During our Kauai vacation my wife and I spent 3 nights at a resort in Poipu, and then 2 nights at the St. Regis. The views from the hotel are hard to match anywhere, overlooking Hanalei Bay, surrounded by lush mountains. The staff was extremely professional and pleasant and our stay was good overall. However, not sure how great of a value it was considering the cost. Breakfast and other resort dining was all pricey. Also, at least the week we were there, the resort and especially the pool area seemed crowded, which is great for business, of course, but not ideal if you seek peace, quiet, and relaxation during your vacation. Lastly, we arrived right at check-in time, 3pm, but had to wait until 4.30 until our room was ready for us.

Gorgeous place - not so convenient if you're doing a lot of activities

This resort is gorgeous right from the entrance. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and the rooms were very very clean. The pool is spectacular and there are other pools and hot tubs away from the main pool if you are looking for a quiet atmosphere. The restaurant and pool bar don't have the best food on the island and it is a little pricy as is the food in the resort market. The bar closes down really early so if your looking for an evening drink you'll have to go elsewhere. The WiFi was awful. Very low signal and only worked half the time. Even the Internet in the business center was slow and cost $5.95 for 15minutes.
The place was really nice but if you are doing a lot of activities you may want to stay closer like in Kapaa otherwise it is a 40min to two hour drive to do boat tours, kayaking, some zip lining, and plane tours.
However, Princeville has a nice little market where you can grocery shop, get good food, and do a little shopping and Hanalei is only 8 minutes north with great food, beautiful beaches and some kayaking and surfing activities.

The hotel, location and amenities were fantastic. There were two issues though. One is the completely ridiculous lack of parking near the room. When I'm paying $13/day as a resort parking fee on top of a room parking way across the lot and a long walk from the room just isn't ok. The other issue we had was with the Westin's green policy, where they give you a $10 resort credit if you don't use the house keeping service. At check in apparently this wasn't explained anywhere near fully and it six phone calls to still not resolve the misunderstanding, with us just giving up and letting it slide. Other than that the hotel was excellent.

Description
Plantation offers the grace of yesteryear for de-stressing todayA 30-acre historic property on Kauai's west coast, Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages is a step back in time. Lovingly restored vintage houses are outfitted with period furnishings in rattan, wicker and mahogany. Each cottage is uniquely decorated and offers its own charm. While a handful of cottages are oceanfront, most are set among the coconut palm and banyan trees, fronting graceful manicured lawns. A restaurant, pool and spa add contemporary comforts, but the draw here is a feeling of being transported to a simpler, quieter time. Highlights Overall ambiance of idyllic restfulnessAuthentic sense of Kauai historySpa with indoor and outdoor treatment areasA 4,000-square-foot, five-bedroom Managers House LocationKauai's west coast, which serves as a gateway to Waimea Canyon, Koke'e State Park, and raft and kayak tours along the iconic Na Pali Coast RoomsRestored one- to five-bedroom vintage homes from Kauai's plantation era are clustered about the 30-acre Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages property. Period furnishings and architectural details evoke a bygone era and exude romance. For larger families or groups, top choice is the Managers House, a 4,000-square-foot, five-bedroom oceanfront home with AC in the master bedroom. The five-bedroom Kruse House, built circa 1920, was moved to this property in 2002. It is fully air-conditioned and each bedroom has a private bath. FeaturesThose looking for a place to relax and recharge in utterly peaceful surroundings will see this historic property as paradise. Plantation-era cottages set the tone, aided by inviting hammocks beneath the trees. Aston Waimea Plantation Cottages isn't the place for exuberant nightlife, though the on-site pub sometimes brings in local talent to complement its handcrafted brews. The antithesis of activity and action, there's a slow-down-and-breathe ethic here -- in the quiet, at the pool, at the full-service spa. While the black-sand beach is not for swimming, Kekaha Beach, five minutes away, has white sand and a lifeguard. Make Kauai Your Home Away from Home

The cottage was quaint and very Hawaii. You feel as though you've gone back in time and our on the farm...in a good way. Footed bathtub made for a nice soak after a long day of hiking. Full kitchen was the best part as we cooked all our meals. Stopped at Costco from the airport and stocked up for our week stay. The beach is not ideal to swim in as it's murky and the westside is very far away from anything else. Not much to do. The location being the biggest downfall.

