The Pickwick Hotel is a great location for staying downtown. It is close to shopping, restaurants, theater and BART/Muni. The hotel is old but charming. The rooms, especially the beds, are very comfortable and inviting. I will be returning when I need to stay the night in the City.

Hotel is perfectly situated by Union Square and close to cable cars and great food.only negative is it is a tad noisy if you are a light sleeper due to deliveries and trash pickup around midnight to 2am to other stores, etc.everything else was amazingly positive. The staff was awesome from the second we walked in the doors.we loved our room and had decent view of city.area is very clean with a great fusion of people and culture.will definitely stay here again. Also if you need a ride from the airport and plan on a cab, they can schedule for a towncar or suburban for the same price.

Hotel very central to Union Square, shopping, restaurants and China Town. Hotel very clean and staff very friendly and helpful regarding directions, places to visit etc. Hotel is an old (by American standards) building and therefore furniture & furnishings are quite dated. Beds could also be more comfortable.

Very Good, could have been great

  • hotwilzz
  • Dec 15, 2012
While not really wholly the fault of the hotel, our first night was interrupted at 4:30am by a group of drunk neighbors that required two calls to the front desk to resolve. Outside that the room was adequate. Be careful when you order bay view. It is not the same as bridge view. While we could see the bay it was not what I anticipated. Still cool though

This hotel is conveniently located near the Ferry Building/Embarcadero. And is very close to lots of good restaurants, such as Slanted Door, Lamar and Boulevard. The hotel staff is very friendly and the rooms are clean. Also, during the holidays the atrium has nice Christmas decorations. I would stay here again.

We stayed on the 6th floor in a junior suite. It was worth the extra money. Breakfast was danish, croissants, muffins and fruit. Wine and cheese and nuts was very good. Lots of wine and plenty of snacks. After a long day out and about is was nice to come back to the hotel and relax. Very clean place to stay. Walking distance to transportation. I would definitely stay here again.

We recently stayed 7 nights at the Beresford Arms Hotel. We could not find fault with it at all. The staff were excellent and extremely helpful. We had an excellent holiday and the wine and cheese late afternoon was an excellent touch. There was no problem with the area if I had to make a critisism it would be that some of the usrrounding areas are less selective so you had to be aware of the route you were takinng but it was ot a problem.

Nice place

The Palace Hotel is a good value. Significantly cheaper nightly rate than most of the other 4 star hotels in the financial district. Clean rooms, great service. The atrium restaurant is beautiful and the bar is great. Its an old hotel (+/-150 years?), but that adds character and prestige, not a detriment -- long history of many past presidents and heads of state have stayed there. Highly recommend.

Ideally located next to Montgomery Street BART station for this storied pre-1906 hotel. Truly grand in all respects although the modest sized rooms, additional wi-fi charges, and limited soundproofing between rooms might be a problem for some. That said, this is an exceptional hotel experience.

Beautiful, modern hotel

  • Jul 9, 2012
Lovely hotel, very accommodating staff. Great location near the museums and Union Square, but kind of sleepy at night. In-lobby DJs were a nice touch. Only thing we didn't like about this hotel are the crazy mini-bar prices - $8 for a tonic water, not to mention $12 for the little bit of gin to go with it. Chilly and windy in this part of town (even in July) so make sure to bring long pants and jackets.

I was on a brief visit. This hotel is very convenient and in a safe location, a short walk to Union Square & Bart/Muni, For those interested the Powell cable car was at corner of block. No breakfast in hotel which gave perfect excuse to try nearby diner for excellent breakfast or early lunch. Staff were very helpful. PC & printer available in lobby for guests was a bonus.

You take a chance sometimes booking in boutique hotels but this place was clean, nice, friendly staff, and the 5 star restaraunt Masa attached and wine tasting every evening from 5-6 as well as the convenient location and nice neighborhood made this an unexpected pleasure to stay in. I'd book there again. Great value as well!

