Older hotel in excellent location in Washington. The cost was my reason for staying there. Needed something that allowed me to fly to Washington and stay within my budget. This meet the need. Do need to fix the milk machine. This was a problem. Considering the age the bathroom was a positive. Know your desire is to provide a comfortable place to stay and this was meet but I would suggest that you do some painting in the rooms. This would add to your hotel. Overall a good stay would stay again if I return.

Great deal for DC

We booked this hotel for one night before transferring to a much higher priced hotel for a conference I was attending for work. For under $100 in Washington DC, I have to say that it was a great deal. The room wasn't fancy, but it worked. The staff was very friendly and offered good advice on how to get to our tour of the White House.

Upon arrival the first thing we noticed was a pool with green water. Then once in our room there was a fly zooming around and would not leave. The a/c didnt really get cold either. The breakfast wad good and the office people were very friendly and helpful. Infact, the girl behind the desk went out to her car and offered us her umbrella because there was no doubt it was going to rain.

BATHROOM CLEAN, BREAKFAST ITS NOT SO GREAT BUT ITS OK FOR THE MONEY YOU PAY. IF YOU DONT WANT TO RENT A CAR AND USE ONLY THE SUBWAY, ITS NOT FOR YOU, IN THE SAME LOCATION, BETTER STAY AT MARRIOT HOTEL, NEXT TO THE SUBWAY STATION, YOU CAN GO LATE AND ITS NOT A PROBLEM BECAUSE THE MARRIOT HOTEL IS AT 10 STEPS FROM THE EXIT OF THE SUBWAY... Nice Weekend

I spent a Saturday night at this hotel. It is situated in a really nice area but there was no parking available on the street and I had to pay about $26 for garage parking in the basement of the hotel. The hotel is very elegant and the staff is very helpful and courteous. The hotel was worth the price. I would definitely reccomend this hotel to anyone.

It truly was a joy staying at the Normandy. The accommodations and staff were first rate. The extras, such as the wine and cheese reception, and the espresso machines in each room made me feel like one of the consulates living in the neighborhood. This hotel is a block from my office, and you can bet that I will be staying here again

This is a very basic hotel that is a nice spot to be able to drop and go when all you need is a shower and a place to sleep. Rooms are quiet and the housekeeping staff is wonderful. Some areas in the building are showing their age and wear but it was not our intention for this to be a spa and resort type of retreat.

The decor of the hotel is very interesting. We liked the shabby chic attitude and the trendy lounge & bar. The rooms aren't anything special, but the design and details are fun and pleasant. The king bed was very comfy. I'd recommend it as a change of pace from the ordinary.

Great hotel

  • ClareR
  • Nov 4, 2012
We had a great time at this hotel. The only criticism from my husband was that there were no coffee making facilities in the room. We were there during superstorm Sandy and the hotel did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible while we couldn't leave. It was very much appreciated. In a great location, for the price it was very close to the White House and the National Mall. It is also very close to DuPont Circle the vibrant gay district of Washington DC. The staff were friendly and the head housekeeper made a point of checking that we had been happy with the service on the day we left. We had. I would happily stay here again.

Our experience was great once we found it. The signage from the Metro was dreadful despite being situated directly above it. It was easy when we found the quickest way. There was a big food court beneath the hotel, very convenient for breakfast and reached from the lobby by the world's slowest lift. There is also a post office and a few shops near the food court. It is a very convenient location for sightseeing because of the Metro beneath, the Hop on Hop off bus stops outside, and it is two blocks walk from the Mall and Smithsonian museums. We found the immediate surroundings were a bunch of office buildings with sterile architecture. Very quiet outside at all times, but hardly any restaurants within easy walking distance. The hotel was a modern international type with busy lobby. Check-in was efficient but did not explain that the express lifts to the rooms required use of the room key card (a new one on me). Check out was quick. Room was excellent, though slightly worn decor, with balcony and side view of the river. Room contained safe, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron etc. Beds comfy. Room temperature was OK but could not be adjusted to individual taste at this time- reception said that heating was not on. Very quiet in room- no plumbing noises. Service was excellent: we had a maintenance problem with the safe which was attended to in minutes, although the housekeeping was lacking- did not replace all glasses and coffee. The lobby contained a Starbucks, A pub, and a restaurant. The food and service in the last two were excellent. Ask for Roberto in the pub- he looked after us well. The clientele was mixed- business, tourists, youth groups. There are TVs and lounge areas in the lobby. A big downside was the internet access. Wi-Fi was $12.95 per day, but three free terminals were available. Unfortunately these were as slow as the elevator down to the food court! Overall our stay was a good experience in a comfortable hotel.

The location doesn't get much better than this. It's down town and right on top of a metro station. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The hotel was a great place to stay. In the heart of D,C.. The only thing I was not prepared for was you had to use their parking and it was $ 45.00 a night. If I would have know that I would have parked my vehicle at the airport and used the metro.

We had a great time in DC. We only spent two nights there but enjoyed every minute of it. One great thing about the hotel was that it was in close to a lot of attractions. We walked to the White House as well as to the many restaurants available nearby. There's also a lot of great shopping only blocks away. I would definately stay here again on my next vist!
