My Melia Experience
-
ATL Visitor
- Apr 17, 2012
The staff was very nice, helpful, and personable. We booked through a travel website- we weren't aware that we would be required to pay an additional $28 per day for valet parking. Although our reservations were for a deluxe room with double beds, we had to prove this with our email confirmation to avoid an additional $20 per day upcharge. The pillows on our bed were not clean - they actually had an unpleasant odor. We only ate breakfast 1 of 3 days at the hotel. Although our reservation was for 3 people, we were only given 2 free breakfasts per day. We had to speak with the restaurant manager to have this waived. The staff always aimed to please and were quick to correct issues - that is what helped our experience. The location was central to everything we planned to do, so that was convenient as well.

Perfect location for walking to attractions.

Babalou
- Apr 15, 2012
The best thing going for this hotel is their location, about a 10 to15 minute walk to the Coca-Cola Museum and the Georgia Aquarium. Be sure to keep your car at the $15 garage (next door) instead of paying the $28 per day valet parking. You can also easily walk about 20 minutes to the area near Ponce de Leon at Piedmont Streets where you will find Mary Mac's Tea Room (must-go) and Papi's Cuban Restaurant. Get a room as high up the building as you can to avoid traffic noise. Easily accessible from the Interstate. View of downtown Atlanta (south side of building) is amazing! This property has been recently acquired and it does have that tired look to it. Our room was on the 15th floor with a King but it had no flat screen, microwave or frig. The balcony is only big enough for two or three to stand. Melia has big plans for the place and I look forward to coming back after reconstruction. Housekeeping was just OK. Not sure if they vacuumed or mopped while we were there. I definitely could see that the hallways (edges in particular) have not been vacuumed in a VERY long time. Breakfast was fine with standard fare. Coffee was very good and they serve Starbucks at the lobby bar. This place feels a little sketchy at night. We checked out at 4 in the morning and upon leaving our elevator, we were asked by a young man to hold his elevator door for a reason that made no sense. We declined. You should know you need a room key to operate the elevator from 9pm to 6am, so that may tell you something. I never felt unsafe in the area, but this is not a neighborhood to take a romantic midnight stroll like you might if you were staying in a resort. The staff at the Melia were all wonderful, genuine and friendly. When we had trouble trying to phone housekeeping for extra washcloths and room service for some dessert, the manager was very apologetic and comped the dessert. We never dined there, as the prices were quite high and there are so many other options.

Fool in love
- May 9, 2012
The hotel was nicely located in the business district with plenty of restatuarants and shopping within minutes. The swimming pool and workout facility was great and inviting. The only downside was that the matress was not as comfortable on my king-size bed as it should have been and the sheets kept coming off as though too small for the bed. The price was great and I would stay here again because of location and cleaniness of hotel.

The hotel is in need of a revamp, wall paper in passages is dirty. Furniture in rooms is scratched and peeling. Taps and toilets are leeky and need some effort to get them closed. Cleaners don't clean under tables and I was welcomed with a bag of garbage outside of my room which was left there for 4 hours before someone removed it

The only bad part of the stay is that the walls are very thin, I could hear other guest opening and closing their doors all night and sometimes it would cause my door to rattle as if someone was knocking on the door, even got up once during the night to answer the door but it was someone next door coming in.

The hotel is beautiful! Decorated nicely with lots to do inside and outside the hotel. Good loation and very nice rooms.. The only complaint is about the shower. It took a really long time for the water to get hot and the inside liner wasn't long enough so the bathroom floor stayed dangerously wet but other that it was great

The location is great if you are attending events at the Georgia Dome, Georgia World Congress, and/or Phillips. It is located in a rehabilitative community, so there are elements of shady people still in the area. Check-in was extremely slow and long. There system is extremely ineffecient.

Parking, although it cost extra and was not well-advertized when I was looking for a hotel, was convenient and just$12/day--less than the $18 published on the billboard.
The room was large and clean.
My welcome at the registration desk after a long trip in was cold but otherwise fine. The housekeeper overlooked a few items but the room was clean.

