Overall a good experience

  • diwi
  • May 8, 2012
Very clean, hotel staff was nice and accomodating though the security staff was very rude when I tried to find something in the lost and found. Pool very small but direct beach access made that unnoticeable. Not many amenties and a bit pricy from that point of view. But location is great! right next to both ocean drive and lincoln street.

Stay in shore crest tower, if at all

  • Madprotein
  • Apr 18, 2012
I went there for a conference which was held in shore crest tower. The ocean view rooms are spectacular, and well appointed. We stayed in the "other" tower which was under construction, as was the gym. Other than the periodic drilling, the room is spacious and the bathroom had a nice tub. It is a good value for the money, but it is lacking something that some of the other south beach ocean front hotels have. If you aren't looking for a super posh place, this hotel has a great location and the views are great.

The Hotel Matters

  • DC Native
  • Apr 4, 2012
I hear people say that when going to Miami Beach, it doesn't matter which hotel you stay at, what matters is that you are in Miami. Well, The Palm proves the hotel truly matters. Most of the staff were attentive and friendly. The hotel rooms are comfortable and modern. The lobby makes you feel as though you're outside the US. There is a great pool area and direct access to the beach. For an extra indulgence, check out the spa. The steam room and professional massage therapists will make you forget the costs.

Good value

  • BargainHunter
  • May 2, 2012
If you are looking for a value in South Beach this is the place. The rooms were clean, the restaurant had great food and the location is just around the corner from Ocean Drive. The downside is the elevators were dated, the pool a bit small and only a few rooms have any sort of a view other than the side of the hotel next door.

Comfortable place to stay

The South Seas is a comfortable, clean and convenient place to stay if you're heading to South Beach, Miami. All you need is in close walking distance. The fact that breakfast was included in the rate was great and the selection of food for breakfast was good. It was our first visit to the USA, so we can not compare to other hotels in the States.

Long Weekend Beach Getaway

  • Nicole Diver
  • Apr 3, 2012
The hotel has a stunning interior design and the room was a dreamy sanctuary. Everything was clean, peaceful and luxurious. The hotel restaurant had good food and a wonderful outdoor patio and jazz band on the weekend mornings for brunch. The rooftop deck and pool was beautiful but not as busy in the evening as I expected; it was crowded during the day. The pool was 3ft 6in deep, which seems to be regulation-related as the pool at the Delano was the same depth. The hotel was across the street from the beach and towels and chairs were provided (umbrellas were extra). The beach area was clean and peaceful with an eclectic crowd and the water was beautiful. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent stay

  • ejruf
  • Feb 29, 2012
I very much enjoyed my stay and this spa-centric hotel. Every aspect of the standard seemed to lead towards total relaxation. The pool area is beautiful and I loved that it sits right on the bay. The staff was very friendly and provided excellent service during every part of my stay. If you are not familiar with Standard hotels just know that this hotel is geared towards a younger (25-35) hip crowd but really caters to all. The only downside I found with my stay was the location to South Beach was a little far and required a cab ride.

Fantastic clean, modern decor. Gorgeous courtyard, pool and deck overlooking the water. Great restaurant on site - they even serve breakfast by the pool! About 1.5mi from Miami Beach - an easy jog/walk or you can take the bus. Closest shops, restaurants/bars are at least .5 mi away. The room could have been cleaner and the bar on site closed at midnight which was disappointing.

Description
Owned by the same creative folks behind the Diesel Jeans company, the Pelican (whose brazen, albeit appropriate, motto is "A myth in its own limelight") is South Beach's only self-professed "toy-hotel," in which each of its 30 rooms and suites is decorated as outrageously as some of the area's more colorful drag queens. Each room has been designed daringly and rather wittily by Swedish interior decorator Magnus Ehrland, whose countless trips to antiques markets, combined with his wild imagination, have turned room no. 309, for instance, into the "Psychedelic(ate) Girl," room no. 201 into the "Executive Fifties" suite, and room no. 209 into the " Love, Peace and Leafforest" room. But the most popular is the tough-to-score room no. 215, or the "Best Whorehouse," which is said to have made even former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss red with envy. The Penthouse that occupies the top floor is almost more 007 than James Bond's own pad -- very '60s, in color and pattern, with a big aquarium built into a copper wall and a yellow Shultz table and chair.

My First Trip To South Beach

  • Mr. J
  • Sep 3, 2009
My girlfriend & I stayed at the pelican hotel in May for 4 nights. It was my first time going to miami & south beach. I had a great time. The room was great, I think it was named do the vehicle or something like that. The hotel is really eclectic, in that ever room has a different theme. The staff there was very nice & hospitable. Especially one guy, his name is [...]. He told us everything we needed to know about south beach. Where to go, what to eat, he even gave us comp tickets for drinks, breakfast & a few clubs in the area. I enjoyed going to the gorgeous beach which right across the street from the hotel & lounging in the beach chairs provided by the hotel, which were very comfortable. I would definitely go back to this hotel & I would recommend anyone going to south beach between the ages of 21 to 30 to stay there.

