Quick business trip

The first and most wonderful thing about this hotel is its location! So close to DuPont Circle, all of the eateries, and metro, but just a bit away to be out of the direct hustle. This combination was perfect! The staff was very helpful and efficient. I arrived way before check-in after a long red eye flight. The gentleman asked me before I could even inquire if I wanted to check in early. It was nice for once not to bear my soul about the dreadful flight I endured so they would take pity on me and let me in the room early. Good customer service. The room itself was small but nicely appointed. Here's my one complaint, I was next to what sounded like their laundry room. I really didn't pay attention until I was in bed that night. Unfortunately I am a light sleeper. I began counting "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi" between washing cycles. Now I could have gone down and requested a new room but the thought of packing up and moving was just too much. So I covered my ears with the nice comfy pillows. (the bed and pillows were extremely comfy!). So avoid room 804 if you are a light sleeper. Overall I liked the hotel and would stay again (just not in 804)!

Very impressed with the location of the Hotel. Staff were very helpful. Called for service when the remote to the television did not work and staff delivered a new one within minutes. Staff was very warm and friendly. The bed was very comfortable, room felt very clean. Size of the room was OK, on the small side but no real complaints. I would stay at this hotel again.

Hotel staff very friendly and helpful upon arrival. Didn't see too much of them afterwards. Don't expect to be able to park-very limited. Added another $140.00 to cost for parking(for 5 days). Not too far from Dupont Circle Metro stop. Historical district, lots of local eating places. Great to have access to microwave, refrigerator and mini-stove. Safeway not far so getting supplies was easy. Found shower tile a little slippery so be careful.

"Embassy Inn" Stay

  • Philadelphia Lawyer
  • May 13, 2012
The staff was very nice, friendly and professional. The room I stayed in, however, #405 was tiny, the bed sagged a great deal in the middle (and should be replaced asap) and there was NO closet. Only a hat rack in the corner with one hanger. I also requested a folding valet to place my suitcase on but was told none was available. The price was right but the lack of a closet and having to keep my suitcase on the floor was a bit too spartan. The big beautiful tree in the photo featured on this website is gone because of a large sewer construction project out front and to the right of the front door as you approach with a big hole with sheets of plywood over it. They are going to have to really clean up the front yard and do a face lift on the front of this hotel. It is more than a bit of a mess out front right now. The morning breakfast is a carbohydrate heavy menu: pastries, donuts, croissants, oatmeal, cereal, orange juice. The only protein available that I could tell was the milk for your coffee or cereal. The lobby just upstairs from the front desk is small but charming, however, and there is one PC to access the internet, though it is not hooked up to a printer and the only way to print out your boarding ticket is to email it to the front desk... which I declined. All in all, I would still stay here again but would make sure I got a better room with a closet and a folding valet for my suitcase. I would recommend it to a friend because the pricing is fair but I would mention the limitations (above). The location is convenient to night life and transportation.

The hotel in average is good, the only bad thing is thay we got a room just next to the reception so we could hear everything (loud phone ring, wall banging, conversations). So earplugs are a must. On the other hand, nice breakfast and staff.

I spent two nights at this hotel. It is about 3 blocks from the mall and the Vietnam Memorial and Lincoln monument. I jogged to the mall and the monuments one morning about 5AM. The room had a kitchen (which I never used) but would be great for a more relaxing stay. I was in meetings both days and didn't take advantage of the amenities.

I have to say that the Washington Plaza Hotel was located a few streets from the National Mall and the White House; this was the perfect place to stay in terms of location to all of the sites and sounds of Washington, D.C. My room was average size, but was comfortable. The only thing that I was unaware of was the $110.00 hold that the hotel placed on my debit card to cover services such as food and drinks at the bar and room service. All in all, I had a nice stay at the Washington Plaza Hotel.

Not bad, overall

Some of the staff were very helpful, another one was cranky and insulting when asked a question. The room was reasonably clean, although the floor looked as if it needed a good carpet cleaning. Breakfast could be better.

