Wonderful Bed and Breakfast

  • Anonymous
  • Jun 27, 2011
My husband and I had a great 4 days in New Orleans. The B & B was great, the breakfast was awesome and the owners,[...] were easy going and very helpful. You get a complimentary bev. when you come and there are always baked goods around. We were sorry we missed the Fri./Sat. social time but I guess we'll have to come back! We went on a Plantation tour run by Isabella tours (recommended by [...]). They picked us up right at the front door and we also went on Dr. Wagnor's Honey Island Swamp Tour. That was Great! The B&B is located near the garden district so we walked to the restaurants at night since my husband didn't feel like driving.

I really love the bed and breakfast. The houses were lovely and the couple was extremely nice. I loved my breakfast and other treats. Although for people who want to party in the French Quarter all night, the location is not ideal.

Description
Taste a little history without spending a fortune! Nestled in the ancient oaks of Esplanade Avenue, our 1840's townhouse makes the perfect spot to begin and end your days of French Quarter discovery." Somehow, a shiny new hotel doesn't seem quite right for New Orleans. More appropriate is slightly faded, somewhat threadbare elegance, and the Lamothe House fits the bill. The Creole style plain facade of the 1840's townhouse hides the atmosphere you are looking for - a mossy, stone-lined courtyard with a fish-filled fountain, banana trees and rooms filled with antiques that are worn in all the right places, but not shabby. It's a short walk to the action in the Quarter and just a couple of blocks to the bustling Frenchman scene. "On a steamy night, sitting in the courtyard breathing the fresh air, your can feel yourself slip out of time," - Frommer's Guide Enjoy original Victorian antiques, a lush courtyard with fish pond and pool. Louisiana-roast coffee and a selection of teas are available day and night.

Charming hotel in ideal Location

  • Carie123
  • Nov 20, 2012
We booked the Lamothe House based on reviews here and it being only one of three places with rooms available in our budget range near the French Quarter. Glad we did! The Lamothe House is just a block away from French Street, which is, as the proprieter put it, "Burbon street for locals". It's where the party at, not the crazy drunk tourist vomiting up oysters and daquiris outside the strip club party of Burbon Street, but the live music, bar-hopping, street fair, authentic party of French Street. And despite the proximity to fun, our unit was pretty quiet. The "Deluxe King Room" we booked was not available when we showed up (presumably because the whole place was undergoing major renovations when we were there), but they put us in a double queen room in the back apartment unit which was newly redone with brand new furniture (and paint, so it smelled a bit). It didn't have quite the antique charm of the pictures of the hotel, but the rooms were elegantly decorated with very high ceilings and very comfortable beds. The pool (with jacuzzi) is beautiful in an interior garden courtyard of the main building. The main building is original French Quarter, very beautiful. All in all it's a beautiful and charming place in the ideal location.

We enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel exudes charm and character. This is not a five-star modern resort, but we knew that going into it. We wanted to experience a bit of "Old New Orleans" and this hotel provided just that.

My husband and I are originally from New Orleans and have never stayed at Le Pavillon when going back to visit. The staff was wonderful and the friendly New Orleans people that we miss. Everything was perfect except the room had a "musty" odor. The beds were comfortable and the room was very large. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it was great. They had Community Coffee in large coffee cups and plenty to eat at the buffet. We will go back.

Great hotel

Only 2 small complaints to an otherwise excellent hotel. 1 - the pocket door to the bathroom was very hard to slide and rather noisy. 2 - it would have been nice to have a mini frig in the room. Other than that the room was clean and comfortable, the location was perfect (pretty much in the middle of the French quarter but amazingly quiet), and the staff were all friendly.

Excellent chic hotel

Stayed here during a recent visit to N.O. We had never been to N.O. and after researching hotels in the area, Hotel Le Marais seemed like the best choice. It's close enough to Burbon Street, but far enough away to not be overwhelmed by that area. The hotel is also within walking distance of great shopping. Walking in at night, the purple light will throw you off at first. Your eyes will need to adjust. Anyway, the hotel is very clean, the staff was very friendly and accomadating and helpful. Security is excellent. You will need your pass key to access the room, the elevator and stairs. There are also security cameras everywhere. This is a small hotel, so there are only four floors and the space here is used very well. We stayed on the third floor with a view of the courtyard/pool area. The room was very clean and had a 40" flat panel t.v., very comfortable beds and pillows. The only complaint about the room was the shower. It's very small and there is not a lot of water pressure. Maid service was very good at keeping the room in order. Every morning there was a continental breakfast of eggs, sausage, bacon, bagels, muffins, toast, jellys, juice, coffees, teas, and yogurts. This hotel also has a heated pool in a really nice patio area. There is also a business area with two p.c.'s and a printer. The bar area is nice if not a little small. At check in, you will receive a drink pass for the bar...nice touch. Overall, no complaints. If I went back to N.O. I would stay here again.

