Family vacation with 9 (2 kids)

  • motomomfowl6
  • May 22, 2012
This was a perfect hotel to stay at with 2 kids (12yr/8yr) , Grandma and extended family. From having continental breakfast available every morning (with free cooler bag to take goodies along too), newspaper , being able to check out beach towels and beach chairs- it was great all while local LIVE music played calmly in morning! Hotel is down at the end of Waikiki ( 5 min walk to Zoo) however you're still a quick walk into the mix of International market place etc etc...smaller pool that was not available first 2 days so that did put a damper on things and it was NOT heated (don't know if that is normal because it did say Heated on hotel info). However Beach is literally across the street -and with kids plently of quick meals avail ( Subway, Burger King, McDonalds, Starbuck's, Cold Stone Creamry, quick Wolfgang Pucks...but also Tiki Bar and grill that has great bar menu and you can sit and listen to evening music live on lanai w/kids and doesn't get crazy- FREE wifi out in pool area and here's a HUGE PARKING TIP...parking you can do for MUCH CHEAPER at other Aston location literally 1 block/quick 5 min walk at Aston Waikiki Bayan and only pay $12 a day/$72 a week gets you parking pass to go in and out as you wish.. you have to pay CASH and they give you parking sticker for set days...Grandma/and kiddos were able to do the walk with no problem or you can drop off and literally drive down street back and one person walk back..it saved us alot of money by doing this instead of parking with set hotel. overall---great staff ...when door key card didn't work on one room they were there ASAP to fix. Takes about 10 minutes to walk down to International Market place but not a big deal in evening when a bit cooler and everyone's out enjoying just being there :) Hope my review helps you !!!

Perfect 10th anniversary

  • May 19, 2012
We were both blown away by the view from our room and balcony. In fact, it served as much of our entertainment during our stay. We walked around Waikiki a lot and enjoyed the shopping and sight seeing. In fact I was surprised that I didn't gain a pound even though I ate well. (Yay!) The breakfast buffet every morning was wonderful also. (One less thing to worry about.) I was sort of surprised that there was no Wifi in the rooms but the wireless service in the pool area worked fine. Over all, my favorite vacation so far. I'll definitely stay at the Aston Waikiki Beach again! Oh, and did I mention the sunsets? WOW!

  • May 20, 2012
We really enjoyed our stay at the Ala Moana Hotel. We had a partial ocean view and the view from our room was incredible. We had our wedding at the Ala Moana Park 5 years ago and we could see the place as well as the ocean. The staff was very helpful. The hotel is very convenient for shopping, the beach and Waikiki. My only complaint is the bed was not real comfortable, but everything else was great.

  • May 1, 2012
My husband and I made a last minute trip to Oahu and stayed at the Aqua Wave. This is a great hotel for couples. This is not a hotel you want to have your children stay at. The reason I say that is due to the clubs and noise form the clubs and the "women of the night" that are right outside on the street. These problems are in no way the hotels fault. It's just not what I would want my children to see. The location is great for going to the international market place and getting to the beach. I also liked that I was just a block down from Denny's. The rooms are very nice but the elevators have a mind of their own!!

Great Hotel

My experience was pretty awesome at the Modern Honolulu. It's location is nice because it is on the outskirts of Waikiki, in which you don't deal with all of the obnoxious people and noise and can walk to the main strip in about 10 minutes. The rooms are spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Valet parking was $28/day which was a little more than some of the other hotels we were considering, but wasn't that big of a deal. The pool area was nice, only downside was an ok outdoor bar area. The drinks and appetizers were expensive and not that large in size. There is a happy hour from 4-7, which helped. I would say that the best part is Morimoto being located in the building. We ordered some sushi and cocktails and it was AMAZING.

Hotel was very nice. I had work daily on the north shore and The Modern Honolulu was an easy in and out each day. Close enough to all the action of shopping and the beach but just on the edge so I was not bottled up with the traffic down near the other hotels. Relaxing by the outstanding pool was a plus. Great pool, great service.

The location is awesome. The beach is right outside your window with beautiful restaurants that open up to Waikiki sand. The views are magnificent. The hotel is starting to age and it shows. Some of the staff are not as friendly as they should be. The pool is cold and doesn't get much sun. However, I still think it's worth a try.

