I always have good luck at Doubletree but this one was better than most. The room was huge, immaculate and very comfortable. It's always nice to have a fridge in the room (though I could have used a microwave too!). It was a quick 2 blocks to Third Street and the beach, making it a good choice for accessibility yet also very quiet. You pay a little less than the places right on the beach, which is nice.
The staff was great - can't beat getting warm chocolate chip cookies when you walk in! They were all very helpful and friendly and could arrange any day trips that we wanted.
The only thing missing was a better choice of tv channels....too heavy on the testosterone- cop shows and sports. There's only so much news I want to watch on vacation. Would have been nice to chill with HGTV/TLC/Bravo/Lifetime.....They even charged for on-demand! On the plus side- free WIFI.

Room is average - not bad for the price. The parking charge is $20/day and this is not indicated anywhere nor do they tell you. The location is great and the staff was very courteous. The location couldn't be better for Santa Monica.

This hotel is the perfect location for shopping and hitting the Santa Monica Pier. Walking distance to the thrid street promenade, Santa Monica Place and Main Street. Driving distance to Malibu, Hollywood and Venice. I enjoyed the stay but request a room on the opposite side of the hotel as Colorado Av as it is extremely noisy. If you dirve or rent a car, make sure it's small because the entrance is not easy to navigate off of Colorado and the garage is under the hotel so just be careful. The staff was excellent and very friendly.

the hotel location is not that great, specially at night, it is a dark area and bit far from the main activities. In the room the walls are very thin, you can hear everything people are saying in the other room, everything... And they have room that are sharing a wall with the elevator so everything is shaking each time somebody takes the elevator which happens often...

Great hotel, in a great location

This hotel is brand new. Situated right on the shore, and one block away from the 3rd street shopping area, it is in the perfect location.
We got a room with ocean view, which was really a partial view of the ocean, and part of the pool. Good enough.
The pool is heated, and we used it even it was the middle of December, and enjoyed it.
Parking is extra. ($30).
Rooms are spacious. We got a two queen bed, and there was a lot space. Bathrooms were very modern.
Overall it was an good experience. While not cheap, it was worth it.

Bellman and front desk staff have no idea of what they are doing. They hired a bunch of rookies with little experience, couldn't answer simple questions. Parking here is confusing. Just tell them you are self-parking, valet is a waste of money as it's in the same area. Rooms are beautiful and the hotel itself is in a great location. No food services here yet however across the street is 3rd street Promenade and a mall. I would stay here only if they hired some professional staff.

It was alright for the price. The rooms were clean. Our room backed the alley and homes so was kind of noisy. Parking is hard if you drive a full size truck. Staff was friendly. Short drive to beaches. We picked it for the convenience to UCLA and having smoking rooms so it met our needs.

The hotel exudes a quiet elegance. Its low rise building with the magnificent fig tree at the entrance is like a hill station in a Somerset Maugham novel. Fig restaurant is atmospheric and good. Staff are top notch from valet to housekeeping.

I love this hotel! First off, the location is wonderful, but what really was nice for me was the service and care that the staff gives. My room was gorgeous and clean. I will continue to stay at this hotel, when I visit Santa Monica again. Trust me you can not go wrong with this hotel!

Nicely restored 1933 Deco hotel on Santa Monica Beach. Easy walk to shopping and the beach and jump off expressway. Staff was nice and the bkfst on the veranda was entertaining

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We had an issue when we arrived because there were only rooms available with 1 king bed and we were a group of 3. They provided us with a roll-away bed for the night and then moved us to a room with 2 double beds the next day. The location to the beach and Santa Monica shopping and restaurants is perfect. We definitely will return.

Great service, nice hotel. But, it is not right on the beach like some of the other **** hotels, thus it is bit pricey. Big miss is the lack of a pool-side jacuzzi!!

Okay Overall but not very close to pier

We wanted to be close to the Santa Monica pier so since it is part of the title of the hotel we thought we'd be MUCH closer than we were. Other than that I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the room and was very happy with the breakfast. Not the fanciest of places for the price but it worked.

This hotel is a great value. The rooms are adequate - nothing special, but clean, and the bed was comfortable. The walls were a little thin - I could hear people walking in the room above us, and could hear the toilet flush in the room alongside. But we loved the location, right in the heart of downtown Santa Monica. Also, the valet parking fee was quite reasonable, and the desk staff person was really friendly and accommodating. We'd definitely stay there again!

i liked the embassy hotel in santa monica. the rooms were spacious and we enjoyed having a kitchen. parking is free, and there are many eateries within walking distance. if you're staying in winter or spring, i recommend having the hotel staff show you how to turn on the heat (vintage radiator) because they were a bit tricky. the only negative part of our stay was when a worker was scraping and painting some exterior ironwork on our windows at 8am. it was noisy, and at one point i was in the bathroom and there was the worker in my window. it was a minor inconvenience and i will definately stay there again when visiting santa monica.

My family stayed at the Embassy for a week, and it was fantastic. The one bedroom apartment had a fully equiped kitchen in which we cooked many meals and saved quite a bit of money by buying groceries instead of dining out. The rooms are very comfortable, fully furnished and generously sized. The rooms include built-in cabinetry and other architectural details and make each unique and special. It was more like staying in a lovely private home than a hotel. The location is superb--only two blocks to the Third Street Promenade to the south and two blocks to Palisades Park to the west. The building itself is an architectural treasure that has been impeccably maintained by the conscientious staff. Everyone at the hotel was very gracious and welcoming--the manager even learned our names and gave us plenty of practical help and advice. The housekeeping staff is extraordinary and work very hard to keep the hotel and guest rooms immaculate.

