The motel was near the cruise terminal. The pool area was a delightful place to sit outdoors and visit with the other people with whom we were traveling. There was a place in the shade where we were comfortable and could relax.

The location was great. We arrived at the airport and then went on a cruise so the shuttle service was very important for us. The rooms were very clean and the staff was more than helpful. Of course the time back from the cruise did not match the time for the hotel arrival but the staff allowed us to store our baggage until the room was ready. Over all a very enjoyable experience. Thanks.

If it was not for the great location, I would have been totally disapointed. Other features, no bugs of any kind.
Did not have a balcony, water was scolding hot in the bathroom, wouldn't recommend for small children. Strong odor to hide bad odor. Was on the 5th floor, elevator out for 24 hours. Had to use the stair and key was deactivated the same day. Curtain didnt close all the way, letting people see into the room, of which a big mirror was able to let people see us sleeping etc.

The staff was not very attentive. We checked in early and they held our bags, which was nice, and upon return to get our room key, we stood at the counter for at least 15-20 minutes while the employee took care of people that came up to the counter AFTER us. Customer service was not good at all but we just needed a place to stay for one night. It was NOT that busy either.

This hotel is very nice. Could use some maintenance. Beach was very eroded and not good for laying out. Pool area was nice. Food was pretty good. Beds were comfortable. Staff was willing to please. Note that there is a $24.00/day valet parking fee if you choose to have a car there. If not, plan on eating at the hotel or walking a good 2 miles or more each way to local restaurants. There is a bus, but sketchy at night. One night we were there, there was a wedding rehearsal dinner at the pool, but it was around 7:00 and didn't impact us except they started setting up for it around 4:30. I would recommend this hotel compared to others in the area, but wouldn't recommend Ft. Lauderdale on the whole.

- May 15, 2012
The hotel was great for being on somewhat of a budget. The rooms were clean and so was the hotel -the hallways needed an update more than anything they seemed outdated and gave a bad impression, so the rooms were actually a nice surprise after that. There are plenty of lounge chairs out by the pool and tiki bar but the nicer ones with umbrellas and anything on the beach had to be rented. The staff was great and super friendly. You can't beat the location, right on the beach and a $5 cab ride from a bunch of restaurant/bars

Only good if you're low on money

Let's face it.. this hotel is old and needs work. I went there in 2010 and arrived late at the hotel with my father. We specified in our reservation that we wanted a NON-smoking room..we got a room on the smoker's floor. It smelled terrible and we had to bear through a night of fumes until they gave us a better room. The next room we got was a little bit better and had an updated bathroom. However, the balcony is hardly a balcony because it's separated only by one cement bar..so anyone could just go onto your balcony. The beds were uncomfortable. This hotel really isn't what it used to be, and it is just really old.
However, if you're looking for a fun vacation in a good location, this hotel has that. It's in the heart of Ft. Lauderdale, within walking distance of a Dunkin Donuts, some nail salons, and a souvenir shop. The pool and jacuzzi are nice as well as the Tiki Bar. The beach is nice but it is a little small and gets crowded. The water sports offered are great and fun. This hotel is minutes from Ft. Lauderdale hotspots (Las Olas, A1A Blvd) and close to the airport. There are always a lot of people at this hotel (spring break) and so it's always "alive", which we liked. I don't mean it's full of rowdy college kids though. There are many families and young college kids too. Although the rooms aren't too great, the location can't be beat and there is a lot to do in that area.
Although we had a good time at the hotel, I wouldn't recommend because personally, I prefer the room to be a little more clean and updated.

I enjoyed a spacious room and a view to the ocean from my King Studio Suite. After a day at the beach (within 10min walk) the hot tub by the pool was very welcoming. The pool was open until dusk and if I wanted to exercise in the gym or visit the steam room, there was easy key-card access with unrestricted hours. I always keep odd hours when I'm on vacation, so I appreciated the flexibility and great room service when I wanted to dine in. I highly recommend staying at the Il Lugano Hotel.

surprise birthday get away
-
Kel Bell
- Nov 22, 2011
I decided to surprise my boyfriend for his birthday with a get away to Florida. Being extremely impulsive I booked the hotel with only a few moments reviewing it online. I was very nervous after reading most of the reviews because they were quite negative. But this was a TERRIFIC trip for a relaxing trip! I asked for a balcony beach view room. Although there was no balcony, the view was a nice view of the beach that stretched from side to side. We were on the 6th South tower floor so we were above the trees and the beach tower's roof (which could very likely block a lower rooms view). I ordered champagne and a slice of chocolate cake to our room and not only was the cake delightful, the server came back with a bowl of strawberries after I told him it was my boyfriend's bday. The beach was a couple of steps down from the pool and a guy greeted us with towels and followed us down to show us our chairs and made them up for us. The only down side was it wasn't as close as the other hotels to the main strip of restaurants, but the other hotels weren't right on the beach either. It was only a 15 minute walk to my favorite restaurant so it wasn't that far down. The hockey game wasn't on in our room but we just walked downstairs to The Wreck Bar in the hotel where they had plenty of tv's and stations for everyone. We got to watch our Pens lose to the local Panthers, but who can complain when your in paradise?