Fantastic - got in late and the staff left detailed instructions on how to get the room key. While the condo is definetly in need of some updates, the location could not be better. It's right on the ocean and you can fall asleep each night to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below. Poipu Beach is a 2 minute walk away and there are restaurants and bars within walking distance as well. The appliances all worked well and there were pots and pans and all that so you can save a coiple of bucks by eating meals in (the grocery store is about 5 minutes away by car). We did not deal with the staff much but when we did they were very friendly and helpful.
We would stay here again , no question. For what the place lacks in amenities it more than makes up with location and ambiance provided by the ocean.

Unbelievable location!

Amazing unit for location. Waves breaking directly below us 24/7. We kept taking pictures to document the views. Really enjoyed having a townhouse with views from both floors. They gave us a free upgrade for seemingly the best view.
The unit was suitable for us but could maybe be updated, older carpet, etc. Enjoyed the "glass-louvered" windows to hear the waves and for the ocean breeze.
Pleasant, helpful Staff. Automatic lighting at the back of the unit every night for security. We did need to keep our sliding glass doors closed and locked every night, even on the second floor. Could maybe use added security as there were reported break-ins on the Island and the location is somewhat remote being right over the ocean.
The pool was clean and nice with waves sometimes breaking to "spray" into the pool area (I told you it was just above the ocean.)
Parking completely adequate for us.
Close enough to walk to area beaches (Poipu) and to a Restaurant and snack bar at "Brennecke's." The snack bar has breakfast items, laundry soap.
Well-stocked kitchen in the townhouse for meals or grilling at home. They also provided paper towels, dish soap, etc. Nice washer and dryer upstairs. Safe provided in the unit.
We snorkeled at Lydgate Park, swam in front of the Sheraton, took an ocean raft trip (pretty rough) to see turtles, took a canoe trip to a swimming hole, saw waterfalls, Sheraton Luau, and snorkeled at Anini on the North Shore. Recommend "Pink's" ice cream in Hanalei.
This was the best location we have had in Kauai (third trip here) and we enjoyed the quiet, "homey" feel to the property.
Our guidebook suggested that people ask for an "upgraded" unit when reserving. We had a "deluxe" two bedroom. All units are ocean-front.
Maybe ask for additional security if possible.
Don't expect a fancy hotel but more of a traditional, homestyle property.
Memorable ocean-front stay!

We were here from Jan 17-27. Overall the location won out over any complaints, but the construction was a major issue...noisy, smelly and intrusive. Also, paying extra for a "partial ocean view" was a complete waste of money. The beach, garden and pool areas are beautiful. During construction there is only one restaurant on site and no hotel shop in which to pick up needed items...it's a long long walk to the nearest store. Weather was great; snorkeling was moderate; hotel activities staff booked us on a wonderful 5-hr whale watching boat trip...saw lots of whales, dolphins and turtles.

Overall, we were very pleased with the entire condo complex. Our room was very clean, well equipped and comfortable. We had noisy people above, but that is not an issue with the hotel.
The staff was very accommodating. We had to wait until 4:PM for our room on our arrival day and that was an inconvenience.
Another conventional style swimming pool might be a nice addition, since the single "lagoon style" pool can get busy and filled with kids.
Overall, an excellent value and we will return for another visit.

Condo unit had everything I needed, including a full kitchen, washer and dryer, huge bathroom with jumbo tub and shower, great view, lots of space, 3 large screen tv's. Excellent condo with great beach and services

We had an excellent stay in a 1-bedroom that was fully equipped with the exception of one item which the staff supplied within minutes. The one repair needed was also dealt with immediately.
One inconvenience was the distance to the breakfast restaurant so it was a good thing we wanted to cook for ourselves in the condo.
We must mention also the annoyance each morning of leaf blower and mower noise from the gardening work.
Other than that, it was perfect for us -- the beach is large and just steps from the door; the gardens are lovely and expansive; the laundry is well-located (if a bit expensive); there is plenty of parking at the unit; the staff are friendly and efficient.
We recommend the Kiahuna Plantation unreservedly.