Simple But Functional

This place was a surprise - it looks bad from the road, but it's just a typical motel. Although it's run-down, it was clean and functional. Great location - you can walk to Central Santa Monica and the Beach in less than 15 minutes. I was pretty happy with my 5 day stay here.

We drove down from Sacramento for a wedding, and the room just wasn't clean. It smelled, the thermostat was broken off the wall, there was no local phone book or maps available. The parking lot is also very small with only one driveway - every morning I got up and held my breath as I walked out to the car, fearing that it had been hit overnight by other guests trying to navigate the tight space. Next time I come to Santa Monica, I will spend a little more money because I really missed the amenities and cleanliness.

This is a lovely, vintage hotel with extremely comfortable beds, windows that open to catch the sea breeze, staff that may be lacking somewhat in experience but makes up for it in effort and a fantastically convenient location. I have stayed at the Hotel Oceana (avoid at all costs) and the Georgian (my favourite) in the area and the Shangri-La is a solid competitor for the upscale market.

Stayed one night for business. Hotel was right price & location and I booked it just one week out. Not the cleanest or nicest hotel room, but had character, comfy beds and fun decor.
Not many power outlets in the room. Had to charge my phone in the bathroom, for example. Not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of.
Good service from the front desk. Continental breakfast is fruit & muffin selection with coffee station set up in lobby/desk area. "Free Internet" is here, on one computer, too.

There were several unpleasant surprises at this hotel. Arriving late I found out there was not sufficient parking for all guests and had to park at another hotel. There was one free terminal in the registration area to serve all the guests. There were refrigerators in the rooms but the temperature control knob was missing in mine. There was no thermostat for controlling room temperature. The toilet was incredibly noisey. When I did ask about a place to grab a late night drink I was told that the nearest bar was some 8 blocks away, tho next day I discovered one two blocks away. But the bed was incredibly comfortable. And access to the Santa Monica beach very handy. Also access to major highways was excellent. Both the 10 and Pacific Coast high way were a few blocks away and well marked with signage.

We were very happy with our choice to stay here. Our room was a bit dated and the advertised balcony was not really usable (size) but those are the only quibbles. I liked the location and the convenience of the provided "Taxi". You can safely walk to the nearby shops - we walked a couple of blocks to the Whole Foods for a bottle of wine. The hotel was very quiet and private - it was rare to see another resident except at the provided fresh breakfasts of fruit, pastry, breads, yogurt... The bathroom was large which my wife liked. The staff was always friendly and helpful and know the area - we got some very reliable restaurant recommendations and sight seeing advice. I'll definitely consider staying here again when we return.

For $103 dollars, it's the best deal around in pricey Santa Monica. The location is ideal -- our large window of our studio with kitchenette overlooked the Pacific and Santa Monica Pier. There are shops, restaurants, bars, theaters all around - including the famous 3rd St. Promenade. That said, however, there are reasons that this place is only $103. First, there's noise from the street below and nightclub, which shuts down about 2 a.m. My wife and I didn't mind the noise, however. As for the physical condition of the place, the building and rooms are old, but clean. It's the type of place where you might have to buy you own batteries for the TV remote. There's a small refrigerator and stove. There's only one small table, and one folding chair. The place could use another chair. But heck, what do you expect for $103? I would definitively stay here again.

Pool was heated, so even though it was 59 degrees we still hit the pool (although it could have been slightly warmer than 84 degrees - 90 degrees would have been better). They allow 24 hour pool access as long as you are quiet - which is awesome! The staff is very friendly, fast and attentive. We wished they had an outdoor hot tub - that would have made it perfect. If you are traveling with a group, make sure you bring your own mirrors. There were no mirrors at all in the room besides the ones in the bathroom (when someone was showering they got all fogged up and when people were using the bathroom you could not access the mirrors). They also need some type of gift shop that was the only thing odd. But overall I give 4 out of 5 stars!!!

The room was very nice, almost more of an apartment feel than a hotel, given how spacious it was. The only negatives with it were an extremely minor ant problem (I saw maybe a handful scattered across the room) and the minibar had a minibottle that was empty, which I had to point out to avoid getting charged for it.
The service was excellent. Everybody was very helpful and friendly. The only hiccups were that I had to mention that I had a food credit when I checked out to have it applied to my bill and there was a daily service charge that was not explained to me in advance.
But none of this would prevent me from staying at this place again.

This hotel was the cheapest I found after searching for weeks. $70/per nite gets you a small room with just enough space for 2 adults. Stay somewhere else if you're looking for a hotel that looks clean and is somewhat luxurious.
The decor did not match at all.. the bathroom was quite small, and can only fit 2 people at once if 1 person is using the toilet or shower, and the other person is using the sink. Im not kidding you.. it's just the way the bathroom was designed. In previous reviews I read prior to my trip, some said there weren't any towels, wash cloths, or even toilet paper available. This was not true in my case. I stayed for 6 nights and simply asked for new towels and toilet paper, and they were given to me without a problem.
The 2 men who worked there were both friendly and helpful with the different questions and requests I had. I asked about the possibility of renting a bicycle, the cost, location, etc. and the morning shift guy offered 2 let me use 2 of his bikes instead. He was also very informant of the public transportation that was available.
There's a few different buses that travel from the hotel to the Santa Monica Pier, the Promenade/Santa Monica Mall, Venice Beach, Marina del Rey, the airport, Hollywood, Universal Studios, etc. It was very easy getting around for only $1-$1.50.
Overall, my stay at this hotel was fine, but I will probably spend the extra money staying at a nicer looking hotel the next time I visit.

First off the [*] that checked us in was the rudest person I've ever dealt with( and I own a business, Im used to the public).We ask him were the rental car return place was and he said" not anywhere around here" .This dated hotel was clean, but for $150+ a night, I expect a real air unit not a 1970's window unit. The room never cooled off.