  • Goose22
  • Dec 24, 2012
The hotel staff was very nice, other than the fact that even though you pay for your room ahead of time, they still take a card for "incidentels". This is fine, but there should be a clearly visible sign that notes you will be charged160.00 for those incidentels, and the difference in using a credit card and debit card should also be clearly noted. Without notification by hotel staff. Room was great, location awesome! Perfect for young couples!

Description
The Andrews Hotel is a charming, European-style hotel centrally located in San Francisco's renowned theater and shopping districts. Our small size -- just 48 guestrooms -- allows our friendly and courteous front desk staff to give you individual attention. Citysearch Voted the Andrews hotel 'Best hotel staff' 2006. The building at 624 Post Street was completed in 1905 just before the great earthquake on April 18, 1906. Because it was built as a Class a structure, completely supported by a steel frame, it suffered little damage. However, the fire that engulfed the city after the quake did some damage to the lobby and restaurant. After being repaired the following November for $38,000, the building assumed its planned role as the Sultan Turkish Baths, a gentlemen's bath and relaxation establishment. The large electric sign on the roof announced its arrival on Post Street. As a full service business, the Sultan Baths featured a restaurant on the ground floor. The next level housed a salt-water plunge, tiled hot room, and a rubbing room. On the third floor one could find a barber, chiropodist, and a bar and lounge. The fourth and fifth floors featured small sleeping rooms and a steam room. Finally, on floors six and seven, one could rent one of several small apartments, each containing a bedroom and a parlor. Rumor has it that, at one time, the establishment had a rather unsavory reputation. Valet parking is $34 + 15.5% tax for regular and $46 + 15.5% tax for oversized vehicle. Please be advised that valet parking fees will be higher on New Year Eve ( fees to be announced in December). Parking fees are subject to change without notice.

Great Place to stay, The whole staff made it even better. Breakfast in the hallway everymoring on every floor. The cleaning staff was like family, easy to talk too and they smiled alot too. I would go back again soon. My favorite place as of my last stay. Anytime I wanted to go somewhere I ask them and they would tell me how to get there, and even what bus to take.

This is my second stay at this hotel. I stayed there about 3 years ago. The hotel has gotten even better. The look of the Hotel is not your run of the mill look. It uses a variety of colors that accent the uniqueness of the hotel. The location is great. One block from the cable car turnaround, street cars and BART. There is an excellent Thai restaurant next door that is great. The hotel staff was very helpful, friendly and professional. The room was small but very clean and comfortable with a in room safe and flat screen TV. It was a very comfortable hotel with fresh coffee in the lobby as well as a wine reception in the evening. I really enjoyed my stay here and will stay here again on my next trip to San Francisco.

The hotel is absolutely fine and well enough located, the rooms are ideal and well maintained but the standout feature is the staff who are all very helpful and exceptionally pleasant. Please lookout for and say hello to Gregory at the lobby desk and if you like music he is the man to talk to. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting San Francisco.

We were very pleased with this hotel and our experience there. The staff was very friendly and helpful; the room and hotel were clean and funky and up-to-date as well as comfortable (and I experienced them as quiet). The location was safe and had some cafes and store conveniently close by. We did not go to these but areas we did spend time in (Fisherman's Wharf, China town, financial district, Japan town, etc.) were less than a 2 mile walk/jog through safe neighborhoods. Of note, there was no air conditioning; this was not a problem as it was only in the 50s and 60s in August. There was also no room service, which was fine but those that value this should be aware. I would definitely stay at Hotel Vertigo again! I really enjoyed the experience.

The place is nice, close to Union Square. Clean, and for one night stay it was good. The only bad thing was that the faucets made noise, so if the neighbors turned the sink faucet on it made this horrible noise. but again this are old buildings, and you can't ask for much.

