We loved staying at The Inn on Ferry Street! The houses were gorgeous, and decorated so nicely for Christmas. The location in mid-town was perfect. We felt safe walking in the neighborhood, and we were very close to many wonderful museums. Take advantage of the free van ride within 5 miles of the hotel. No worries about parking that way, or getting lost in an unfamiliar city. The staff were all courteous and extremely helpful. Breakfasts were delicious and Starbucks coffee was available 24/7 without charge. Bath not large.

affordable clean accomodation, but TERRIBLE location

I just got back from my trip to Detroit and I had stayed at Hotel St. Regis for 1 night. Thankfully it was just one night. The hotel is quite an old architecture and is located in a neighborhood that appears to be quite shady. I arrived on a Sunday and found the neighborhood to be deserted. Although the hotel is located not very far from Downtown, I was terribly disappointed to know that there was only one eatery across the street. I went around the block trying to look for a decent place to eat or order my food from, but found it hard to believe that near a bug hotel like that, there was one fast food store (Happy pizza) and a Chinese take out place. None of them seemed to be decent places to eat. I saw plenty of suspicious looking people walking around (people who looked like they had doped and drunk for days). Gleefully, the city Police Department is a block away. The only saving grace was a CVS phramacy from where I ended up getting chips and soda for lunch. The hotel menu is terrible. As far as the rooms are concerned, they were clean, beds were comfortable. I am saying beds because in the room I was initially assigned, the conditioner started making a noise and I could not sleep further. So I called the front desk person who told me that he would send someone to my room. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I went downstairs to ask if someting could be done about it. I was surprised when her said "Is it still making noise?" and I thought to myself, "You said you'd send somebody and now you expect the conditioner to get fixed by itself?" Then he quickly assigned me to another room and called someone to accompany me to the room to make sure everything in the room was OK. The other room was alright, but I was surprised that not a single word of apology was mentioned for the inconvenience caused. The hotel looked desserted and at night in the lobby (when I went down to report the conditioner making noise), I heard the sound of glass being shattered (as if someone was repeatedly banging a heavy glass object with a hammer) at 2-3 minute intervals from the "private party room" the whole time I waited in the lobby. There were no lights on in that room. The front desk person went inside the room and brought back someone else with him and that person quietly went and sent down in the lobby waiting area. It felt a little strange! 2 positive things: They let me check in earlier than the hotel check in time and check out a little after the check out time. Hence I give a 3-star rating. Bottom line: Plus - Clean rooms and spacious bath rooms; Minus - Old building, malfunctioning/non-functioning gadgets in rooms, poor location with very shady activities in and around the premises, poor options for dining, personnel can improve on courtesy

It was so awful that i'd rather not relive the experience by describing it. The Front Desk & Beverage Managers were teriffic and resolute.

Description
From every angle, a unique, conveniently located downtown Detroit hotel The Milner, built in 1917 as the Henry Clay Hotel, is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Detroit. Earle Milner acquired the property partly because of its unique triangular "Flat Iron" style architecture. Milner also was attracted by the property's great location in the heart of Detroit, which remains an asset. The Milner's clean, affordable rooms offer attractive amenities such as free Internet access and a complimentary continental breakfast. Highlights Classic, centrally located hotel in the heart of downtown Detroit, within easy reach of major destinationsFree high-speed Internet accessComplimentary continental breakfastAccess to nearby YMCA fitness center and swimming pool Rooms Guests enjoy clean, comfortable guest rooms with attractive amenities, including free high-speed Internet, cable television, coffee maker, and iron with ironing board. A mini-fridge and microwave are available upon request. One-bedroom suites include a full kitchen with stove, microwave, and full-sized refrigerator. Features Guests appreciate that the Milner is only steps from Comerica Park, Ford Field, major theaters and concert halls, and numerous restaurants and nightclubs. The hotel is also convenient to the Joe Louis Arena, Cobo Convention Center, Renaissance Center, and Greektown Casino.   The adage "a bed and a bath for a buck and a half" -- popularized by Milner Hotels in the early 20th century – is now part of history. The Milner's current president, E. Ronald Milner, however, continues his father Earle's commitment to provide clean and comfortable accommodations at affordable rates. The room was clean and the location was nice but we did not have any heat in our room and it was freezing in there; we asked twice about it and was told that we would have heat soon but we never did. Also, when we checked in the clerk did not look to see that we had booked through Orbitz then charged me again for the room. He said he had to get his manager to fix it; I checked the next morning and was told I was all set but I'm still waiting to see if I was charged twice.

This hotel is in a great location, very affordable, and is fine if you just need a place to sleep for a night while doing something in Detroit. The room has no bells or whistles. A bit grungy, my room had a kitchenette with cupboards, stove and plates etc...however it did not have a fridge. The hotel has no parking but there is metered parking on the street and a parking garage across the street for the Opera House can be used for 5 dollars. Overall a bit dirty but very affordable and centrally located. Close to ballpark and football stadium, Greektown, Fox etc...

the renovation of such a grand place is always wonderful. the room was clean. the desk was friendly at check in/out. there was no one available to help with luggage and had to unload & load and climb a flight of stairs to get to the check in desk. then had to carry everything to the elevator and then to the room which was far from the elevator.. NOT COOL as there is no A/C in the hallways only in the rooms. the view is beautiful but the windows are 4 feet from the floor so you can only see out if you stand at the windows. had to unplug lamps to plug in computer & phone chargers. becauase we were doing business with tthe coast gurard 2 blocks away we stayed here, otherwise would never return to that part of detroit.

Since it's in the heart of Detroit, you can't get a better connected hotel. The staff was friendly and able to help with every question I had. My only qualm is that you have to pay for internet connections. Many other hotels nearby off free internet connections and/or WiFi.

This place was an absolute pit; the worst hotel experience I've had in a lifetime (I'm 55). I wanted to get my last 2 nights of the 3 refunded, and the hotel refused to give me a refund. There was whooping-it-up partying the entire night on Friday, and the amorous "hourly" customers on Saturday night were quieter, but kept us awake in a different way all the same. An absolute pit that should be closed down, and makes me nervous about ever booking with Orbitz again.

This is a motel not more than 5 feet from a nude bar. While attempting to check in, there were lots of thugs in and out and around the motel. I requested a room right off of the parkinglot because of the area. When I went out to go to the room, there were people drinking and smoking right out front. There were men and women coming from the bar into the rooms. I immediately went back in and cancelled the room. This is a very scary place.