I was trying to find a hotel on Ocean Drive so I could be close to the action. Though this was a little more than what I wanted to pay, it was a very good stay. I typically stay at Hampton Inn, La Qunita, and/or Courtyard by Marriott. If you are concerned with location, then this is definitely a plum choice. The food there was excellent as well. They give you complimentary gym passes to the Equinox which is a great gym located 2 blocks away. (Oh yeah, since this is owned by Diesel or Lucky Brand I forget, the staff there pretty much appeared model-esque so there's plenty of eye candy for the fellas...I guess for the ladies too). The room I stayed in was nothing to brag about, but another friend was staying at a comparable hotel a block away on Ocean and paid almost $400 more for the same length of stay (Thursday-Monday) and I didn't feel his room was better than mine at all. I booked my room well after he did too. I would stay there again the next time I go to South Beach.

beds uncomfortable, balcony faced others, smokers acroshor wqas 7 to 8 all drinks of vodka and gins the 6 foot width of the 2 foot pool, and the slow cascading waterfall, noisey from the bar next door, and the drinks were 12.95 for a captin and coke. happy hour all drinks free for vodka and gin, with a mixer of several choices,Pizza was great, the food is high quality,be prepared for turkis water pipes, what they had to smoke i have no idea, but was not dtug related.2 blocks from south beach,my first hour waling through the street, was grabbed by a Gang Banger, after he demanded me take his photo, kissed my left chhek, and licked me down my neck, I am 62 and in prime would have left him on the pavement. You are at the mercy of the thugs of Miami. Washington street is filthy, and full of scum, cant beleive, the Kardasians have a botique next to the Clinton Hotel,DASH.40 dollar breakfast, payed and realized it should have been 18. This hotel is in a great location. The beach is only minutes away. There is shopping and eateries near by. It was real easy to get a cab. The rooms are small and the bathroom was real small. The hotel was small in general only two floors with paper thin walls. The decor was red and white everywhere. The king size bed was really comfy, my husband and I got a good night sleep on that bed. The bellboy dirtied my husband tote bag with white paint because there was also painting going on. Free happy hour only included vodka, rum, and gin mixed with anything, no beer. Pool was around the back and not on the roof. No free breakfast or anything.

Description
This intimate, Art Deco original is near all the best of South Beach The Richmond bills itself as "Miami Beach's friendliest hotel." The same family has operated the business since it opened its doors in 1941, and the 92-room property is a local favorite. The oceanfront hotel and its neon-flooded exterior and original terrazzo floors fit in with its Art Deco neighbors. South Beach clubs, restaurants and shops are only a stroll away. Lush greenery delivers a sense of Hollywood glamour. Highlights Family-run Art Deco hotelBeach pathWithin walking distance to Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road and Collins AvenueHeated outdoor pool surrounded by lush gardensRooftop terrace and heated half moon spa and coconut palm patio Rooms Room decor throws nods to old-world Florida with the vintage postcard-type framed prints and palm printed curtains as focal points. Look for retro details, too, such as Art Deco floor lamps, seafoam- and black-colored tile bathrooms, a 1930s-inspired clock, blond oak headboards and accent pieces. In case of a rain shower, which is common in South Florida, grab the red umbrella in the closet. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet can be accessed for an additional charge. Features The Richmond's boutique identity adds to its intimacy. Nice touches include a cement path leading to a wood boardwalk and a half-moon spa tub strategically placed in front of a winding stream. On the rooftop terrace and solarium, take in the neon lights from South Beach.  An on-site cafe serves breakfast until mid-afternoon, and by night, guests can sip cocktails on the front porch. • vmm87

The Richmond was a perfectly comfortable stay. The think I like most was the location. It is right on the beach, and in the middle of all the action. The rooms have the bare minimum in amenities, but they were clean. I would've like a small fridge/ a better view, but was not in the room enough for this to be much of an issue. The pool was nice, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. I only got to use the exercise room once, but the treadmill was broken, and there was no fan or anything in the room. On a budget, this is a perfectly good hotel. On my next trip I would probably pay a little more for a nicer room.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Edgewater to celebrate her birthday. We stayed in a ocean-view room (small view - but nonetheless a view better than an alley or a wall) and the room was great. Nice bathroom. the STAFF was the best part of the hotel. Such nice, accommodating, serving people. You need something, just ask. Towels for the beach, lounge chairs, and all the ice you can carry for your cooler. Thanks everyone at the Edgewater.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 3 nights and overall it was great! The staff were friendly, the food was amazing and there were multiple pools to choose from. You are only a few steps away from the beach as well. The pool and beach area were all very clean!! The only bad thing was that this hotel has 3 nightclubs in it and it can get really loud at night. We stayed at the Chateau tower, which is the main building with the clubs, even though we were on the 11th floor, from 11pm- 5 am, we could hear the base and music from the club. If you want a peaceful goodnight sleep, don't stay at the chateau, stay at one of the other towers. Overall great place!!! You don't ever need to leave the hotel!!!

