What travelers to Dewey Beach are saying

We really didn't get much of an opportunity to experience it. We only stayed two nights. The first night we didn't get their until after 6, then went to dinner and down to Rehobeth Boardwalk. The next day was a total rain out.

good restaurants and nighttime music and entertainment for adults. Great place to rent SUP's and any watercraft. Not as great for kids. Best for adults.

Find day-to-night fun at Dewey Beach, Delaware

Dewey Beach is just two blocks wide, but it's chock full of things to do year-round. This sandbar community loves to play in the waters, and visitors and locals alike spend the summer surfing, sailing, windsurfing and swimming. The area is rich in marine life, and dolphin and whale watching are a popular way to pass the long, sunny days. Dewey Beach has a welcoming nightlife and is small enough that you can walk or bike everywhere. Evenings here cool off quite a bit, but bonfires and clam bakes will keep visitors toasty and entertained. If you're looking for a beach getaway with New England flair, Dewey Beach should hit the spot.

What to do

During the week, Dewey Beach is a quiet retreat ideal for couples and families with children. On summer weekends, the Dewey scene starts to thrive as people arrive from all over Delaware, and as far away as the D.C. area, to enjoy the island's fantastic beaches and famous nightlife.

Beach activities

With the beach in sight from every point on Dewey, it's no wonder that ocean-sports enthusiasts flock here every summer. Dewey Beach has all the beach activities you'd expect, like paddle boarding and windsurfing, but sailing is also extremely popular. If you've ever wanted to learn how to sail or have been yearning to get back on a sailboat, this is your chance. Lessons and chartered boats are available most days of the week.

When the sun goes down, Dewey Beach visitors enter full relaxation mode, especially on weekends. The area is full of restaurants like Whiskey Beach BBQ & Saloon and bars such as Bottle & Cork, which features live music. The beach sands play host to a variety of entertainment, including free movie screenings, the Dewey Beach Music Conference and regular bonfires.

Pick up the perfect memento of your trip or gift for a loved one, at one of the Dewey Beach shops that stock locally-made clothes, crafts and art. To make a day of it, get a free shuttle bus to neighboring Rehoboth Beach and its Boardwalk, which possesses the charm of an old seaside town full of gift shops, amusements and places to eat. Be sure to check out the beach before heading back to Dewey with a fresh-scooped ice cream in hand.

Where to stay

The town has a population of about 350 people during the winter and up to 30,000 in the summer, so it's worth booking your Dewey Beach hotel well in advance.

Despite the seemingly endless demand for them, Dewey Beach hotels are not overpriced, which is fantastic considering that most hotel rooms in the area are a block or less from the ocean, and offer visitors seaside views.

Hyatt Place

Perfectly positioned next to the beach and nearby restaurants, the Hyatt Place hotel provides a comfortable stay with a pool, gym and coffee shop.

How to get there

Dewey Beach is accessible from Highway 1, from both the north and the south. Parking in the area is limited, so visitors are encouraged to park on the mainland and take one of the various shuttles that are available to Dewey Beach. The entire town is very compact, so you'll be fine without your car for a little while. But if you do bring your vehicle to Dewey Beach, expect to pay for parking. For those flying in, the nearest airport is Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), located a two-and-a-half-hour drive away.