Good place to stay

  • Travelor on a budget
  • Dec 27, 2012
The room was very clean with a comfortable bed, the bathroom has a great soaking tub with a separate shower. I needed to do some work while there and appreciated the large desk with plenty of easy to access power outlets. The hotel is in the middle of Japantown so there's great food and fun shopping next to the hotel. There isn't a BART station nearby but there are buses to get you where you need to go. I had a great stay with only two small negatives: The weather was cold while I was there and window next to the bed was drafty. The other was I checked my luggage with doorman and they were hard to find later on. The door was unlocked so I was able to get my things myself but people's things we left unsecured. All in all a very good stay and good value.

Happy in Hotel Kabuki

  • I miss NYC already
  • Dec 7, 2012
This was our second time staying at the hotel. We love it - I think it's the best value in SF. Nice room with nice roomy bathroom / shower. My boyfriend and I like to put on our comfy walking shoes and walking or taking the bus around the city. We like walking to Golden Gate Park (a little more than a mile away), Walking to Nob Hill (1 mile), and taking the Geary bus downtown to union square, and the shops on Fillmore (nice spots to eat there too! This trip we didn't eat at any of the local Japanese restaurants, but there are many close by. The parknig at the mall was $22/day. Next time we come to SF I think we'll fly and bus around.

Kimpton's rock! I've always had good experirences staying at Kimpton's. The room was very small but I knew that it would be so no suprise there. As always, the staff was super friendly and customer oriented. We were there for a family wedding but we were located such that we walked just about everywhere for the festivities of the weekend.... a wedding <1 mile away, the Blue Angels show, the Italian Heritage parade, America's Cup... all waterfront happenings!

Maid service

  • Ozzie
  • Oct 22, 2012
The only thing I did not like was that I had no maid service. The staff was very helpful in getting me around san francisco and there is a market next door that will have what you need. Luckily I was alone and the room was well stocked.

Great place for a long stay

  • De the world traveller
  • Oct 18, 2012
The staff was very friendly and our appartment was super clean. The bed was too small for two people, I don't think that it was even a double bed. The location was good, we walked everywhere except that we were very close to a seedy neighborhood and there were a lot of homeless persons on the street. Overall, we would stay there again it was nice having the space of a studio instead of just a hotel room and even if we stayed out late we felt safe at all times.

Description
Stately boutique hotel near Union SquareConsidering its name and the British flag flying out front, it's no surprise that the King George Hotel near San Francisco's Union Square district has a decidedly European flair. Decorative touches are subtle but continue this theme: chess boards in every room, coats of arms, and more. All guests receive complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access. The on-site restaurant, Winston's Bar and Lounge, even serves imported beer. Highlights Complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet accessHop on any one of the city's cable cars down the streetUnion Square shopping is only a four-block walk from the hotel Rooms Accommodations -- 141 rooms and 12 suites in all -- vary in size and configuration but come standard with flat-screen televisions, pillow-top mattresses, MP3 docking stations and in-room safes. Guests receive complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access as well as nightly turndown service. Features The King George Hotel, a free-standing structure, dates back to 1914 and has been renovated numerous times since. It also is now a certified member of the California Green Lodging Program. All guests have access to a nearby Club One Health Club (fees apply), a full-service facility with spa, pool and fitness center. The hotel also offers 24-hour laundry service (fees apply). Grab a pint (what else?) at Winston's Bar & Lounge, a kitschy-but-lovable bar on the ground floor. The pub no longer serves food, but the scene is still lively on weekend nights. We stayed here for 8 nights in a one-room king. We have zero complaints. The hotel is very clean, and the staff friendly. The WiFi is spot on and free. Our bed is very, very comfortable. Every morning there is great coffee available for free in the lobby until 10 AM. Oh, yes, we're a couple of blocks from Union Square so walking to see the sights (North Beach, Nob Hill, Ferry Building, etc.) is not a problem. Would I stay here again? Absolutely YES!

This is a great hotel. You almost don't even know it is there from the outside but the inside is really great. The bed is comfortable and the rooms are private. Definitely a lot of history in the hotel and the inside rooms are really quiet. Very conveniently located right off the trolley car line and muni lines.
