Though architecturally more akin to your standard interstate motel, the O'Keefe Plaza is situated near but not adjacent to pretty much all the major destinations in New Orleans. This makes it a good choice for trips with multiple purposes.
Going to a conference but want to visit the WWII Museum and the French Quarter? Perfect. This place is cheap and within walking distance of all three, not to mention the CBD, Superdome, and the trolley line into the Garden District. (Though the hippest part of the city--Frenchmen St to Bywater--is on the far side of the French Quarter, which is a fair but doable walk.)
The Convention Center, our main destination, is not super close, but we valued the proximity to the Quarter (only about 5 blocks) and the museum. If you're only going for one purpose, you can find closer, and certainly nicer, but maybe not cheaper.
The surrounding neighborhood is essentially skyscrapers and parking garages of the Central Business District; busy in the day but fairly deserted at night. We felt comfortable enough walking through it at night a number of times (better than Canal St, in my opinion) but some people might be put off.
The hotel itself gives off a bit of a bad-neighborhood vibe, with all sorts of odd signs and restrictions, though the fabric of the place itself is nice enough, and we never encountered any problems.
The staff is, well, minimal. Be prepared to wait for help at the front desk, because there will be only one person working an apparently none-too-streamlined system. The staff doesn't have a hospitality-industry attitude--more like a DMV one. But they get the job done eventually. This is perhaps the price for the low cost of lodging.
Our room was minimal and smallish, but clean and acceptable. A few things weren't in the best repair, but nothing serious. The bathroom is about 10 square feet, and almost European-feeling in its compactness. I did not object, but it is unusual.
The hotel does have its own (limited) parking lot, with rates (unlike other hotels in the area) as good or better than public parking. This is quite a nice feature of this hotel.
If you value the hotel experience, maybe not the best place--and you'll need to pay for the upgrade. If you just want a decent place to sleep in a good place for a good price, it's a good pick. I'd go back under the same circumstances--and probably will.

I always stay at the St. Peter House every time I go to NOLA, but I am practically a local. If you are from out of town and experiencing New Orleans for the first time, this place will not be for you.
It has a charm all its own. The staff is pretty aloof, but has always been helpful. The location is great! The rooms are not the nicest, but if you are truly enjoying New Orleans, you are never in the hotel anyway. If its your first visit, pick somewhere else cause you will hate it. But if you frequent New Orleans and are looking for a good value for your stay, you will love it.

we stayed at the wyndham garden baronne plaza hotel for one night after debarking from a cruise. the hotel is one very short block from bourban street. so once we checked in we just walked over to the french quarter and watched a parade and ate dinner. we did not use any of the amenities so i did not rate them. i paid for valet parking but the valet made my husband park our vehicle and retrieve it (the parking garage is right next to the hotel)the parking was an additional $20. no one helped us unload our suitcases from our vehicle. the hotel room was very nice. it had a flat screen t.v. and was nicely appointed. the hotel lobby is also very attractive. i would stay here again just for the location and the room.

Rooms were good size, clean and with the standard amenities, , beds comfortable, staff courteous. Some rooms do not have outside windows, but open to the inside court. It appears that this was built as a shopping mall, then converted to a hotel.

The hotel was as picture on their website. Nothing outstanding about it. It was conveniently located in the Central Buisness Disrtict, about two blocks from Harrahs, 2 blocks from the French Quarter and 2 blocks from a couple of Trolly lines. There was no refreigerator in the room. The hotel coffee was good. I never went to the restaraunt. For what I needed it for, (a place to pass out and shower) it was more than adequate.

The front desk guy was rude because he said he couldnt find my reservation. He was like thats what happens when you book on the same day. I told him excuse me but I booked this 2 weeks ago. Then my room a/c didnt work. So I had to get another room. The lighting in this placed sucked. I understand that the building is very old but they can still do some updates. The remote to the tv had tape on the back of it. The only good thing about this hotel is that the location is awesome close to everything.

Hotel is in the heart of French Quarter in NO and conveniently located for enjoying the city, food site seeing. The only problem was that the hotel initially refused to honor the inclusion of breakfast in the paid room rate. We had to fight for it and they approved after contacting the travel agency. We had to show the proof that travel agency had given us that deal with inclusion of breakfast. Restaurant staff was very courteous and food quality was very good. They tried to give us the room right near the service elevator which we refused. The construction was supposed to be over but was still going on.

