Minneapolis Hotels

Minneapolis’ name is a patchwork of the Dakota word minne and the Ancient Greek word polis, a nod to the city's 22 natural lakes. The local jewels are the Chain of Lakes: Cedar, Isles, Calhoun, Harriet, Nokomis; each three or four miles around. Minneapolis’ excellent parks department maintains walking and biking paths around the lakes, offering residents a place to exercise or stroll. The Lake Harriet Bandshell is a popular summertime attraction, often featuring the renowned Minnesota Orchestra. Don't miss a ride on the restored trolley between Lakes Calhoun and Harriet operated by the Minnesota Streetcar Museum.

Downtown is the visual anchor featuring the high-rise suites, sporting events (Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins all play downtown), and nightclub scene. Covering most of an approximate seven-by-seven block region of central downtown, the Skyway is a series of public pedestrian spaces on the second floor of downtown buildings connected by enclosed bridges between buildings. It is possible to walk through most of downtown and never go outdoors, a real advantage during winter. Additionally, the Skyway allows you to bypass stoplights and quickly move through the city. If visiting downtown Minneapolis during the winter, using a parking deck or staying at a hotel on or very near the Skyway is worth the investment.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It is conveniently located downtown near many restaurants, including the Oceanaire, which was very nice. The hotel restaurant wasn't fantastic, though there is a decent wine selection. Staff was generally helpful and accommodating. The fitness center could use some work.

The hotel room was great, especially the living area with couches. Lots of room. The location was very close to everything too. The parking was not really explained to us by the staff. We were supposed to have our hotel key to get a discount on parking but we had left it in the room when we checked out. Breakfast was super expensive as they added on a 20% gratuity and the continental breakfast was $15 each. The waitress offered us juice but didn't tell us it cost extra and that was $5 extra per person.

I had been to the Marquette about 5 years ago and had a wonderful experience. When we decided to go to the Theater in December it was one of the first hotel's that came to mind. It was also listed on the Hennepin Theater Trust site. :) The hotel was clean, and the staff extremely pleasant. I spoke to Brian the evening before our stay confirming our reservation and inquiring about parking. Brian made sure we had good parking and a very nice room. I will most definately stay at the Marquette again.

What do you know, no person to take the voucher upon exit, only way to get out was to insert credit card!! had to wait in line at front desk an addl 10 minutes for a refund, tried to explain the story, and the staff member blamed the whole thing on the guy working the previous shift!! Take responsibility already!! Also, bathroom sink hadn't been cleaned from the guest before me. Gross!!

All staff members polite, willing to answer questions and professional. Room decor beautiful although lighting was sparse if one wanted to read a book. Bathroom was handsome and highly functional. Although the lobby bar is well designed the bar food was a complete loser. Smelly tuna tartar, cheap tasting chips. We ordered four items and each was was left on the plate after one taste. Good valet service and room service was good.

As always, very pleased with my accomodations. And delighted to discover this time that the hotel's breakfast facility had doubled in space, was attractively remodeled, and offered a wider range of options. BRAVO! I am disappointed, however, with what apparently is the new policy of "doubling" rates on weekends when a UofM football game is scheduled in the brand new stadium adjacent to the hotel property.

Well, the hotel is good...the efficiency of the staffs, their friendliness, helpfullness, etc, are all examplary of american effciency. Everything when smooth and easy, and we had been happy to tip them for their transportations etc. One thing though, I wish some of the staffs smile more readily at times, to make us feel at home for our 2 weeks there. The breakfast should improve, however; there have been only carbohydrate/butter/coffee and drinks only, plus simple fruits....none of meat and eggs and all remain the same variety in our stays, which is a disappointment. In short, it was a nice stay.

Everything was great. Nice accommodations. The only issue that set me off at the very beginning was during check in at the front desk, the man helping me 'rolled his eyes at me' while I was trying to talk to him. Totally inappropriate and unprofessional. I called him on it and he did straighten out. Not a good way to start a nice holiday weekend but all in all, the hotel was fantastic! Thank you.

exceeded expectations!!

This was hands down one of the nicest hotels that I have stayed in, and I have stayed in some of the best. The room was very nice, great bed, good size bathtub, and nice seperate shower. The only thing missing was a stero/radio/singing parrot?? something to listen to other than the television. The location is great, near all things downtown Minneapolis. Would reccommend the parking ramp across the street to save half the cost of valet. The staff was incredibly helpful and professional. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!

This is a beautiful hotel in a terrific central location. On checkout, however, they tried to bill me again [...]. Also, when I checked in they asked for a credit card for "incidental" charges -- fair enough, but they sought to put a hold my credit card for over $500, which amounted to more than my pre-paid room charge. I was told the hold should have been $200, which I still think is excessive on a pre-paid stay.

A good place to spend a night

  • chi93
  • Dec 30, 2011
My wife and I traveled for leisure between Christmas and New Year's. There was a special at this hotel that we took advantage of. The hotel staff was super helpful. We received a free upgrade to be able to use a microwave and a refrigerator. So the overall value was unbeatable. The room was very clean. The bathroom was in perfect repair. The only problem was a broken closet door, which they said they would fix when we left. We used their fitness facility (5 basic cardio machines), the swimming pool, and the whirlpool. They don't provide complimentary breakfast, but you can order from their restaurant, which we didn't. The location is in an industrial zone, so you cannot walk anywhere. If you drive or are there for business, then this place is fine. You can get to downtown St Paul or Minneapolis in 10-15 min.

Room: Great! Wifi horrible, annoying high pitched sound

  • Mr 3D
  • Oct 11, 2011
I liked the room a lot - even though the room I was staying in had only 2 tiny windows! The breakfast was the Marriott residence style - good! However.. The wifi with 31kbps was so slow that my notebook crashed twice on me. Was on the line with a remote technician for about an hour and the speed did 'improve' to 62kbps (felt like 15 years ago). The connection to the hotspot was good and the hotel lobby showed the same speed. Tried the wired connection as well but that didn't work at all. I turned off the noisy AC over night - and instead I got a high pitched noise on and off the whole night. Needless to say that I didn't sleep much that night. First night there was not shampoo.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times a year for the past 6 years - through a change in ownership. It appears that new ownership is making the necessary improvements. Staff, particularly at the front desk is great, as is the hotel lounge/restaurant. The location is a gold mine - guests usually pay a premium for the location. The amenities and staff are beginning to live up to the hotel prices.