Wasn't sure if this hotel would be a good hotel for four nights, but as it turns out it was! We enjoyed our stay, the staff was friendly and helpful. Couldn't beat the price for what we received! Breakfast was perfect!!! Only thing I would change is the fact that the hotel needs a credit card to hold for breakfast, they should just provide their customers with a "card" of sorts to present to the restaurant for their "included" breakfast. Less hastle that way for everyone! Just so you know, I am VERY picky when it comes to hotel stay so trust my review on this, it is honest! It's not a perfect hotel but worth the price!

Great location in Atlanta. Walking distance to many restaurants and attractions. Staff was absolutely marvelous and alot of them. Do not stay in any room ending in 17 or 18. Doors are next to each other and slam close. I was startled twice out of deep sleep during stay. Not a lot of counter space in bathroom. Only towel rack in shower, so difficult to be green. Furnishings comfortable. Plenty of electrical outlets. Will stay again

The hotel is what would be expected of a Ritz-Carlton, but the staff was somewhat snoody and this is dissapointing. I asked if they had a vending machine, her reply was "no", I asked if she could point me in the direction of a convienence store and her response was "we don't direct our guests that way". If it wasn't for the nicer clerk at the desk who interrupted the rude woman, and sold me a diet coke from the gift shop of all places, I would have been even more irritated. Room was awesome and overall experience was good, but the clerks need to work on their attitude. I didn't pay good money to stay at a Ritz, when I could have stayed at a Hampton and been treated better and nicer.

This trip was a Christmas present to my boyfriend who is a HUGE Georgia Tech Fan. We are from PA and I knew very little of Atlanta. This hotel is close to everything. We never had to take a taxi. We took the Marta subway which has two stops near the hotel. The rooms were large and the beds were so comfortable. I'm actually looking into buying the same mattress they had at the hotel. I have stayed at other 4 star hotels and this one definitely shines above the others. I would highly reccommend. Also, it is reasonably priced.

We booked a one night stay for the Falcons game at the GA dome. We drove 7 hours on our trip home from a vacation, so we were tired but hungry when we got there. The valet who took our car was very very nice and extremely helpful when we first pulled in. We only live about an hour from Atlanta so we don't stay overnight in the city often. We changed clothes and were eager to find a spot for dinner, but were worried about our dress, which was VERY casual. The manager at the front desk was FANTASTIC!! Told us everything that was close by and where to check out and also what to avoid. Huge help! The next morning we decided to walk directly to the dome and keep our car parked there. The morning manager told exactly how to get there and how long the walk would take. Upon our return from the game, we found our car pulled around ready and waiting. The manager on duty, the third we had dealt with during our stay, was also incredibly friendly and even offered us a bottle of water from their "market" on the house after our walk back. The rooms were clean, the area was very nice with lots of dining options, and things to do. We would most definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends!!

Excellent Small Hotel

Not your "5 star" hotel, but if you're on business, its perfect. Its right in downtown Atlanta - and "everything business" should be within walking distance.
Quiet area for downtown location. Clean, modern rooms with the expected creature comforts: large TV display (HD), Internet access - both wired and wireless, a nice cafe that shares lobby space, no issues with water pressure or temperature (I was at 3rd floor only though, no idea if this is true for higher floors). And since this was a particularly hot/humid summer in Atlanta, you will appreciate the "real" climate control a/c in your room.
Please don't expect to be treated like a king/queen - there's a reason you booked yourself in this class of a hotel. Just expect your money to be worth every $ you paid.
Didn't really spend time with staff - aside from the lobby area - don't expect a "concierge" - but really, who needs one? You've made your reservations, right? So walk up to the lobby, get your room key and you're done - all of about 1 or so minutes. Perfect. On checkout, same routine. Have your receipt emailed, done, in a record 30 seconds.
If you're a business traveler, it can't get better for this class of hotel.

