We decided to book a night at the Arena hotel mainly for its location. After arriving we were pleasantly surprised to find a very clean room with Jacuzzi and king bed. The continental breakfast was also a plus, bigger than usual room with a variety of choice and friendly staff.
We will stay at the Arena hotel next time we are in San Jose

This hotel is very centrally located to all downtown activities and San Jose State University. It is also close enough to the airport to make travel in and out very easy. The room was small, but very comfortable and clean. The hotel restaurant and bar were clean, modern, and well served. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

Convenient on a budget

Useful location in that the free public shuttle bus (VTA 10) stops outside in addition to the hotel's own pickup service. The VTA light rail is just outside too.
The rooms are in several separate blocks, so there's a slight feel of a motel to the place. I can't comment on the bar/restaurant as I didn't go looking for either, but I did notice it was already closed (quite early) on the evening I arrived - not the place to sit up all night drinking.
Seemed good value for the four nights I spent there and the good transport links meant I saved a lot on car hire or cab fares. I'll probably choose it again if I go back.

My wife and I spent just one night here, my intention was to sleep somewhere inexpensive and close to the airport (we were leaving San Jose very early in the morning) and this hotel was a good choice.
The hotel is old, the room was small but they seem to take care of important details: the bathroom looked like it passed through improvements recently and was pretty decent. No flat screens (the TV is old) but they offer free Wi-Fi, which in my case is a better value.
Good overall value if you are not expecting luxury.

The hotel has a nice ambiance, the food is very good and the staff is very helpful. Finding the hotel is a bit of a challenge - it's not on a main road - but otherwise I would stay here again.

It was a comfortable stay at the Clarion San Jose. It has a nice feel. The restaurant was quite good and the first night they had entertainment in the bar adjoining the restaurant. I would stay at the Clarion again. My only complaint might be that getting to/from the destination to the hotel was a bit convoluted.

This historic hotel is situated conveniently downtown, within walking distance of businesses and restaurants. The adjoining patio (part of the bar) is delightful.
The room was fine, but lacked a closet for hanging up clothes, and a luggage rack on which to set your suitcase.
The staff was most helpful.

The Hotel was very comfortable with all expected amenities. The bar was nicely appointed and the food delicious. We didn't try the restaurant but the Italian menu would be a nice departure for fast-food weary travellers. A nice touch was the 10pm to 4am "Raid our Pantry" idea but the room could have done with coffee making facilities. Parking was expensive but not unexpected in Downtown San Jose! Breakfast was pricey and sparse for the price, however. Overall a pleasant stay!

The Ramada was clean, a decent location in downtown San Jose, close to everything and in walking distance of the convention center and the Pavillion. Staff were helpful. Decent options for the breakfast provided.

It was located close to everything which meant I didn't have to drive around much and could just walk.
Rooms aren't very sound proof though so you can hear people walking outside and stuff.

The Fairmont downtown San Jose is a nice hotel for a short weekend getaway. Friendly staff that was very helpful and always willing to answer any questions. Location is central with many restaurants and museums within walking distance. If you do plan to eat a meal at a nearby restaurant be sure to go early, many do not have late night hours.
Tip: if visiting on weekend, street parking is cheap and free all day Sunday's and after 6pm. Way cheaper than Valet.
Overall a great stay and will stay again.

Great directions were easy to follow.
The room and beds were very comfortable and clean.
Direct access to the convention center made it easy to attend convention activities.
Room description said a refrigerator was included however it was not.
The staff was very helpful and polite. Room service and information was available in the rooms. The pool and excersize room were convienient and secure. Hotel only had valet parking service.

First of all thanks to all the staff for being wonderful. I stayed during Fanime (during Memorial Day weekend)...it was pretty crowded at some times but that is what happend during a convention. Service was great; front desk, vallet, room service, etc. The only real problem was the elevators being crowded and having to wait sometimes 5-20 mins for them. But i just used the stairs when my legs would let me ( i was on 10th floor). This trip was the best convention/hotel experience i have had so far. Thanks

The hotel was great. The location was also great, it was close to the place that we were visiting. The service of the staff was great as well. Only thing that I did not like was that the hotel advertised cribs on your website yet when we got to the hotel we were told they did not have any at all. Had to put my daughters infant son in the bed with us.

