Lackluster Customer Service

- Apr 11, 2011
The hotel room itself, was a great value. The couple of times that I needed to utilize that front desk staff were quite lacking. I had a problem with my key on the second day and had to get a replacement key. That key didn't work so I had to return to the front desk a second time to get a working key. Between the 2 front desk visits to fix my key, I was waiting for almost 20 minutes, with only 1 customer in front of me each time. The 2 free drinks nightly and the free full breakfast daily were good. Free Wi-Fi. Overall, I would recommend this hotel as a great value.

What a great Hotel!

This was probably one of the best hotels I've stayed at for the price. It was very well appointed, clean, updated, friendly staff, and great food from the resturant on-site. I even used the gym (which I rarely do) and it was all new and working properly.
I would recomend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay near the center of it all but not quite DT.

The staff was very courteous and professional. The valet service was A+ also. Bar and restaurant has excellent food and drink and a cool art deco vibe. There is a bowling alley less than a minute down the way and a entertainment venue also right next door. I think its in a great location right in the St Louis loop. Would definitely stay there again.

You Matter
-
Paul
- Jun 6, 2008
Although the accommodations were quite enjoyable, my stay at the Kirkwood Best Western was made special by the staff who expressed to me in a variety of ways 'You Matter'. For example, I was in St. Louis to do a training that was at a sight a few miles from the motel. On the first day of training, I used my suitcase to haul books and materials that would be given to the training participants. Returning to the motel that evening, I realized that I had forgotten my suitcase at the training sight and had nothing to pack my clothes in when I would leave the motel the next morning. I went to the front desk and asked the clerk if he had a box that I could use. He indicated that they didn't have a box but asked if a large garbage bag would work. It did. Helping travelers solve problems when they are on the road is an important opportunity for motel workers. The young man who helped me took his role as serving others in need seriously. He gave me more than a plastic garbage bag. He communicated 'You Matter'.

IT definitely met our needs and was what we expected. The hotel is not big and short-staffed in the evenings, but they do work as hard as possible to accomodate you within their limitations. As in any hotel, some staff members are nicer/more pleasant to deal with.

This is a great example of an old school Ritz hotel. The downstairs wood panelled "club"-like atmosphere is dark but well set up for a quiet drink or one-on-one meeting. No blaring TVs or music! There's a lot of old St Louis here, so you see guys who look like they've never been out without a sport coat.
The room was large and immaculate, nicely modern, with high quality bedding, TV, bathroom. The small balcony is a nice plus. Quiet. Located in a nice area with some good nearby restaurants.
Still expensive.

I have stayed at better hotels closer to the airport for about the same cost, give or take. Yes the walls are microscopically thin. The management sometimes seemed confused. Example: What is the license number on your car? The one in California? I flew in. We must have a plate number. From the taxi?
A week later I stayed In the Super 8 at KCI. Excellent.

I usually have to avoid the hilton due to their summer prices. Traveling is a lot sweeter when you get to stay at the Hilton. It is super close to the St. Louis Airport.
Staff is really well trained and come across genuine.

We were visiting Wash U, and we were about 20 minutes away. Although we would have preferred to be closer, this was fine. We never ran into any traffic problems.
The hotel was a wonderful value. The rooms were great - we never heard any sounds from the halls, and the beds were soooo comfortable. Great fitness center, although the pool was small.
We would definitely stay again. (I did not like having to pay for parking as a hotel guest.)