Overnight Stay

Ms Met
- May 14, 2012
My husband and I stayed overnight after spending the day at a Miami Marlin/NY Met ballgame. We are return customers. The first room that we had was moldy & mildew smelling. I requested a change of room. I was accommodated with no problem. The staff was very nice and paid careful attention to our needs. We were also promised free internet access and after questioning why we were being charged for the service, the internet fee was removed. The room that we stayed in was much cleaner smelling. We actually had a very comfortable nights sleep and will probably stay again the next time we go to Marlin's Stadium. The hotel is conveniently located right off I-95. Overall it was a good overnight stay.

This a great location if you are cruising out of Ft Lauderdale as it is very close to the peirs. The hotel is nice and very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The room service food was very good, however, the staff it seems to have had difficulty understanding English and did not send us what we ordered. We were there on a rainy day and were awoken in the morning by someone using a leaf blower to dry off the passage way outside our room, which went on for about half an hour :( . I felt the price of the room was a little high for the room we were given as we were not in one of the tower rooms with a balcony but would probably stay there again.

I stayed at the Universal Palm for 4 nights, we were down from NJ for a quick couple days in the sun. We rented a hotel and the beach is about 10 blocks up the road. Great access to I95, close to the casino and a 40 minute drive to miami. The hotel it self has a cute pool and resturant. Only complaint was the noise, the walls must be so thin and the hotel is close to the train track which woke me up at least one time a night. Otherwise, great stay, clean place, great staff.

Nice Hotel
-
Jaymee10377
- Apr 16, 2012
We stayed for one night prior to a cruise and the hotel and staff were nice, however, I do not think it is a $200 per night hotel. Also, the info on the hotel states that they offer a courtesy shuttle from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the pier, but it is not complimentary and id $7 per person each way. When I inquired about this, I was told that the shuttle would have to be part of your package when you book in order to be complimentary. This is a little misleading... It was in a good area-lots of neat restaurants within walking distance.

The hotel was in good location for what we needed. Close to the airport, spacious rooms, and breakfast included. One big concern was the cleanliness of the pool. But the value for the room was pretty good. The room didn't smell fresh when we first arrived, my husband had to borrow housekeeping's spray and spray the room.

I am a short person and found the bed in my room way too big, in height to get into. Had a difficult time getting in the bed and getting out. Guests should have a choice of what kind of bed they prefer. If there was another room with a different bed in it, it should have been offered. Otherwise everything else was perfect.

Posh hotel, service could be better

Amazing location on the beach, gorgeous amenities, staff was very nice but needs training - my room was not ready at 4pm, concierge couldn't operate the computer, manager was stressed out, the front desk was a little rude. Kudos to the cafe staff consistently excellent service and remembered my order from the day before! But what's up with the $30/day parking - seriously?? All in all, pricey but a good value thanks to the Orbitz discount.

So pleased with this hotel. Perfect location for me, closest to family I was visiting. My hotel and room was so clean and bright. The bed and linens were really comfortable. Six minutes from airport, and never felt like it created air traffic noise.

The location on the beach is great. The restaurants are also great. The hotel needs better management. They may need more staff. I experienced people storming out of the lobby unhappy on several occasions. I myself considered finding somewhere else to stay. STAY HERE IF YOU ARE ON A SERIOUS BUDGET. EXCEPT PARKING IS VALET ONLY ($40/WEEK, PLUS TIPS). FREE PARKING ACROSS THE STREET. BEACH CHAIRS ARE FOR RENT. BEACH TOWEL $5 DEPOSIT EACH DAY, REFUNDED WHEN TOWEL RETURNED.

I read some negative reviews before my trip but still booked due to the location and price.
Pros:
location (on the beach)
price (cheap based on location)
on site bar/restaurant
Cons:
-cleanliness (wore flip flops in the indoor shower throughout the entire trip)
-hotel guests
-housekeeping - twice my room wasn't restocked/cleaned until I called the front desk at 6pm
I started my stay on a Thursday and ended on a Tuesday in March 2012. Thursday and Friday were enjoyable until the college Spring Breakers came. I'm 25 and I found all the students beyond obnoxious. The elevators broke down several times, they broke exit signs, pulled fire alarms at midnight and ran down the hallway at 4am screaming their college slogan.
I would never stay at this hotel again. Some of the spring breakers were kicked out but they should invest in security guards on each floor during the entire month of March.

My Florida Trip
- May 8, 2012
Our stay at the hotel was just what we wanted. The breakfast buffet was great; there was no reason to go anywhere else for breakfast. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of pillows provided. The room was clean and all the amenities were provided. When locating the hotel, the sign which shows where to turn is very small and hard to see; that is the only suggestion is that the sign should be larger. I would definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Ft. Lauderdale.

This Marriot is a good hotel. It is great if you have a rental car or other transportation. About 15 min to the air port or beach. The beds were comfortable and they said the pool was open 24 hours though I didn't use it. There is also free parking here.

Overall was a good experience at a great value. The pool is very small and not worth it but with the ocean and beaches so nearby not a big deal at all. The room and kitchenette was great. It was kind of a shock when I realized that for daily room service you had to pay an additional 3.99 per day?? But since the place was so affordable not a huge deal. The only negative was that the a/c made me sick after 2 days there. The manager was apologetic but not otherwise helpful.