Great place, poor organization

  • Tres
  • Nov 8, 2011
The hotel is super, our suite was very comfortable but... Our room was not ready until 6:00PM. Later the front desk gave a very drunk couple a key to our room in the middle of the night then called to ask I if I was a guest in to the hotel! Once I told him my name, he said, "oh yes, there you are in the system, that is your room!" Really? You give a drunk a key to my room in the middle of the night then call up to challenge why I am in MY room. I could have forgiven this but the front desk clerk did not even offer an apology for giving out a key to my room; instead he called to challenge why I was in the room. On the whole the staff was friendly but they could use some organizational training (and this was not an event weekend).

Would highly recommend Bienville House Hotel, Decatur St, New Orleans. The location, 3 blocks off Canal St, in the French Quarter, is ideal for restaurants, shopping, etc. Decatur is a busy street but we heard no street noise in the room. Good continental breakfast in morning. Friendly staff.

When we checked in we found the standard room we had reserved to be without any windows making it dark and stuffy. The desk clerk indicated no other rooms were available at the time but if we would go have lunch and come back in 2 hrs she would have another room available. The new room was very nice and well worth the $25 a day additional charge. The location in the French Quarter was close to everything without being too noisy, a plus for us. The staff was very nice and did their best to assure a pleasant stay.

Great view, location, staff. But....renovations in the whole downstairs area were VERY obnoxious both in smell, sound and convenience. Was disappointed that no mention was made of this and also no allowances or perks give for putting up with it. I was on the 16th floor and could still hear and feel the drilling!

Girls birthday trip to NOLA!

  • Vixxxen
  • Aug 20, 2012
First of all, the weekend we were visiting there were 35,000 Lutheran children visting for a convention they do every 3 years. We had 2 rooms reserved for July 19th-July 23rd. Both of the rooms were supposed to have 2 queen beds with the possibility of a roll-about bed for our 5th & 6th guests. When we arrived to check in they said they didn't have rooms with those options because of the convention. We got 1 room with a king size bed and another with 2 double beds. Luckily our 6th person cancelled last minute so 2 of us were stuck with the king size bed and the other 3 of us got stuck with the double beds. The birthday girl had been to New Orleans 5 times before and just loves this hotel. The front desk manager was very kind to give us a bar credit and comp our hotel breakfasts for the inconveinence of our room mix up. Besides the hotel mix up, everything was flawless with our visit. We could walk to the French Quarter, the Riverwalk shopping mall and to the St. Charles trolley cars. We met the friendliest bartender in the hotel restaurant "rene". Laura gave us 5-star service throughout our stay. She gave us lots of helpful information on sights to see and recommendations for meals at some of her favorite restaurants... all which we loved. The chef at the hotel "rene" was such a delight. I guess it's been under a year since the restaurant opened but the food was beyond compare. From the smoked garlic soup with a poached farm egg & truffle oil to the charcuterie platter...the menu was incredible!!! We went to Acme Oyster House for dinner Thursday. We got stuck at W.I.N.O. Friday for most of the day during the terential rains and tried wines from all over the world! Friday night we went to Louisianna Crab Shack on the Mississippi river. Saturday we went to Delashaise on St. Charles (which was one of Laura's recommendations) where we had the infamous "Shrimp Po-Boy", a grilled cheese cooked with apple butter and house fries cooked in goose fat... all heavenly. Saturday night was the big birthday dinner at Borgne (which I saw in my June issue of Bon Appetit). There was an article about the up coming BON APPETIT GRUB CRAWL in NOLA. The executive chef Brian Landry is amazing!!! The restaurant was by far 5 stars and had some of the best food we've ever tasted! The oyster spaghetti was outstanding! & The hazelnut cream pudding was delicious!!! We would recommend it to anyone! Sunday was our last day there. We went on a swamp tour with. It was mind blowing! I'm so glad we got the opportunity to see alligators up close! We also got a ton of history about the swamps and bayous of the state and how the alligator populations have increased since they're worth money and people do like to eat them. Lastly, we shopped at the Frenchman's Market to buy souveniers. We walked all around Jackson square and eventually made it back to our hotel for dinner... Overall, the trip was just amazing and we all can't wait to go back again next summer. We will be staying at the Art Renaissance hotel again for sure! It's such a beautiful hotel and the staff was just so wonderful to us. I believe I'll be staying a week because there's just so much to see in only 4 days. I hope this feed back is helpful to you for future recommendations on bookings. Thank you.

Located approximately 10 minutes walk from the French Quarter, with some good bars and restaurants in and around the hotel. The lobby artwork is very impressive, with a bright and airy atmosphere. We received an indoor room, it would have been nice to have a view outside. We were also given a room with two doubles, I asked for a king size bed but none were available. The reception staff were helpful when arranging a day trip to the plantation. The gym was of good quality, great views from the pool, but this was fairly crowded in the evening. Would definetely stay here again.

