This is a good value hotel without any of bells and whistles associated with the fancier accomodations in Miami. It has a nice swimming pool, is close to the beach and is located in a great part of South Beach. Looby is nice but rooms are adequate and nothing more...if anything, they could benefit from an upgrade. Overall, good budget hotel on South Beach for the budget conscious....just don't expect too much.

Great location but you get what you pay for

  • LAracer
  • Jan 20, 2012
The overall experience here was ok. The hotel is old and it shows. The king room size was great. The bathroom is small and the sink and toilet are low and crowded. The cabinet above the sink is oddly placed and it makes it hard to lower your head into the sink for brushing or washing your face. The tv in the room is so old I didn't think they still existed. LCDs are so cheap these days so I dont see why they haven't upgraded. There is horrible insulation making noises very apparent. People would be slamming their doors all over and you can hear it loudly. It's a cheap place for a quick stay but don't expect anything amazing except for the great location near the beach and La Sandwicherie.

Arrived at amost midnight and passed the hotel twice as it's not well marked and there's really no "main entrance" or driveway so we just kind of pulled up on the sidewalk and went to find the valet. Check in was easy and cordial. Our room was small but adequate and clean. But the big surprise the next morning was realizing the location was right on the beach with a great outdoor resataurant patio, large salt water pool, hammocks under the palms and easy beach access. Continental breakfast was nice, tool

Description
This intimate, Art Deco original is near all the best of South Beach The Richmond bills itself as "Miami Beach's friendliest hotel." The same family has operated the business since it opened its doors in 1941, and the 92-room property is a local favorite. The oceanfront hotel and its neon-flooded exterior and original terrazzo floors fit in with its Art Deco neighbors. South Beach clubs, restaurants and shops are only a stroll away. Lush greenery delivers a sense of Hollywood glamour. Highlights Family-run Art Deco hotelBeach pathWithin walking distance to Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road and Collins AvenueHeated outdoor pool surrounded by lush gardensRooftop terrace and heated half moon spa and coconut palm patio Rooms Room decor throws nods to old-world Florida with the vintage postcard-type framed prints and palm printed curtains as focal points. Look for retro details, too, such as Art Deco floor lamps, seafoam- and black-colored tile bathrooms, a 1930s-inspired clock, blond oak headboards and accent pieces. In case of a rain shower, which is common in South Florida, grab the red umbrella in the closet. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet can be accessed for an additional charge. Features The Richmond's boutique identity adds to its intimacy. Nice touches include a cement path leading to a wood boardwalk and a half-moon spa tub strategically placed in front of a winding stream. On the rooftop terrace and solarium, take in the neon lights from South Beach.  An on-site cafe serves breakfast until mid-afternoon, and by night, guests can sip cocktails on the front porch. Great Location Improvements Needed

  • Jun 29, 2011
The Hotel was in a great location. The majority of the staff was courteous and friendly. My main concern was the room temp it was 75 degrees during the day which is not cool enough and you could not lower the thermostat; it appeared to be locked. You only received 1 set of towels per person each day and if you needed to take multiple showers you would have to ask for more. Also, soap supplies were not provided on day 2 and I had to ask for more on day 3. It is very hot in Miami and it just seemed as if the hotel was rationing out soap supplies, towels and air. I became very frustrated during my stay and would not stay there again. Finally, the Hotel only served breakfast and lunch and was very limited in what it prepared and we had to go out for all our meals.

The staff was extraordinary! Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. While the exterior is not as plush as some other hotels in the area, the rooms have been completely renovated and are fabulous! Great Location, "Boutique" feeling

The best was the size of hotel, smaller, more intimate environment with excellent restaurant. The worst was the fact that the room had no bathtub. When I asked for an upgraded (and plainly said I would pay whatever) I just wanted a bathtub - they said they are a "green" hotel and did not have bathtubs. I found this a ridiculous answer and would not this hotel to anyone who loves a relaxing bath to top off the day. Either they lied to me, or they really don't have any rooms with tubs! And no hot tub/spa by the pool either! Boo -hiss!

Great Hotel a block from the beach!