Overall we had an excellent family stay here. It's located on a gorgeous beach with a park beach down the road that has a reefed-in area perfect for kids. As for the hotel, the staff were helpful and nice, and though we had just a garden view room, it was a gorgeous view and within walking distance of the beach. Next time I will request a room far away from the road, as the road noise was disturbing to our baby; and the restaurant just across the way was noisy into the night.
The condo itself was breezy and adequate; the housekeeping could have been better in the details, such as dust accumulated under furniture and a bit of a grimy-feeling old shower/tub. A couple nights we were too warm, but the fans were helpful although AC would have been welcomed. We did enjoy the lanai balcony which was safe for our toddler, with very high and close rails.
The travel desk/concierge staff were very helpful to help us plan excursions and couldn't have been nicer. We enjoyed especially the sunset sail but a word of caution...take an anti-nausea med beforehand! I'm prone to motion-sickness and forgot that detail which kind of ruined the ambiance for me!
I would stay here again, just in a unit further from the road and closer to the ocean.

We were only here one night, so it was a little pricey considering we did not take advantage of any of the resort's ammenities. The room was quite nice with decent furniture and care -- not 5 star, but didn't expect that. The location was great for getting around the island, although our unit was near the road, so quite noisy, especially the trucks early in the morning. Friendly staff.

Enjoyed a beautiful ocean view room, however when you read, beach within short walking distance, it is that. When you get to the beach it is a very small crescent rocky beach, off to your right another short walk is Poipu beach, which is larger and nicer. Now if your walking from the resort and carrying chairs and coolers it is best to take the short drive up Poipu rd to the beach, plenty of parking, life guard station, shower stations to clean off the sand after a nice time of sunbathing or snorkeling. We stayed at the Kahala units just down the road from the Aston office.

this is not a place to hang out in all day and have a wonderful view and great amenities right at the tips of your fingers, but that's what we wanted. We wanted a place we could crash that had nice bed (the bed was fantastic) that we could come back to after a long day of having fun on this amazing Island.

When we first started looking for plane reservations to this area for my daughters wedding on August 8th we were looking at $950 to $1000 per person.. My daughter saw the package we just got back from on Orbitz for about $1100 per person plane, condo and car// although on the car we did pay $150 more for an upgrade to fit all of us... over all everyone was well pleased. The Manager at Peou Ka Kau was exceptional.. She change our accomodations to best fit our group.. the view were excellent.

We booked this as part of a package so we really did not know what unit we would get till we checked it. We had 106 a ground floor unit with a great ocean view and no steps to deal with. Unit was a little dated but very clean and well maintained. We found a few minor items missing and the staff replaced them right away. We loved this location being midway up the island for our day trips and beach adventures. Traffic could be a bit heavy from time to time with a bit of noise being the bedrooms are on the back traffic side of the units. But the sound of the surf made up for it. We would stay here again. Very Pleased!

The location was perfect for us. Our main love is snorkeling and the northern 2/3 of isle are the best. The room (#207) has everything you could possibly need.Even a cooler for packing a lunch and drinks. I suppose to some the street noise could be a little loud in the mornings but we were so exhausted by days end we didnt realy notice.Since our bodies were still on Central time we were the first up and on the road to see all the sights. Never had to fight crowds or tour buses or look for a place to park. By 5:PM Our day was over and we were ready for a good dinner.Restaurants start getting real busy after 6:pm.Only negative about condo was having the house keeper([...]) call the day before our departure to ask "when I was leaving because she had someone coming in the next day" and "would I start the last load of laundry for her"

The staff at this hotel was extremely helpful and friendly. The location was near a golf course, convenient to town, the river, and a beach park with a protected swimming area for children and playground. The property was attractively landscaped with a Japanese garden and two outdoor pools. Wi-fi was only available in the lobby and the snack bar needs improvement--the only negatives for this property. I would definitely stay here again especially when traveling with children.

Unit was premium quality, clean and comfortable. The open lobby and hallways allowed easy access to unit. Registration and Concierges were great. Shopping, groceries, eating places within easy walk; even a McD's. Liked Bobby V's Pizza and new ice cream shop. The relaxed atmosphere at the resort was a great complement to the relaxed lifestyle on the island. We plan to come back.

We stayed in a two bedroom, partial oceanview unit. The room was awesome. Everything was furnished very nicely. Very large rooms, Super nicely done. The kids loved the pool and slide. The ocean was rough, but the beach was beautiful and there were some shallow pools right there which are great for the kids. Very central location and awesome being directly across the street from Safeway. The grounds are immaculate. Can't recommend highly enough. One note though, there is no longer a pool bar/snack shack. That building became the restaurant's kitchen. So no quick burgers, but with a ful kitchen upstairs and grills down stairs that was not a problem.
I'm no longer a fan of Orbitz and won't be using them again. Had major seating isues on the plane, but the hotel was great.

