2 nights at the B Ocean Hotel

Overall, a great experience. The staff at the front desk as well as room service were all very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were well appointed with a very slick and pleasing modern feel. The view from the enormous window out on to the ocean was fantastic. Only minor quibbles that led to an "average" rating on the Amenities: * Workout facility/gym was subpar. 3 treadmills, one bike, and a very old piece of universal weight equipment that did not operate smoothly. * No business center. Wi-fi is included for free in the rooms which is great but as I only had an iPad with me I went searching for a desktop with a printer that I could use. No luck * No mini-bar. What can I say, I had a hankering for a beer fairly late one evening but nothing was on hand. All in all, very minor concerns and certainly not enough to detract from what I thought was an excellent stay at the B Ocean. Would definitely stay there again.

It was a nice location by the beach with a friendly staff. The rooms are old and the bedding is sub-par. Loud air conditioner and damp musty feel to the room. Strange room safe charge adds a touch of the ridiculous to the checkout experience. It was in the budget, though.

Great location with excellent customer service. The rooms are a bit dated, they could definitely use a bit of upgrading especially the carpeting. But the price was good for the value and you just can't beat the location. The shopping and dining map provided at check in is very detailed and the in-hotel restaurant Indigo provided a decent menu and good pricing as wel.

Don't understand the complaints. Three of us stayed in the older section as part of a package deal. The rooms were clean, well appointed, and quiet as Grant's tomb. One of the rooms had a problem with the regulation of the hot and cold water coming from the shower and when we complained we were given a replacement room in the new tower section. Indigo restaurant rapido and good for breakfast.

We were upgraded to King suite on inside which was nice and kept us sheltered from the railroad tracks next door. Staff was friendly and room was clean. First issue was slow draining shower and bathroom sink; reported it but nothing done to correct. We read there were issues, but ankle deep in shower a little excessive. Also found out that booking on-line negates "free" continental breakfast. Not that we missed much, but information should have been provided at booking. The TVs were updated flatscreens but the cable service still lacking. Still fit our budget and was close enough to where we wanted to be. Good value overall.

Not What an Accessible Room should be

  • Bobby the Bear
  • Sep 3, 2012
In April 2012, I was at this hotel because I found at great senior rate of $89 a night earlier in the year. Everything was excellent except the floor is all tile (except around the bed, there is a mat type carpeting in which I have stumbled over a couple a times) and there are at times I had almost fell down because when I take a shower in the walk-in shower (no tub) which I have asked for can be very slippery, I had to hang on to everything. The staff were excellent in helping in trying to get an accessible taxi to the ship as I was renting a powerchair for this trip and on the cruise. Will I stay at this hotel again? Probably not because there were no place to eat except the high priced restaurant.and the rooms are too dangerous as I have mentioned earlier.

Weekend getaway

  • Sep 17, 2012
The room we got at check in was not so great, overpowering smell of bleach and the you couldn't open the window. The staff gave us another room located in the second tower which was much nicer and you could open a sliding door and look out at the ocean. The bathroom is very strange, the shower has a half glass instead of a door so water gets all over and you are forced to get a shot of cold water when you turn the shower on. There is no privacy either b/c the doors are like wooden shutters. Otherwise a nice room. The pool was very nice, walkway to the beach was great, starbucks located in the building was great. Having to pay $25 a day for valet parking wasn't so great and even though we called ahead we still waited 10 minutes each time to get our car. Otherwise the staff was great and the hotel is pretty nice and right on the beach!

Fl trip.

Parking, good. Food really good and priced fair. (we had dinner and breakfast) Kitchen / bar areas looked really clean and tidy. great location and views. Hotel next door had Jet skies for rent with kayaks and other stuff. (and didnt charge $5.00 to sit in a hotel chair on beach) Room, VERY BAD. Dirty floor and trim, (white trim is nice, but not nice if its dirty and looks to have never been cleaned) bathroom door broke, hotel room phone broke. Broken floor tiles with exposed rough sharp edges. Questionable electric (holes drilled through walls to power the fridge and micro wave (both dirty) Pool outside bar area and beach were nice and clean. Very Good bar outside staff, however we waited 10 minutes for the front check in guy to show up. Not a good image for any hotel. (seen him as a regular in rear bar area after check in and throughout night, not at station or even in the hotel area, in uniform "Drinking and smoking" off and on.) Our entire 2nd floor wing, had a really strong, fresh weed-pot smell. It was kinda sad, this could be a really nice place to stay with the basic cleaning and repairs. It looked as if at least out room was recently re-done. Very Nice tiles, shower, vanities, lighting. Over all very nice material was used. HOWEVER it all looked like a 12 year old installed all of it. My 12 year old can paint better than the people whom did my room. On one wall alone there were over 8 big roller marks of the wall color on the ceiling. Very poor quality workmanship. I truly hope they didnt actually pay someone to perform the work. If they did and you are in construction, I assure you that you could get a lot of work there alone.

Amazing location on the beach, gorgeous amenities, staff was very nice but needs training - my room was not ready at 4pm, concierge couldn't operate the computer, manager was stressed out, the front desk was a little rude. Kudos to the cafe staff consistently excellent service and remembered my order from the day before! But what's up with the $30/day parking - seriously?? All in all, pricey but a good value thanks to the Orbitz discount.