  • Beach101
  • Dec 25, 2011
We loved this hotel! Is a block from the beach which is great! Right in the centre of south beach, what more could you ask for? The hotel is gay friendly which me and my boyfriend didn't realize while booking it (we are a straight couple) but we didn't have a problem with it, staff are great and friendly; the room was clean the only problem we had was that the phone in our room did not work and the carpet has just been washed so it was a bit wet. The hotel is gorgeous and very modern swimming pools are quite small but we werent planning to go inside. I would defently stay there again!

Trendy bright decor, friendly attentive staff. The room was rather small but adequate. The bathroom similarly small but beautifully decorated. No bathtub but a large shower. If you require a shower cap bring your own as not included in the bathroom amenities. Located a short one block from the beach it's in the heart of all the action and the best shops sobe has to offer. The pool is small suitable for a family of 4 only. Does not have a fitness facility on site but does have an Equinox Gym affiliation located 6 short blocks away. If this bothers you, keep in mind that along the way lots of distraction in the form of shopping and restaurants which gives you a chance to see what sobe has to offer (Happy Hour, dining, etc). Lords restaurant is decent. Food was pretty good but limited selection. They do make the best, albeit expensive, pina coladas along the strip. Dining and drink wise, not the best deal along the strip.Hotel has no parking but offers $27 valet parking located across the street a few feet from the hotel. You could park yourself for a little less than half but keep in mind, at least on the weekend, the rates renew every 12hrs.

Fantastic clean, modern decor. Gorgeous courtyard, pool and deck overlooking the water. Great restaurant on site - they even serve breakfast by the pool! About 1.5mi from Miami Beach - an easy jog/walk or you can take the bus. Closest shops, restaurants/bars are at least .5 mi away. The room could have been cleaner and the bar on site closed at midnight which was disappointing.

Pros: - fantastic pool and spa, much better than any other big luxury hotel on Southbeach, including the W. - relaxed, romantic atmosphere - large, stylish bathrooms and private outside hottub on veranda (make sure to book a wet room) Cons - service extremely relaxed - room lacked table and closet, not much storage space - TV small - crowd is composed of [*] and retired people seeking spa treatments Conclusion: ideal, unique hotel for [*] and heterosexual couples who prefer privacy, but not for heterosexual party people.

Nice South Beach area location with easy walk to fine stores and nightlife.

  • Jan 28, 2012
The room was a suite, but lacked nice furniture in the living room area. There was an old dirty couch a small work table and a coffee table, along with 3 bar stools randomly sitting in the corner. The heat and A/C could not be regulated, and the WIFI connection was very erratic. Parking was by a private valet service, which was very late bringing us our car when we checked out. Overall, a very ordinary budget hotel at best, but not a four star by any stretch of the imagination!

It was only alright

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite with ensuite bathroom. First impression was that the room is large, clean and pleasant. The king size bed was very comfortable and the air conditioner was very effective. However, be prepared for the extremely loud pipes in the bathroom. I understand that the building is old. But I don't think that every old building in the Art Deco district would suffer from the same affliction. Surely pipes can be fixed? The only way to alleviate the noise (it sounded like whales singing - no exaggeration), was to turn the hot water tap on which was a huge waste of water. Also, the internet in the rooms weren't working. We had to continuously go to the foyer to connect to the internet. When both problems were mentioned, staff were very apologetic but nothing was done about it. One of the receptionists promised that they would do something about the resort fee of USD15 a day, but when we checked out, we found out that they had charged this fee to my credit card. I have yet to amend this. lastly, the Astor website mentions a Fitness Centre. The only fitness I got out of the hotel was climbing the stairs to my floor. Please note that they do have elevators, but we chose to use the stairs. So in summary, there is no fitness centre although reception mentioned they share a fitness centre with a sister hotel down the block, but that fitness centre only has a treadmill and minimal weights. To end on a positive note, the Astor is in an excellent location. Close to Lincoln Ave, Collins Ave and only 2 blocks from the beach.

I just spent the last 3 days at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa and i thought it was perfect. Friendly staff & Valet. Food was OK at breakfast buffet, however a little pricey around 50$ for 2 people at breakfast. But other than that, the Junior Suite was clean and spacious and LOTS of walk in closets. Overall, had a great time and stay. Front desk was very helpful for a broken remote and late night food services. I would definitely stay there again.

