Great location across the train station

  • jaguz
  • Oct 30, 2011
The hotel is well located across the train station and close to restaurants and groceries stores. My room had small kitchen with a refrigerator and a microwave making quick meals easy. The room was large and comfortable but quite a distance from the elevator. Front desk was very helpful in making arrangements for very early transportation to the airport. If in the area, I will stay again

What a wonderful location! Right across from a T stop, and within walking distance of restaurants and JFK's birthplace. The staff could not have been more gracious. Unfortunately, this hotel is dreary inside. The design of the hotel consists of a two-story atrium, with rooms facing both inside and out. The entire interior is windowless, lightless, designed with walkways through garden planters filled with forlorn faux flowers. We had a very small room looking inward, and so had no access to outside sunlight. The lighting (lamps) in the room was inadequate as well. The bathroom was small and had no fan. Nor was there room to hang towels to dry. We spent as little time in the hotel as possible. If we were to choose this hotel again (which is unlikely) we would reserve an outside-facing room.

Description
The Bertram Inn offers the opportunity to step back into another era. Built in 1907, The Bertram Inn was originally constructed as a private residence for a wealthy Boston merchant. The present owner, Bryan Austin, has not only restored the house, but also established a collection of period antiques showcased in each room. He and his wife have restored each room to a balance of atmosphere and comfort. In the morning the living room becomes a cheerful breakfast room where a hearty continental breakfast is served in front of a crackling fire. After a busy day this cozy retreat provides a place where guests can relax and treat themselves to complimentary afternoon tea. We are located on a quiet street in Brookline just 15 minutes from Boston center via public transportation, and a few minutes walk from a variety of shops and restaurants. Located two miles from BOS-Boston

We were impressed by the size and decor of the house. Our room was quite small (the fire escape map showed we had the smallest room in the building), but it was large enough for our needs. Be aware that at least one of the rooms does NOT have its own adjoining bathroom. The staff/owners do not seem to live on the premises, so it feels more like a hotel than other B&Bs. Breakfast was served buffet-style with a selection of baked goods, fruits, and some sort of poached egg dish (the eggs had been sitting for too long, so the yolks were dry and overcooked). The house was only a couple of blocks from the green line and within walking distance to Commonwealth.

Decent lodging for what we needed

Vintage lodging. Clean room, but the old cast iron radiator was set way too high the first night. Difficult to sleep when the temperature is so high. Second night was much better, more comfortable sleeping. Location was great for what we needed, we could walk to dining locations with ease. Would not hesitate to stay again.

Ignore the Bad Reviews!!

Checked in late evening. Friendly staff. Large comfortable well-lit 1st floor room (Sam Adams room). Clean crisp sheets, hardwood floors shining, large bath with hot hot water + decent pressure. Stayed New Years' weekend and place was mostly quiet. Rooms well insulated to sound. Especially liked how room and hotel didn't smell of any old stale cigarette smoke. Location is fantastic. Price is amazing. I booked late in the game before i read all the bad reviews and was nervous. After my stay i have no idea why the bad reviews. I spoke to another guest who also didn't understand the bad reviews.

Very nice facility, It would have been better if there were an elevator to the third floor. Stairs are steep narrow and curved to the third floor. Other then that it was a very enjoyable stay.