Relaxing Stay

We arrived early after departing a cruise ship. The counter staff and bellhops were extremly friendly and helpful. They took care of our baggage and we were able to enjoy fabulous Miami Beach that was just a few steps away beyond the very impressive ground floor outdoor pool area. After a few hours lounging on the beach we were able to check in early and get a great lunch on the outdoor patio. We then hung out on the seventh floor outdoor adult pool area enjoying a few cocktails. The room itself was very spacious clean and comfortable. The morning before checkout we had room service breakfast on our outdoor balcony! I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.. Thx!

The hotel was all that I had hoped it would be for me and my family. The only downside was the meal at Chez Gaston. While the food was great, the service was incredibly slow taking away from our beach and pool time. Regardless, I would stay again - just not dining at the restaurant.

Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Hotel looks like it did in 1950's--although I was not there to see it then, and TV screen is larger. WiFi did not work in room. It was spring break, the place was jammed with youngsters heading to the beach or drinking during happy hour. No bad behavior, but a less than desired ambience. Notwithstanding the friendly staff, will probably look elsewhere in the future.

I would definitely go back to the Newport resort, the rooms were great but the front desk staff was not so great. Our first room was next to the pool and bar so it was very noisy, the staff agreed to change our room the following day but it was not ready until the early evening. The second room balcony door was broken and we called for service several times but it was never fixed. There was also no parking one day but they let us valet free of charge. All in all it was worth it because it was newly remodeled and affordable but there was a few issues we were not happy about as I mentioned before.

The lobby was very nice and the staff was very helpful. As the rooms were not available they moved me to Casablanca hotel which was directly on the beach. Sixty Sixty looked to be a 3 Star hotel. For the price point I think it was a good hotel.

A six out of ten at best. Ok location. 10th floor view was good. Not enough lights inside the hotel room. Seems like the hotel had a inexpensive 'freshening' done a few years ago, but the quality of that freshening was low. Cleaning staff did not replace toilet paper or coffee regularly. The elevator had a notice from Miami city that it needed to be repaired in 30 days. The pool was not open due to repairs, so had to walk to the sister hotel for a swim. This hotel seemed to have been bought by an investor(s) who did not want to put any money into it. I think the hotel rating should be downgraded.

I must agree with some of the past reviews...the stay wasn't too bad but you can hang up trying to sleep past 8AM...the door slamming was awful I could hear this constantly throughout the early morning hours...the front desk claim that they are trying to work on this still...there still isn't a place to eat inside the hotel or a place to grab a cocktail (no mini fridge, no covering for shower, & toilet will run)...hotel appears to be a work in progress but has potential...the location is awesome and South Beach is a place that is now in my top three favs...

The hotel is in very good location and was pretty inexpensive. It appears to have been recently rennovated and they are currently renovating the bar area it seemed. Craftsmanship was sloppy in terms of work done in room. Cheap building materials including laminate hardwood floors throught the hallways and rooms. Poor insulation and lack of carpeting made noises from hall including doors slamming shut easy to hear throughout the night. Overall, decent hotel in a good location. You get what you pay for but not much more

Good location for beach and south beach shops and convention hall

  • Fulvio
  • Dec 6, 2011
I reserved my hotel months in advance and prepaid I arrived at 8pm The room I reserved with a king bed was not available. I was shown another room that was dark and gloomy at night and also in the day because it was long and narrow. The next day I was shown a much smaller room on the ground floor and opted to keep my room in the back on a higher floor because I thought it would be quieter The staff was very nice The room was clean and tidy The sink in the bathroom is under a cabinet that comes out 12inches from the wall. This makes it difficult to shave and brush your teeth without hitting the cabinet. The room was on the alley and so the garbage trucks were the alarm clock every morning at 7am I do not recommend the hotel on Sat night as the alley was also a scene of screaming arguments at 2, 3:30 and 4 AM The photos on line are deceptive regarding the charm and coziness of the rooms

Family Trip

Went to the Ritz for a family vacation. Overall, the hotel was a great experience. We loved the location where it was close to South Beach but not too close. It was perfect because I went with older adults and my siblings (in our 20s) where we can each do our own things. The rooms were clean and the staff was helpful and wonderful. For the price we paid, the rooms weren't very big (which was kinda expected going to South Beach). Also, (as expected) everything in the hotel was a little pricey. However, for a family vacation, the hotel is a great place, even if you have to splash a little more.
