Aspen Hotels

Aspen is a ski resort town in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. For those prone to altitude sickness, it is recommended that you fly into Denver and spend a day or so getting used to being mile-high and then driving the next 3,500 or so feet up. Aside from the plentiful ski resorts, Aspen is also home to the John Denver Park, named aver the renowned folk singer who called the area home. Lyrics from his most popular songs are inscribed in the creek-side boulders in the park. Just outside Aspen, the Maroon Bells are one of the most photographed mountain scenes in Colorado. The lake and views of the 14,000 foot peaks are spectacular. Independence Pass is open to vehicular traffic during the summer months. The drive takes visitors up to the Continental Divide, passing some of the most beautiful scenery in the area along the way.

Downtown Aspen has an abundance of shops for every price budget. The downtown area also has two pedestrian-only streets lined with souvenir shops. Of course, Aspen is a great place to buy ski equipment and clothing. The city also has an open air market in the summer months. Snowmass Village, Aspen’s smaller neighbor, also has its own shopping precinct, fitted with numerous candy shops, souvenir, and ski shops.

The bed was super comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a little tight, but who vacations in the bathroom. The staff was very friendly, offering an umbrella and spot on restaurant recommendations. Perfect distance to downtown, we were able to walk but away from the noise.

Location and more...

We recently spent a very pleasant summer weekend at the Hotel Aspen. From the outside, it's a bit of a throw-back- the rooms open to outside corridors, no elevator to the second floor- but inside the room was very attractive with all the modern amenities- flat screen TV, coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, safe, big comfy bed and a small balcony with two chairs for relaxing. The pool area was beautiful, surrounded by cottonwood trees, and the water was heated. Breakfast is served every morning in an upstairs room with a big fireplace (not in use in June, of course) and consisted of a good variety of hot and cold. The staff was very friendly and helpful- when the pool man saw me show up for a swim, he came out to make sure the water was warm enough, and turned it up a bit just to be sure I'd be comfortable! Everything you could want is an easy walk away, but just far enough that you are not in the middle of noise. I also noticed many big ski lockers for snow season. Hotel Aspen would be a good choice in any season.

I stayed in one of the dorm style rooms at the St. Moritz. The room was small, the bed comfortable, the shared bathroom clean and pleasant. The experience of the hotel was all about the shared spaces, though. The lobby is spacious and full of comfortable chairs. Guests hang out and visit, trading tips on what to see and how to get around. Wine is offered in the afternoon, coffee in the morning. A pleasant buffet breakfast with lots of fresh fruit. The swimming pool doubles as a hot tub, a nice touch.

Our last visit to the Molly Gibson was 25 years ago. It was a pleasant place to stay then and we were very happy to find that it is still a good value. The staff couldn't have been nicer, the breakfast was superb as was the apres ski happy hour. Also, food for sandwich making and snacks was available in the a.m. so one can make a lunch to go and save the big bucks not having to buy lunch on the mountain. Very good bus service to the ski areas. Short walking distance to downtown. They were having heating system problems so we had to open our windows at night to keep from baking but this is a temporary issue. Bathrooms, at least ours, pretty snug. Our room had a great view of Aspen Mtn. Nice hot tub. We will definitely stay there again.

A small hotel, but the staff was very responsive. 'Continental' breakfast, exclusively. The bed was comfortable, and the room large enough. A good shower stall, but a little awkwardly accessed. The staff was VERY helpful with local attractions, and how to get to them, and restaurant recommendations.

Hotel Durant is a pleasant hotel with an excellent location in Aspen as most of the town easily is in walking distance. Staff was very pleasant and personable. Rooms are simple, with comfortable beds and nice bedding. Complimentary breakfast features bagels, pastry's, cereal, etc. The room I stayed in was located near an alleyway, so there was definitely some street noise. However overall I would recommend this hotel as a great value. 3.5 stars

If you're looking for some place to offer you a full experience, this probably isn't the place. If you're looking for a place backing up to the ski slopes, and only using it to wind down and sleep, then i'd say it's perfect. Comfy bed, simple bathroom, nothing too fancy, but it was clean, comfortable and great for the price.

This hotel was great for me and my two kids. We could walk to everything in town from here. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The furnishings and decor were dated but in very good condition and nice and clean. An expanded continental breakfast was included and while not anything special it is definitely a perk to have it included, especially with kids who want to eat as soon as they get up. Did not use the hot tub. Rooms might be a little cold in the winter. This place has an old ski lodge feel with big common living area.

Making the Right Hotel Choice in ASPEN

  • Delighted Aspen Traveler
  • Mar 12, 2012
Travelers to Aspen have a number of available hotel choices. The Gant is the best among them. It is fairly priced (although everything in Aspen is high). It is very centrally located to the central core of Aspen (restaurants, main lift to Aspen Mt, free skier shuttles to other Mts, the City Market, etc.), yet it is well positioned in the quieter, more sedate part of town -- which allows a true sense of escape. The rooms are comfortably sized, with wood-burning fire places and full amenities (including fitness area, heated pool, and hot tub). The omnipresent Gant van will take you -- free of charge -- anywhere in town you want to go. The staff simply COULD ... NOT... BE ... NICER, or more accommodating. And you are about 8 minutes from the airport. This really is THE best place in Aspen to stay.

