Travel to Marco Island
Spanning 10.6 square miles, Marco Island is the largest barrier island within southwestern Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands. The island’s main attraction is Crescent Beach, but you’ll also find a variety of shops to explore as well as a marina. Find great deals on Marco Island hotels at Orbitz.com.
Crescent Beach
With white-sugar sand, lots of sun and the gentle sound of rolling waves, it’s easy to see why most of the island’s hotels are located along the southern portion of Crescent Beach. The resorts that line the beach, such as the Hilton Marco Island Beach Resort and Spa and the Marco Island Beach Resort, feature everything from private golf courses to full-service spas. Depending on the size of your suite and the time of year you travel, staying at one of the hotels and resorts on Crescent Beach costs between $199 and $700 per night. When you’re finished lounging in the sun, you can go windsailing or parasailing in the Gulf of Mexico. The hotels and resorts along Crescent Beach are also in proximity to the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The reserve is comprised of 110 acres of land, including the northern portion of Crescent Beach. Visitors will find a variety of endangered wildlife throughout the reserve’s protected waters, uplands and a pristine mangrove forest. Tourists visiting the reserve can take a 2-hour guided kayak tour of the bays and browse the interactive exhibits in the Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center.
Inland Hotels
If you’re looking for more affordable hotel accommodations, you’ll find lower priced hotels in and around the heart of Marco Island. Staying inland is also a good choice if you want to browse the stores in the Marco Town Center Mall, play golf at The Rockery at Marco’s public golf course or view some of the town’s remaining turn-of-the-20th century buildings. The inland hotels have a variety of amenities for guests, including outdoor swimming pools, barbeques and fitness facilities. Depending on which hotel you choose and whether you’re traveling during the peak or off-peak travel season, staying at a hotel in the heart of Marco Island costs between $129 and $189 per night. If you’re planning a romantic trip and looking to save a few dollars, then consider the Olde Marco Island Inn & Suites, housed in a Victorian-style building that dates back to 1883. It’s considered one of Florida’s most romantic resorts and features an on-site restaurant, bar and spa. Not far from the Olde Island Inn & Suites you’ll find Café de Marco, located in a building that was originally constructed to accommodate the maids who worked at Captain William Collier’s Olde Marco Inn. The restaurant is known for its mouth-watering seafood dishes, including baked fish with mushrooms and linguine topped with vegetables in a lobster sauce.