Loved being up on the 46th floor! Very nice view and dedicated elevators for the upper floors made going up there very easy. Room was well maintained. Staff at front desk were professional and efficient.

The hotel itself is pretty good. But the restaurants inside are very expensive. Also the food sold in the store inside are expensive too. No free breakfast, no free internet.
The room is just like a room in Holiday Inn, nothing extra. And no microwave.

Artistic twist

We liked the unusual decor and music/theater theme. The hotel was very clean and appealing. High quality and good taste. GLBT friendly. The restaurant breakfast was surprisingly inexpensive; the portions were moderate instead of huge, which pleased us. My only discomfort was that the window air handler cycled very cold air in my face on that side of the bed -- not unusual for hotels, but the gap between them was only 2-3 feet. We would stay there again, but not if we had a car to park (that would have been about a sixth more expensive).

Prior to booking this hotel, all fees and amenities were revealed. It was even noted upon our stay there would be renovations.
I have never experienced a more attentive staff at any past hotel stays, than the curtious staff I met at Hotel Indigo!
A free room upgrade was offered due to construction. The room was decorated as the pictures described. Room was unique, and impressive to not your standard institutionalized hotel decor. Bathroom was smaller than I've encountered before.
It is common for most hotels in downtown Atlanta to charge for parking, but I do wish it could be a bit less, because it is now a deciding factor for future stays. Great experience!

Great Place, No Complaints!

Comfy but pricey; good area, easy-walk attractions
-

- Sep 8, 2011
The suites include: Carpeted sitting room with wet bar, coffee maker and mini-fridge (no microwave), armchair, couch, hassocks, desk and chair, and flatscreen TV; bedroom with a second TV atop the chest of drawers; separate vanity-closet room (a dozen hangers, bathrobe, iron and board); tiled bathroom with separate tub and shower. Hot water was almost immediate, even on the 16th floor.
Furnishing downsides: Just a desk, no table; not enough bars in the bathroom from which to hang towels; shower door's ceiling clearance too little for a towel.
The hotel has 19 stories (16 1/2 with lodging), conference rooms, three-meals restaurant, and four subsurface levels of valet parking. The fitness room (cardio, weight machines) and indoor-outdoor connecting pool (separate hot tub) are on the third floor; the men's and women's changing rooms have toilet, sink, shower and bench, but no lockers or sauna/steam room. Adjacent is the laundry room, with one pair of coin-op washer/dryer.
Amenity downsides: No local shuttle; unlike value hotels, internet and the business center are pricey, and there's no free breakfast. The elevators were glitchy on Sunday -- apparently a recurring problem on heavy check-out days.
Location: Midtown is a high-class area with major companies in high-rise buildings (no International-style glass boxes in Atlanta; everything is ornate). Within walking distance (10 minutes or less, all street-lit, many tree-lined) are the High Museum of Art, Atlanta Fed and its museum, Margaret Mitchell House, post office and many restaurants. (The Atlanta Botanical Gardens are about 25 minutes.) It's a five-minute/two-crossing stroll (no hills) to the Arts Center MARTA subway station, from which you can reach most places of interest, including the nearby Atlantic Center retail/residential complex.

We loved this hotel's rooms and location. The service angle seems a little rough around the edges, but not awful. 5-10 minute wait for anyone to show up at front desk for check-in. No parking passes available so we were told to just park and not to worry about it, and come back later for a pass. (I didn't like having to worry I would come back and find the car booted, even though it didn't happen. Waffle batter dispenser not working at breakfast. These are all little things but left me with a feeling that service is not their top priority.
My biggest problem was the lack of wireless internet. There was a cable for wired internet in the room, but that doesn't work for modern equipment, especially smart phones. They didn't lie about it or anything...it's just that these days one expects in-room wireless at a hotel in this price range.
The room was huge, clean and comfortable, otherwise.
Note that some of the reviews reference the gigantic radio tower next door. It is now being dismantled. That's not a problem, but just know that "find the hotel from anywhere" landmark is about gone as of fall 2010.
