Description
Riverfront hotel in Savannah’s historic district Originally a storehouse for cotton during the 1800s--when Savannah's waterfront boasted a bustling cotton exchange--River Street Inn sits on a bluff overlooking the Savannah River. The inn comprises five floors wrapped around a central atrium. Throughout the property, antique furniture and period décor create an old-world ambiance with modern conveniences. The inn's central location at the north end of Savannah's historic district puts guests within easy walking distance to the bars and restaurants of River and Broughton Streets. Highlights Great location overlooking River Street and the Savannah RiverTrolley tours of Savannah's historic district stop outside the hotelWalking distance to many downtown bars, restaurants and attractions Rooms Southern ambiance permeates the inn's décor with antique and antebellum-style furnishings. Each room has its own personality, from hardwood floors and four-poster beds to plush carpeting and wrought-iron headboards. All 86 rooms overlook the Savannah River or downtown Savannah. Watch large ocean freighters ply the busy port river from French-style balconies found in some rooms. FeaturesBuilt in 1817 out of ballast stones left by visiting ships, the first two floors of the inn make up a section of Factor's Walk--a network of narrow streets, alleys and bridges that supported one of the South's busiest cotton ports. Numerous restaurants, bars, shops and tour options surround the hotel. Visit Huey's Southern Café for low country favorites like shrimp, oysters and fried green tomatoes. Guests can buy tickets for trolley tours of the city or river cruises from the front desk. A complimentary evening guest reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres is held Monday to Saturday. A fitness center with professional-grade cardio equipment is located onsite. Transportation Savannah/Hilton Head Airport Attractions River StreetOwens-Thomas HouseForsyth ParkCity MarketFactor's Walk

We really enjoyed staying at Avia and couldn't think of a better place to stay while we were in Savannah. The hotel staff was excellent from check-in to check-out. This includes everyone from the front desk, service staff, concierge, bartenders, door men, etc. The hotel is perfectly situated for you to walk to shops, head on down to River street, explore old mansions and walking distances to great restaurants and nightlife. We really enjoyed the pool as well during our time there especially since it was unseasonably warm. Hotel Avia is well worth the money and delivers great value.

A Little Noisy

Thought we had found a perfect room until we got ready for sleep. Our room faced the river but in between was a very noisy four lane road. Heard trucks most of the night. The hotel, however, was very nice - just ask for a room away from the river view.

Hotel was properly staffed for the large number of guests. Staff was friendly and helpful in providing information for the surrounding areas. Also, enjoyed using the gym facility during my visit. Unfortunately, the Hotel was not as close to the river as expected, but not a bad walk with the right pair of shoes. You must valet; on the way in we had to wait for someone to get the car, but had a much smoother experience getting the car on the way out since you can call ahead.

Happy New Year in Savannah!

  • Mimi V
  • Jan 5, 2012
This hotel was great, only a couple of issues that I could find. B/c we booked through this site the clerk couldn't/wouldn't tell us what our nightly rate was, or if what we paid included the parking fee per night. That was very frustrating as we paid for both rooms and were trying to split the amount paid w/ our friends. The breakfast was mediocre at best, however the negative part was that they allow pets to walk through the door beside the breakfast area...I have a problem with that, I don't allow my dog in the kitchen or near the table ever! And the last thing I want is someone sitting at a table near me with their dog, or walking past the breakfast area while I'm trying to eat. I think their should be a seperate entrance/exit for the pets, especially at breakfast time! I would stay here again, but probably would pay to eat somewhere that didn't allow pets while I'm eating. A lot of that is to be blamed on the humans, my dog is my baby and I love him, but I still don't allow my 90lb (yes, ninety) lap dog to sit with me while I eat. I would also have respect enough for others, to keep my dog away from them while they ate.

Meeting at Savannah Convention Center

  • Oct 31, 2011
The Staybridge was very nice! I came in on a red-eye a few hours before check in and they were able to find me a room, then called to make sure it was OK once I got in. The staff was very friendly and accomodating! The rrom was clean and pleasant, the kitchnette would have been great if I'd brought the kids, but I was at the Convention center most of the day. Probably because of early check in I had a room on the 1st floor overlooking the street but the street noise didn't really bother me, except for one car alarm going off at 3 am, it wasn't an issue. Breakfast had many more options than I've come to expect from a "continental breakfast" - not only waffles and cold cereal, but 2 kinds of hot cereal, eggs and breakfast meats, fruit, and more.

My wife & I stayed here for 3 nights while we visited SCAD. For the price, we couldn't have asked for a better value. We paid considerably less than the other 3-4 star hotels in the city's historic district. The location was perfect for our needs. We were only 2 blocks from the SCAD Admissions office, a few blocks from Broughton Ave., and only a short walk to Bay St. and the riverfront. The hotel staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. Our room had a tempurpedic mattress which, in my opinion, is unparalleled for comfort and restful sleep. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay here. However, I would recommend self-parking your car, as the valet service is a substantial $17 a day.