"This and That"

  • DC Mom
  • Feb 22, 2011
We stay at this motel frequently and have been very pleased with our past experiences. This visit was a bit diffenent . . . 1. Reserved a king size bed and got a queen sized bed. 2. The TV was so far away from the bed, you needed binoculars to see it. The TV reception was also bad. 3. The bottom sheet on the bed was too small and kept coming off - nice mattress pad. On a positive note . . . 1. The room was clean and the maid service exceptional. 2. We ate at the restuarant most days and thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. 3. When we needed a ride to the airport, the motel provided this. We truly appreciated this service. 4. All of the employees were great. 5. Ice and soda were available on all floors - wonderful!

Very nice!

  • Apr 24, 2012
This hotel was Very nice, the staff extra friendly, especially Carlos our breakfast waiter. Location was perfect as we could walk to everything in DC. Only 2 things which ruined our vacation budget: 1. $40 a day to park which the hotel cannot control. 2. We were told that breakfast was included in the room fee. I even asked our first morning and was told "yes, just give them your room #." It was not included! We were charged $46 a day plus tip and we were staying 5 nights! We did not know until the last day when our Visa account was charged with the total. Not a pleasant surprise. But the hotel was spotless and friendly

Great hotel...but a really poor location.

  • Casual Traveling Student
  • Apr 10, 2012
The experience at this hotel was a mixed bag. I had read some other reviews online, but none of them prepared me for the location that this hotel was situated in. It was at the outskirts of a very rough neighborhood, (one day I had to take a detour around the scene of a homicide that happened two blocks up the street). I did not feel comfortable going outside of this hotel at night, as all of the surrounding buildings had bars on every window and there were virtually no streetlights. The hotel itself was fine, the room was very clean, and the bed was nice and comfortable. The cable selection was limited, but it was a nice flatscreen with HBO and ESPN so no complaints there. The Restaurant was overpriced and the bar selection was limited to beer, wine, and soda. I ate two meals there, and the food was very bland and the wines were not worth the price paid. All in all, it was a very nice room, and during the day the location was fine and pleasant, but especially if you are traveling alone or with small children, I would be very careful walking around this hotel's neighborhood after dark.

The hotel was nice. Close to downtown, but not downtown. Close to a Metro station, but not close to restaurants. A little older hotel, but everything was clean. The A/C didn't work as well as it should. The Manager was great - very helpful. The hotel restaurant didn't have a lot of choices on the menu, but their food was fantastic. The only way to get to the airport from the hotel is by taxi - no airport shuttle.

The hotel is very near to the DuPont circle (only two blocs away) the room was nice Be careful! Even so we booked hotel with breakfast this hotel have no breakfast included. We paid usd 85- for a very small family breakfast that was less than average. The big goal was the hotel location and that was the important issue. For a place to stay with children’s it was nice and good. Try avoiding a room located near by the elevator! The noise was terrible

Aside from the bathroom lighting, which is horrible (i.e. practically nonexistent), I have nothing but great things to say about this hotel. The staff is friendly enough, but more importantly, they stay out of your way and give you privacy. And the location could not be any better, as the hotel is literally in Dupont Circle.

This is the 2nd time I stayed at this hotel, my only complaint is whoever was cleaning my room this time was very inconsistent...I had to there was no was cloths one time, the shampoo and soap wasn't replaced when it should have been, tissues weren't replaced...The first time I stayed here everything was excellent. I would probably stay here again though.

This was our first visit to D.C. and we only had one day so location was important. The Liason Capital Hill was a great choice for the location and it was a bonus that it was such a great value! The hotel is beautiful and clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The Restaurant Art and Soul was fantastic. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and plan on staying there the next time we are in Washington DC.

The room was very nice: quiet, comfortable, decent-sized, stylish but not over-the-top. Staff was very nice, but they often seemed a little shorthanded. Location is excellent, just a block and a half from Union Station. Worked out well for our weekend getaway with a young child.

Very European feel. Appreciate the wine tasting and the espresso made in the room or the hotel's lounge area. Room was small but clean and modern. Breakfast is available but they don't advertise the $16 price.

Wonderful hotel to stay at in Washington, DC

We stayed for seven nights at the Normandy. The staff was extremely helpful and made us feel welcome. We were unfamiliar with the city and asked many questions. They were courteous and friendly. Our room was very clean and housekeeping was thorough. The room was small but the hotel has an inviting lobby. It is in a beautiful neighborhood and within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and public transportation. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Normandy.