My brother and I decided to visit Miami Beach while he was visiting the USA from Buenos Aires (I live in upstate NY) and found[...] a good package including hotel and air fare for 5 days. The hotel was a pleasant surprise, with friendly staff that did their best to help travelers with their needs and accommodate their requests. It is a family oriented hotel, very clean, and a block to the beach...which was a huge plus for us since we spent most of the time there. The location is excellent, within 2 miles from the excitement of South Beach but far enough from its noise. The concierges were very friendly and helpful, particularly Douglas, and we spent great times watching the Copa America soccer matches at the bar chatting with Jorge, the bartender, who is a huge fan of Argentina's soccer players and extremely friendly. We had dinner a couple of times there and their salmon is superb. The hotel provides beach towels and free chairs at the beach. We would definitely go back.

I reserved my hotel months in advance and prepaid I arrived at 8pm The room I reserved with a king bed was not available. I was shown another room that was dark and gloomy at night and also in the day because it was long and narrow. The next day I was shown a much smaller room on the ground floor and opted to keep my room in the back on a higher floor because I thought it would be quieter The staff was very nice The room was clean and tidy The sink in the bathroom is under a cabinet that comes out 12inches from the wall. This makes it difficult to shave and brush your teeth without hitting the cabinet. The room was on the alley and so the garbage trucks were the alarm clock every morning at 7am I do not recommend the hotel on Sat night as the alley was also a scene of screaming arguments at 2, 3:30 and 4 AM The photos on line are deceptive regarding the charm and coziness of the rooms

For the price of our stay it's what I was expecting. However some of the other hotels on ocean in the same star category have a bit more charm and are more spacious! However the girls and I were there to party so since the room was just a place to sleep and shower it was perfect. The location put us in the heart of the party at night and on the beach during the day!

The staff at the hotel was extremely pleasant and welcoming. The hotel is very basic. It has just the bare necessities, but the price reflects that. The hotel's location is right in the middle of all the action. Doesn't get any better. The hotel is not luxurious by any means, but most hotels in South Beach are the same. The only issue we had during our stay was that the hair dryer kept shutting off while in use. Another negative was that the hotel does not have an elevator, but it wasn't a huge issue. The food and drinks were great. I would definitely stay there again.

we were supposed to get 2 queen size beds. we ended up with just a king (for 2 adults + 2 kids). they gave us a rollaway bed for just one of the kids. we had to continuously ask for more towels. c'mon, we asked for them the first day, with 4 people don't you think we would need them every day as well? overall, not bad. we had a side view of the ocean, but it was nice to just get out of the hotel and within 100yds the ocean was at your feet.

  • Nov 14, 2010
Went down to Miami to visit friends and family. The hotel was perfectly located on the beach and on lincoln Road which is a tourist mecca for shopping and restaurants. The pool area is just the right size, not so big like the fountain bleu or too small like a boutique hotel. Loved the afternoon treats that they bring around to all of the pool patrons. The hotel was very well laid out and the service was very good. We did the spa one day which was OK but not up to par with other Ritz Carlton locations I have stayed in. Here is what needs to be improved: The security was laking. The gate to the beach was always open from the beach. When I reported it to the desk, the first person told me it was to make sure guests do not get locked out. I thought that is what gates are for. If guests do not take their key, that is their responsibility- I thought. Considering the homeless loiterers who hang out on the beach just outside the gate, this concerns me. Also, when we asked for more room keys, we were never asked for IDs, only what room number and our name. So anyone with your name who got your room number could have gotten a key to your room. The menu available for lunch was also very limited, not even a hot dog or club sandwich listed anywhere, otherwise it was a very pleasant experience. I might consider looking at another hotel for comparison though.

I checked in really late to miami, and they gave me a corner room on the first floor, but since I was staying few days they changed my room the following day. I got the corner room on the third floor, all the way in the back, farthest from the elevator, but had two windowed corner and a view of the pool. It was pretty neat. They play music way past midnight, but didn't really bother me. Cleanliness is okay, the building is kinda old but it's art deco, you know. Bathroom is not up to date modern, but gets the job done. The pool, proximity to the beach and convention center, Lincoln Rd and Espanola Rd is the best amenities, plus the esspresso bar.