The modern decor of the hotel and our room was a very nice touch. The breakfast buffet had many food items that the average hotel buffets do not carry. The conceriege was perfect, they even helped booked our tours. I LOVED our VALET attendants. They were professional, friendly, and very helpful as far as where to go eat, what to go do, and what see. Valet was on a flat 15.00 a day and with my husbands Titan we never had to worry about finding somewhere to fit it! The only two downsides were housekeeping was slow when things were requested and our both the bathrooms had minimal lighting. It was just enough, would have preferred more lighting. I loved that internet was included and that we had a fridge and a microwave! The split bathroom was a plus! As well as the couch/ sitting area and work station. It was a very nice room! And to top it all off the beds were actually comfortable! I fell inlove with Spring Hill Suites and will def look for them anytime we go on vacation!

The hotel itself was beautiful and the staff were nice and accommodating, however, the room was very small and the bathroom was near closet size. Additionally, we had to call the front desk three times before someone finally arrived to handle an ant problem in our room. The problem was solved by hotel staff spraying Raid on the line and colony of ants that had accumulated by the time the arrived. We will find other accomodations on our next visit to the wonderful city of Savannah, GA.

Elegant but affordable

  • Happy Travelers
  • Jul 14, 2011
Our room was very spacious and elegantly apppointed. The bathroom arrangement was a bit odd with a curtain system, but we made it work. We ate two breakfasts and one dinner at the adjoining restaurant; the food was excellent, and the service was skilled but slow. Forsyth Park across the street was beautiful, but we wouldn't recommend the cafe, which we tried for lunch.

Savannah Celebration

The hotel staff and accomodations were fabulous. We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and returning to Savannah. We love the city and being at Tybee Island. This was our first time at the Mansion and will not be our last. The room was gorgeous and quiet which was perfect for us. Everyone was very attentive to our needs. We were very impressed. I have told everyone that they must stay at the Mansion the next time they are in Savannah.

The hotel was great. Only 2 suprises. Parking was 19 dollars a night and a smoking room was 30 dollars extra a night. You also had to smoke on the balcony. But I would stay there again.

Heavenly Beds

  • Stephanie
  • Jun 14, 2011
We have stayed here several times and always enjoy our stay. We love the location and always have gotten a river view room. The room has always been clean and comfortable. The sitting area with view of the river is a cute plus that my husband and I have enjoyed. The Westin's Heavenly Beds are wonderful! A big reason why we continue to go to Westins. These are the only beds that we sleep as well on as we do when we are at home. The grounds were cute and it was fun sitting on the terrace for out in the gazebo. This was a completely enjoyable hotel! We would definitely stay again if in the Savannah area.

Nice hotel...not the best Westin

This was a quick trip for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Savannah is really a beautiful city, the people are nice, and the food is outstanding. We explored the older parts of town, ate at some of the nicer places (get reservations for Elizabeth's on 37th for a wonderful fine dining experience). The hotel's heavenly beds delivered, as usual. May have just been the holiday weekend, but there were a LOT of children around who overtook the pool and made it an unpleasant place for those of us who like vacationing with adults. The rooms were nice. I didn't like waiting for the Ferry every time we went into Savannah proper but it was sort of fun. Make sure you take a tour while you are there. The history and architecture are worth checking out.

[...] 1) we had requested adjoining rooms early on and the hotel said they didn't have any yet in the other room next to ours there was an adjoining door to the next room 2) arriving at the hotel and checking in we asked where the malls and shopping were located and the front desk lady pointed to the brochures and walked away never offering to assist us 3) when we went back and asked for a map she did give us one but never marked on it where we were presently or what route we would take to get to what we were looking for. We truly seemed like we were bothering her. The directions and friendliness of the day staff was terrible. However, later in the evening the gentleman working the front desk gave great walking directions when we inquired about a location we wished to visit and evening secrity guard was friendly.4) the breakfast left a lot to be desired. Overall the hotel was very clean and the rooms were comfortable. I would stay there again but I would know where I was going and what I planned to visit.

Wonderful, caring staff, awesome breakfast, and beds were very comfortable. However, the location wasn't the best, its across from the ghetto, and getting to River Street meant walking down a dark, deserted alley, and this turned out to be an unpleasant experience, as we got hassled by a small group, but other than that, the hotel itself was wonderful.

The outside of it is not really impressive, but the inside is awesome. The rooms are spacious and are better than some of the more expensive chains I have stayed at. The bathroom was especially impressive. Very large. Appreciated the complimentary breakfast in the morning. Staff helpful.

close to the fun part of town . Some staff members could be a little more understanding , we were denied a late checkout for no apparent reason , the hotel was not even booked for the weekend and they wouldn't budge on working with us the price to stay a few more days.