This unit was dirty so outdated I have stayed at Pono Kai in the past and all was fine. This was a private owned unit and in this case The renters need to totally update the entire unit. There were no other units to change to in Pono Kai ***** Do not stay in unit J101 it was the worst Cono unit I have ever stayed in. The bed was old and worn and hard. You couldnt sleep on the 20 yr old sofa sleeper the shower curtain was full of mold and mildew. The TV in the living room is a old 13 inch TV that is totally to small no unit in the bedroom. Had to go purchase an air mattress to sleep on. There were roaches that came out at night. We paid a cleaning fee up front in the price but the unit was not fit for anyone to stay in.I will never trust [...]or the rental co they use again because of this.

You call this a upgrade
-
patty
- Aug 25, 2009
I was supposedly upgraded from marc pono to kaha lani since this one closed, (found out it really didn't) the room we were in at kaha lani was terrible. The toaster, dvd player, sliding door, clock radio and the dishwasher were ALL broke, the room was smelly and everything was rusty and very old. The paint was chipping on all the windows. I felt like I was in a cheap hotel in the Ghetto. The carpet was all wet you could see into our room and living area from outside even if the drapes were closed. You could hear everything from all the other rooms. The front of the dishwasher was all rusted and warped and the last straw was the whole front of it fell off when I shut the door. I was so upset with this place for all the money I had spent I felt like we were put into the worst room they could find for us. By the 4th day and after the dishwasher incident I finally went to the manager and she did upgrade us to a room right next door that was the total opposite. I was truly happy she did this but really we or anyone for that matter should never be in the 1st room, it should be condemned. I am so very disappointed with the accommodations that were chose for us by cheaptickets without 1st checking it out for themselves. I am also disappointed with the kaha lani for even putting us in that room to begin with. I feel as if part of my trip should be refunded, hell I could have booked a better and cheaper room at the Kauai sands or something but that is NOT what we paid for period. I hope I get some kind of response from cheaptickets in regards to this.I will wait and see.

The hotel is located in Kapaa which was one reason I chose it because it's easy to reach both north and west shore. The property is really nice and well maintained. My room was spacious, nice and very clean. Hotel is right on a beach. Though not suitable for swimming or snorkeling it's nice for long walks. One must not miss the restaurant Hukilau Lanai! It's really great. Every dish I had was really tasty.
Some things that could be improved. It's a timeshare and they tried to lure me into their presentations whenever I booked an activity with them (e.g. snorkel trip). I declined but got a bit annoyed after the third time. Check out is early 10 am.

Low-key, low-rise condominium resort offers relaxation and convenienceElegant coconut palms sway over low-rise buildings and gardens, giving Outrigger Lae Nani the feel of a Hawaiian hideaway though it is just a two-minute walk from the eclectic shops and restaurants of Coconut Marketplace. The resort is tucked into a curve of shoreline with a sweet golden beach and protected lagoon that is ideal for young families, but further along Wailua Beach surfers will find a little wave action. First Trip to Kauai
-
Dan and Linda
- Jan 23, 2012
Our stay at Lea Nani was terrific! The gardens and grounds are a big plus. Everything was manicured and just a beautiful place to come back to after a day out enjoying the island. The gardener even trimmed the flowers by our room and gave us cuttings for a vase in our room, then left fesh cut bananas on our lanai!
While we loved the setting, our initial room was less than great. We had booked an "ocean view" one bedroom condo, our room, 214, had basically a view of the pool with a very limited view of the ocean. The room was very outdated and needed some deep cleaning. After two nights, we were there 8 nights, I inquired about moving to a different room. The office staff were very helpful and arranged for us to move as soon as something became open on our 4th day. We made the short move to #312 and it made all the difference in our stay at Lae Nani. It was so much nicer, updated, fantastic kitchen and bedroom, baths, living area, and had a very nice view of the beach, ocean and mountains! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Kauai and would book a room at Lae Nani again. Just make sure you ask about the room. Building #3 and #5 look to have the best views.