Killer Location in Aspen

  • Frederic Bastiat
  • Aug 28, 2011
I couldn't have asked for a better location. The pool is really terrific. The continental breakfast (plus hard boiled eggs, bacon & sausages) was very tasty, and the kitchen staff was very pleasant. The staff was wonderfully accommodating. I had paid for the cheapest room and got one in the basement. It was a bit dark, had an English basement window that looked right out onto the street and had a weak wi-fi signal. I asked if I could switch to another room, and the very next day, they put me in a fantastic room on the third floor at no extra charge.

Great service

  • Family that loves Aspen
  • Nov 1, 2012
The most professional and helpful valet service that we have ever experienced in Aspen! We believe that our daughter's small stuffed animal got rolled into the sheets one night and could not be found after the 1st day of our trip. We asked about it as we were leaving for the airport. The valet guys followed up with the front desk/housekeeping for us, and after learning that housekeeping didn't have it, we left for the airport. Several blocks after we left, the valet contacted our hotel car driver to notify us that the beloved stuffed animal had been found and the driver turned around to pick it up for us!

The staff was very friendly and waited on us hand and foot. It was almost embarassing to have so much attention and be treated so well because we are just ordinary people. But they made us feel special. The location is in the heart of Aspen and close to everything.

Mellow Aspen Working Weekend

  • Maire C
  • Sep 6, 2011
Atmospheric hotel, great location, lovely service but happily not unctious. Complimentary upgrade to a Jr. suite. Room carpet looked a bit grubby - I guess it's the end of the season. The room bar isn't provisioned any more - or not in summer anyway. There was a loud vibration coming from the roof which they did not seem to be able to fix, but they immediately offered to move me to another room. The Library Lounge is a great spot for coffee or drinks.

Fantastic mini-vacation

  • Anonymous
  • Aug 13, 2010
My husband and I had a fantastic mini-vacation at this hotel in Aspen. We snuck away for a couple days and were extremely pleased with our experience here. The hospitality and service were FANTASTIC, the pool is the perfect little oasis - very private and relaxing, the food (and I had many different things) was EXCELLENT, the waitresses were extremely on top of it, very helpful, and friendly. The rooms were very comfortable. My only complaint is that a little more updating of this building would be preferable with new tile in the bathrooms, an outdoor facelift, etc., but that is just me being picky. The rooms were very stylishly decorated, the soaps were great, the animal print robes very cozy, and the bed and pillows were VERY comfortable. We would definitely stay at the Sky Hotel again on our next visit to Aspen. Also, the location is fantastic.

Underestimated Luxury

  • Mr. Mike
  • Jul 7, 2011
Our first time to be spending vacation time in Aspen at this time of the year. Was booked in another hotel but had reservations problem, thus had to move out. First hotel we saw was Hotel Lenado and checked in without questions. Best devil-may-care decision. Lenado is cozy, VERY homey, breakfast that surprisingly reminded me of home back in Arizona from years back. Special applause going to the kitchen staff. Had them cook eggs in different ways and they did it right away! Our room was a bit smaller than what we were used to but it was comfortable enough. Bus stops right in front (very convenient since we didn't bring a car). Lenado is now included in my list of hotels to choose from on our next trip to Aspen.

My experience at Aspen Meadows

  • AdmissionsTraveler
  • Oct 6, 2009
I was in Aspen for the first time on a business trip; stayed at Aspen Meadows b/c Aspen Square was booked which is a more central location to resteraunts and shops. However, Aspen Meadows is only 6 minutes away and offers shuttles every half hour into town. The suites are great, very comfortable. I did not like that the parking is rather far from your room location. I had to carry boxes of materials, in heals, in the rain to and from my car and it was an unpleasant experience to say the least. My only complaint is that I shipped a box of materials prior to my arrival and upon checking-in the hotel claimed fault for misplacing the box and claimed it was lost. This was the worst possible thing that could happen as everything was in that box. It eventually was found later, but they offered no compensation for their error. I was definately dissapointed with their customer service.

So close to great

Staff was fantastic and accommodating. They made great recommendations for dining. Room was clean and decently maintained if not a little cramped. My main complaint is if you're staying there in the summer be aware of the heat. No AC + small room without a lot of circulation = rather unpleasant sleep. The little amenities like a good breakfast & wine and cheese reception weren't enough to save this place from a two star review.

Summer in Aspen

  • Barr
  • Aug 22, 2011
This was a great stay for a great price, compared to other options in Aspen. The hotel is just a few blocks from downtown Aspen, making everything no more than a 15-20 minute walk. The room, beds, and bathroom were clean and comfortable. There is a very comfortable feel to the common areas in the lodge, and the complimentary breakfast includes cereal, fruit, hardboiled eggs, waffles, and all manner of toast - definitely beyond your average continental breakfast. The staff were great, took care of a minor reservation mix up with no hassle, and recommended a great barbeque place for lunch just down the street. All told, a great experience for an exceptional value.

Nice, reasonably priced facility

Nice facility at a reasonable price! The desk clerk was extremely personable and helpful. Easy walking distance to downtown shopping and dining. Would have been better if pool and jacuzzi weren't closed for cleaning at the time of our stay. However, we would definitely stay there again!