The Westin had a great location and an even better view. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. We decided on the River view was was not let down. Amazing view of new orleans. The only complaint was that the bathtub was not that big, (was looking for a garden tub). Also there wasnt a hottub in the pool area. The pool is heated and has an amazing view of the entire city on the 29th top floor though. They are doing construction so we heard lots of noise around 8:30 am but I assume that wont last forever and we were already up so it didnt bother us. Overall, very clean and nice, would probably stay there again in the summer (b/c of the pool, but if winter, Id opt for a place with a hot tub).

Nice location - price just right

This is a decent hotel with a great location. easy to walk to all places in the french quarter. We had a good time there and would come back to it. Few things - there is no elevator to the swimming pool/rooftop. you must go up a narrow staircase in order to get to there. I just don't see elderly folks making it up there safely.... You need to switch elevators once, on the 11th floor, to go to your room. This is slightly annoying but you get used to it after a while. In spite of the above I would still recommend this hotel.

This was a great find. We visit New Orleans once or twice a year and stay a various places. If you want to avoid the French Quarter this is a good location for getting around. The rooms all recently redone. Nice bathrooms/showers though small. Refrigerator and microwave all new and clean. Strongly recommend just remember this is not a hotel so no daily maid service but replacement towels available at front desk. Courtyard very nice for relaxing.

Stayed here for Labor Day weekend. Location is excellent as it's really close to everything but you're not smack bang in the middle of all the noise. Breakfast was good, rooms were fine, fridge came in handy. Bathroom a little on the small side, but fine. I'd stay here again, great value in an amazing city. Enjoy!

I was impressed by the service and friendly staff this was first time my friend had stayed at a 4 star hotel and he was truly impressed. I've stayed at the Waldorf in NYC, and this was by far superior. I think the 40.00 parking rate is a little steep, for outdoor parking. The view from our room was not great but OK, but again it was the service, I like to feel pampered on vacation and the staff accomplished that! From the front desk to the pool staff to each Bellman, all of their suggestions and recommendations were spot on

Excellent location near WWII Museum and easy access to bus/street car. Great dining near by whether Zea's , Emeril Demonico or Voodoo BBQ. The staff is great and rooms are okay if a bit dated and on small side.

Very nice French Quarter hotel

  • Shoediva50
  • Nov 6, 2012
The Hotel Mazarin is a boutique hotel in the French Quarter that is half a block from Bourbon street. We had two rooms, a double the opened to the courtyard that was spacious, and a petit king that was in the "quieter" section. We were on the third floor but had to take the elevator to the 2nd floor and then walk up a flight of stairs. This room was tiny, barely wider than the king sized bed. One side had no bed side table. It was ok because we didn't spend much time in the room, but it WAS one of the smallest rooms I've ever stayed in. The rooms were clean with comfortable beds and duvets and plenty of pillows. The towels were plentiful and soft. The bathroom was small as well in both rooms. Single sink and narrow ledge that really wasn't adequate for all my toiletries. Our key cards kept deactivating. I asked for a rollaway for the double room and was told two days in a row one was not available because they were so full. On the third day I was told they don't have rollaways. They have an included breakfast that was basic, but a nice option. All the staff was very friendly. I would consider staying here again, but I'd get a larger room.

Fantastic French Quarter location

  • JXWeekender
  • Dec 24, 2012
Have made many trips to New Orleans, all for weekend getaways or to attend certain music festivals that N.O. have. First time in this hotel. Very enjoyable experience. Very quaint, small hotel. Rooms are small but updated and clean. This the best way to enjoy the French Quarter. We lived in N.O. many years ago and continue to come back. Only to minor negatives. Still no elevator, but not really a problem. No bath tub (wife loves her bath tub) and no provision for parking by the hotel; you have to find your own. There is Central Parking Co. lot next door where you can park overnight for $35 if a place is available. The location cannot be beaten. Two blocks from Jackson Square. We loved it.

Short but nice stay

  • World and NOLA traveler
  • Sep 5, 2012
Grabbed a last minute one-night stay at an incredible price. The location was outstanding (although parking predictably expensive) and the feel of the place was classy/very New Orleans French Quarter. The room I reserved (petit queen) was European in size and truly wouldn't have been comfortable for 2 ... having said this, I knew what I was getting into before I booked it and found it very comfortable. The room and floor I was on was in need of "refreshing." I was told by the bartender that the hotel was in the process of renovating floor-by-floor, which is good to know. The bathrooms are typical of an old hotel - and part of the experience ... not much counter-space in this room - but again part of the package if you want the French Quarter feel (I'm sure there are exceptions but not at this price and with this level of class!).

Romantic hotel just far enough from Bourbon Street

  • Park Slope Mum
  • Jun 26, 2012
I was looking for a hotel for my husband and I to stay at for a quick trip to New Orleans and this was the perfect choice. It is a beautiful hotel, great rooms, great pool. We did not eat here, so I cannot comment on the food. The location was ideal for us - right in the French Quarter but far enough away from the chaos of Bourbon Street.