Low-key condo resort at the edge of Wailua BeachCastle Lanikai Condominium Resort is an intimate retreat. There are just 18 units here, each within a 30-foot stroll of Wailua Beach. Extra spacious two-bedroom condominiums are housed in two low-rise, walk-up buildings on over an acre of lawn and gardens at the edge of the Pacific. A freshwater pool sits near the sand, and because Wailua is one of the swimmable beaches on Kauai, guests can dive into the ocean one hour and lounge around the sunny pool the next. Come evening, there is an oceanfront barbecue area for cooking out and socializing. You can go north, where the cliffs of Na Pali give way to the sea, south to upscale Poipu Beach Resort with world-class golf and fine dining, and all the way to the iconic vistas at the rim of Waimea Canyon in the west. Best on the island

We couldn't have asked for more. The condo we rented for six days at the Lanikai Resort provided the nicest accommodations we've ever had. The beautiful two bedroom, two bath unit was tastefully decorated with a fabulous second floor view of the pool and beach - best of all, we usually had the pool and beach to ourselves. Rather than being right on a busy road like many of the hotels, the Lanikai is set back with a green buffer between it and the road, so there was no traffic noise. We were able to park our rental car right outside our room, rather than needing to hike to the hotel from the parking lot or use valet service (or pay to park) as is necessary at some hotels on the island. No elevator didn't bother us as we are capable of carrying suitcases up a flight of stairs; however, if that's a problem, I'd recommend a ground floor unit. Each unit is different since they are owned and rented by the owners, but we couldn't have been happier with the location.

Very nice resort but experience spoiled by lack of parking in the evening. Ample parking available in neighboring resort but you will need to find security personnel to issue temp parking pass every evening. Recommend resort issue parking pass for overflow parking upon arrival since they are aware that parking is an issue.

Tranquil but playful -- who can resist a 150-foot water slide? -- the AAA Four Diamond Grand Hyatt Kauai inspires thoughts of paradise. For spa-lovers it may well be paradise since Anara Spa added its blissful garden sanctuary. Yet golfers, kayakers and tennis players will also find idyllic ways to while away the hours … or days. Loved this hotel! The pools were amazing and I loved the water slide. The food in the restaurants was fantastic, but you really pay for it. But you also get what you pay for! I could easily spend an entire vacation here without leaving! The room was comfy and the staff was friendly and accommodating. Overall, it really added to the experience of being in Kauai.

My husband and I traveled to Kauai for the first time this January and made the excellent decision to stay at the Hyatt. Make sure you tell them if it is your honeymoon or anniversary - they delivered champagne to our room and we also got a cabana rental and a complimentary dessert.
We ate at Dondero's one night and it was pretty good. The concierge told them it was our honeymoon and they delivered two special desserts and tea to us for free which was great. The service was excellent.
We also booked a helicopter tour and a zipline tour with the concierge which were AMAZING. Worth every penny. I especially loved the ziplining.

Plantation-style goes upscale on Kauai's Royal Coconut CoastSet on 25 acres along a three-mile beach -- Kauai's longest -- this resort evokes the graciousness of the plantation era but with a host of contemporary amenities. The beach, which is perfect for sauntering or sunning, is not for swimming. No problem. Kauai Beach Resort has four pools, a beachfront sand-bottomed pool and a fantasy pool with a 75-foot lava-tube water slide among them. Two restaurants, a lounge, a fitness center and a spa round out the facilities. And when guests want to explore further afield, Kauai's east coast is an ideal spot from which to do it. Highlights Fantasy pool with 75-foot lava-tube water slideSeries of concerts and programs promoting Hawaiian arts and artistsHawaiian Rainforest SpaComplimentary bocceComplimentary airport shuttle LocationKauai's Royal Coconut Coast is rife with sacred sites and groves of slender coconut palms, with its character shaped in part by long, curving Wailua River, the only navigable river in all of Hawaii. A stay here should include visits to a trio of sites, Fern Grotto, Secret Falls, and 80-foot Wailua Falls, made famous in the opening scene of TV classic "Fantasy Island." RoomsAccents such as louvered doors and wood floors recall plantation style, but the old plantation homes didn't have what these rooms at Kauai Beach Resort have: travertine marble in the bathrooms and iPod docks in the living rooms. FeaturesThere's a distinctly Hawaiian feel to Kauai Beach Resort with its island architecture, but also a culture of sharing and promoting authentic Hawaiiana that sets it apart. The resort hosts events all year, including local musicians who share their art and stories, benefit concerts supporting the perpetuation of Hawaiian language and music, and a festival featuring the state's top slack-key artists.