The room was nice although overstocked with very expensive bottled water, snacks and alcohol - it was unnecessary because you're located in the heart of everything.
It is worth mentioning that the staff is fantastic - they were extremely helpful with the suggestions and very polite.

perfect location, it´s a short walk to french quarter and bourbon street and everything else.
The room was clean and had a very comfortable king-bed!! (you sleep like in heaven!)
It was a little bit loud in the night, however it was possible to have a wonderful sleep.
We stayed 2 nights over the new years day and therefore it was more expensive ($240/night including $30 for parking per day and $5 for wifi per day).
But nevertheless a great stay and very friendly staff who gave a lot of tips!

we were put in a suite, I'm pretty sure thats not what we paid for, it was well decorated with great furniture and very comfortable. The room was dated - old TV, fridgem fixtures, and generally in moderate repair, though the marble bathroom with old brass fixtures was very pretty. Overall, I would describe this as an old great hotel that needs some updating, but with a spacious room, was a great deal.

My stay in New Orleans was great, but my room was not, with all the extra fees and taxes, which is added to the cost of the room. The Pelham does not provide parking other them parking your car in the hotel parking lot down the street for 30.00 a night. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room we had was awful. The window and curtains had fresh blood on them. The fixtures in the bathroom was rusty and molding. The water pressure was a joke. The wall paper was peeling off. Never ate in there restaurant, there is not breakfast with the room, and if you want coffee they have a pot for the entire hotel in the lobby.

Attended DAV Convention in another hotel, which had been booked up. I actually think that I lucked out, since I got a better rate, the accommodations were excellent, and it was only a short walk to the convention. Although the hotel is in an historic building, the interior was new and modern and couldn't have been better.

I love the location of this hotel, especially having Drago's in it..best charbroiled oysters. I do HATE how this hotel nickle and dimes everything from $12.50 for a day of internet, to $30/night to park your car. There's not even water bottles in the room, and trust me, you always ask if it's okay to drink the tap water in New Orleans. It really disappoints me with such a great hotel that they act sooo cheap.

Everything was great with the exception of our experience at check in. We arrived early so they did not have a room ready. They told me they would call me when they had a room ready. We walked around town for a few hours and returned at 3, which was our check in time. They still didnt have a room ready for us. I returned to the counter at 3:30, this time they had a room. For some reason, they never called me when this room was ready.

Great Place to stay In NOLA
-
Kleckel
- Feb 2, 2012
When we pulled up to the hotel, I was really excited to see the charm of Hotel St. Marie. It had oil lanterns and ferns that ran the length of the building. The entrance and lobby were beautiful as well. Absolutely great location!! It is close enough to walk anywhere in New Orleans, but still removed enough (one block over) from Bourbon Street to get some sleep and stay away from the chaos. Staff was knowledgable and friendly, greeted us every time they saw us and asked if we were enjoying our time. Rooms were fairly standard. We got the balcony which overlooked the beautiful patio and pool area. Showers were a bit tempermental with heat, but seemed to improve the longer we were there. Cleaning staff was prompt daily and helpful. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend Hotel St. Marie to friends/family.

I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. I was a little weary getting a hotel that was not centered around Bourbon street or the french quarter; however, I just could not afford those prices. The staff at this hotel was absolutely fantastic. They called cabs for us and gave us directions on how to get to some places around the city. The cab ride to the free ferry (ferry takes you to canal st.; close to bourbon st and the french quarter) is about $8.00. You would pay that there and back. There is parking by the ferry for about $10 for the whole day though. If you want to go from the hotel to downtown there is a strict $15-$20 fee each way. Overall though very nice cab drivers either way you decide. We did pretty much everything. Back on the hotel ... the beds were very comfortable and the room was equipped with a nice microwave, dishes, small fridge, etc. They make sure to come by every day to clean your room. They were very kind not to touch our personal belongings but cleaned the place spotless. Overall I can not say enough good things about this place. No there is no pool BUT its NEW ORLEANS BABY :) For the famalies :) ... safe neighborhood its within in old navy base. I would say this is a MUST STAY in NOLA.

I can't say enough about the great location of this hotel. It puts you right in the action and in the heart of the French Quarter experience. We were in short walking distance to all the great sites of New Orleans. Very easy access to all major venues such as the Super Dome. Easy in, easy out. Good staff. The only negative I have is that our room was not set up with new towels, shampoo and other needs on the second day. However, I will stay at this location again.

simple but ok.

The hotel changed it´s name, so it was not to find at the first attempt. But there was a friendly staff waiting outside to catch the guests who got astray.
The first View was quite nice - a small and personally looking hotel. Staff at the reception was also extraordinary friendly. The Hotel seemed to be under new and young management here and there on the floors not finished but quite clean.
10 Minutes walk to Burbon Street was ok for me.
The Room was also ok, comfortable king size bed, but had only a small window. My grade of room comfort is caused by a noisy maschine which startes running outside somewhere on the floor every few minutes. In total it is a quite good Hotel if you don´t need special luxury. But in case of the comfort the rate was little to high.

Hotel was under construction when I was there. No room service. Room was comfortable and freshly painted. Not a lavish hotel by far, but a nice place to stay.