Great Hotel on a private beach

  • Billy9090
  • Sep 5, 2012
We were greeted by a friendly staff, but were not upgraded when we checked in because the hotel was totally booked. The surroundings were beautiful. It is right on a private beach. Our room was okay - we asked for a beach view and got a view overlooking the street instead. There was music everywhere outside which I found a little annoying - it's as though we can't get away from mood music long enough to actually be able to hear real sounds that one might encounter when in nature. There were a TON of kids here and the pool was incredibly crowded. You couldn't really swim in it (there were literally at least 75 people in that pool at all times of day, most of which were under the age of 12). Other than that, had an excellent time at the resort. The restaurants were incredibly overpriced but the food was not a letdown.

Nice Hotel

  • Jaymee10377
  • Apr 16, 2012
We stayed for one night prior to a cruise and the hotel and staff were nice, however, I do not think it is a $200 per night hotel. Also, the info on the hotel states that they offer a courtesy shuttle from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the pier, but it is not complimentary and id $7 per person each way. When I inquired about this, I was told that the shuttle would have to be part of your package when you book in order to be complimentary. This is a little misleading... It was in a good area-lots of neat restaurants within walking distance.

The hotel was in good location for what we needed. Close to the airport, spacious rooms, and breakfast included. One big concern was the cleanliness of the pool. But the value for the room was pretty good. The room didn't smell fresh when we first arrived, my husband had to borrow housekeeping's spray and spray the room.

If you're looking for a modern, luxurious resort experience, ahem, don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, you will be sorely disappointed. This place was no doubt Very Nice at some point. Presently it is not. A local told me Jacky Gleason used to practically 'live' here. So maybe in the late 70's/early 80's? Whatever, a long time since this place was nice. Examples: 1 of 3 elevators running. Other 2 not being repaired, they just use the 1 (and apparently it does the job okay as a result of lack of guests?). Hot water (to 8th floor) TEN MINUTE WAIT IN THE MORNING. Must be said both the food and staff VERY GOOD. Accommodations not so much. Overall value reasonably good though if you don't pay much.

Nice neighborhood. Clean and inviting lobby. Wifi is awful. Floors in hallways are badly stained. Food was average. Staff was OK. Had a guest next door that moaned 24 hours a day. Would have liked at that price to have a more relaxing experience. Would not stay there again.

The hotel is really pretty, and with a great location. Ft. Lauderdale is a much more liveable place than Sobe, and a more "beachy" florida kind of vibe than Sobe offers.

The Avalon was a great place to spend my spring break. The location was perfect and price was just right. The room was special, nothing too fancy, and perfect for the amount of time we spent in it. If you are looking for a nice five-star hotel, this is not the one. If you are trying to get away with some beach, sun and fun on a tight budget, this will do the trick. God bless the Avalon.

Every year we come to Ft Lauderdale to visit family, and we stay somewhere different each time. We can't afford much. As a result we've stayed at some unsavory places and some mediocre places. So far this has been the best place for the price. There was lots of room and everything was clean. We came in early and they took us right away. We never heard the train or noise from the street. We would stay there again.

2nd stay and I'll come back again

  • Rick from New York
  • Sep 10, 2012
It's a nice hotel with a friendly staff. I've checked in super late at night and they're always friendly with the greetings. The rooms are clean and beds have plenty of pillows. Starbucks brewed on premises (not an actual Starbucks, but pretty good), and a nice quiet bar area. Haven't tried the restaurant, but looks nice. Seems to have earned it's status. nicer than a Courtyard and some of the other Marriott's. There appear to be multiple 'party rooms' for celebrations and convention type stuff. Really close to i95 and across from huge shopping mall and restaurants. I'll be back again!

I recently visited Fort Lauderdale to visit family and friend allover Miami. On arriving I recieved a smoking room which I was quite unaware that I must have chosen in error because I was up to my neck in sinus medications. The sent a air purifier to the room for the duration of my stay since they could not transfere me to a non smoking room, I was very greatfull for this and Hoptons mirracle air freshner formula. The staff was always courteous and friendly and that made my frustrations with the situation dwindle to the back ground. My mothers sinus did start to act up though by the end of the trip.My 8 medication were workin miracles.Wish they would shampoo there carpets. And change the comforters and blankets with holes that was kinda disturbing.

I was eaten alive by Bed Bugs! Roaches were chasing me around the room. Phone cord to land line was cut! No Ashteay in the room.. Four hangers, and two had black mold on them. The floors made my feet black within minutes! I had to purchase odor absorbers for my room to the tune of 12 dollars. The compimentary computer made me pay $8.00 to e-mail guest Relations. This is the worst Hotel I ever stayed in in my life! I'm STILL trying to get my money back and it''s been 10 days already!

Awful

  • Mar 6, 2012
I often stay at Red Roof Inns, so when I had to visit the Fort Lauderdale area for two nights, I went to this one. What a mistake. Dirty, dead insects. Did not supply adequate towels or make bed. No complementary shampoo. Room not ready when I arrived well after posted check-in time. Noisy - right next to rail line. Hostile staff, except for one particular desk receptionist. Room rate was: $84.99 + tax. If I was a woman, I would not have felt safe. No reasonably walkable places to eat.