My stay in the hotel was quite pleasant. The staff was cooperative from the start. Our request for a fridge and a microwave was met without delay. The room was comfortable and the housekeeping service was very cooperative and cleaned the room as requested. I would recommend this place to my friends.

We chose this hotel as this was close to the SJSU where we had come to formalize our ward's entry into graduate school. It was also next to the light rail station which we could have used.
We were impressed by the hospitality of the front desk. They were kind enough to extend our check out time by an hour which suited our schedule perfectly. The housekeeping staff on the floor were also very cooperative. They did not hesitate to replenish the coffee packets when we ran out of them. The complementary internet connection next to the lobby area came in very handy.
The one drawback that we thought would enhance the services would be to introduce a small refrigerator in the room like in many hotels of the same standard. The refrigerated stand in the lobby is a good idea, but every time one needs to have a soft drink he or she has to go down to the lobby.

The service was great! Fast check-in and help with my luggage. Always staff available to answer questions in a friendly manner. Very clean and comfortable and large room. Would definitely stay here again. The weekend was our 47th High School reunion and everying was just perfect from the room for the luncheon to the food to the service.

My gf and I rarely have great nights of sleep when sharing a bed but the bed at the Moorpark was splendid. The sheets were very nice and felt good and the bed itself was quite firm. All in all I slept the whole night and so did she. Also, we adjusted the temperature in the room and there was no noisy unit kicking on and off the whole night that we noticed.

A no frills inexpensive place to stay near the airport. They will send a driver to pick you up (or drop you off) from the airport free of charge if you schedule in advance. The rooms were clean but well worn. Not a very attractive neighborhood - across the street from "Bad Boy Bail Bonds" and next door to the liquor store - but I suppose, depending on a person's lifestyle, having those businesses close by may be perks.

Positive: The hotel location is nice.
Negative: The room had numerous stains in the carpet. The shower did not drain well and would fill up while showering. The pillows are garbage!

Front desk man was very kind, polite. The rooms were just OK. Nothing to shout out about...but the shuttle took us to the San Jose Airport exactly on time (5:00am). Close in proximity to the San Jose Airport.

Checked in late and left early. Everything went smooth. One of our party left something in the lobby and they tracked us down and returned it later, so appreciate that part of the service. Had all the kitchen facilities but we did not take advantage of that.

Worked Great For Me

I have stayed here 3 times. I do a trade show at the convention center and this is awesome cheap hotel that's less than 1 mile away. If you're looking for a cheap, clean, conveniently located room WITH BREAKFAST and free wi-fi, this works. It's not the ritz but if you don't need anything fancy this is great.

The hotel name was Hotel Elan, not Howard Johnson.It should have been called Motel Elan, because that is exactly what it was. While the motel was clean, it was old and not located were I anticipated it to be. It was not in the hotel district of First St. that I was familiar with There were people hanging around the front and dogs were allowed to stay in the motel rooms. There looked like people were living in the motel for extended stays or permanent housing. [...]

Extended Stay Deluxe is not good if your stay gets extended... There is no daily room service. It is done only once in a week. This place is good for one/two days of stay.

Furnitures are pretty old. They look good from outside but when you try to use them you will realize that it is not in good shape to use. Most of things like refrigerator, bath fan make lot of noise.

This might be the greatest value hotel in the area. The location on Montague is easy to get to and easy to leave. Enterprise Car Rental is a couple blocks away. The parking is not bad and if you get in late, there is plenty of parking on a quiet street. In fact, the whole area is quiet. They pay for a free ride to the airport in a taxi. The room is of average size with lots of cable tv and free internet although I had to use a cat-5 to connect. They have a good breakfast and a fruit tray in the lobby that always had fresh fruit. There was a bigger than usual fridge and coffee. The shower head was high enough for my head and plenty of hot water. My wife and I stayed six days. When you leave the hotel, take a right on Oakland Road. Go to Brokaw Road. Take a left to get to Costco and a right to get to Fry's. The only thing lacking is a hotel restaurant.

I am confined to a wheelchair and many hotels aren't very convenient. This one was great: The bed wasn't too high for a transfer (many others aren't that way) and the room and especially the bathroom were large and easy to maneuver in.
Everything was neat and clean and the staff asked several times if I neeeded anything.