Beautiful location

Beautiful location, near enough to the busy area but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Near a breath taking beach and park and close to the Aquarium. The room was amazing, on the 12th floor, corner room with a view of Diamond Head and the ocean. The only drawback was the late check-in. The check-in was confirmed for 1 PM and we were not in our room until after 3 PM. Sitting around in the lobby for 2 hrs. was not a great way to start our stay especially when we had arrived from the cruise ship at 09:30.

nice hotel, staff need to improve though

the hotel is very convenient, and nice. It is within the center of waikiki area, so it is within walking distance to all major attraction. However, the hotel provide free access to pink trolley, which I tried to use. For 2 times, it never came within 30 minutes interval. During checkout, I complained about it. Surprisingly, the lady at frontdesk seems impatient, and told me " It is free bus, so what you do expect?". Yes, it is free, so I can not complain as it is barely usable? Meanwhile, I see huge space for improvement for hotel stuff how to communicate to customer as well.

Beautiful, historic hotel

  • Anne R.
  • Apr 22, 2012
Beautiful, historic hotel in wonderful location. Minutes away from shopping and restaurants. We had a fantastic time! Would highly recommend the Moana's breakfast buffet -- wonderful food and great service. Hotel has many wonderful touches to make sure guests enjoy Hawaii, for example, lei making and crafts every day with local Hawaiian fellow named Nathan. Note to the Moana Surfrider: never discontinue the lei making and Hawaiian crafts with Nathan, because he absolutely made our trip -- the kids loved the leis and crafts! Nathan was also wonderful with giving us tips on things to do and see on the island (Nathan is a great ambassador for Oahu!). Would recommend taking the historic tour of the hotel, also. Would stay at the Moana Surfrider again in a heartbeat. Only critique: lack of hot tub (this is the only thing that we felt was missing).

Of the two different Aqua hotels my family and I have stayed in this was our favorite. The location was great, accommodations nice and clean, and the experience overall was a great value. There was ample parking available, too, compared to our experience at the Aqua Waikiki Pearl where you are forced to park your car in a garage two blocks away if you aren't lucky enough to snag one of the 20 or so spots on premisis. I will book a stay here again.

We travel to honolulu every year, and this our 5th time to stay at the Queen Kap. The draw for us has always been the location and view of Diamond Head. This end of Waikiki is much quieter, and convienent to the beach, Zoo, and Aquarium.

When I Booked the price was quoted to be about $ 88/Night. I booked 2 nights and paid $ 228. + $15 to park. The room was ok, no resturant but not a problem at that location. Had to book from 3 PM the day before arrival as arrival time was 7:30 AM after an 18 hour trip. I could not use the 15 hours of reserved time before my arrival.

To be honest, the room we had reminded me of how I lived when I resided in Honolulu, Hawaii. It felt old and a little dilapidated, but I was used to it. For others, it may not fair as well. The staff was very nice. It was easy to engage in conversation with the people at the front desk. They're personable. We were lucky to be on the 2nd floor where the laundromat and service staff were at. All-in-all, our stay was good. If money is tight while you're in the islands, give Ambassador a "holla!"

I can honestly say there were several staff members that went above and beyond to make our stay a greatly fabulous one! I would love to stay here again just because of them. The hotel was beautiful, currently being remodeled to convert to a time share, we got to stay in one of the rooms that were already done...beautiful! Even though it didn't face the ocean, we didn't miss it at all since we were so close, just a few blocks away. The view of the canal to our left and the ocean to our right made for a lovely experience :)

Good hotel with great location on the beach. Expected a little more (5 star). Actually will go back to the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach, which offers similar experience without all the "extra" fees. I am a SPG member and this still didn't get me the extras without additional charges. Grounds were beautiful and probably one of the best locations on the beach for a wedding.

Decent hotel

  • Brad from UF
  • May 7, 2012
I stayed here with a fellow grad student during a conference. It was a decent hotel, with a couple issues. Firstly, we were given a suite because they had overbooked, which is great, because then we had a kitchen, but it seemed like the suite had just as much furniture as the regular rooms, just spread out. Not a big issue, just a bit weird. Secondly, there seemed to be a roach problem, since I saw one or two on multiple occasions. I told the front desk at checkout and they said they were take care of it. A special thanks to Dexter at the front desk though, he was really cool and did his best to help me in my search for a Ukulele. I would recommend this hotel if you're looking for a cheap-ish place to stay and you don't mind having a simple room.

We loved this Hotel, we are a family of five, it accomodated us all. They were going through some renovations however it did not affect us at all. Very clean, spacious rooms. Newly upgraded kitchen and very clean. Service was great we asked for a extra blanket and they were there with another blanket within 5 minutes and very friendly. We would recommend this hotel to everyone.
